Call of Duty: Black Ops
Call of Duty: Black Ops set for Nov. 9, 2010

Unfortunately for you, we all get paid extra for using lots and lots of words -- especially ones like "superfluous." Activision has unveiled the official website for Call of Duty: Black Ops, the latest entry from the franchise's alternate developer, Treyarch (they're the ones you haven't been reading about as much these days). Aside from its title and what appears to be a release date -- November 9th, 2010 -- Black Ops remains enshrouded in mystery and somewhat superfluous (we're up to 16 cents!) smoke. Expect to see much more when GTTV reveals the first footage later today. [Via XboxGaming] |
There is too many Call of Duty games, its becoming a whore game like street fighter was before they slowed down on it.
I never thought you'd feel that way, G.
I will shake your foundation. I will shake the fucking rafters. Nobody'll be the same.
I will not stand for racism in the VG forum.

So what they really meant is, this is a Call of Duty exactly the same as the others, but with new backdrops.
Pass. |
Pretty sure that's been the case since The Big Red One.
I thought the new game was supposed to be set in 'Nam?
I think I'll pass this one up. |
Get ready for it. Was on Gamespot.com earlier and they announced that IW already has Modern Warfare 3 in production
Pfft, who's making it? IW's janitor? Secretary?
Supposedly last level is based on the Iranian Embassy Siege in 1980 and the farthest in time the game goes.

Shows a couple of scenes from Nam. Looks fucking badass. |
Sticky explosive shooting crossbow? Yep. I'm in.
Dunno. Looks cool, but Medal of Honor has my attention more.
Depends on whats going to be in the multiplayer for weaponary.
If its anything like MW2, I wouldnt spend over $20 to get the game due to the frustration factor. |
There had better be a beta.
There had better be actual fucking playtesting before they launch the game.
Treyarch is more down to earth than IW.
If I hear of One Man Army, Thermal, Juggernaut/Painkiller, Heartbeat Sensor, Danger Close, MLC Knifers I am not touching this game.
I think you would...........................................
I wouldnt pay $70 for a game that frustrates me to the point that MW2 has and continues to do at some points.
Give me real guns, with real scopes and real equipment and I am happy. As for killstreaks, def need to take some out and nerf the gunner. |
Why do you not play Bad Company 2?
Snipers can't go prone. Ill pass
lol fucking hell
Good show, Treyarch, you have my attention.

lol "real guns" every gun in MW2 is real.

I was under the impression you liked MW2, FAngel. I have all manner of complaints about the game (series) but you seemed alright with it.
oh you know FA...he bitches to hell and high water about MW2, but plays it religiously, changed his gamertag to form a clan for it, etc etc.
He will buy this, then complain, and still play it. Also, this game looks pretty sweet, and i wanna see where they take single player. When MW2 was announced, i was more excited about the continuation of the single player over multi. |
I had this huge post typed out, but fuck it. Just gonna say, FA would probably burn his card deck if he didn't win at solitaire. Seriously dude, don't like the game, sell it and go buy some ice cream to wallow in.

Dice's big gamble that prone was hurting gameplay experience and was thus nixed in Battlefield proved successful, imo. You hardly notice it and when you do think about it, you have nothing but joy-joy feelings inside yourself. Fuck prone.
if you even played BC or BC2, you'll realize that prone is not important. There's enough f'n snipers in that game online without prone, and the maps are big and diverse enough that sniping 'spots' are anything but a guarantee visual check list
A true sniper would want it, but a true competitive gamer would want the added balance.
I spend probably 90% of my time using the barrett. Not being able to lay down would really mess with how I usually snipe.
Not,saying the game is bad but lack of prone would def hinder my playstyle. As for this one, honestly, no painkiller or hbs and I would be ok with it. |
Quote:
I already read that.
That's like saying someone using an lmg shouldn't be able to move with it for balance reasons. |
If that really balanced things then yes, that would be correct. You're still playing a videogame here, and competitive games must account for things like balance. Some things that please the majority usually piss off a minority, but it almost always works out.
Lots of drama in Halo: Reach and MvC3 forums over this very subject. |
Its going to make everyone happy except the people who use it a lot.
Like you said. |
They're gonna have to deal. I'm sure you'll manage.
Oh I will just play RDR until this comes up and bypass BC2.
Eh

awesome
I might play this once or twice. Or thrice...
Ah fuck me...they better not have commando in this shit, because the last thing those cheap fucks need is a projectile knife.
Just now catching up with all the news and rumors for this game. Loving a lot of what I've heard and seen. Do think snipers not being allowed to go prone is stupid, but that trailer looks awesome. Will probably be picking this up when it drops.
An RC Car? That would be fun
Also, shows something of a video camera which would be awesome as an extra set of eyes for a sniper. |
Fucking hell. Glorious.
Also the very end of the trailer was probably the best part. Being able to make and edit replays like Halo is a huge selling point for me. I hope you can send them in messages to people too.
Yeah, I have been wanting a killcam editor.
Would love that shit. |

Looks like Zombie Mode going to be added to Black Ops since it was one of Treyarch's most popular features they ever created.

