Like TTT1 was an updated Tekken 3, this game looks like an update of Tekken 6. Partner can now trade hits within a juggle, which may be very gay or totally hype depending on your views.

Coming out in a timely manner, though.

Fignuts 09-18-2010 01:39 PM

Would be happy if they just added a tag feature to 6 as DLC. Will have to see how much gets added to see if it is worth it.

Funky Fly 09-18-2010 02:05 PM

Dunno, Tekken Tag just wasn't as fun as straight up Tekken 3 for me. I suppose it might be good if they keep shit like stage breaking and add a couple of people, seeing as it's not a main series game.

Kalyx triaD 09-18-2010 05:10 PM

TTT was pretty much me and my guy's favorite Tekken before T5 came out. Seriously fun.

Kalyx triaD 09-18-2010 05:28 PM

Quote:

As everyone knows… The previously announced Street Fighter X TEKKEN and TEKKEN X Street Fighter titles are part of an overall “Fighting Game Festival.” But, the first title in the “festival” is announced today (at TOUGEKI)… TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2. Tentatively scheduled for a Summer 2011 arcade release in Japan.

TEKKEN fans are in for a real treat as the order of releases for games will be:

TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2
Street Fighter X TEKKEN
TEKKEN X Street Fighter
Today’s teaser trailer is in-game footage, not CG. It might look similar to TEKKEN 6, but the graphics engine has been tweaked/improved to support up to 4 characters on screen at once. The character models were redone from TEKKEN 6 moving onward to TTT2.

TTT2 will follow the same control scheme as the original Tekken Tag Tournament: One stick for movement and 5 action buttons. As seen in the teaser, there will be tag combos involving both characters tagging in and out-in succession to complete multi-hit combos/juggles. Walled stages remain and breakable walls/floors are still in the game. New mechanics and stage features will also be implemented. As seen in the trailer, there are some possible unique attacks depending on the character teams that are chosen (Ex. Jin & Asuka).

Several characters are featured in the trailer, but the character lineup will not be announced for some time.

Kalyx triaD 09-18-2010 05:32 PM

Joystiq: How long have you been working on Tekken Tag Tournament 2?

Katsuhiro Harada: Actually there was some talk at first of doing this before Tekken 6 came out, but when we discussed it amongst ourselves and the team we felt like we first wanted to make a proper sequel to 6 to see how far we could push the limits of our graphics engine on that hardware before going to Tag.

As you've seen for yourself in the trailer, we have three or four characters on the screen at once so that's simply twice as much power needed than previously for example in Tekken 6. So obviously trying to do that right off the bat earlier on would be much more difficult.

If it's running on the same technology as 6, which came not only to arcades but to consoles, what are your console plans for Tag 2?

As we announced, it will see an arcade release first. That's where most of our efforts are focused on at the moment. But that being said, we do want to provide a chance for all of our fans abroad to be able to enjoy the game. That's about all I can say at this point.

The first Tekken Tag Tournament came out in 1999. Why did it take 12 years to go back to a tag-based fighter?

As I said on stage, it was pretty much the result of many years of the fans giving us feedback that they wanted tag. At first, for the development team when we started out we had [Tekken] 3 and we thought the natural progression would be to go to 4 and 5 and such as a proper roadmap. Tag came about, first of, as an idea that I had after about five minutes of thinking. We were all really quite surprised when that took off and gained the popularity that it did. So we had to rethink the roadmap again once more. After working on the proper sequels and still considering all the fan feedback and how much that has just gradually increased over the years and gotten to the point where we just really had to seriously consider it.

Tekken x Street Fighter was announced recently, and today you announced this. Both are high-profile games. How are you resourcing both of these projects? Are there multiple teams?

Actually, before Street Fighter x Tekken and that whole announcement came about, Tag 2 was already in the works, so that's something that we've already originally planned for. Really the question is now "so what do we want to do with Tekken x Street Fighter?" It's getting a lot more people, and assigning them and such, as well as making game ideas on where to take that.

What do you think about the recent resurgence of fighting games, with titles like BlazBlue, Street Fighter and such?

Well, this is something that I've said before continuously. The Tekken series, if you look at it alone, each installment in the console versions sell about five million copies lifetime, and has continued for about fifteen years now. Plus the income from the arcades haven't really dropped off at all for the Tekken series in general. From our standpoint, it's not like anything has really changed much. The one thing that is noticeable perhaps is that other series, like Street Fighter IV coming back after a blank of about ten years or so, Mortal Kombat is starting to come back. I think that's where some of the changes are occurring, rather than us. We've been rather constant. [BURN]

Now that you've settled from the excitement of the Tekken Tag Tournament 2 announcement, you might be wondering what to expect from the game. Harada let GamePro in on some information.

