Luna Vachon dead at 48

Take it with a grain of salt, but a close friend (and apparently her contact for bookings) is reporting her death. http://twitter.com/DavidHerro

I'm not seeing any reports on PWInsider or any other major site, but it could be developing.

EDIT: Scratch that. Observer just confirmed it. Damnit. :(

It is with deep sadness to report that former WWF Women’s wrestler Luna Vachon (Gertrude Vachon), the niece of WWE Hall of Famer Mad Dog Vachon, has passed away today aged 48. No details are known at this time as to the cause of death of Vachon, who recently lost all of her possessions in a house fire.

David Herro, promoter of Great Lakes Championship Wrestling, where Luna was a 1-time GLCW Ladies Champion confirmed Vachon’s death on his twitter, “With a broken heart I am crushed 2 tell u that one of the most amazing people I have ever known has died,” Herro said. “God Bless Luna Vachon. I love u”

What? She was awesome. In some sick and twisted way, I always thought she was sexy.

RIP Luna

Damn. :( RIP

I remember reading about the house fire not too long ago. Hope it wasn't a depression issue.

I miss having her around as the oddball of the divas division.

Aguakate 08-27-2010 02:36 PM

...I hope it has nothing to do with depression and suicide, because of the housefire she had recently, where she lost everything...

...Wow. This one is sad.

Mike the Metal Ed 08-27-2010 02:38 PM

RIP Luna. :(

BizarroKing 08-27-2010 02:41 PM

That sucks, hopefully it wasn't a drug related death...

Wasn't she married to Gangrel?

The Fugitive 08-27-2010 02:44 PM

They divorced, if I remember correctly. WWE's posted confirmation on their website now.

Haze 08-27-2010 02:48 PM

Wow RIP.

Not a good year to be a former wrestler.

Damn! RIP, Luna.

ClockShot 08-27-2010 03:16 PM

Was in good mood 'til I read this.

Bummer. Luna fucking scared me when I grew up watching wrestling. But grew to love her. But as Vito said, I hope it's not a depression thing from the house fire.

R.I.P.

Hanso Amore 08-27-2010 03:20 PM

Wow, I forgot she was alive.

Domino 08-27-2010 03:49 PM

Sad to see, I grew up being freaked out by Luna, haha.

Not that it's been released yet, but I would imagine it was probably a suicide; probably depressed because of the fire.

BigDaddyCool 08-27-2010 03:50 PM

By the same token less people will care when HBPunk dies.

HBPunk, you say these outlandish things because it's the only way you can think of to get people to notice you. Instead of just coming up with funny and intelligent things to say, you say unconventional offensive things because it's the only way people would ever look at you twice. It's cute.

Yeah, feeding trolls and all that. Whatev.

Emperor Smeat 08-27-2010 04:03 PM

:(

Talented wrestler who had a very distinctive look compared to other other women wrestlers of her time and even today's women wrestlers. The veiny appearance on the side of her head used to freak me out as a kid watching wrestling and for a long time thought those were real until years later.

First off... you're a bitch for lacking respect for the loss of a human life.

Secondly... in forgetting she was alive wasn't saying that she didn't accomplish anything because she accomplished plenty. But it's more along the lines of living a quiet life. A private life. Not having to go out getting arrested, getting busted, going to jail or anything like lots of other former wrestlers. She stayed to herself, family, or whatever it was she did. She stayed out of the public eye for the most part.

So how about you shut the fuck up if you don't care to show any respect for the loss of a human life because the posters behind these names... are real people. And there are real people that knew Luna and are going to be heart broken about her loss. And just because we don't know her personally doesn't mean we can't be remorseful about it. But we can at least show respect and some class.

She was a person first, entertainer second. Rest in Piece the person that portrayed the character Luna Vachon that we grew up watching for years. Whether she scared the crap out of us or not... she was a one of a kind character.

BigDaddyCool 08-27-2010 04:04 PM

My Final Heaven 08-27-2010 05:03 PM

I've seen many instances of her talking wlile not in "Kayfabe", shoot interviews & the like, & the one thing I picked up from all of it was that she had a true, deep respect for the wrestling profession as a whole. Not the glossy WWEstyle "WERE GUNNA MAKE A DVD OF RICKY STEAMBOAT CUZ HE WAS OLDSKOOL" seethrough shit, This was a woman who knew her history, knew what she wanted to do with her life from when she was a toddler & held "the business" in a higher regard than 99% of anybody else.

The 1st wrestling death I've been compelled to give my 2 cents about in a long time, Damn.

