I prefer the human foot soldiers by quite a bit. This is because I like the whole ancient order/clan feeling of the group more, where they are like a cult that operates at night.
The motives and style of Shredder don't feel that way when he's manufacturing robots on a mass scale and staging world domination plots with the Technodrome.

It comes down to me preferring the ninja mythology story of Ninja Turtles to the science fiction injected into the cartoon.
This isn't to say that I don't love the cartoon elements though. The robots and gadgets, as well as the Dimension X stuff and Krang is all great.
I just think the feel of the first movie is a better story and world, when you strip away all of the awesome elements of a saturday morning cartoon and action figure toy line.

Ninjas will always trump robots.

The robots fit with the more "campy" and "sci fi" version of Ninja Turtles.

But I always liked the more "real" movie version better, even as a kid. Ninjas win out. Plus they had this guy, this guy was Awesome:

I rest my case for why I feel the movie version of Shredder and the Foot Clan are infinitely better

I'm providing some brief discussion

Jeri, the cartoon was clearly geared towards kids, while the movie was based more on the comic's grit. You cant really compare the two. Both are great, in their own ways.

I said I liked both, and I'm aware it's for kids. I liked it because I liked it as a kid. I'm saying that I like the humans more because I'm an adult now.

Also, you clearly can compare the two since that's the premise of this thread, Dirt.

You can pose the question, but a full blown comparison is just CRASY

Why is it crazy? It's just discussion for shits and gigs. It's not really intellectually challenging to type a couple sentences highlighting which story elements you prefer. It's just entertaining.

Robots were cool because they'd short circuit if you hit the fire hydrant near them and sprayed them

Ninjas > Robots, but the cool thing with the robots is that the Turtles could cut loose. Leonardo wouldn't slash a ninja in half, but robots are fair game. :D

I like the ninja background more, especially now that I am an adult. But I brought up to Jeritron what Rammsteinmad brought up about weapon use and that's an important aspect. Otherwise Leo and Raph are just blocking blows with their swords and cutting things to fall into the attacker and knock them out. If they're living by the Batman maxim of "Do Not Kill" I suppose that's fine, but why bring a sword then? Why not everyone bring a bow? And for all they know some members of the Foot could have succumbed to their wounds off-camera, so they might as well have just stabbed them.

Plus the robots in the games had weapons like boomerangs, dynamite, and comically sized bowling balls. Though coming in bright orange was probably not good for sneaking around.

Ninjas would be much better for going green though. Really cuts down on the emissions from exploding robots. I'll bet Shredder could apply for a green tax credit if he decided to use live workers.

What if the robots are solar pwoered? It'd explain why they were inferior.

Not to mention health care now. I'll bet they're expensive to insure since their primary job duty is getting beaten up by the Turtles.

I'm going to assume they are powered by some kind of Dimension X fuel cell. Though if Shredder just sold that he wouldn't even need to be in crime. He could take over the world through economic means.

Is there a union for ninjas? I mean, y'know whenever they get hurt etc...

Robots.

The Foot clan is without Honor. Human ninajs would have too much self respect and dignity to turn to a life of crime. It doesn't make sense that they would be evil.

Shredder is so dishonorable that no real ninjas will have anything to do with him anymore. So, he has to make his own. That is why it is better that they are Robots.

Thing is, they weren't really ninjas. They were street kids who were taken in by the Shredder and taught kung-fu.

If they were real ninjas they would have kicked the Turtles' shells.

The fact that they are ninjas without honor is why they are bad guys. That's the story.

Shredder should consider employing the best of both worlds. He can use the robotic foot clan for large scale attacks and bigger numbers, while still having the human ninjas as an elite task force.
They'd be called in like navy seals, whereas the robots would be the army.

Like the robot army vs Stormtroopers in Star Wars.

Liked the robots since in the games there were so many differrent varations and there look wasn't nearly as retarded looking even though they're cartoony.

I'd like to read the early comics. I will probably check out my local comic store soon to see if they have a trade paperback or something

It's something I always wanted to do, but for one reason or another, never got around to it. Turtles aren't exactly on the brain very often anymore.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Doesn't hurt I haven't been a serious comic reader for over a decade. nothing against them or anything, just drifted off them.

This was actually a tough decision for me, as I can agree with the points made by both Jeritron and Rammsteinmad (especially with the Foot Soldier in that photo, can't unsee that now).

Going through my TMNT collection I must say that their will always be a certain charm to battling Robo-foots: They seemed to have more versatility and variation than the ones portrayed in films, and having them appear in different colors is an appeal as well.

But with that said, I ended up giving my vote to the actual ninjas. It may just be the martial artist in me thinking this, but realism in this situation will always have an advantage over fantasy when done correctly. Of course the term "realism" has to be taken with a grain of salt in regards to this discussion, as already mentioned with the lack of dismemberment when involving so many lethal weapons.
