Street Fighter X Tekken/Tekken X Street Fighter

Fuck these games.

Drakul 07-24-2010 04:33 PM

Doesn't look all that bad. At least the Capcom version.

No. Should have been Namco and not Tekken. Bunch of generic fighters, or PAC MAN in a fighting game?

With KOF/SF4/MvC3/SF3/BlazBlue, I do not need generic fighter x/devil generic fighter x in yet another fighting game.

 Nothing about this post was anything less than awesome.

Emperor Smeat 07-24-2010 05:17 PM

It sort of makes sense Namco just went with Tekken fighters since the game engine is based on Tekken.

Probably wouldn't control well if they included their Soul Calibur and other fighting game characters since those games use a different engine for gameplay.

#BROKEN Hasney 07-24-2010 05:34 PM

But we can see shotos fireball trapping a bunch of circus jugglers? Now that's a massive engine clash.

Kalyx triaD 07-24-2010 06:16 PM

Sort of wanted Capcom vs Namco, myself. What's done is done.

Looks like a liberal SF4.

Development on the game began just one or two months prior, said Ono, although they began real discussions about the project with Namco Bandai about one year back. Even prior to this, Ono said, he and Harada had talked about doing something together.

Capcom's past dealings with Namco Bandai appear to have contributed to the realization of this project. While joking that the main reason for the tie-up was that he and Harada are such good friends, Ono also pointed to Capcom's work with Namco Bandai on the Gundam arcade games.

The project began when Ono and his staff shared the idea with CEO Haruhiro Tsujimoto Tsujimoto and software development head Keiji Inafune, who said that they should all go meet Namco Bandai. They ended up having no hurdles even at the top levels.

Getting into the game itself, the site asked Ono what we can expect as far as characters go. Ono would only mention the characters who were shown in the demo session: Chun-Li, Ryu, Kazuya and Nina. However, he added that they're currently thinking about putting in the early generation characters from each franchise.

Detailing the gameplay, Ono said that the staff is thinking about making the game 2 on 2. He joked that for someone his age, Marvel vs Cacom's 3 on 3 fights is just too much.

The basics of 8-way lever and 6 button input system won't change. However, Ono said that he'd like to add something that he referred to as an "assist" feature. He said the iPhone version of SFIV has somewhat of an answer to this desire -- a feature that lets players feel that they were able to do tough moves.

Regarding a release time frame, Ono said that the target is to release the game two yeas after its announcement. He expects the next timeframe for a major announcement to be next year's Captivate (a Capcom private event held every April in America). The reason for such an early announcement at Comic-Con was because Capcom wanted to do something for the fans.

Most of Ono's comments with the site concerned just the Capcom side of the tie-up. This version will likely come out first, said Ono.

Development on the two sides are being handled completely separate of one another. In fact, the staff has agreed to not share information between the teams. The Capcom side will be doing their own designs for the Namco Bandai characters, and the Namco Bandai side will be doing their own designs for the Capcom characters. They're also working separately on the gameplay side.

Ono joked that the Namco Bandai team would be none-the-wiser if the Capcom designers made Nina appear in the game naked, and likewise for Chun-Li in the other version. He also joked that they're interested in seeing which version will get rewarded a Platinum score in Famitsu.

"We'd like to challenge one-another in all areas, including sales, and get fans of both series excited," said Ono.

I agree with the first sentence, but I gotta say, I'd have preferred CvS/SvC company vs company set up, as opposed to game vs game.

Yeah I will buy this (Street Fighter version anyways). Gonna be very interesting to see how they mesh the two styles.

Anyone else notice Ryu doing that strange "moving forward while I get up" thing you could do in Tekken at 0:49 of the gameplay video?

#BROKEN Hasney 07-25-2010 06:41 AM

Yeah, that along with more juggling than a fucking circus made me vom in my mouth a little bit.

Khuntry 07-25-2010 01:17 PM

now Tekken characters get to cross up, option select and juggle across the screen into the wall..... nice.

Was really pulling for (a possibly CvS like) Capcom vs Namco. oh well. This could be interesting though.

Funky Fly 08-20-2010 02:30 AM

Jap gaming is just as gay. JRPGs are all about spectacle and complication for the sake of it now. The good gameplay and story lines are a thing of the past. I want to play more stuff like Lost Odyssey and less like Final Fantasy 13. How sad is it that Lost Odyssey feels more like a FF game that FFXIII.

Of course, the SquareEnix merger shouldn't apply here because it's probably not on point somehow. Especially with them buying Eidos as well.