Has HB(S)Punk not been banned yet? Idiot.

I've been watching WrestleMania X the last few nights, she teamed with Bam Bam to take on Doink & Dink in a fun little match.

So far this years big names were Kanyon, Lance Cade and Luna Vachon.

Last year was Buddy Rose, Test, Capt. Lou and Steve Williams.

2008 was Gary Hart, Killer Kowalski and SD Jones.

2007 was Bam Bam, Mike Awesome, Bad News Brown, Ernie Ladd, Sherri, Benoit (and Nancy/Woman too..) and Fabulous Moolah.

If anything, 08 was a quiet year and Id say this has been quiet so far up until recently.

Cool King 08-27-2010 05:37 PM

I've noticed that the WWE have removed her "Where Are They Now?" profile from the main page but it's not actually been deleted. :-\

That would imply he was once relevant. We both know that's not true.

This one was kind of out of left field. Luna wasn't exactly forgettable per se, but years out of the spotlight, and you just kind of stop thinking about her.

Next Big Thing 08-27-2010 08:34 PM

2007 was the roughest in my opinion.

YoungFlyFlashy 08-27-2010 08:53 PM

Another thread taking a left turn at TPWW, what a surprise.

RIP to Luna!

Tom Guycott 08-27-2010 11:21 PM

So no more will we ever hear the phrase "THE BIIIITCH IS BAAAAAAAACK!" in her gutteral growl.

RIP Luna.

KayfabeMan 08-27-2010 11:31 PM

Have a LOT of respect for Luna.

I grew up around her here in FL, and had the pleasure of meeting her a number of times - including hanging around the lockerroom where she worked shows with Dave Heath aka Gangrel. Truly a very classy and genuine person outside the ring, and a GREAT talent in the ring. She could brawl, wrestle, talk on the mic, and had a great outlandish gimmick / persona. Also, she came from a VERY overlooked wrestling family. R.I.P.

Very true. She's now up there with her aunt Vivian.

crusnik 08-28-2010 12:43 AM

I would like to say first, R.I.P Luna Vachon, I think it's sad that any wrestler passes away.I believe arguing on this certain thread is pointless and idiotic and it disrespects the person's memory.while i agree on saying what is on your mind, right here n now is not it.let her rest in peace and move on, thank you.

DInsaneOne 08-28-2010 01:45 AM

R.I.P Luna Vachon

very sad to hear about her death, as just yesterday i was speaking to an old schoolmate and we were talking about the "good ol' days" (which is like 12 yrs ago) and he mentioned that he loved to play with Luna Vachon in wwf raw for snes, because for some reason he always got the secret move.

May God look after her 2 sons and take comfort in the fact that she is now looking down upon us all.

Furious Beardsley 08-28-2010 02:22 AM

RIP Luna

Always sad to see a former wrestler pass too soon, whether you liked them or not.

AfterShock8706 08-28-2010 02:45 AM

Damn this Sucks i just signed up today and my first post has gotta be on Luna Vachon Passing away that sucks i grew up watching Luna as the Main Squeeze of Bam Bam Bigelow and it sucks now b/c they are both gone but they will not be forgotten RIP LUNA and BAM BAM you will be missed

voncouch 08-28-2010 04:49 AM

Man, this one sucks. Luna was the first wrestler I ever met in person and got their autograph. I remember being so freaked out to meet her because of her persona, but being surprised at how sweet and gracious she was. I remember her having a cast at the time. My dad asked her, "What happened to your arm?" "Sensational Sherri, that's what happened to my arm!" A great worker and truly an original character.

I remember when I was younger thinking all those veins/arteries on her face were real. I was only 5/6 though.

What a shitty run of bad luck for her and her family... She genuinely scared me and was pretty decent in the ring... RIP...

From PWInsider:

TMZ.com acquired the police report from the Pasco County Sheriff's Office filed in regard to Luna Vachon's death.

In their report, TMZ noted:

*Authorities found a box containing Oxycodone in Luna's kitchen, described as being found near a pile of "blue, chalky debris next to a small straw."

*There were "multiple prescription bottles and miscellaneous unsecured pills" in a bedroom.

*Also found was another small plate that contained more pill residue and another snorting straw.

The official cause of death will be released when the toxicology results from Vachon's autopsy over the weekend are retreived.

Xero 10-13-2010 01:46 PM

From PWInsider:

TMZ.com is reporting that former WWF, WCW and ECW star Luna Vachon's death was an "accidental overdose" of anti-anxiety and painkillers.

Vachon passed away in August.

MoonlightDrifter 10-13-2010 01:58 PM
