Smackdown Spoilers for 9/24/10

* Kane defeats Chris Masters in a non-title match for the opener. Kane wins the match after a Tombstone. Actually a good match. Kane cut a promo on Undertaker after the match and has a challenge for Taker tonight that he can’t refuse.

* Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre beat The Hart Dynasty in a non-title match. McIntyre gets the win with the Futureshock DDT on Tyson Kidd.

* Undertaker sat in the back.

* Backstage with CM Punk and Luke Gallows as Gallows takes out Punk. Punk vs. Gallows is announced for later tonight.

* Alberto Del Rio attacks Christian backstage and injures his shoulder.

* Chavo Guerrero beats Kaval with the Frogsplash. Very good match, not sure how it will play out on TV but it was the best of the night so far.

* Alberto Del Rio comes out and replays his attack on Rey Mysterio. Mysterio will return to SmackDown next week for a match with Del Rio. Christian comes out but Del Rio ends up making him tap out. Del Rio further injures Christian’s arm on the ring post.

* Big Show beat Curt Hawkins and Vance Archer in a squash.

* Backstage interview with Jack Swagger. Hornswoggle and Croft/Baretta stole his jersey and put it in a moving box for SyFy.

* They showed Undertaker in the back looking forlorn.

* New WWE NXT announcer CM Punk pinned Luke Gallows with the GTS.

* MVP defeats Dolph Ziggler by count out in a non-title match. Kaitlyn and Vickie came out with Ziggler and ended up fighting at ringside. Vickie and Kaitlyn leave and Dolph leaves the ring himself to be counted out.

* Kane comes out to cut a promo on Undertaker. He says the fun has just started and he wants a match at Hell in a Cell. Druids bring a casket to ringside. Kane opens it up and Paul Bearer sits up. The lights go out and when they come on Taker is in the ring. They brawl and Taker gets the upperhand. Kane leaves and Taker kneels to Bearer to end the show.

FUCK YES PAUL BEARER!!!

Ruien 09-21-2010 11:47 PM

That's because you're the RAW GM so you have more pull than most. Now if you were to bring Blackman back...

Well it's only his 2nd match on SD but that's still no damn excuse.

Also, PAUL BEARER! PAUL BEARER! PAUL BEARER!

I thought he was 0-3 now? I know McIntyre beat him last week, but I feel there was 1 more loss.

GOD FUCKING LOVE THIS PAUL BEARER, IT'S PAUL BEARER, PAUL BEARER

They should have wheeled Bearer out in a huge block of concrete and had him bust out of it somehow

lol, Shockmaster style.

Damian Rey 09-22-2010 12:25 AM

Lots of matches this week it seems like. Gallows turning on Punk? Interesting how this will play out in terms of who is face and who is heel.

Paul Bearer coming back is fucking awesome.

And can we all sit back a bit before bitching about Kaval losing? He's getting his first run in WWE, the big leagues so to speak. As long as he's looking credible during his matches, Kaval losing a bit isn't going to hurt him in the long run. He's not getting squashed and that's important.

Mr. Nerfect 09-22-2010 06:01 AM

Pretty glad Paul Bearer is back for the feud, to be honest. It just completes it all.

Chavo beating Kaval doesn't bother me, because Chavo actually wrestling makes me happy. What they are doing with Kaval is showing his growth. He is over, he will get more over for his kicks and shit, and his fanbase won't be dependent on him winning all the time. Kaval is not being buried, and I am glad the WWE is actually letting him work. Place your bets on who gets to use the rolling Liger kick in this match. I'm going with Kaval's short-arm version.

I feel it is too early for Rey Mysterio's return to SmackDown!. I will be disappointed if "Rey Mysterio's return" does not lead to Del Rio putting a chihuahua in a cross-armbreaker next week.

The Dudebusters on SmackDown! doing anything is win. They have these pretty entertaining characters to them, and getting to utilise them will only be good for both men.

MVP is obviously going to be Dolph Ziggler's next challenger for the Intercontinental Title. That could be awesome. Ziggler and Kofi are both guys that have pretty much amazing matches with anybody, but I just couldn't get into them working with each other. Hopefully Ziggler vs. MVP is a step up.

I would have preferred it if Hawkins & Archer beat Show, so that they could look like an actual threat for the tag team division. Whatever.

Luke Gallows vs. CM Punk will be...interesting. Although Punk is likely going to be the heel, I like the way he has embraced more of an "entertaining heel" persona. I'm actually considering watching NXT just to hear him do commentary.

I like that Chris Masters actually gets to work with Kane. Masters has really grown as a performer, and I actually like him a fair bit. It'd be good to see him find an actual program soon. The right man definitely went over between him and Kane, though.

I don't understand why The Hart Dynasty are on SmackDown!. There was another unexplained inter-brand match on Superstars, too. Perhaps there was a trade I am unaware of?

The Jayman 09-22-2010 08:34 AM

I know I have already read the spoilers but I know I will mark the fuck out when I see Paul Bearer on my tv.

Volare 09-22-2010 10:12 AM

Man, now I wish I didn't read the spoilers, seeing Paul Bearer return out of nowhere would've made me flip the fuck out.

bigslimjj 09-22-2010 10:15 AM

Paul Bearer? Really? Jesus.

