"Dashing" Cody Rhodes
Last week was my first time seeing Cody Rhodes new gimmick of him trying to play the pretty boy, self absorbed, young egomanic. Does anyone have any thoughts on the subject? Personally, I dont hate Cody. He really improved when he teamed with Ted but I dont know if he's ready to be out there on his own yet. Maybe he could get Chris Masters to be his backup, play up the "were both perfect" heels. I still can't see why there hasnt been a feud with Goldust (if he doesnt retire again ) or even if Dustin Rhodes becomes drops the gimmicks and becomes a mentor to his younger brother.
|
I'm still thinking about that promo he did a week or two ago.
"Dashing" Cody Rhodes. "Dashing" Cody Rhodes. "Dashing" Cody Rhodes? "Dashing". Cody. Rhodes. ...Is he dashing? |
That promo was probably his best since he's been around. This isn't a main event gimmick, but he isn't a main event player yet. This will take him there.
|
Its certainly better than what he was doing, which was generic somewhat mean spirited heel.
He's gotten some decent heat, and he's been able to make the gimmick work, at least for the first few weeks. Cody, IMO, is just as talented as Ted is minus the "look," which is ironic considering his gimmick. I think he'll make it work to the tune of a US title run (and some pretty solid heat), but for him to move above that he'll need the gimmick to evolve. Oh, and he'll need a valet at some point, only makes sense with the gimmick of "I'm sexy, and if you don't believe me, ask the divas." |
The promo was pretty good.
I liked it when he said to the woman "I can literally hear you getting fatter!". It reminded me of some of the heels of the past who would involve the crowd in their promos and make fun of them. Heels don't really do that these days. The last guy I can remember who involved the fans in his promos was Edge. :-\ |
Now you're just getting Afterlife all worked up.
|
All for Cody getting some air time with a gimmick that seems to match his real-life personality.

<font color=goldenrod>I like his new theme.</font> :o

He's not dashing at all. I think this should only work if he's getting rejected all the time (as it backs up the fact he aint dashing) and gives him some "laughing at you" heat. Give the crows a reason to hate him "Cos he thinks he's all that, but he ain't at all". Kinda like someone who can't sing on Pop Idol, but is absolutely convinced they can.
Dashing is awesome. No idea who's idea that was cos it's quite strange to see that word used like this. They'd go with stupid things in recent times, but dashing is a word that just aint used enough. Awesome stuff. |

With this gimmick, a tag team of Rhodes and Zack Ryder would lead to some epic promos. Too bad they're on separate shows.
Not a fan of the new theme, but the entrance definitely seems to generate some heat. |
On a somewhat related not, at tonight's FCW event, Dusty Rhodes will team with Goldust and Dashing Cody Rhodes to face off with Curt Hawkins and The Dudebusters

looked like a real time camera to me.

Another week's entrance should settle it. Oh well, atleast now we shall see if it was the "generic entrance theme" that was keeping him back. In any case, he is now definitely my pick to be the Smackdown MitB winner.
|
It seems like a real old school gimmic and Rhodes seems like a real old school guy. He'll do fine with it.
|
I think Rhodes is gonna become the Jannety of those two.

Watching Smackdown now. His theme music is terrible.
|
lol @ his new entrance and theme. He appears on the titantron (or whatever that is beneath it) and looks at himself. That's kind of funny.
|
I guess one thing I do like about him is that you sort of feel like Cross-roads can come out of nowhere.
|
I love Cody. Just needs to PUT ON SOME FUCKING KNEEPADS.
|
Did you guys hear there was an incident at Tuesday night's WWE NXT tapings where Cody Rhodes was upset at Lucky Cannon? At the end of the tag team main event, Lucky didn't take Rhodes' finisher, Cross Rhodes, very well. Cody was visibly upset at the effort from Lucky and continued to vent backstage.
|
I guess you could say that Cody went off... Like a cannon.

He is terrible. I have said it from the beginning. Cody Rhodes should not be there. HE is nothing but a jobber. He needs to be fired. I hate him.

