NBA 2K11
I haven't picked up a basketball game in a few years, and I was just gonna wait for NBA Jam to come back, but this may convince me to get NBA 2K11.
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/111/1112362p1.html Yeah, that's right. You get to be Michael Jordan. You go through some of his most legendary moments and recreate them. Quote:
Definitely gotta get this. http://xbox360media.ign.com/xbox360/...136153-000.jpg |

As long as it plays as good as 10k, I don't care about any of that.
I saw a screen cap of MJ leaning on Scottie after the flu game. Can't remember where I saw it but it looked amazing...anyways....This is always one my of my 2 yearly sports title purchases. This just further reinforces buying this game for the 11th year.
Have never bought a basketball game but decided a few days ago when I read about the challenges and getting to play Jordan's career on any team that I will def pick this up in about 18 months when it's really cheap.
MyPlayer Mode better be de-bugged this time around. My player is still stuck in the D-League and I'm on my third season.
Buying. Simple.
Haven't bought a B Ball game in ages either. I hardly follow NBA anymore but I might pick this up.
demo is out. Very impressed so far, it doesnt seem to suffer from that slow down in the post like 2k10 did, and as usual, the animations are improved.
I can see me and Roxer having more Suns/Lakers series going down to the final game. |
Need to improve my low post game
The new lighting creates a spot on the ball and its distracting
Gunna put this in the 2K thread since Elite doesn't really deserve it's own thread.
The demo for Elite came out today and I tried and didn't like it but loved...the idea of it. I guess. The presentation is ESPN style so that will blow 2K out of the water, no doubt. Wish 2K could cut a deal with TNT but I think that other shitty game has a deal with them. Anyway, I always love TV-Style broadcasts in games and it looks like Elite will have the leg up on 2K. No biggie. The controls... are different. Obviously. I think I love it but I dunno. I was a big MLL (Lacrosse...lol) fan a few years back when Arizona actually had a team. Tickets were on the cheap and our team was actually good and the games were fun to go to. I always wondered what a true game would be like and to have movement of the player with the LS and movement of the stick with the RS. This seemed so simple and a no brainer. Basically, what the NHL franchise has done the past couple of years. There is an indy LAX game, but it's pretty terrible. I'm getting off the point. I loved the idea of controlling the player with two thumbsticks rather than buttons. So I was really psyched to try this out. But for me, it doesn't work. Not the controls themselves, but the presentation of the game. I think if you take away the sideline camera angle you lose a lot of feel to the game. I think it was an extremely ballsy move by EA to go to a drop down camera and thumbstick controls. Really ballsy. There will be a lot of backlash (mostly from black people whose screen names are YoUnGjEeZy, GhostKillllA, oOX smoke XOo, etc) and it will be interesting to see how this is played out. So, I'm giving a lot of credit to EA for doing this, but I don't think it will work. And besides, even if they did switch back to buttons, they STILL have the inferior game. I'm not bagging on the controls. I love them and can't wait to see how EA can expand with them. But it's still not as good as 2K |
Is there team play in 2K?
Roxer&Wadding vs. Alvarado&Jaun |
You would lose...badly
yeah that was posted in the 1000,000 replies. Its fake because you can't get that camera angle from the demo
If that's fake, somebody has gone through a fuckload of effort, the ball hits the player model, the player models arms 'react', the ball 'reacts' etc. Not to mention how utterly pointless it would be.
Could be like a debug version or something.
But you cannot get that camera angle in the demo. Even if you could, the control scheme would be messed up. |

Dunno NBA Elite looks pretty good too. Plus it has NBA Jam. Kinda torn.

EDIT: Not sure where I got next year from. It's delayed indefinitely. |

It can't be. You CAN NOT get that camera angle in the demo. You can't. Go try.
Don't because you can't
They've pulled the demo from XBL. I went on there a minute ago to try it out and see how the game played and it's gone, it was up there a couple days ago.
Loving My Player mode so much. 2nd Round draft pick for the Knicks, didn't finish the summer, eventually picked up by the Pistons and have now finally taken T-Macs starting position.
We suck though :'( and Yao Ming is fucking unplayable. |
This game is fucking titties right now

