NCAA Football 2010 Season Thread

It's almost here fellas. 13 Days and counting until the kickoff of the College Football season. We should be in store for another exciting season full of plenty of intriguing story lines. Will Alabama repeat? Will Boise St. run the table? Use this thread to lay down your thoughts and expectations about the upcoming season. Go Tigers!

Supreme Olajuwon 08-20-2010 04:48 PM

Got some monster non conference games in the first 2 weeks of the season

Boise State vs. Virginia Tech
Florida State vs. Oklahoma
Miami (FL) vs. Ohio State
Penn State vs. Alabama

Can't waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaait

RP 08-22-2010 09:46 AM

Purdue will win the Big Ten this year

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-22-2010 07:58 PM

Wow those 4 games are ridiculous

James Steele 08-22-2010 11:18 PM

BOOMER SOONER!

Supreme Olajuwon 08-24-2010 07:41 AM

Remember in 2007 when there were a grand total of zero Sophomore Heisman winners, and then we had three straight Sophomores win? Well assuming teams load up the box on Alabama and stop Ingram from repeating, it's a very real possibility that we'll have a fourth, and it's almost guaranteed there will be another Sophomore finalist.

Dion Lewis, RB Pitt (1988 total yards, 18 TDs last year)
Ryan Williams, RB Va Tech (1835 yards, 22 TDs)
LaMichael James, RB Oregon (1714 yards, 14 TDs although he's suspended to start the season)
Landry Jones, QB Oklahoma (3198 yards, 26 TDs, 14 INT subbing for Sam Bradford)
Andrew Luck, QB Stanford (2,575 yards, 13 TDs, 4 INT)

Andrew Luck will be the #1 pick in the 2012 draft. There's no doubt in my mind. 6'4 235 lbs with a great arm. Actually he might even be the #1 pick in next year's draft since he's a red shirt.

Boomer 08-24-2010 09:06 AM

I have absolutely no idea how Georgia will fair this year. I'm not a huge college football fan, but I still live in Athens, so its kinda hard to ignore. AJ Green is probably the only Bulldog guaranteed to have an amazing year.

McLegend 09-02-2010 11:46 PM

Utah deserves to lose this game for that stupid icing the kicker thing.

Supreme Olajuwon 09-03-2010 08:20 AM

Terrelle Pryor looked so much better as a passer last night than he did last year.

Evil Vito 09-04-2010 03:54 PM

UConn has a shitty first drive but an amazing punt puts Michigan on their own 4. Michigan then easily drives all the way down the field for a TD.

Definitely got one of those "well, it's already over" feelings. One of those games where it becomes apparent early that they aren't ready.

RP 09-04-2010 04:03 PM

bad throw by Marve. Was looking good until that crap.

RP 09-04-2010 04:40 PM

Comon Purdue. Lets play some defense today.

Evil Vito 09-04-2010 05:11 PM

Holy shit. I know there are always blowouts in the first week, but Oregon is leading New Mexico 58-0 at the half. God damn.

I never really like the 1st week of college football due to almost all of the big name schools and conferences usually having a cupcake team to start the season just to pad up stats. I understand the reasoning since nobody wants to kill their season with the 1st week (ex. Michigan vs Appalachian State).

Its also always at home for the big name teams as well with a few exceptions each year (ex. Pitt away to Utah but Pitt was ranked and needed to prove its a legit Big East team).

But now we got a ballgame

RoXer 09-04-2010 11:50 PM

Unreal

Legendary624 09-06-2010 02:02 PM

Sup fellas. Laptop has been broken the last few weeks so I didn't have the opportunity to post about opening weekend.

I got to attend the Clemson and UNC game in Atlanta which made for a pretty loaded Saturday for me. UNC proved a lot to me considering that they even hung in the game with LSU while sporting a "JV" roster. I don't know much about the LSU program but Les Miles will have to do a better job of 2nd half motivating if he wants his team to compete for a division title in the SEC. The Clemson game was typical opening day excitement coupled with lackluster play. With the loss of CJ Spiller, I can only hope and pray that my Tigers can reach 8 wins this year....at best.

