FUTURAMA IS BACK (THIS JUNE! 7 Weeks!)

Good news, everyone!

If you're like us, you watch every rerun of Futurama on Comedy Central no matter how many times you've seen it before, though we have to say we're getting a little tired of the one on Mars with the Buggalos.

So that's why it's so nice to hear that new episodes of the sci-fi animated show will arrive on Comedy Central in June, HitFix reports:

Comedy Central sources confirm to HitFix that Thursday, June 24, at 10:00 p.m. is currently set to be the premiere of the first new half-hour episode of "Futurama" since 2003.

We're also pleased to report that the entire voice cast will be back, though there was some concern a while back that Fox was going to replace them with cheaper knockoffs or possibly robots. If they had done that, they could kiss our shiny metal asses. :)

So ... will you be tuning in??

HELL YEAH!

GOOD NEWS, EVERYONE!

The old news was that Futurama is coming back. That was reported on October 15th, 2009.

This is an UPDATE because it'll be on in about 7 weeks.

Juan 05-08-2010 02:08 AM

Awesome. Can't wait.

dronepool 05-08-2010 02:19 AM

How many episodes do you guys think it'll have? About 2 hours worth? I'm guessing around 7-9 episodes, unless they do a whole season and not half like SP does.

Lock Jaw 05-08-2010 02:29 AM

On June 10, 2009, Fox announced that up to twenty-six new episodes will be produced for Comedy Central.[11] However, only twelve of these episodes will air as part of the sixth season[12], with the season finale being Futurama's 100th episode.

dronepool 05-08-2010 02:36 AM

Sweet.

They just showed my favorite episode ever on Comedy Central: Jurassic Bark. Such a sad, yet great episode.

The commercial said it will be an hour long.

Requiem 06-24-2010 06:37 PM

The new episodes were alright. Not as fantastic as I hoped they'd be.

Jeritron 06-24-2010 07:22 PM

I've been revisiting Futurama. I watched the first volume this week. I haven't watched the show in years

Savio 06-24-2010 11:19 PM

someone is going to come in here and say they forgot

Destor 06-25-2010 03:42 AM

i loved it. need more though...nowish.

Xero 06-25-2010 10:47 PM

Not great episodes, and something felt off. They felt like slightly below average Futurama episodes, which isn't a horrible thing.

I enjoyed them and am looking forward to more.

Requiem 06-25-2010 11:01 PM

^Yeah that. They were 'off' for sure. I will continue to watch it of course, but I do hope they get back to their old spectacular selves.

Droford 06-26-2010 02:57 AM

The voices all sounded like they were in a garbage can. 2nd ep didnt record. Was pissed off.

mitchables 06-26-2010 03:02 AM

think they did well considering the spot wild green yonder left them in. enjoyed the second episode more. "mr president. what the hell?" made me giggle profusely.

#BROKEN Hasney 06-26-2010 04:05 PM

There needs to be more of The Transcredible Exploits Of Zapp Brannigan.

Kane Knight 06-26-2010 07:34 PM

Can't wait for more.

Vietnamese Crippler 06-26-2010 09:17 PM

The intro to Rebirth with the Professor making little puns about the show being on Comedy Central put a smile on my face.

Schlomey 06-27-2010 12:05 AM

i dunno what you guys are bitching about.....I really and totally enjoyed both episodes.

Lock Jaw 06-27-2010 02:35 AM

Don't know if it was just me, but it seemed slightly more "risque" as well.

EG, Amy outright suggesting an orgy.

Shadow 06-27-2010 09:50 PM

And getting into a dominatrix outfit.

Kane Knight 06-28-2010 12:48 AM

Seems like something Amy would do.

Schlomey 06-28-2010 11:42 AM

well comedy central is not a network broadcast channel like fox...its a cable channel and it's known for being risque. Saturday night UNEDITED movies and South Park's SHIT episode. So I went in to it expecting it to be a little more adult oriented.

I didn't find it too much more adult oriented. Everything they aired would have aired on Fox, honestly.

Schlomey 06-28-2010 01:21 PM

but writing wise, the creators would never have said "hey lets have an orgy" and have amy wong enter in a dom outfit....they just wouldn't. would they?

Requiem 06-28-2010 05:00 PM

Yeah didn't find it to be more risque at all.

I just think it felt different. Not a bad different at all, but it was not as 'familiar' feeling as the show was in the past. Even the movies had more of a 'typical' Futurama feel to them, IMO.

Might just take them a couple episodes to get it back hopefully. this show.

Xero 06-28-2010 05:12 PM

Yeah I was just thinking this yesterday.

I almost feel it comes down to them focusing more on the gags and jokes than the story in the first two episodes. The story was there, no doubt, but most Futurama episodes I watch for the story. These I'd watch more for the gags. Maybe it was weak writing or something.

They felt more akin to later Simpsons episodes than Futurama.

