The office new season started last night.

I fear its the last season though. With steve Carrell leaving i dont know if the supporting actors/actresses will be enough. Did anyone catch last night s episode..i dont want to post spoilers (not sure how to hide them yet). Ill just say i dont think the show was as funny as it has been and the opening was just weird.

Schlomey 09-24-2010 03:50 PM

i had no idea it started last night.....I guess I should watch it as it is one of my favorite shows.

Juan 09-24-2010 03:55 PM

I loved it.

Funky Fly 09-24-2010 04:02 PM

This is how you hide spoilers. quote to learn.

SPOILER: show
poop

Lock Jaw 09-24-2010 04:06 PM

The opening was probably parodying some internet video that I am not aware of.

Schlomey 09-24-2010 04:16 PM

ok just finished it....LOVED it overall even though nothing really happened.

Juan 09-24-2010 04:18 PM

I guess I was just glad to see the crew again. I love this show and it was good see everyone again.

Requiem 09-24-2010 04:20 PM

Loved the episode. Had me cracking up at parts. I liked the intro.

Blitz 09-24-2010 04:51 PM

Yeah opening was strange. Overall it was good shit.

Ok, this was probably what they were spoofing.... but its several years old already? Maybe this isn't it.

Schlomey 09-24-2010 06:20 PM

that was fun.

They've never really done anything like that without an explanation. I figured that they'd reveal it was for a Sabre commercial or something like that, but I guess they just did it for fun?
Dunno. Doesn't really matter but it was certainly out of the norm.

I enjoyed it but I found it far less funny than the average episode. I think they kind of mailed it in and settled for it just being an intro to the season.
I'm sure it will pick back up next week.

I also was legit disgusted by Erin dating that squid.

Juan 09-25-2010 02:37 AM

Yeah, I had totally forgot that Andy and Erin had broken up.

Joe Kerr 09-25-2010 02:38 AM

While Gervais has denied that he would reprise his role as Brent in the U.S. version of The Office, he has since been confirmed to be making a cameo in a forthcoming episode as the character, though his appearance is described as "blink and you'll miss it". The episode is set to air on the 27th of January 2011.

SlickyTrickyDamon 01-20-2011 08:41 PM

If the series doesn't end this season I think they should try to bring David Brent in the series as the new manager.

CSL 01-20-2011 08:42 PM

Gervais would never do it.

Nightwing 01-21-2011 02:54 PM

Gervais would be amazing, but yeah hed never do it.

Apparently Carrel is leaving with 4 episodes remaining this season, and it was pretty much confirmed Jim wont be the boss.

I could see them going with Gabe in the end.

dronepool 01-21-2011 02:59 PM

I can't get into this show for the life of me :-\

Blitz 01-21-2011 10:57 PM

Rumours seem to be that Dwight, Darryl, and Andy will all be after Michael's job.

Blitz 01-21-2011 10:57 PM

Love Erin btw. She is so weirdly cute. Or cutely weird.

Juan 01-22-2011 02:43 AM

I think Andy would make a good boss (well as good a boss as Michael)

Blitz 01-22-2011 03:29 AM

Honestly I think they need a new character for the boss. All the characters are too familiar with each other. Someone new comes needs to come in and shake things up.

Jura 01-22-2011 12:29 PM

Like Jo and Gabe did?

Jura 01-22-2011 12:30 PM

And Charles Miner?

Blitz 01-22-2011 01:03 PM

I love Gabe. Of all the current characters, he's the one I'd most like to see take Michael's place. Jo's nothing but a recurring guest star. I thought Charles was an alright character, but too severe. He wasn't really anything except the anti-Michael.

Jeritron 01-22-2011 02:50 PM

The Office sans Michael Scott could go down as one of the most flawed ideas ever. He's so important to the show that I don't even know how they'd go about constructing an episode without him.