Razzamajazz 09-22-2010 10:19 AM

isn't paul bearer skinny now? this would just sem weird with a skinny bearer and maskless kane.

and since when are gallows and punk feuding, did i miss something?

VSG 09-22-2010 10:32 AM

Who cares how skinny he is? If he comes out to that ghastly white face and that hideous voice of his, I swear I might just cry.

Next Big Thing 09-22-2010 11:29 AM

I wish I was in the live crowd when Paul Bearer popped out of that casket...

I'm kind of worried though... I'm starting to get the feeling this might be Taker's last year and they're bringing back some old school things to take the character full circle before he retires at Wrestlemania...

Volare 09-22-2010 11:31 AM

The crazy part is if somehow he actually sides with Kane at HIAC. (But it probably won't happen.)

Schlomey 09-22-2010 11:56 AM

I can't wait to see Bearer. Marking out like a 10 year old!

VSG 09-22-2010 12:17 PM

They should have kept Paul Bearer till the Live Smackdown on Oct 1.

Volare 09-22-2010 12:33 PM

That definitely would've added more "shock value" to the whole storyline.

Wolfpack423 09-22-2010 02:07 PM

Paul Bearer shouldn't even be part of the storyline since he's dead according to WWE storylines, but whatever. He should side with Kane as Taker is the reason he was buried in the concrete crypt to begin with.

Wolfpack423 09-22-2010 02:08 PM

Paul Bearer shouldn't even be part of the storyline since he's dead according to WWE storylines, but whatever. He should side with Kane as Taker is the reason he was buried in the concrete crypt to begin with and Kane is supposed to be Paul Bearer's son.

Volare 09-22-2010 03:33 PM

Wow...back to back posts.....about the same thing....heh

But back on topic, he was never fucking dead, multiple people have said time and time again on here that WWE ran a story saying how he wasn't dead and he was pulled out of the cement from the GAB ppv.

Ermaximus 09-22-2010 03:39 PM

Those damn Dudleys and their trying to kill Paul Bearer.

Volare 09-22-2010 03:42 PM

Sadly wasn't a great match either.

Emperor Smeat 09-22-2010 04:45 PM

Sounds like a good show especially the ending.

DAMN iNATOR 09-23-2010 02:29 PM

":eek::eek:/:love::love::love:" major mark-out moment for Paul Bearer...hope he's able to stick around for a bit, at least until this little program/feud is over between Kane and 'Taker.

That was one of the few things I actually loved, besides the druids about their WM XX encounter was hearing the (somewhat) high pitched wail of "OOOOOOOHHHHHHH YEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!..." from PB before Undertaker made his way on-stage...fucking epic. Too bad the match itself was so horrendous.

Volare 09-24-2010 03:05 PM

Just saw the Bearer return segment, that was pretty fucking sweet. Paul still looks great, and when Taker did the classic pose with the ern, I actually marked a little bit.

Xero 09-24-2010 03:43 PM

7 mins in for Bearer.

Either he's gained weight or he's in a fat suit.

VSG 09-24-2010 03:53 PM

Striker and Grisham did the best thing possible and kept quiet most of the time. I sorely missed the ecstatic JR voice there.

Xero 09-24-2010 03:54 PM

JR: My god... is that.... *Bearer sits up* IT'S PAUL BEARER! BAH GAWD IT'S PAUL BEARER!

Xero 09-24-2010 03:56 PM

The crowd does bother me, though. If this were just a few years ago that crowd would be going apeshit during the beat down. They go completely silent at one point.

VSG 09-24-2010 03:59 PM

JR: A sudden chill is all around us, ladies and gentlemen, as the blue smoke permeates the entire ringside. Kane seems perturbed by it though, which should nothing else than worrying for us.

Lawler: Look, JR- The druids or whatever those creatures are have left the ringside leaving behind that casket. Kane seems to be in two minds about approaching it.

JR: Anyone in their right mind would walk the other way, King, but Kane is a monster that has lost his mind. Is the Undertaker in the casket, like he was at Summerslam? Kane has opened that casket and.. MY GOD, King, is that.. is that?? IT IS! MY GOD IT IS PAUL BEARER! PAUL BEARER! PAUL BEARER! He has that urn as well. We last saw him 4 years ago and who knows why.. Oh dear lord the lights have gone off. The gong! Undertaker's Gong! The lights are bac.. Undertaker is in the ring. So is Paul Bearer! Oh the humanity!

Xero 09-24-2010 04:02 PM

I could do without the music but Kane's over produced promos are growing on me.

VSG 09-24-2010 04:05 PM

My only issue was the videos on the tron while he spoke. And then WWE showed the same videos a 100 times over the next few days.

They could explain his return and his weight quite easily. He ate the concrete.

Volare 09-24-2010 04:19 PM

If they would've saved this for the live show, think how crazy it really would've been.

VSG 09-24-2010 04:21 PM

Only for us who read the spoilers before hand, so it wouldn't have mattered much in the bigger scheme of things.