Other thoughts:

1. The Ole Miss loss to Jacksonville State was inexcusable....enough said.

2. UF and Oklahoma will recover just fine after sleepwalking through their openers. Opening week always leads to overreactions by most fans and media members.

3. Oregon looked amazing. While they were playing New Mexico, its hard to imagine that they were missing arguably their best player.

4. Notre Dame and Michigan still have a lot to prove. Let's see what happens in their matchup next week.

Next week should be one of the better weekends of the year. Already counting down until Saturday.

Droford 09-06-2010 08:04 PM

This Boise State/VT game is going to be insane.

sounds/looks like the entire Hokie Nation is at Fed Ex Field.

RoXer 09-06-2010 08:14 PM

Sick uniforms from both teams tonight. Somewhere, Jesus Stimasworth is smiling.

RoXer 09-06-2010 08:14 PM

Weird material on VT's helmet

Supreme Olajuwon 09-06-2010 08:39 PM

Also LOL @ this stupid douche on VT's special teams.

Part Boise State being for real, part VT being to jacked up for the game and making dumb mistakes.

Boise's defense is pretty awesome.

DaveBrawl 09-06-2010 10:56 PM

I'm not liking these VT uniforms, I get they're in tribute to the original team colors and the Corps of Cadets and that's awesome, but I'm kind of sick of everybody having these black uniforms. Kind of kills the point of team colors in my opinion if everyone gets black jerseys with different color stripes even if it is a once a year deal like Nebraska or Georgia do, or even tributes like VT's. The maroon and orange was always a cool thing in my opinion, made the games a lot more fun with colors that no one else had.

That being said I am glad they have been able to fight back from that early hole though.

Skippord 09-06-2010 11:37 PM

YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH BOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

McLegend 09-06-2010 11:39 PM

Sweet game

DaveBrawl 09-06-2010 11:42 PM

Well looks like VT got the early season choke job out of the way very early this year, I figured it would be one of the teams from NC that usually seem to get us.

Supreme Olajuwon 09-10-2010 08:11 AM

Huge week for Big Ten football coming up.

Ohio State vs. Miami (FL)
Penn State at Alabama
Michigan at Notre Dame

Thinking OSU's D gets to Jacory Harris before Miami's D gets to Pryor, and the Buckeyes win a low scoring game.
Alabama will probably smash Penn St. in Tuscaloosa. BTW Bryan-Denny Stadium is officially over 100,000 capacity now.
Dunno what to think about Michigan right now. No way Denard Robinson can run the ball 25+ times a game. Still mad at gay ass Brian Kelly so I might actually root for Michigan in this game.

RP 09-10-2010 08:16 AM

OSU and Michigan should win. I dont know about Penn State. Havent paid much attention to there team this year. I think Iowa could beat Alabama, but Penn St, i dunno.

James Steele 09-10-2010 12:51 PM

RP, get serious.

Supreme Olajuwon 09-10-2010 01:12 PM

Penn St has a true frosh at QB. As good as he might be, I would never ever ever bet on a team with a freshman QB against Nick Saban. It's not gonna end well.

McLegend 09-10-2010 11:28 PM

Villanova football was asked to join the Big East? Really?

Loose Cannon 09-11-2010 12:07 AM

I know it's been only one game, but the Irish's defense last week looked completely different (i.e. better) compared to last year.

Skippord 09-11-2010 02:08 AM

did they play like Middle Tennessee State or was it a real team?

McLegend 09-11-2010 02:20 AM

It was Purdue.

Skippord 09-11-2010 03:39 AM

oh well that's reasonably good then

James Steele 09-11-2010 04:07 AM

ROFL

RP 09-11-2010 04:25 PM

Joey Slugs 09-11-2010 05:59 PM

Irish have a TON of momentum right now

Emperor Smeat 09-11-2010 06:59 PM

The Florida-South Florida game was brutal for the South Florida QB. 5 for 20 in passing and had almost as many INTs (4) as he did in completions.