These fucking Jordan challenges are going to be a pain in the ass, I can already tell. Maybe not down the line with better teamates but that first one was a bitch. How am I going to score 69 with only 8 minute quarters? And 6 assists. May as well just not play D so the other team doesn't hold on to the ball forever. But I also have to win the game. Should be fun.
Just tried to cheat my way through all the achievements by fiddeling with the sliders like I do every year but nothing popped at the end of the game. Fuck
Had it on 4 mins though. Appearently it works on 5. I'll try it later.
9.5 from IGN? Wow.
Just beat the "bad boys" jordan challenge :)
This game is insanely good. They fucking nailed it this year. It IS the NBA.
It's too bad 2K doesn't have the NFL license. :(
The coach of the Pistons just got fired. Was not expecting that to happen in the game.
We suck, yes. Just didn't think the game would fire a coach in my player mode. Only found out when fielding questions at the press conference :'( |
We got Larry Brown back . But 2 wins layer he got sacked. Seems if your season was shit, coaches get fired every other game no matter how good you play.
Our 4th coach of the season was the the same as the first coach. |
Peja is ranked a 61
I'm gunna cry :( |
Just crushed the Nique challenge. Jordan didn't even play in the 2nd half. 87-57. This might be easier than I thought.
UGHHH. Gotta fight my own teammate for rebounds who also happens to be the greatest rebounder in the game.
Does Rodman have different colored hair every game?
Rented it for PS3. I guess I suck because I played about 5 games on Pro difficulty and lost them all.

They've got to fix online next year

no it really isn't

Online and passing from a broadcast camera needs to be fixed

I don't know if you guys play crew games at all, but we've found that if you game your system settings to a time zone where it's around 4am to 10am - you'll pretty much instantly find a match. No idea why it works, but it does.
3 games into My Player and the end of the last 2 has been my team down by 1-2 points with possession and the guy on my team gets a 5-second inbound penalty in both games and we don't even get a chance to tie or go ahead. What a fucking joke.
My player is pretty awful in this game. One of my guys is supposedly a 3 point specialist and he barely hits the rim, I could understand that when I began the season, but I found a save hacker and maxed him out to see if he would get any better and the difference is noticable, but only in that he is scoring around 10 points a game now where as he was scoring about 4 before editing him. I'd think maybe it was me and my timing being off, but I can drop 3's almost at will with Gallinari in Association mode. But there are just so many glitches and poor plays that go on in My Player that it just drains the fun out of it at times. He got drafted to Milwaukee and that team can't hit a shot to save their lives.
I love my 7' center though. I didn't edit him just building him up naturally, and he's pretty much a force in the paint. Fresh Prince hairstyle and all. |
Dunno, my guy is a 3 specialist and I'm hot and cold, some games I'll hit everything and some I'll be missing for fun but I kind of expect that with my ratings being so shit. My biggest gripe with the whole My Player gimmick is how rough some of the 'punishments' during games are, like losing half a grade bar for allowing your man to score but getting maybe quarter, if that, back when you score yourself or getting punished for holding the ball too long despite either A. nobody being open/attempting to get open or B. me scoring from it but still getting punished, how often the guy you're supposed to be 'marking' changes, especially when it's to some guy on the other side of the court who's heading to score before you can get anywhere near him and you still get punished and so on etc. Having to play 12 minute quarters to get realistic scores is a pain in the ass as well. Ditto being drafted by the Wizards, awful awful team even with Wall. I'm a SG and the Bulls are interested though so maybe I'll ask for a trade and flee town.
My guy was really good right after I edited him he scored like 20 points, which since he comes off the bench really impressed me. 2 games later he scores 8 points despite playing more minutes and bricking every shot in the first quarter and only hitting 1 shot in the second. But as poor as he played they kept bumping his bar up because he was taking good shot opportunities. It's probably me not taking enough open shots, but then again they never pass the ball when I'm open, only when there's a dude in my face and like 5 seconds on the clock. Otherwise Michael Redd jacks up some shot that makes my guy look better by comparison.
I get where you're coming from on the teammate bar though. I know I'm playing my position wrong most likely so my lack of shots or bad shots are probably on me somewhat, but my guy gets subbed in at SG a lot despite being a natural SF and sometimes they pass me the ball to bring up court. I get the holding the ball too long penalty just for bringing it all the way up court, I couldn't even comprehend it the first time that happened so I just ran to get open and dropped a 3. Got like 1/3 back of what I lost. Everytime I play My Player though I can't get over how much it reminds me of the old NCAA basketball game for the SNES. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/JR9L7resxA0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> The graphics are better but the guys move the same and it has the same camera angle, cracks me up everytime. Speaking of trades I thought it was hilarious when after 7 games the insider said you've been with this team long enough now with your skills you can demand a trade. At that point I was averaging like 3 points a game, and I think Charlotte may have been the only team interested. I want to leave in a way, but my pride won't let me leave before I make starter on the Bucks. I've gotten to the point where I'm the 6th man on the depth chart and play more minutes than Drew Gooden but he still starts. |
My player went from back up PG on the Knicks to starter for the Lakers. I WIN
My other guy is backup center for the Spurs. I was actually having fun with him and having success but I stopped playing the game for a while trying to finish Assassin's Creed.

I do too, it was pretty fun after you got used to it.

There was a backup PG on North Carolina that could nail three pointers from the half court line 99 percent of the time. For real. Stefan was his name I think.

I like nba2k11 a lot, just hate my player mode. Like you guys said, too many glitches makes it a waste imo. |