* This game will have the largest roster of any Tekken game yet.
* There will be a significant number of returning characters that didn't make the roster in Tekken 6 or Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion.
* Like Tekken Tag, this game exists as a side-story to the main Tekken plot.
* The developer is making some key tweaks to combat to improve on what Tekken 6 contributed to the fighting game genre. In particular, Harada told us to "watch out for" floating mechanics. [Ugh]

Kalyx triaD 09-27-2010 04:23 PM

Harada lays out what he calls the "Fighting Game Festival" (in order):

TTT2 (Arcade)
SFxTK (Console?)
TTT2 (Console)
TKxSF (Console?)

This books Harada's team for the next two/three years (rumors of a Tekken 7 were misunderstandings, TTT2 was the next Tekken game he meant). This also books Ono-san's team for two years.

So this 'festival' pushes back Darstalkers and Soulcalibur considerably. I can wait, we got good shit in the meantime.

Harada also confirms character customization will be in TKxSF.

Fignuts 09-27-2010 04:27 PM

Seriously. Between those games, SSFIV, BlazeBlue, MvC3, and SF III: 3rd Strike, there isn't going to be any time for Darkstalkers or Soul Calibur.

Funky Fly 09-27-2010 11:53 PM

Thought they said 4 was the last SoulCalibur.

Kalyx triaD 09-28-2010 01:40 AM

Not the way Harada's teasing.

Fignuts 10-05-2010 03:28 AM

Me and Funky got our tekken on tonight.(It wasn't dirty, I swear.)

Started out pretty awful, as neither of us played in over a year. My Devil Jin and Lee were still beastly. Funky's Eddie and Christie were good, and he was killing me with bruce until i busted out law.

Things started to come back to me by the last 4 or 5 matches, and I took them fairly easily. Though I'm sure once funky gets a little more practice we'll be even again.

Kalyx triaD 10-05-2010 03:30 AM

You guys have Tekken? wtf

Fignuts 10-05-2010 03:36 AM

You know this. You tried to invite me once.

Funky Fly 10-05-2010 03:37 AM

Nigga I have all fighting games. I even have VF5, even though I hate the shit.

Fignuts 10-05-2010 03:40 AM

My Fighting game list

360:
SSFIV
Tekken 6
DOA 4

Live:
SSFIITHDR
Guilty Gear
King of Fighters 98
Neo Geo Battle Colesseum
MvC2

PS3:
SSFIV
Soul Calibur 4
Virtua Fighter 5

Funky Fly 10-05-2010 03:48 AM

I got this shit:

360:
BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger (Continuum Shift coming soon)
SF4
SSF4
Tekken 6
DOA4
VF5 Online (hate this shit)
MK vs DC (lol)
SoulCalibur 4
KoF12
BattleFantasia (yeah, that's right)

XBLA:
Garou: Mark of the Wolves
KoF98UM
NeoGeo Battle Colosseum
SF2'
SSF2THDR
MvC2
Deadliest Warrior

Yeah. Too bad once they up the friend list limit to over 100, all original xbox titles will no longer be live enabled or I'd shell out for YET ANOTHER copy of Guilty Gear XX (I have 2 rn).

Fignuts 10-05-2010 03:51 AM

lol deadliest warrior?

Kalyx triaD 10-05-2010 06:16 AM

And I only played you guys in like... two fighters?

We have a communication problem.

Funky Fly 10-05-2010 07:05 AM

I have mentioned numerous times that I have multiple games. Eat me.

Fignuts 10-05-2010 12:24 PM

I have as well.

YOU NEVER LISTEN TO ME! *SOB*

Kalyx triaD 10-05-2010 08:57 PM

Didn't think you guys had DOA4. I should snatch that from a bargin rack.

Fignuts 10-11-2010 08:14 PM

Yo Funkmeister Flex. Let's get this shit on again tonight.

Funky Fly 10-11-2010 09:25 PM

Gonna have to put that down as a maybe right now. Gonna go grab some food from 7-11, since I had Thanksgiving dinner yesterday but the holiday is today (in Canada) and my place is empty. Then I got laundry to deal with.