Michigan vs Notre Dame has been pretty good but these games are usually good every year even when both teams were horrible.

McLegend 09-11-2010 07:07 PM

It so obvious that Notre Dame is going to lose this game.

McLegend 09-11-2010 07:20 PM

Nice job not kicking the field goal at the end of the 1st half... Idiots

Splaya 09-11-2010 07:25 PM

DENARD ROBINSON FOR HEISMAN

Tiger Paw 09-16-2010 12:58 PM

We will know more about Notre Dame and Michigan when they play halfway fucking decent teams. Cripple Fights prove nothing.

Supreme Olajuwon 09-16-2010 01:24 PM

Alabama is actually playing at Duke this weekend. Dunno how Duke pulled that one off but good for them. I'm sure Wallace Wade Stadium will be rocking.

McLegend 09-18-2010 03:40 PM

McLegend 09-18-2010 07:31 PM

Innovator 09-19-2010 12:03 AM

Why would you not have someone play back in case something like that happened. Cmon it was a 48 yard attempt FFS.

Evil Vito 09-19-2010 10:48 AM

There's this one guy I'm friends with and every single time his team loses there is an excuse for it. Naturally the second that play happened yesterday his Facebook status is "Refs had it in for Notre Dame. FUCK THE BIG 10!"

Yeah, I'll admit that the play clock clearly ran out, but I've noticed that in college they almost always give an extra second for field goals. My guess is that the reason is because the holder has no way of seeing the clock or something.

Supreme Olajuwon 09-19-2010 01:04 PM

LMAO @ the stunned look on the Notre Dame marching band guys in the background.
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=...pg&w=359&h=512Just wish I could've found a pic of the look on their coach's face when the Fake FG worked to perfection in the OT. It may only be Week 4 coming up and we still have one nobody team to play, but wow would it be great if my Spartans could actually win the rest of their home games (I think they have like 5 more home games this season after last night...) and maybe even one or two on the road and contend for or win the Big 10. Great game last night between the two ball clubs and that highlight is pretty much guaranteed to be seen until the end of the season on highlight reels everywhere. Great "moment" in Michigan State football history.

for some dumb reason Im jumping OFF the Boise State bandwagon and on to the Jim Harbaugh led Stanford bandwagon, who are going to fuck up Oregon later on tonight.

Supreme Olajuwon 10-02-2010 10:45 AM

 @ GameDay in Oregon

9 am East Coast start time means 6 am on the West Coast. It was still dark out when they started. YEAH COLLEGE

Supreme Olajuwon 10-02-2010 11:57 AM

Lot of people calling today's game at Illinois a trap game for Ohio State but I really don't see it. Terrelle Pryor has more total yards and touchdowns than Illinois' entire team combined. Of course I'll look awfully foolish if Illinois wins now.

Skippord 10-02-2010 02:47 PM

17-13 UH OH SUPREME!!!

Skippord 10-02-2010 02:50 PM

IU could potentially upset Michigan. Ben Chappell is really good. People dont know about him.

Corndad 10-02-2010 07:01 PM

The end of the that LSU-Tennessee game was one of the craziest things I've ever seen.

Droford 10-02-2010 08:41 PM

14-3 Stanford about 10 minutes in.

fuck having to watch it not in HD though...who the hell cares about ND/BC

now its 21-3!

Kris P Lettus 10-03-2010 11:19 AM

Alabama is by far the number 1 team in the country.. Can't see any team stopping their run or being able to put up more than 17 points on their D..

LSU is the worst 5-0 team of all time.. Les Myles is a fucking idiot who got uber lucky yesterday.. How do you have a $3 mill coach who has NO 2 minute drill??

Ole Miss looked good yesterday.. Run D is still suspect but Masoli is the truth..

DAMN iNATOR 10-03-2010 03:45 PM

How 'bout them Spartans? 2nd week in a row without Mark Dantonio (this time because of being treated for a blood clot in his leg, for those who didn't watch or hear), and Don Treadwell's genius playcalling nets (then) #24 MSU a HUGE 34-24 win over (then) #11 Wisconsin to open Big Ten play.