Nightwing 01-22-2011 02:52 PM

Toby would be a nice replacement too. It would be the ultimate slap in Michaels face in the end.

Nightwing 01-22-2011 02:55 PM

It could work cause its an pretty great ensemble cast, but they still focus way too much on Michael where that transition could be rough [in the viewers eyes].

Happened with Scrubs, and 70s Show lately. So, im weary.

Jura 01-22-2011 06:37 PM

With Michael gone it's kind of like Scrubs without JD.

DrA 01-22-2011 07:05 PM

Steve Carell carried this show. There is not a single person on this planet that can replace that role. I know he was a replacement in the first place, but still.

The first three seasons were amazing: some of the best stuff I've ever seen. Without Carell I just think the show will be like the newer seasons, except without any remnants the newer seasons have had of the first ones.

MVP 01-25-2011 02:19 PM

Any idea which episode will be Michael's last?

CSL 01-25-2011 03:05 PM

4 from the end apparently

Icess 01-27-2011 12:40 AM

Will Ferrel is suppose to take Carell's place.

Or at least a four episode arc.

Lock Jaw 01-27-2011 01:29 AM

Terrible, if true.

Jura 01-27-2011 08:42 AM

If they are serious about continuing after Michael then they can have the next season be like a tryout of various different managers. This way they can gauge the audience's reaction and from their feedback choose which actor they want the most as the new boss. And can do another season with the new boss.

thedamndest 01-27-2011 12:57 PM

NXT: The Office

Evil Vito 01-27-2011 01:16 PM

<font color=goldenrod>I'd actually be all for a season where each episode there is a new boss and its made clear that Corporate is testing the waters. However, I would stick to mainly people already there to give some of the less-heralded characters a chance to have an episode centered around them. Mayhem would ensue.

lol @ the thought of Kevin or Creed running the office for the day</font>

Jeritron 01-27-2011 01:22 PM

I don't understand why they'd take him off 4 episodes from the end if they're going to end it. That sounds like a set up to continue in further seasons.
If the show is going to end when Carell stops (which I am strongly in favor of), it should be the final episode.

And I'm not pro-ending of The Office or ant-supporting cast or anything. I love the show and think everyone is great, but I can't fathom this show without Michael Scott, and I prefer things to end on a good note. It doesn't have as much left anyways.
Ever since hearing that Carrel may be leaving, I've actually noticed his importance to the show more than ever, when I think about it and just realize his sheer influence on every scene and plot.

Nightwing 01-27-2011 01:30 PM

Yeah, I just read about Will Ferrell coming to The Office for like a 5 episode run. I dont know what to make of that.

Fox 01-27-2011 10:56 PM

Will Ferrell on The Office could be seriously amazing. Will Ferrell and Dwight interractions? The possibilities are endless.

thedamndest 01-27-2011 11:28 PM

David Brent

Jura 01-27-2011 11:40 PM

My liege.

Juan 01-27-2011 11:40 PM

Just watched a clip of the cold open with Gervais. Awesome.

thedamndest 01-27-2011 11:43 PM

As integral to the show as Carrell is, as a whole the show doesn't really have anywhere to go. Gervais would change that.

Wondering if they're building to him taking over or it was just a tease.

Jura 01-27-2011 11:46 PM

Could be just a tease but if they get good feedback they could weigh that option but it's up to Gervais.

Nightwing 02-01-2011 06:48 PM

David Brent and Michael Scott need to meet again. That was awesome.

SlickyTrickyDamon 02-02-2011 09:23 AM

Top 5 moment of television of the new decade right there.

Snowden 02-05-2011 05:16 PM

So whats everyone's guess of how Michael leaves? I'm guessing Holly gets moved back to Nashua, and Michael leaves with her.

Evil Vito 02-05-2011 05:39 PM

<font color=goldenrod>Honestly that's the only way I can see it happening at this point. Toby returns from jury duty and when Holly has to move back, Michael either quits or receives a surprising job offer to move to Nashua...probably the latter as it would be easier to work Michael into a guest appearance (like another company picnic or something).