Def gonna try and finish Mass Effect again tonight, so yeah we will see.

Kalyx triaD 10-15-2010 10:48 AM

When Lili is mentioned on Harada's Twitter, he mentions Street Fighter Alpha's Karin. Both similar characters, and a highly random name drop. Harada is a bit more straight forward than Ono and doesn't tease as much. And a Twitter account posting as Sakura asked Harada if she can be in the game, and Harada said she had to fight Poison and Karin first for a position. Harada's dropped Poison's name a few times this week, and appears as weirded out by her gender controversy as we are.

Fignuts 10-18-2010 11:15 PM

Why do you even bother kalyx?

Kalyx triaD 10-18-2010 11:27 PM

idk

Kalyx triaD 10-31-2010 03:01 PM

The roster will not shrink from Bloodline Rebellion, will instead get larger (which is wild).

While Harada's team can now put four character's on screen at a high resolution and 60fps sustained, he's not sure what to do with this feat yet.

Funky Fly 10-31-2010 03:55 PM

I'll tell him what to do. Make a proper 4 player Tekken Force mode.

Kalyx triaD 10-31-2010 07:40 PM

That would be kung-fu-rific.

Young Heihachi and a luchadora? Erection achieved.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-25-2010 05:54 AM

Lucha in a fighting game? Never thought I'd see the day!

Funky Fly 12-25-2010 06:23 AM

DOA4 did it before VF5 and KoF before even DOA, so don't even start. I'm just appreciative that despite having 30+characters with surprisingly little spillover, they still have new styles coming in.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-25-2010 06:34 AM

I know, it just seems the biggest cliché right now and a little bored of it. Wish they'd (and by that, I mean all the fighting game companies bar the BlazBlue guys) just get a bit more creative.

Funky Fly 12-25-2010 07:01 AM

Tekken is loosely grounded in real styles, so it's slim pickings from here on out.

DOA on the 3DS is likely to be limited and probably feature maybe 1 new character. Dunno if it's officially DOA 6, but I don't see a whole lot from these guys in the near future.

Thus far, I'm impressed with Street Fighter's new additions. Very different.

Not been too impressed with the last 2 KoF games. Hopefully 13's got some juice.

MK is MK. We will see, but I'm not holding my breath.

BlazBlue is win.

MvC3 looks like win. Everyone who's played it says it's win. I'm preordering the LE.

No more new SoulCaliburs right? :'(

Just not a fan of VF. :( Dunno why I even have VF5 Online.

The Tekken/SF crossovers have me jizzing in my pants.

Would kill for and SNK/Capcome 3 and Capcom/SNK3.

Kalyx triaD 12-25-2010 10:25 AM

Good thing Tekken will do it better than the others. WOOOOO

Especially with Itagaki out. Perhaps some kind of revamp is in order?

Had more fun lately with 2002UM than SSF4, but the online portion sucks and there's no color edit. :(

I think this is also a matter of time, but I believe Capcom should buy SNK or at least their fighting suites and get it over with. 2.5D CvS3 with an updated roster, new models, and a central fighting system (no need for multiple bars :shifty:) and I'd buy it for 80$.

Funky Fly 12-25-2010 06:44 PM

Was talking about KoF XI and XII. 2002UM is sweet.

Kalyx triaD 01-03-2011 12:25 PM

When asked about doing a Jiu Jitsu fighter, Harada explained that they looked into it, but making a fighter like that would not be easy.

Funky Fly 01-04-2011 11:47 PM

Jiu Jitsu wouldn't work too well in Tekken because it would be 10% stand up and takedown moves and 90% linking moves on the ground.

Kalyx triaD 01-04-2011 11:51 PM

Not really flashy. I'd love a full drunken style character. Lots of fun with that with Lei.

Fignuts 01-05-2011 12:03 AM

The jiu jitsu character would just sit on his opponent's face for the whole round.

Funky Fly 01-05-2011 12:05 AM

It's incredibly effective, but not flashy at all. Most flashy styles use flash to hide holes in the style.

Zafina's whatever the fuck she uses reminds me of drunken boxing in places.

Kalyx triaD 01-05-2011 12:05 AM

In a way Murdock kinda covers that already.

Kalyx triaD 01-05-2011 12:06 AM

Not a fan of Zafina's style. Lover her design (sexy desi), but her animations are stupid and totally unattractive. Effective in the game, I guess.