Now to just go down and take out Michigan in the "Big House" Saturday.

Emperor Smeat 10-03-2010 04:27 PM

Looks like ESPN experts were right in saying regardless if Boise State were to pull off another undefeated year or be dominating in every game, they would actually drop in the polls.

Oregon takes #3 while Boise State drops to #4 in the polls although #2 Ohio State didn't move at all even though they struggled vs Illinois.

Theoretically, Boise State could drop even more since below them is LSU, Oklahoma, Auburn, and Nebraska for undefeated teams. Then a few 1-loss BCS teams and undefeated Michigan.

Kris P Lettus 10-03-2010 06:06 PM

Undefeated in the SEC is rough..

Auburn was robbed in 2004...

Skippord 10-03-2010 07:47 PM

maybe if Boise beats the rest of their opponents by a hundred points each people will respect them

Kris P Lettus 10-03-2010 08:04 PM

Maybe if they were that good with weekly competition up to their level, people would respect them??

Don't get me wrong, I like the Smurfs, but they'd be hard pressed to put 14 points on the board against Bama..

McLegend 10-03-2010 08:28 PM

They are good enough to beat Alabama in one game.

Now they wouldn't go undefeated in SEC though. Probably get 2 loses.

Kris P Lettus 10-03-2010 10:16 PM

No way their d Could stop Ingram and Richardson, let alone put up points on that D..

Skippord 10-03-2010 10:33 PM

Boise's defense is incredibly underrated, I'm not saying they would stop Ingram and Richardson. I'm just saying they could.

Kris P Lettus 10-03-2010 10:34 PM

I don't think anyone could..

Ingram is like Emmitt Smith on HGH..

Skippord 10-03-2010 10:35 PM

I was actually saying this morning that that guy is basically unstoppable

fucking monster

Kris P Lettus 10-03-2010 10:39 PM

Yeah, I dont care who'll get the first over all pick, but if they dont pick him, their GM should be fired..

Most of those teams will lose 1. Auburn however, is very sneaky good. OU or Nebraska will lose. Michigan's defense is horrible. They will lose. I wouldnt be suprised if they lose a couple.

It does suck for Boise State but honestly, there schedule doesnt even come close to some of these other teams listed. And Oregon deserved to jump them btw.

Supreme Olajuwon 10-05-2010 12:34 AM

Mountain West looks good again this year so TCU or Utah will probably jump them as well.

Boomer 10-08-2010 11:39 AM

AJ Green basically solidified his top 3 NFL Draft status with one half's worth of stats last week. He will dominate in the NFL.

Gonna enjoy the last few games of his college career while I can. UGA is going to lose, so I might as well enjoy something.

also a pretty interesting game between Alabama and SC

The rest of the Big Ten season should be very interesting. Been forever since I've been this excited about a Michigan State team that's poised to take home the Big Ten crown.

RP 10-13-2010 08:35 AM

All i know is Purdue manned up big time last week beating Northwestern. Nobody in the country has injury problems like Purdue. 1st and 2nd string QB, gone. Starting RB, gone. Both starting WR's, gone. They completely changed there offense on the fly before the Northwestern game so that it was made for a running QB.

Danny Hope is amazing coach. I'm praying he beats Minnesota. Then it will be on like Donky Kong against OSU.

Boise State for #1! WHOO

Supreme Olajuwon 10-16-2010 11:57 PM

Had that feeling about today. Everyone was talking OSU up and not giving Wisconsin any credit. But Wisconsin handled their business.

Emperor Smeat 10-17-2010 08:58 PM

BCS released 1st official poll.

Oklahoma is #1, Oregon #2, Boise State #3, Auburn #4, and TCU #5.

Initially it was expected Boise State would be #1 based on a the computers saying their strength and schedule was strong compared to their opponents and conference but lost a lot of support in the coaches and Harris polls. It also didn't help their quality wins and Nevada kept loosing to hurt strength.
