Like TTT1 was an updated Tekken 3, this game looks like an update of Tekken 6. Partner can now trade hits within a juggle, which may be very gay or totally hype depending on your views. Coming out in a timely manner, though. |
Would be happy if they just added a tag feature to 6 as DLC. Will have to see how much gets added to see if it is worth it.
Dunno, Tekken Tag just wasn't as fun as straight up Tekken 3 for me. I suppose it might be good if they keep shit like stage breaking and add a couple of people, seeing as it's not a main series game.
TTT was pretty much me and my guy's favorite Tekken before T5 came out. Seriously fun.

Joystiq: How long have you been working on Tekken Tag Tournament 2?
Katsuhiro Harada: Actually there was some talk at first of doing this before Tekken 6 came out, but when we discussed it amongst ourselves and the team we felt like we first wanted to make a proper sequel to 6 to see how far we could push the limits of our graphics engine on that hardware before going to Tag. As you've seen for yourself in the trailer, we have three or four characters on the screen at once so that's simply twice as much power needed than previously for example in Tekken 6. So obviously trying to do that right off the bat earlier on would be much more difficult. If it's running on the same technology as 6, which came not only to arcades but to consoles, what are your console plans for Tag 2? As we announced, it will see an arcade release first. That's where most of our efforts are focused on at the moment. But that being said, we do want to provide a chance for all of our fans abroad to be able to enjoy the game. That's about all I can say at this point. The first Tekken Tag Tournament came out in 1999. Why did it take 12 years to go back to a tag-based fighter? As I said on stage, it was pretty much the result of many years of the fans giving us feedback that they wanted tag. At first, for the development team when we started out we had [Tekken] 3 and we thought the natural progression would be to go to 4 and 5 and such as a proper roadmap. Tag came about, first of, as an idea that I had after about five minutes of thinking. We were all really quite surprised when that took off and gained the popularity that it did. So we had to rethink the roadmap again once more. After working on the proper sequels and still considering all the fan feedback and how much that has just gradually increased over the years and gotten to the point where we just really had to seriously consider it. Tekken x Street Fighter was announced recently, and today you announced this. Both are high-profile games. How are you resourcing both of these projects? Are there multiple teams? Actually, before Street Fighter x Tekken and that whole announcement came about, Tag 2 was already in the works, so that's something that we've already originally planned for. Really the question is now "so what do we want to do with Tekken x Street Fighter?" It's getting a lot more people, and assigning them and such, as well as making game ideas on where to take that. What do you think about the recent resurgence of fighting games, with titles like BlazBlue, Street Fighter and such? Well, this is something that I've said before continuously. The Tekken series, if you look at it alone, each installment in the console versions sell about five million copies lifetime, and has continued for about fifteen years now. Plus the income from the arcades haven't really dropped off at all for the Tekken series in general. From our standpoint, it's not like anything has really changed much. The one thing that is noticeable perhaps is that other series, like Street Fighter IV coming back after a blank of about ten years or so, Mortal Kombat is starting to come back. I think that's where some of the changes are occurring, rather than us. We've been rather constant. [BURN] |