I know it's long, but it's a good read. So man the fuck up
Activision revealed the Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer component at an event this evening in Los Angeles. We'll have a full preview later on, but first we'll just run you through the various features that Treyarch is adding to the latest iteration of Call of Duty. Producers Dan Bunting and David Vanderhaar took the stage at the LA Coliseum to talk three pillars for the new CoD multiplayer game: "Compete, customize and create." Competition was the first element -- beyond the standard Call of Duty multiplayer elements, Treyarch has added a whole new mode called Combat Training, which brings AI opponents to the mix. Yes, bots have arrived in Call of Duty. Combat Training is a mode with its own ranking completely separate from any multiplayer play -- Treyarch found that 30 to 40 percent of single player gamers had never once tried multiplayer, and the mode is an attempt to "introduce the Call of Duty game to an entirely new set of players who we feel are missing out," said Vanderhaar. The mode has its origins in a dummy the team created named Larry, who originally just stood in the field and reported back on damage received to the programmers. But when even the devs wanted Larry to be a little more active, they eventually developed the mode into a full package. Combat Training allows you to play either by yourself or with friends -- we'll give it a look later this evening and let you know what kind of challenge Black Ops' AI bots will offer. Treyarch also plans to divert from the series tradition of set unlocks by introducing a currency to the multiplayer game, called CP or "CoD points." Everything in the game has a set CP price (or XP level limit) attached to it, so if there's a specific killstreak or weapon you'd like to unlock, you can save up and buy it at the first chance instead of simply waiting for it to open up. Perks have an effect on how you look in the game -- choosing Scavenger outfits your character with lots of pouches on your armor, while Ghost puts you into a gilly suit. Other players can see that customization as well, so opponents can tell with a glance what perks you've got equipped. Guns can be customized even further than before, and emblems can be created and attached to guns. Additionally, gear has been narrowed down into three categories: lethal throwables (like frag grenades) will always be used with the right bumper, and tactical throwables will appear on the left bumper. The last category is "equipment," and this consists of all the other gear Treyarch has thrown into the game, from the usual claymores and motion sensors to new gadgets like a camera spike. New weapons have been added in to care packages as well -- Treyarch showed off a gigantic gatling gun, a special RPG, a napalm strike, a remotely controlled bomb, an offsite mortar team, and a moveable SAM turret that targeted any aircraft in the area. Currency, said Treyarch, is useless unless you can gamble with it, so Treyarch has created four new multiplayer modes that revolve around gambling CP, called Wager Matches. In these matches, only the top three players get paid at the end of the match, and everyone else loses their ante CP. "One in the Chamber" pits players against each other armed with just one pistol and a bullet -- killing someone else earns you an extra bullet, but missing leaves you with just a knife. "Sticks and Stones" gives everyone a tomahawk and a crossbow, and hitting an opponent with a tomahawk automatically bankrupts them. "Gun Game" has players progressing through the various gun tiers -- a kill moves you up to a stronger weapon, but dying drops you back down. And "Sharp Shooter" gives everyone a series of random weapons, with everyone switching to the next random after a certain point. Treyarch has also implemented "Contracts," which players can buy with CP, and then pay off when certain criteria are met in the game within a certain time limit. Promise to kill 50 players in a certain amount of matches, and achieving the goal will pay back more CP, but failing will lose what you paid in the first place. Finally, Treyarch also created the ability to record and playback matches during development, so they've added a video recording system into the game. Players can save, share, and browse recorded videos -- the system doesn't look quite as in-depth as what Bungie's put together in the past, but we'll have to see it in action. The featurelist for Black Ops' multiplayer is quite impressive, obviously. It remains to be seen if features like the Wager Matches will be widely adopted, but we'll get our hands on the game and let you know what we think. |
Show 'em the gambling mode video, G.
Hooray, I can sit there and count how many pouches a guy has, while he shoots me in the face.
Damn sounds kinda addictive.
Suck at these games, so I will never gamble anything prolly.
Beta this month please.

a tomahawk? fucking want.
Four different types of free for all...Sold. Like the sound of the wager system too.