Schlomey 06-29-2010 09:57 AM

well i am ready for a bender/fry adventure ep

Kane Knight 06-29-2010 10:02 AM

It's worth noting Amazon lists the episode as TV PG, and that's in keeping with the old Futurama's ratings.

Feels weird with less music, too. Then again, I'm pretty sure that's the same thing they've come to do with the Simpsons.

I second that opinion.... I enjoyed them both, especially the seciond one..... anytime Zapp Brannigan is on my TV, it cannot disappoint

Droford 07-02-2010 12:25 AM

Last nights episode was funnier than the first two, kinda dumb that they didn't air it last week though.

"Why do they call it an eyePhone"

*jams the thing in his eye*

#BROKEN Hasney 07-02-2010 01:41 PM

As an iPhone owner with 4,000 tweets to his name, I found this especially hilarious.

Guy at work in the same situation was too far stuck up his own arse and was offended though... Which made it even funnier :D

Kane Knight 07-02-2010 02:05 PM

I didn't think it was as funny, mostly because specificly commenting on individual trends like that seemed more like something recent Simpsons eps would do.

Though I loved the beginning, especially "Good news, nobodies."

Though I'm pretty sure Apple is more evil than Mom.

Schlomey 07-03-2010 11:45 AM

it was a good story

Gertner 07-03-2010 12:03 PM

Too derivative. I mean, it's not like they've never parodied social issues before, but this one almost literally just paralleled one specific instance and never turned back.

Skippord 07-16-2010 05:36 AM

rather liked the episode tonight

I feel like you're taking this position just for the sake of being different from everybody else. I remember you trying to say that it was something that dumb jocks watched or something because it was "in the mainstream". You're trying to make it into something that it isn't to somehow try to convince others to hate it.

Stop that.

Requiem 07-16-2010 08:39 PM

Futuroma was a great episode.

Xero 07-17-2010 12:29 AM

They're definitely getting progressively better as the season goes on. Not quite on par with old Futrama yet, but I really enjoyed last night's episode and can't wait to see if they continue this trend.

Savio 07-17-2010 01:34 AM

I didn't like how fry was THAT dumb in that episode honestly.

Kane Knight 07-17-2010 11:16 AM

Way to stick it to the Da Vinci Code. I wonder what other sufficiently dated material they can base a whole episode around.

Schlomey 07-17-2010 01:12 PM

I never laughed once but I consider that one of my favorite episodes of the series. Great story and flow.

yeah, last thing you'd earmark a comedy show known for witty dialogue and well-crafted satire as is funny.

Schlomey 07-18-2010 02:48 AM

i found the episode humorous but no I did not actually LAUGH OUT LOUD (lol if you will) ----doesn't mean the story wasn't tight and the jokes weren't there.

Kane Knight 07-18-2010 01:16 PM

The story wasn't tight in any meaningful sense. It was paint by numbers. I mean, they didn't paint outside the lines like the paste eating kid, but it was just just...Weak.

Juan 07-18-2010 08:53 PM

Maybe this show is not for you, KK.

Yeah, I only enjoy Futurama when it's not pants-on-head retarded. Totally nto for me. Especially since I praised the first couple of new episodes.

How does that paste taste?

Juan 07-19-2010 03:40 PM

Requiem 07-19-2010 06:25 PM

Don't get that though.. first couple episodes seemed way less structured and seemed to rely more on cheap laughs. Last couple have actually seemed to progress into stories.

yeah the ending of that episode was beautiful. they have not lost their ability to strike at your heartstrings at all.

i had a feeling that was where the episode was heading (ie hermes being inspector 5) but the reasoning for his lax quality control came out of nowhere and honestly knocked me a bit because it was so beautifully done.

The last couple of seasons of the Simpsons have progressed more into stories, too. I bet you think those are the best seasons ever, right?

Last week's was funny. And it still had "structure."

The first couple Episodes are very much like the old Futurama. The "cheap laughs" are the same style, the plots are not less cohesive. The next couple are like post-shark-jumping Simpsons, as in "the wacky adventures of Homer Simpson." They sacrificed both the lowbrow humour and the more intellectual level for mediocre parallels to popular culture. The jokes were at least as cheap, they just all came from "take that, pop culture subject A!"

I guess those episodes are excellent if you're looking for a linear, uninspired plot with obvious parallels so you never have to actually think about tricky things like "satire," since it's almost all about one topic and beats you over the head with it.

But BDC, as a fan of the original series, I'm pretty sure you'll be told this show isn't for you. ;)

BigDaddyCool 07-27-2010 11:50 AM

If they are doing that five episodes in, then go back to being canceled. They all must be greatness or otherwise they will just tarnish the name.

 u both so much right now. Jurassic Bark is and I think always will be, my favorite of all the episodes.

Last night's episode was pretty hilarious though, especially when Bender got all pissed off with Prof. Farnsworth and Fry because they wanted to get out and explore the point in time with all the girls and whatnot but he wasn't allowed to make everyone get out at the point in time just before that so he sends the time machine in motion again.:rofl:
