Robin to his Batman

Who are guys that no matter what the do will forever be linked to or have their career defined by a bigger star?

Examples:

Marty Jannetty.... HBK

Arn Anderson.... Ric Flair

Steamboat.... Flair

King.... JR

Controversial:
HHH.... HBK (I know this will probably piss some people off, but every time I see him I think about how lucky he was to be in the clique and what would have happened if Shawn didn't take 4 years off.)

The Jayman 05-11-2010 01:22 PM

Kane.....Undertaker

jskinnyg 05-11-2010 01:24 PM

Hass/Benjamin... Angle

Ermaximus 05-11-2010 01:25 PM

You forgot the overly obvious one of Matt Hardy to Jeff Hardy.
How about Chavo to Eddie?
Kane to Undertaker?
Waltman to Hall and Nash?

Next Big Thing 05-11-2010 01:38 PM

Beefcake to Hogan.

Would anyone say Ron Simmons/ Faarooq to JBL? I know he was the first black champ in WCW, leader of NOD, and him and Butch Reed were great together, but every time I see him I think APA and JBL.

If you're gonna use Ron Simmons, it'd be more like this:
Ron Simmons...The Rock.

Christian/Zack Ryder/Gangrel/Curt Hawkins... Edge.

I was thinking that one too, but posted the other. You could really even go on to tie it out as Waltman...Hall...Nash if you wanted.

Although no storylines really ever directly enforced my feelings of this but I've always thought that Al Snow was the Robin to Foley's Batman. I mean, they had some short stints on camera together but nothing major. Maybe I just think that way because of the way they joke around with each other and because they're best friends.

Ol Dirty Dastard 05-11-2010 03:58 PM

Don't really know if it's fair to say Steamboat and Flair. Both guys were as good as each oher in the ring... Steamboat just wasn't lucky enough to get pushed like Flair, and also knew when to fucking call it quits, unlike a certain drunken old asshole.

Ol Dirty Dastard 05-11-2010 03:59 PM

in fact, I'd say Steamer was better than Flair.

Nark Order 05-11-2010 04:15 PM

Steamboat was better in certain aspects of his ring work than Flair, I'd say. To say that Steamboat was better than Flair overall though, I can't get on board with that.

Dude, Snow cost Rock n Sock the tag titles, because he was jealous of Foley and The Rock. They did the angle where Foley found his book in the trash and thought the Rock did it, but it was Snow setting him up, which led to the 'Psycho Snow' heel turn. Short lived though.

But yeah, that whole angle was based on the 'Batman/ Robin chemistry that Foley and Snow had.

Nark Order 05-11-2010 04:37 PM

I acknowledged their short lived television chemistry and am aware of everything you mentioned. Calm down, Lord of Darkness. CALM DOWN, MAN!

Lord-Of-Darkness 05-11-2010 04:38 PM

I AM CALM

Part of it is Steamer never got a chance to work as a heel... but yeah I'll agree with you.

Nark Order 05-11-2010 04:48 PM

Yeah, Steamboat never really got to work a heel persona because he worked so well as a face. Very few guys can have such a lengthy face run like that and never get boring. After awhile with alot of guys staying face for long periods of time, the people start to rebel and want to see something different (See: John Cena) Never happened to Steamboat, he just had something people loved.

Favre4Ever 05-11-2010 04:57 PM

Scotty 2 Hotty to Grandmasta Sexay...or the other way around, i'm not sure it matters anymore. Also, both of them to Rikishi.

It's just that Miz has more personality and charisma where as Morrison is a really good performer. If Morrison had the Mizs mic skills he would be unstoppable, but ever since they broke them he's fallen to quiet mid-card status where as Miz is on that cusp of upper mid-carder and headline. Now I don't think Miz will ever be able to headline, but it's possible.

Now I had some people to suggest but some other people already said them, so I don't want to repeat myself. So here's a few that haven't been said.

Scott Hall to Kevin Nash

Christian to Edge. <-- I know someone said Christian, Curt Hawkins and that other guy in that group, but I don't count those other two because they were just lameos whereas Christian has been there from the start.

Jerry Lawler to Jim Ross

IRS to The Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase

Brooklyn Brawler to every wrestler in the WWE

Jimmy Hart to Hulk Hogan

Mr. Fuji to Yokozuna

Jim Neidhart to Bret Hart

Jay Lethal to Macho Man

Hulk Hogan to Vince McMahon. For Hogan, both as a wrestler and an owner, though is Hogan an owner of TNA or a partner? I'm confused. Anyways... It's all the same and you all know what I mean.

Pretty sad to think this was the complete opposite during The Dirt Sheet days. Heel Morrison was amazing.