Fignuts 01-05-2011 12:07 AM

loooooooooooove zafina. Actually mained her 3,000 years ago when I still played tekken 6.

Fignuts 01-05-2011 12:08 AM

I actually like her because her animations are not typical sexy fighting game lady animations. They are creepy and weird.

Well his Vale Tudo style is basically MMA. If we're talking pure Jiu Jitsu, a character like that would spend more time on the ground than anything else. The only alternative I see is another character with borrowed moves. I'm thinking a fusion of Bruce, Marduk, Steve and Dragunov with some new shit mixed in.

I hope they're bringing the character customization into this one too, and I Hope it's better than the last one. I want to have alternates, not just two costumes that are stuck with whatever I do to them.

Kalyx triaD 02-09-2011 03:02 PM

Famitsu actually got a few new bits of info about the game in its latest issue. The magazine details a "Stage Gimmick" system where you'll be able to send your opponent flying though walls, moving the fight to another area of the battle field. This can apparently lead to tag-based combo opportunities, as when your opponent lands, your partner character will be waiting.

TTT2 will also have an item system, something we've come to expect given past Tekken series developments. You'll be able to dress your character up with items. Some of these can be used for attacks. Famitsu mentions a baseball bat and an item called "hammer head" which looks like a hat with a hammer head sticking out of it.

Kalyx triaD 05-09-2011 11:52 PM

Quote:

• TTT2′s Character roster is still pegged at 44 (biggest roster yet in Tekken).

• Jun Kazama is mentioned, and once again Harada clarifies that officially Jun was never considered ‘dead’, but ‘missing’.

• Tekken Tag 2′s graphic quality is much better than that of Tekken 6. Improvements include more detail in facial expressions, musculature in character models, shader effects and other extensive treatments (talk about Extreme Makeover!). In terms of polygons used, TTT2 uses 1.5 more than T6 did.

• The version shown in the Taipei Expo is not the latest version (maybe the AOU build) and has some slowdown. The final version will have no slowdown in play.

• The game is about 70-75% complete, but development was delayed due to the recent earthquake.

• Harada reveals that the game may have an Autumn 2011 (October) release for areas outside Japan.

• TTT2′s story is, once again with feeling, non-canon.

• Harada still won’t speak about a console version since the arcade game isn’t out yet, but a home translation is something to look forward to afterwards.

• Progress on SF x Tekken is (to Harada’s estimation) 50%, while Tekken X SF is at 0%(!) since the Tekken devs are concentrating on TTT2.

Fignuts 05-10-2011 02:34 PM

- Tekken Tag Tournament 2
- Tekken Hybrid (Tekken Blood Revenge movie + Tekken Tag Tournament 1 HD)
- Tekken WiiU
- Tekken 3DS
- Street Fighter x Tekken (Capcom)
- Tekken x Street Fighter (Namco)

And there may be another title...

In an absolute none shocker, lucha lady Jaycee is confirmed to be Julia Chang with a new moveset. Julia used many professional wrestling moves even though she was never a grapple character. Wonder if classic Julia will be in the game, or perhaps her mother will appear with her old moveset.

New update "Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Unlimited" adds 1v1, 1v2 options on top of 2v2. Most likely a rebalance in there for good measure. Most likely the version to head to consoles like Bloodline Rebellion.

- Team options adjust HP, Attack, and Rage settings for a single character against a team of two.
- No adjustments needed for 1v1, essentially Tekken 6.5 going that way.
- Pair Play mode for arcades, 4 plyrs connected. Fairly obvious feature for console release.
- Balance adjustments for several characters as expected. Very buff friendly.

Definitely stoked.

Quote:

Building upon Tekken Unlimited, the console version of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will also feature new modes such as 1-on-1, 2-on-1, and 2-on-2 matches. With regard to that last one, in Pair Play mode, each of the four characters is controlled by a different player, making for four players in total at the same time. The four characters battle at once in different planes.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 for consoles also has a “Fight Lab” mode for novice and advanced players, which beginners can use to learn the game and advanced players can play against customized bots for various challenges.
There will also be more characters added, which is insane.

Really hope this game has something closer to SCV, as far as earning customization parts goes.

Earning gold took way too long in tekken 6. Never mind the fact that the quickest way to earn it was a horrible, tacked on beat em up mode.

And fuck having to buy the same outfit in different colors. Give me one, and use a god damn slider.

#BROKEN Hasney 04-12-2012 04:27 AM

The beat-em-up mode was the only thing I liked about Tekken 6.