Harada lays out what he calls the "Fighting Game Festival" (in order):
TTT2 (Arcade) SFxTK (Console?) TTT2 (Console) TKxSF (Console?) This books Harada's team for the next two/three years (rumors of a Tekken 7 were misunderstandings, TTT2 was the next Tekken game he meant). This also books Ono-san's team for two years. So this 'festival' pushes back Darstalkers and Soulcalibur considerably. I can wait, we got good shit in the meantime. Harada also confirms character customization will be in TKxSF. |
Seriously. Between those games, SSFIV, BlazeBlue, MvC3, and SF III: 3rd Strike, there isn't going to be any time for Darkstalkers or Soul Calibur.
Thought they said 4 was the last SoulCalibur.
Not the way Harada's teasing.
Me and Funky got our tekken on tonight.(It wasn't dirty, I swear.)
Started out pretty awful, as neither of us played in over a year. My Devil Jin and Lee were still beastly. Funky's Eddie and Christie were good, and he was killing me with bruce until i busted out law. Things started to come back to me by the last 4 or 5 matches, and I took them fairly easily. Though I'm sure once funky gets a little more practice we'll be even again. |
You guys have Tekken? wtf
You know this. You tried to invite me once.
Nigga I have all fighting games. I even have VF5, even though I hate the shit.
My Fighting game list
360: SSFIV Tekken 6 DOA 4 Live: SSFIITHDR Guilty Gear King of Fighters 98 Neo Geo Battle Colesseum MvC2 PS3: SSFIV Soul Calibur 4 Virtua Fighter 5 |
I got this shit:
360: BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger (Continuum Shift coming soon) SF4 SSF4 Tekken 6 DOA4 VF5 Online (hate this shit) MK vs DC (lol) SoulCalibur 4 KoF12 BattleFantasia (yeah, that's right) XBLA: Garou: Mark of the Wolves KoF98UM NeoGeo Battle Colosseum SF2' SSF2THDR MvC2 Deadliest Warrior Yeah. Too bad once they up the friend list limit to over 100, all original xbox titles will no longer be live enabled or I'd shell out for YET ANOTHER copy of Guilty Gear XX (I have 2 rn). |
lol deadliest warrior?
And I only played you guys in like... two fighters?
We have a communication problem. |
I have mentioned numerous times that I have multiple games. Eat me.
I have as well.
YOU NEVER LISTEN TO ME! *SOB* |
Didn't think you guys had DOA4. I should snatch that from a bargin rack.
Yo Funkmeister Flex. Let's get this shit on again tonight.
Gonna have to put that down as a maybe right now. Gonna go grab some food from 7-11, since I had Thanksgiving dinner yesterday but the holiday is today (in Canada) and my place is empty. Then I got laundry to deal with.
Def gonna try and finish Mass Effect again tonight, so yeah we will see. |
When Lili is mentioned on Harada's Twitter, he mentions Street Fighter Alpha's Karin. Both similar characters, and a highly random name drop. Harada is a bit more straight forward than Ono and doesn't tease as much. And a Twitter account posting as Sakura asked Harada if she can be in the game, and Harada said she had to fight Poison and Karin first for a position. Harada's dropped Poison's name a few times this week, and appears as weirded out by her gender controversy as we are.
doesn't show up
Why do you even bother kalyx?
idk
The roster will not shrink from Bloodline Rebellion, will instead get larger (which is wild).
While Harada's team can now put four character's on screen at a high resolution and 60fps sustained, he's not sure what to do with this feat yet. |
I'll tell him what to do. Make a proper 4 player Tekken Force mode.
That would be kung-fu-rific.

Looks fun. Four player mode will be dope. |
Was that an F5 into a sitout powerbomb? Fuckin' sick tags in this.
Some Dude: How will jin and devil jin tag in with each other? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ANSWER ME!
Harada: Separate char. U can tag Jin & Devil Jin. |

Young Heihachi and a luchadora? Erection achieved.
Lucha in a fighting game? Never thought I'd see the day!
DOA4 did it before VF5 and KoF before even DOA, so don't even start. I'm just appreciative that despite having 30+characters with surprisingly little spillover, they still have new styles coming in.
I know, it just seems the biggest cliché right now and a little bored of it. Wish they'd (and by that, I mean all the fighting game companies bar the BlazBlue guys) just get a bit more creative.
Tekken is loosely grounded in real styles, so it's slim pickings from here on out.
DOA on the 3DS is likely to be limited and probably feature maybe 1 new character. Dunno if it's officially DOA 6, but I don't see a whole lot from these guys in the near future. Thus far, I'm impressed with Street Fighter's new additions. Very different. Not been too impressed with the last 2 KoF games. Hopefully 13's got some juice. MK is MK. We will see, but I'm not holding my breath. BlazBlue is win. MvC3 looks like win. Everyone who's played it says it's win. I'm preordering the LE. No more new SoulCaliburs right? :'( Just not a fan of VF. :( Dunno why I even have VF5 Online. The Tekken/SF crossovers have me jizzing in my pants. Would kill for and SNK/Capcome 3 and Capcom/SNK3. |
Good thing Tekken will do it better than the others. WOOOOO

Was talking about KoF XI and XII. 2002UM is sweet.