For whatever it's worth, Jenna Fischer said that there's going to be more to it than somebody new coming in and taking over. Seems to suggest that there will be an internal promotion, possibly with a new cast member replacing whoever gets moved up.</font>

thedamndest 02-05-2011 06:21 PM

Holly is supposed to be in season 8 some so I think she isn't moving.

Lock Jaw 02-05-2011 06:22 PM

Michael spontaneously combusts.

Jura 02-05-2011 07:06 PM

At the end it is finally revealed that Michael G. Scott is actually an alias and he is really Agent Michael Scarn.

Yeah an internal promotion makes sense since there are already too many people on the show/working in that office already. I mean there's a regional manager, assistant regional manager, office administrator, 4 other salesmen, 3 accountants, a receptionist, a supplier relations person, a quality assurance person, the head of the warehouse, a customer service rep, an HR rep, and whatever Gabe does. Tell me that office doesn't have a ton of overhead.

VSG 02-05-2011 07:11 PM

Dwight K. Schrute for manager!

To my knowledge there is only one manager which is Michael. Jim is back to being a salesman, Andy is just a salesman as well and so is Dwight. Their titles don't really mean anything officially just like Pam's. So essentially there is a manager, 7 salesmen including the 2 traveling salesmen, the rest of what you listed with Pam and so on plus Ryan the temp.

I can't see her being even remotely interesting without Michael around.

Evil Vito 02-06-2011 02:55 AM

<font color=goldenrod>Yeah, internally I genuinely don't know who would get it. From a logical perspective, Jim would get it as he's already been a co-manager. But logic really doesn't apply since Ryan at one point was promoted to a high executive spot despite being a salesman who never once made a sale.

Dwight finally becoming manager would be interesting, but the constant story arc of him trying to get that job always leads to hilarity.

I think they could use this opportunity to give a "push" to one of the less-heralded workers in the office. Creed jumps to mind - I could totally see him bullshitting his way through the interview process and getting the job because Sabre wanted somebody who has been with the company for ages. Someone else can fill in at his job, or Ryan can take it over.</font>

Jura 02-06-2011 12:05 PM

I like how Jim has not been in the recent episodes so much.

Gervais would definitely be the one option I would be open to. My vote (not that it matters) is obviously in favor of ending without Carrell, but Gervais would interest me enough. At least it has the history of the UK series.

Will Ferrel would be strange, I think. It would be interesting to see Ferrel added as a new staff character while Gervais is the boss, but I doubt that.

Also, logically there is almost no way to write Michael Scott off the show while it continues, unless he goes on a honeymoon or takes some kind of leave, since the "documentary crew" regularly follows him everywhere he goes, whether it's pertaining to work or not.
They would totally send a crew with him if he got transferred or whatever.

If he took a season off or something like that, they could dedicate an entire episode(s) to showing footage of what he was doing while he was gone.

Maybe she'll be there to be the "update" of the character that isn't in the show anymore. I can't see her not leaving the show with Michael as either married or engaged.

Jim's story is over. He got Pam, got married to her and had a child.

Jura 02-07-2011 12:02 PM

That's not really relevant. He's been in other storylines or he's playing pranks on Dwight so it's not like he doesn't have a place in the show anymore. It's weird because last season I felt that here was too much Jim and now in this season he's on screen for like a few mins then disappears for the rest of the episode.

Evil Vito 02-11-2011 12:48 PM

SPOILER: show
'Todd Packer' and involves him getting off the road and back into the office.
Wonder if that has anything to do with who might get the job.

Blitz 02-13-2011 04:11 AM

David Koechner becoming a regular could be interesting. I love the actor, not so much the character. Just so one note.

Who has two thumbs and hates Todd Packer?

That guy! (points his thumbs to Blitz)

No prob with Packer in small doses. As a regular, he'd have to evolve though.