Kalyx triaD 08-20-2010 04:57 PM

Quote:

One is a fighting game of joystick precision, the other of rhythmic button tapping: Finding a way to meld those two styles is perhaps Capcom's greatest challenge with Street Fighter X Tekken.

"Ultimately what we are heading for is a Street Fighter game, so everyone will have Street Fighter-esque moves," said Capcom producer Yoshinori Ono. "The Tekken characters will be entering the Street Fighter world, so they will play like Street Fighter characters but their moves will be Tekken style."

But accomplishing that isn't as simple as creating a new set of moves for players controlling the Tekken characters. Like Street Fighter, the Tekken fighting franchise has a very distinct style of control.

I pointed that out to Ono. How will Capcom bring over the rhythmic button tapping moves of a character like Law, who can deliver blistering kicks by tapping through a series of buttons, without losing that sense of flow and timing, I asked?

Ono says he was worried about that too initially. He plays Nina, another character who relies on tapping a variety of buttons in rhythm to deliver a flurry of attacks.

"When I was going through all of these moves for Nina I thought 'I've seen this somewhere before," he said. "It boiled down to Darkstalkers. In Darkstalkers we have chain combos: Light, light, medium, medium, hard, hard. That is a Capcom version of that rhythmic input command."

Once Ono made that connection, he said, he saw the potential.

"We see great possibilities in these two mixing up," he said. "In that same sense, like how chain combos are used to play Tekken, we'll bring back Nina and Law's (If law is in the game) into Street Fighter X Tekken, incorporating that chain combo style."

While Ono is excited about the project, there's one other project he'd rather be working on: A revist of fighter Darkstalker.

I asked Ono why, since he's been talking about making a new Darkstalker for so long, did he decide to pitch a Street Fighter, Tekken game.

Ono said he didn't expect the higher-ups at Capcom and Namco to approve the game so quickly.

Tekken director Katsuhiro "Harada and I are good friends," he said. "We know each other fairly well, have meals together, eat yakitori, and talk about doing a game together. We used to have this conversation all of the time."

Ono said that once Street Fighter IV launched, and brought with it a resurgence of interest in the fighting genre, he and Harada started talking about making a game together again.

"We decided to bring it up to our management but we thought the discussion was going to go on forever," he said. "We were expecting them to have a long discussion over years and years, but as soon as they had a one high management meeting together, they just stood up and shook hands two seconds after the meeting. That was the moment the decision to make this game was made. I was a bit shocked."

Ono said he had very mixed emotions about how quickly the game was approved by both companies because he still hasn't gotten approval for his pet project: A Darkstalkers remake.

"We have a weekly meeting with (Capcom's Keiji) Inafune," he said. "I bring Darkstalkers up every week and Inafune has still yet to approve it... but I'm going to continue doing it.

Ono says he's so interested in making games like Street Fighter X Tekken and Darkstalkers not just because he's a fan of the games, but because he's a fan of the fighting game genre.

"Street Fighter X Tekken," he said, "is part of a grand scheme of making fighting games the biggest genre of all time."

Kalyx triaD 09-02-2010 03:21 AM

(Engrish warning)

Nextgame.it: Beyond Street Fighter and Tekken, there are other series that would like to see mixed together?

Yoshinori Ono: Absolutely! A dream come true for me would be Onimusha Soul Calibur Vs. The first is an action, all right, but uses a lot of material really attributable to struggle with the traditional Japanese sword, while Soul Calibur is a bit 'more' sci-fi, so I'd love to see these two face the same arena the polar opposite styles, traditional and futuristic. Another crossover that I would really like to see come to life is a Samurai Showdown against Soul Calibur, but since the first is a series of SNK should be made in a remake of Capcom!

(This man is a genius)

Nextgame.it: And who says about a possible new episode of Capcom Vs SNK?

Yoshinori Ono: It's a crossover that I like, but for me the true meaning of the word "passion" is "surprise people." An SNK Vs Capcom 3 would exclaim to the people a "ooooooooh!" But not "or ... my ... god!", As did Street Fighter X Tekken. This is the effect we want to achieve with other future crossover, something that people do not expect.