When asked about doing a Jiu Jitsu fighter, Harada explained that they looked into it, but making a fighter like that would not be easy.
Jiu Jitsu wouldn't work too well in Tekken because it would be 10% stand up and takedown moves and 90% linking moves on the ground.
Not really flashy. I'd love a full drunken style character. Lots of fun with that with Lei.
The jiu jitsu character would just sit on his opponent's face for the whole round.
It's incredibly effective, but not flashy at all. Most flashy styles use flash to hide holes in the style.
Zafina's whatever the fuck she uses reminds me of drunken boxing in places. |
In a way Murdock kinda covers that already.
Not a fan of Zafina's style. Lover her design (sexy desi), but her animations are stupid and totally unattractive. Effective in the game, I guess.
loooooooooooove zafina. Actually mained her 3,000 years ago when I still played tekken 6.
I actually like her because her animations are not typical sexy fighting game lady animations. They are creepy and weird.

omg that win pose where she spider walks towards the camera, and there are little spider walking sounds?
She'd work in SoulCalibur.
I hope they're bringing the character customization into this one too, and I Hope it's better than the last one. I want to have alternates, not just two costumes that are stuck with whatever I do to them.

The only thing I'm getting from that is the 2011 at the bottom there. It's out this year then?
Wikipedia says summer 2011 for arcades in Japan
That's an upcoming Japanese game event. Lots of news and such, almost like E3.
How about you say that when you post the pic for people who don't read moon speak?
I see.

Devil Kazuya confirmed, but he seems to be a transformation that's contingent on Devil Jin being Kazuya's partner:

She looks great! Don't know if I'll use her again after all this time. Her pants keep it real. |

Arcade location tests. This is good, because with the arcade release out of the way a console follows. |

Good to hear about the visuals. Tekken 6 was pretty underwhelming in that respect.

Harada outlined the numerous Tekken releases (not in order):
- Tekken Tag Tournament 2 - Tekken Hybrid (Tekken Blood Revenge movie + Tekken Tag Tournament 1 HD) - Tekken WiiU - Tekken 3DS - Street Fighter x Tekken (Capcom) - Tekken x Street Fighter (Namco) And there may be another title... |

In an absolute none shocker, lucha lady Jaycee is confirmed to be Julia Chang with a new moveset. Julia used many professional wrestling moves even though she was never a grapple character. Wonder if classic Julia will be in the game, or perhaps her mother will appear with her old moveset.

New update "Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Unlimited" adds 1v1, 1v2 options on top of 2v2. Most likely a rebalance in there for good measure. Most likely the version to head to consoles like Bloodline Rebellion.
http://media.eventhubs.com/images/20...limated201.jpg |
- Team options adjust HP, Attack, and Rage settings for a single character against a team of two.
- No adjustments needed for 1v1, essentially Tekken 6.5 going that way. - Pair Play mode for arcades, 4 plyrs connected. Fairly obvious feature for console release. - Balance adjustments for several characters as expected. Very buff friendly. |
Definitely stoked.

Playable Characters
The idea of more characters on top of that is Vs Fighter territory. Pretty crazy. |
Really hope this game has something closer to SCV, as far as earning customization parts goes.
Earning gold took way too long in tekken 6. Never mind the fact that the quickest way to earn it was a horrible, tacked on beat em up mode. And fuck having to buy the same outfit in different colors. Give me one, and use a god damn slider. |
The beat-em-up mode was the only thing I liked about Tekken 6.