Jealous that he's not dashing like Cody Rhodes. :shifty: |

That is definitely true. There are plenty of guys that are better than he is right now. But in fairness, Cody has come a long way since his debut. He never really got a chance to do anything on the mic that was just his and while being in Legacy was great for his exposure, he didn't really ever need to carry a match. This push will be a test of how he improves.
|
So, the whole "Uncommon" Cody Rhodes gimmick lasted what, a week?
Anyway, I'm of the opnion that Cody has always had personality, though he couldn't really show it being a Legacy lackey, and I think he really got a big break when he moved over to SD. After all, it's the show where younger "up and coming" guys can actually get a decent amount of air time. In fact, I think he's been quite entertaining on both SD and NXT, and I think his "dashing" promo was the best part of admittedly lame SD that night. What they need to do now, IMO, is be consistent with this. Let him be self-masturbatory in promos, but keep the cruelty he showed against Cannon and Striker. I think if that happens, he'll be on his way to greatness, but give him a chance. |

yea I hear ya damndest....just like Sim Snuka.

Hey, did you guys know that in the May edition of WWE Magazine, Ted DiBiase is asked what he won't miss from his days in The Legacy. He said playing with G.I. Joe action figures, then he relays a bizarre story of Rhodes once seriously asking him to play with said toys.
"Well, he wanted to play "War," and I thought it was some video game or card game. Then he pulled all these dolls out of his bag. He lined them up and started making noises like, "Pow! Pow! Boom!" It was just bad," DiBiase said. "I thought it was a joke, but he told me I needed to take it more seriously. I felt inclined to play along because I didn't want to hurt his feelings. Never again." |

Also, on a side note, I know some fans who bash Cody for not having the physique to be pushed...uh, what? Since when does that matter? He's scrawny, sure, but that could be more of an advantage than a disadvantage when it comes to his character... the scrawny, arrogant guy whose ass the fans want kicked. |

To your first point, Rhodes has improved a lot, but there is no way he is better than Ted. I actually think Ted has the total package and can be a huge star and the next big star. I just think everything about Ted is better than Cody. |
I think Cody has a slight edge in the promo department. He sounds a lot more comfortable than Ted on the mic.

"Dashing" Dick Johnson

I have always liked Cody Rhodes. I just didn't like RAW. Now that he is on SmackDown! I can get into him more. His ring work is good, and his promos are good. What's the problem? I'm not into the whole narcissistic gimmick, but we'll see how it goes. Such cheap boring heat, but if he contrasts it with good in-ring performances then it's probably perfect for him.
Cody is slightly better than Ted DiBiase, in my opinion. Not that Ted himself is bad -- I just don't see anything special about him, and his gimmick is even more bland that Cody's. At least Cody has a mean-streak. |
I think Cody has been ok on the mic. Definently something his dad passed onto him, although he's nowhere near the greatness that Dusty Rhodes is on the mic. His wrestling I'm indifferent on right now. He doesn't suck but nothings been amazing to me at least. Although he's got my interest lately because I want to see where this new "dashing" gimmick takes him.

"Dashing" Dwayne Johnson

I caught what I missed on Friday's SD! on YT over the weekend and I gotta say his new theme and tron are pretty sweet. The mirror in his tron kinda reminded me of Mark Jindrak in his "reflection of perfection" days.
|
Cody Rhodes might be the most boring guy in WWE since Khali.
|
He also might be a giraffe.
|
I like it. Something abit 'old fashioned' about the gimmick but it works for him.
|
I'm with Noid with the "cheap, boring heat" comment. I'm not really into it yet, but who knows. He does put on good matches though. :y:
|
Lex Luger and Mark Jindrak called and they want that mirror technology.
|
I will probably YouTube his eventual match with Kofi Kingston over the IC Title. I'm sure that could be a doozy.

Watching Cody's matches with his new gimmick, reminds me of him almost acting like Rick Martel.

I suspect if he wore kneepads, he'd look less like a douche.

yeah I'm a fan of The Dashing gimmick. It is kinda cheap and seems a bit dated but it works for him. In a good way. I would love to see Kofi vs Cody on PPV for the IC title. Could be a good feud.
|
I can't get that theme out of my head.

I don't know. At least he has a gimmick now. I think it's ok for now. It's better than when he was just boring guy in Legacy. He's a heel that's annoying, and I think he pulls it off well. His delivery ain't so wooden, like Dibiase's.
|
Don't get me wrong I like Cody but Ted deserves a singles run with a midcard belt first.
|
I can't get that theme out of my head!
