Talk about things that are never really talked about...
For example, the turnbuckles, or maybe even the camera crew.
I've noticed that in WWE there is now only one, MAYBE two photographers at ringside anymore. Either they're really good at hiding or they've dramatically scaled back. |
Why is there ramps in wrestling?
White ropes suck.
The ropes. I raised this issue a few weeks ago.
Why are the ropes on Raw white these days? Why are they no longer red? Is red only for PPV's now? Speaking of PPV ropes, I miss the black ropes on PPV's. |
Why in a No-DQ match, does the ref count when someone reaches the ropes during a submission hold? It's not like if the guy doesn't break the hold he can then be disqualified.
Volare knows.
what do you think is the thickness of the padding on the mats?
Also, on the subject of ropes, I hate the white ropes too. I miss the red for RAW and the blacks for PPVs.
about an inch or two. (mats)
I think I remember reading around the time of the HD switch, that they were cutting back on photographers, because someone thought they were already too apparent.
Why do they have photographers?
I miss the red, white and blue ropes for every shows.
Why did WCW have the bright blue ring mat?

becuase they bought them that way.

Lately for some reason, I've been paying close attention to the camera angles and shots. They seem to have four main cameras for matches. One wide shot, one that gets close-ups from afar, and the two handheld cams at ringside.
During promos, the camera guys go into the ring now. I'm not sure when that started. I remember when Piper was guest host he was cutting a promo and looked into the camera and was like "Really? You're gonna stand right there, are ya?". They are usually quite smooth about their moves into the ring, though. I caught one entering the ring on Monday, but usually they can do it totally unseen. Like ninjas or something. |

I think beforehand, they just got up on the apron but didn't enter the ring.
Someone correct me if I am wrong. |

I suppose a bigger question to me is why even worry about their presence? WWE is supposed to be a sport, as far as Kayfabe goes. NFL and NBA have cameramen, so why not fake wrestling that pretends to be real wreslting? I mean, it's best if they're out of the way, but it's hardly breaking the fourth wall by noticing them. |
What do you suppose the announcers' desk is made out of? How much do you think it costs? They go through them a lot. Would it be breaking kayfabe if WWE started making them so they had snap joints so they could be re-assembled after a wrestler was put through it? Would it be hilarious if one night they broke it and rebuilt it in every match?
Why don't they use the big blue cage anymore?
I think the monitors on the table cost more than the table itself.

There was a thread about how much certain equipment cost a couple months back.

How much do you think the hair/makeup person for Raw makes? There must be somebody who works on the divas, not to mention the time it takes to do Sheamus' hair and Goldust's face paint.
Goldust does his own face paint, according to his Twitter.
Yeah, I've known that for a while now.
I didn't know he had a Twitter account though. |
Shawn Michaels is bad at the internet.
A pity not many listen to Goldust though.
I think what we all really want to know about Goldust is if he is nude under that costume?

Duke "The Dumpster" Droese was the first person to beat Triple H.

When wrestlers come out and attack people when the lights go out...are they kayfabe hiding under the ring or running down the ramp?

After ripping the padding off the top turnbuckle and exposing the steel underneath, why do wrestlers wait till the refs back is turned before they use it to their advantage? Surely this is not a DQ'able offense when ramming your opponent into the ring post is perfectly legal.

Also, if they are underneath the ring they could be getting their eyes oriented for when the lights shut off so they can see what's going on. |

that is an unsatisfactory answer and I don't accept it
One of The Fraze's youtube videos showed Taker calmly walking into the ring from the ramp and leaving the ring later when it goes all dark. But I guess for bigger venues when the ramp is longer, he would be under the ring.
Sometimes, props are used to sneak people under the ring. (Caskets, anyone?)
I've always wondered if WWE had some sort of contract with a hotel chain, rent-a-car place etc. for the road trips.

I wonder how much the WWE pays a local jobber. |

So why do wrestlers act candidly so often? Clearly, the backstage cameras are addressed within the show, so they're aware of them, so what's the deal? |
Why is it, when a pitcher makes an error which causes a run to be scored, that it doesn't count against his era? It makes no sense!
Why did they get rid of Smackdown's old set? At least it made them look different from Raw. That fist was awesome.

That line is just great. |

There was a brief period of time (before the transition to HD) when the Raw set had a ramp, whereas the Smackdown set didn't. I miss the fist though :-\
I think that was due to The Undertaker being on SmackDown.
SmackDown had a ramp when The Undertaker had his "Biker Gimmick" but when he returned to his "Deadman Gimmick" the ramp disappeared. I think that was so it would be safe for him to get to the ring without falling off the ramp due to the darkness or slipping on the ramp due to the dry ice smoke. Or maybe both. |
How has that changed now then?
Quote:

Taker could fall off of the ramp and it would still be someone else's fault no matter what.
*Taker gets to the back*
Taker: WHO THE FUCK SWEAT ON THE RAMP!? |
Exactly.
I like it when tag team wrestlers use the hand rope. I dunno...It takes me back to a better time in Professional tag team wrestling. I HATE when it just dangles there and they don't use it as the prop...
I remember when they brought them back and everyone went apeshit for them.
I miss when they'd use them to choke their opponents behind the ref's back. |
tag team wrestling is an ARTFORM that very few workers today seem to grasp. In TNA both Beer Money and MCMG have "it" as far as tag team wrestling goes.
In WWE I can't even think of 1 tag team apart from Hart Dynasty that really shows they understand how to work a vintage emotional tag team match. I do like Vance Archer and Kurt Hawkins over on Smackdown as they do show some tandem moves that nobody else is doing which I appreciate. ....but loook where they are. Not on TV....ever. |
Quote:
That's more a matter of booking than the wrestlers I think. Tag team wrestling has been lost. That's something TNA should be capitalizing on. MCMG/Beer Money has been great, but they should build up a great tag division around them.
I said that in my last review of TNA. They need a niche and they really should expand on this tag team thing while it is lightning hot.
Motor City Machine Guns
Beer Money AJ Styles & Kazarian Ink, inc. Team 3D Hire Paul London and get Londrick back together. Get Amazing Red a tag parner. I say X Division and tag team wrestling should be their focus. |