<font color=goldenrod>"Rescue Me" actress (and former model) Cody Horn will join the cast next season. Not sure what job she'll have - possibly Kelly's old job if Kelly doesn't return (her contract is up).

Seems like Pam will no longer be the one that all the straight guys in the office ogle. Paul Lieberstein (Toby) also hinted that she would be a love interest of Creed. Really hope Creed can get a storyline, that would rule.

Saw it on The Office's official Facebook fan page btw. Already loads of people bitching about it, assuming she won't be funny, etc. Don't really see the big deal.</font>

Steve Carell finishes filming on 'The Office' today

Six years ago, Steve Carell was still best known for his stint on The Daily Show, plus the occasional bit part in a big Hollywood movie, where he would inevitably steal scenes out from under bigger comedy superstars like Jim Carrey and Will Ferrell.

Today, Carell is one of those big comedy superstars — the sort of multi-talented performer who can play a genial everyguy (Date Night) or a slightly off-kilter loon (Get Smart, The 40-Year-Old Virgin), with the occasional furlough into animated work (Despicable Me, Horton Hears a Who!.) Incredibly, Carell has become a movie star without ever ditching his day job on The Office, which makes him a genuine rarity in the Hollywood pantheon. (Even the tragically-handsome George Clooney didn’t have a big, non-Batman hit until he left ER.)

Office co-star Rainn Wilson just tweeted that today is Steve Carell’s final day of filming on the sitcom. We shouldn’t say goodbye to Carell just yet. There are still a few more episodes with Michael Scott, and the actor’s post-Office schedule is packed with intriguing movie projects. But let’s all take a moment to consider the end of an era. And let’s thank Carell for all the funny/awkward/sad Office memories — TV won’t be the same without him.

VSG 03-04-2011 09:35 PM

Interesting story from Entertainment Weekly.

Quote:

Could Will Ferrell go from NBC’s Office temp to full-time boss?
Yes, according to the man himself — though other sources strongly caution against such a blockbuster prospect. Ferrell was attending the Comedy Central’s Comedy Awards this weekend when he said he will continue on NBC’s top-rated comedy beyond his previously announced four-episode arc that airs starting next month.
“Yes, I’m taking over,” Ferrell told EW when asked abut a rumor that he’s going to be Steve Carell’s permanent and full-time replacement. “My character’s name is Deangelo Vickers, he loves the American Southwest, and he’s just kind of in his own way going to step into Michael Scott’s shoes and try to fill them. I’m friends with Steve and a fan of the show, and I just selfishly wanted to do one episode with him, and they pitched multiple ones, and I said, ‘That’d be great.’”
And then the multiple episodes became a regular gig? ”Yeah,” replied Ferrell. “A regular, full-time gig.” One source close to Ferrell added that the actor’s schedule is being cleared to accommodate the show, which will enter its eighth season in September.
Behind the scenes, however, other sources dismissed the idea. One insider thisclose to the actor highly doubted Ferrell will join the show next fall and a network suit likewise rejected the notion. An Office production source left wiggle room either way: “Will was likely joking, but time will tell.”
Whatever the outcome, rumor has it that producers shot different endings to the season to address whether Ferrell’s character stays or goes.
It makes sense that NBC would want a top box office draw like Ferrell anchoring The Office next year. And the nets have been landing more major name actors than ever for fall pilots — with NBC also backing up the money truck for major celebrities like Christina Aguilera for its upcoming American Idol rival The Voice. The question is whether NBC could really afford Ferrell for a full season, and whether the actor would be willing to make that kind of time commitment. Cast member Rainn Wilson couldn‘t see it happening.
“Will is coming in as a possible boss but everyone knows he is not going to stay because he makes $20 million a film,” Wilson told EW exclusively in January. “He’s got other fish to fry.”
I suspect Ferrell is joking, but would be cool.