Clear Version of Debut Fight:

<object width="640" height="390"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/K9zvuw8GnN8&rel=0&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&version=3"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/K9zvuw8GnN8&rel=0&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></embed></object>

Without the loud cheers, and with clearer video, we can pick apart what they're going for here:

- The game is largely SSF4's 'engine'.
- Tekken tropes making the jump are the new wake-up game (which fits fine with the system), preset combos (which SSF4 calls target combos), and of all things Bounding (the bounce effect).
- Ryu's Sweet Chin Music from 3s and MvC3 makes a proper return here.
- It would seem link combos are back, but to avoid accessibility issues I'm certain they will have larger windows.
- There's no real assurance that this is a tag game, the assist attacks may only be a super move thing, or perhaps partners must wait between rounds. Ono has publicly stated that he finds Marvel Vs style tagging to be too fast for his tastes.

Notes:

- Tekken characters will play very similarly to their canon versions. Right down to their core moves/combos operating with lp/mp/lk/mk (four face buttons on pad). Some commands are exactly the same!
- Tag system is based on Tekken Tag style, rather than Capcom's own Vs series. You can tag anytime and even cancel moves into tags (during juggles). You can tag while laying on the ground as well. Tags are mp+mk. Tag Cancels and Ground Recovery Tags cost a meter.
- Juggle system is very Tekken style, anytime after a hit that leaves opponents in the air is your time to beat their ass. Imagine certain 'floaty' moves from SSF4 (Chun's air-HP, Ryu's lp Shoryu on counter hit), but all the time. Tekken's Bound mechanics are here, as well as SF's wall bounce. Along with tag combos, this game will be combo happy.
- Certain moves can be charged, like Ryu's fireball. It seems to have two levels of charge with different effects: Level 1 charge turns the fireball into an EX version (for free!), Level 2 charge turns it into a supermove (also for free!). If other characters operate the same, that's pretty crazy.
- It seems each of the Tekken characters have a move that dodges projectiles. Tekken characters do not give a fuck.
- The super meter has three cells. Each cell grants an EX attack. Supermoves cost merely 2 cells, interestingly enough. I assume the whole meter goes toward those tag team ultras we seen long ago.
- Link combos from SSF4 seem to have been downscaled or outright eliminated. Chain combo style from Tekken flourishes.
- There's a universal launch move; hp+hk, for everyone to start a combo. Although there's no aerial raves like the Vs series, there's still a lot you can do with it. It's actually kinda slow and leaves you open for now.
- lp+lk is still throws.
- Many command throws will catch you in the air, so jumping back from grapplers will not work all the time. This could be another buff for Tekken players in a 2D dimension. Abel just came.
- Ryu's EX Shoryu is his Shin-Shoryu!
- Chun's Lightning Legs is now qcf+k. No mashes.

LOL

And I assume you'll be adding Murdock and King to your stable? This is the fighting game for Drakul.

Kalyx triaD 04-12-2011 02:32 PM

Since SSF4's online suite will be the "bare minimum" starting point for SFxT, I'll just flat out say right now it will have the best online features of any fighting game.

RoXer 04-12-2011 03:37 PM

Seems like all the Tekken characters can foward dash fireballs. Neat little gimmick

I've never played a game with Murdock in it but I like what I see. It's that long since I played Tekken, actually, I can't even remember how King plays and I'm sure it's changed since Tekken 2 or 3.

That's 2 grapplers for Tekken so I'm hoping the game has 2 for Street Fighter. 4 in total is good but I wouldn't mind a couple more although that's really unlikely. I'm thinking Hugo will be one of the SF grapplers. I can see Zangief being in TxSF and not SFxT for some reason.

Kalyx triaD 04-12-2011 03:42 PM

Another Tekken Tag style element; when one character is KO'd... fight's over! No elimination. This makes tagging very important, moreso than a certain 'team' game out now.

I think they will go for 4plyr functionality, because that's another Tekken Tag element. Ono also said there's some surprises in store for the online suite.

RoXer 04-12-2011 03:45 PM

fuck

i'm so tired of fighting games

Kalyx triaD 04-12-2011 03:46 PM

Get some rest.

RoXer 04-12-2011 03:46 PM

Little known fact:

I actually fucking hate fighting games.

Kalyx triaD 04-12-2011 03:53 PM

Your actions are baffling, then.

RoXer 04-12-2011 04:04 PM

Honest to god. The last fighting game I played before SF4 was...MvC2? And before that was... Clayfight 63 1/3??