Yeah, pretty ridiculous that they didn't wait, but I suppose they did it so they could follow up on it before the PPV.

Which could have easily been done ON the PPV in a promo and just ended this week's SmackDown! with what they did with Taker. Go black with Taker's eyes rolled up into his head then do the Kane promo next week.

VSG 09-24-2010 04:24 PM

Who's to say they don't have something big planned out for the live smackdown as it is? Wait till it's over before lamenting.

Xero 09-24-2010 04:27 PM

I don't know what they could possibly do that's bigger than Paul Bearer's return. A promo with Bearer, maybe have a brawl in the Cell to preview the PPV? Doesn't really live up to it "IMO".

VSG 09-24-2010 04:30 PM

Oh I don't know, maybe getting back some members of the fucking Ministry of Darkness?? Like I said, there are possibilities (although most of them won't ever happen)

Or, some how (but by only an act of god) create a new one, then WWE can push more younger stars.

Ultra Mantis 09-24-2010 06:59 PM

Cody Rhodes has a fourth version of his ring jacket already and they've all been pretty awesome. Kaval vs Chavo stole the show, which wasn't exactly hard on this episode, but still, it was a good match. Tag title match and Ziggler/MVP were also pretty good.

Hawkins and Archer got totally buried, both in the ring and on commentary. Luke Gallows is another guy who is up in the air, don't know where he can possibly go from here (other than jobbing on Superstars).

On the plus side the Dudebusters seem to be finally getting some screen time and might actually get a small face push. Christian also went out strong considering he was in an injury angle, hopefully they remember how over he was when he comes back.

I marked for Bearer :D

The Jayman 09-24-2010 09:26 PM

Damn I just marked like a 15 year old for Bearer

Xero 09-24-2010 09:31 PM

I read that as "Damn I just marked like a 15 year old Bieber".

:-\

The Jayman 09-24-2010 09:44 PM

that too

Mr. Nerfect 09-25-2010 02:17 AM

Perhaps they should move Luke Gallows, Hawkins, JTG & Archer to RAW? They're not really doing much on SmackDown! at the moment, and they might be able to get renewed pushes on RAW. Hawkins & Archer with Edge & Ryder as a new version of The Rated-R Entourage, perhaps? Gallows can just be a big face who helps protect a little guy and forms a tag team, and JTG can be himself and do some comedy segments to remind people that they're meant to be behind him. Trade them for Primo, William Regal, Goldust & Yoshi Tatsu. They could actually wrestle on SmackDown!, and as far as WWE gimmicks go, someone like Goldust might be good for SyFy.

This is a bit of a weird thought, as I don't really see too many guys coming into this feud (like some have mentioned, The Ministry of Darkness, for example), with The Dudley Boyz being free agents, they at least have a connection to Paul Bearer. What if Kane brought them in as followers to try and take out The Undertaker?

XL 09-25-2010 08:24 AM

I watched the show without reading spoilers (as I have been trying to do recently) and the Bearer thing was cool. There was a lot of talk about him in other threads but I thought that was just wishful thinking.

I can't recommend staying away from spoilers enough.

XL 09-25-2010 08:28 AM

Also, I really dislike what they're doing with Big Show at the minute. Aside from the "Happy, Go-Lucky Giant" gimmick (which sucks) I can't see the benefit of repeatedly purring him over multiple guys (SES, now Archer & Hawkins).

What did that match achieve? Has it gt Big Show into a new fued? No. All it's done is make a mockery out of a tag team that could be doing well in the already shallow tag dvision. I only hope they have Hawkins & Archer attack Big Show backstage next week but again, what does that achieve? Who wants to see a fued between Hawkins/Archer and the Big Show when we've already seen him dispatch them with ease?

Either he's gained weight or he's in a fat suit.

Didn't he have gastric bypass surgery or something? I think WWE paid for it in return for him coming back for that stint after Wrestlemania XX.

Lock Jaw 09-25-2010 04:13 PM

I gotta say, I'm a huge fan of Kane's overproduced promos. With anyone else they'd be cheesy as hell, but with Kane it works and I love it. Makes me hang on to every word he says.

DaVe 09-25-2010 09:29 PM

yep, it's cool seeing others like Xero warming up to it. the production levels work so well for such a deranged character as Kane.

TGR 09-25-2010 10:41 PM

Yeah, Kane is one of the most convincing psychopath characters in the wrestling world, and has been for several years now. It's great to see him able to do it more - he's such a great talker when they let him on the mic.

I agree. I liked the insight Matt Striker originally added to Hawkins when he first returned, bringing up that he trained with him when they were getting their starts. That has since gone wayside. But yeah, as a big Curt Hawkins fan, I feel he is being wasted right now. Show's dominating wins make sense, but I still don't feel that they are completely productive. I guess if Show is moving merchandise there is somewhat of a point to them.

But I thought the exact same thing as you did. Next week, I'd love it if they attacked Big Show backstage with steel chairs and wrote him off for a few weeks. Just a way for them to get some heat. They are all about "making an impact," after all. I wouldn't mind seeing them aligned with Dolph Ziggler, Vickie Guerrero & LayCool, either.