All kinds of new information has been released this last week.
Here is some new multiplayer gameplay footage. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yufHjEZdeA Another video showing some more gameplay footage. Note: Undermount flamethrower holy shit! http://g4tv.com/videos/48466/Call-of...ps/?quality=hd Here is an article talking about the Combat Training game mode, and other details. Note: At the bottom of the article they mention some details about theater mode, and how it can be used to combat in tom foolery.(boosters, hackers, cheaters, etc...) http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/03/ca...ers/#continued This is a list of supposed camos for the Black ops. Source may be shady, but looks legit. http://www.morganjeast.com/2010/09/camouflages.html List of Perks for Black Ops. Note: This last website also contains a list and description of all the kill streaks, and all confirmed weapons. http://www.cod7blackops.com/perks/ |
Looks like it has a different 'feel' to it than MW2, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Actually kinda looking forward to this. The wager modes look fun as hell.
Kalyx, how does prone affect balance?
Also, loving that this has bot support. Definitely something more console games need to take part part in.
Mainly it gives you a chance to learn the maps and weapons at your own pace and level. Secondly, (and more important to me) it lets you play regular size games locally, without your friends bitching to play something else because they're getting utterly annihilated. |
Intriguing that there seems to be no Stopping Power perk.
Also, if nuke or anything like it is in, I'll finally get to use it.
Hacker pro is pretty cool.
I wish there was more variety in perks. I'm getting sick of seeing the same ones in every game. If that list is legit and complete, there's what, one new perk (Tac mask). Yeah some of the pro features will be new probably, but still, one or two brand new wouldn't hurt.
The killstreaks look pretty good, on the other hand. The Blackbird in particular is one I'm definitely loading out with. |
I'm happy that dogs are back
And I'm happy they're a fucking 11 killstreak instead of 7.
I would say that's a bad thing, but since they kill in one bite now, yeah.
I just know that I got killed a lot more from attack choppers in COD4 than I ever did from dogs. Actually liked it when dogs got called in, cause I could hole up, and pick them off, and get about 9+ XP from it. |

Also like that stopping power has been removed completely. It will allow for more diverse setups than the previous games, as I constantly had to equip stopping power whenever playing core game modes.
The potential combination of ghost/scout/ninja for sniping is pretty sweet. Also being able to combo scavenger/sleight of hand or warlord/ninja or marathon sound absolutely beastly. Wonder what the pro of Hardline will be since there is no death streaks. |
Needs moar Dragunov
It's in the game, man.
Thank god Commando and One Man Army is out.
Wooooooooooo
Hbs? Thermal? Commando? I hear if ya have. Marathon it won't you take lightweight. |
Minor thing but I love the new Challenge Complete guitar riff.

Like, seriously never knew anyone ever even bitched about prone being in a game.
It's well known how prone affects gameplay which is why Dice cut it out. Then you have drop-shooting in certain games and how uber-powerful it is in maps of particular designs under certain game modes.
I have no stats on the matter but I've personally observed more issues based on prone in-game than grips about prone's exclusion. It just makes for a better experience, imo. Most likely prone is in Black Ops and MW2 had bigger problems than people laying down so it's hardly something worth going on about. |
Drop shooting doesn't work in COD, because it's not particularly fast like it is in Battlefield 2. You are likely to get pegged in the head on the way down.
Quote:
Ill list a few things about MW2 that I hope aren't in Black Ops Thermal HBS Commando + Tac Knife Infinite Noobtubes infinite Carepackage Care Package 2x Speed Nukes Javelindom Deadspawn (Where you spawn next to where you died) I am pretty sure 99% of people in this thread wouldn't shed a tear if they never saw any of the above again. Also, I would love for once to see a fucking legit leaderboard. |
Yeah it does work in that game.
Until some cockmunching fag hacks it.
Talking about drop shots, but yeah to your post anyway.
Hackers are the cancer. |
I mean it would be cool to brag about being the top ranked player instead of looking and seeing all the losers who are number #1-1000 with 1337.0 k/d ratios
Dunno, if drop shooting worked well in cod, you'd think you wou;d see it more often. As it stands, I've seen it only a handful of times, between COD4, and MW2. And I came out on top in almost all those encounters. So I don't really know where you're getting this. Especially considering you've barely played the games.