I think the reason why I enjoyed SF4 so much was because everyone on here enjoyed it and I bought into it. And then that snowballed into ssf4 and mvc3 and blazblue and now I just goozexed Tekken 6 and I don't know why because I FUCKING HATE FIGHTING GAMES. wtf am I doing

Kalyx triaD 04-12-2011 04:21 PM

You're strange. When you hate a game/genre, don't compromise yourself unless there's some incentive doing so. I played Modern Warfare 2 to lvl60 because I had points to prove. Played Blops for a bit before it dawned on me that I hate the series and I no longer have incentive to play (no points to prove). And you know there's no way in hell I can be convinced to play or watch something I have no interest in no matter how popular (CoD, Mass Effect, Fringe, High School Musical, etc).

So unless you like fighting games more than you admit, you should just slow down and play what you love. Also, I don't really agree that playing something because everybody else is playing it is a good enough reason to play something you don't like. That's self torture.

BigDaddyCool 04-12-2011 04:40 PM

lol, Kalyx and his video game morals.

Kalyx triaD 04-12-2011 04:43 PM

If SFxT really gets a 4plyr mode, Khuntry is my tag partner. Tag Championship is so ours.

Nice to see Ken and Chun Li, but you guys know who I'm waiting for.

RoXer 04-12-2011 04:47 PM

shut up

RoXer 04-12-2011 04:48 PM

I don't even like video games.

BigDaddyCool 04-12-2011 04:50 PM

Is there a fighting game that kalyx won't buy and claim dominance at?

#BROKEN Hasney 04-12-2011 04:50 PM

I'm just completely burnt out. Pretty sure SSF4 is going to be the last fighter I play unless KOFXIII is magically good.

Really didn't enjoy MvC3.

Blitz 04-12-2011 04:53 PM

In reading the Destructoid preview, this:

Quote:

"[For] the Street Fighter side of things," explains Ono about the character selection process, "what we didn't want to do is limit it to Street Fighter IV, because that's very easy, they're a very similar style."

What he says is that they have their "eyes cast on a much wider range, on the entire Street Fighter universe." We may even see some familiar, yet somewhat forgotten face: "There's certain characters that haven't appeared in a while or at all, and the people have been requesting them for years. We're going to do our best to get as many of those characters in, as well."
is what has me most intrigued.

Kalyx triaD 04-12-2011 05:07 PM

Karin would be great in this game but it sounds like they'll dip into Street Fighter 1 territory. Maybe get Final Fight faces in there as well.

(I think they should look beyond SF but that's me)

Drakul 04-12-2011 05:23 PM

Quote:

Street Fighter I characters (I'm going to say Joe and Mike).

or at all,
Poison. They say they're going to do their best to get fan requested characters in the game and Poison is the only one to be both fan requested and new as far as being a playable character goes.

Also thinking Rolento and R. Mika could actually be in this. I can see Hugo being Murdocks counter part and Mika being Kings. Mika has been asked for a lot in SSFIV and AE and she is Onos favourite, supposedly. Rolento will be in it because people keep asking for him as well.

Kalyx triaD 04-12-2011 05:31 PM

Hope this means they set Poison's gender controversy to rest. Make her canon female and call it a day.

May also see one of Cammy's Delta Red partners or a Killer Doll member.

Drakul 04-12-2011 05:35 PM

I'm hoping so as well. She was always a women. The transexual thing was just to get around censors. That's obvious.

She was going to be playable in some fighting game that got cancelled so it's not unlikely plus that would mean they'd have a rough idea of her move set already.

Kalyx triaD 04-12-2011 05:37 PM

And if she's in that's almost surely Hugo's confirmation.

#BROKEN Hasney 04-12-2011 05:45 PM

I hope her ending is that she gets the cock beat off of her.

#BROKEN Hasney 04-12-2011 05:46 PM

As in it falls off. It's not brought to orgasm or anything.

Boomer 04-12-2011 06:03 PM

I'm definitely not tired of fighting games, I just don't have anyone local to play with.

This game looks like it will be great though. I am doing my best not to use the word "hype".

Kalyx triaD 04-12-2011 06:17 PM

I used it like 6 times today.

Fignuts 04-12-2011 06:34 PM

wtf why is it so juggley?

This is supposed to be the capcom version but judging from those bullet points kalyx made, they seem to be adhering more to tekken players. Normally I wouldn't mind, as I like tekken, but I really wanted to see tekken charcters in a more sf4 playstyle.

Maybe Namco will do the same thing and make a game closer to street fighter than tekken.

I guess it doesn't matter because I will still enjoy this more than MvC 3. WHich I havn't touched since the week after it launched.

Fignuts 04-12-2011 06:38 PM

Also, I will never understand the fanbase's facination with poison. She is just a background character, and not even a very interesting looking one at that.

I would rather have the fat asian kid from the overpass stage in sf4, than poison.
