NHL 2010-2011 Season Thread

11 Days left gentlemen and ladies if present, been watching some preseason games and as a Habs fan all I can say is goddamn, its going to be a long year.

Hmm, how about we make some predictions for what we think will happen at the end of year

Richard Trophy
1) Ovechkin - 61 Goals
2) Stamkos - 53
3) Kovalchuk - 51

Art Ross
1) Ovechkin - 121 Points
2) Stamkos - 118 Points
3) Crosby - 117 Points

Selke Winner - Datsyuk

Norris - Tyler Myers

Vezina - Tuukka Rask

Western Conference Leader - San Jose - 55W-20L-7T
Eastern Conference Leader - Washington - 60W-15L-7T

Stanley Cup Champion - Vancouver Canucks - 54-21-7

El Fangel 09-26-2010 06:33 PM

Sticky this someone.

YOUR Hero 09-26-2010 08:41 PM

I see Stamkos being in the 38-44 goal range myself.

Loads of people think Taveres will explode in his sophmore season (like Stamkos did), but I don't. Just due to the fact his supporting cast isn't there like it is in TB. 30-34 goals is a possibility, I'd love to see him explode, BTW.

I think the Sedins getting better.

Ovy might score 70-75 goals this year.

Skippord 09-26-2010 08:43 PM

The Mighty Duche is going to run wild on the NHL this year

El Fangel 09-26-2010 08:45 PM

Duchene should put up loads.

Wanna see Evander Kane vs Matt Cocke 2 :)

El Fangel 09-27-2010 05:29 AM

Price allowed six goals on 30 shots. He has surrendered 10 goals on 39 shots in his two pre-season appearances. That translates into a 6.67 goals-against average with a save percentage of .743.

:'(

El Fangel 09-27-2010 02:22 PM

Mark Streit out for up to 6 months with a torn shoulder, happened during a scrimmage inter-squad when he was checked by Matt Moulson and fell awkwardly into the boards.

Going to be terrible for a team that wasnt that great on the PP to begin with but without an adequate replacement, look for a trade or a signing in my opinion.

OssMan 09-27-2010 02:34 PM

Might try to go to Caps opening day hmm

Droford 09-29-2010 10:25 AM

I am in the process of getting two tickets to the Caps/Hurricanes at the RBC Center, section 110 6 rows from the ice.

should be fun since its the Hurricanes home opener (they gotta wait til October 27th..)

oh and

Gertner 09-29-2010 01:59 PM

Leafs vs Sens should be a brawl tonight.
Ottawa is icing Lessard, Smith, Bass and Carkner
Toronto is icing the dynamic duo of Rosehill who fights in practically every pre season game, and the reigning Heavyweight Champ Colton Orr.

Rosehill vs Bass and/or Smith who Rosie beat easily.
Orr vs Lessard or Carkner. I'd love to see Carkner vs Orr as their series last year was amazing. 3 tko's in 4 fights.

Gertner 09-29-2010 02:01 PM

Hall is probably gonna win the Calder but look for Gudbranson from Florida to be a darkhorse.

Gertner 09-30-2010 12:08 AM

Islanders signed Mike Mottau. That'll replace Streit :eyeroll.

Kovalev got into a fight tonight. Lol it didn't end well.

Joey Slugs 09-30-2010 01:38 AM

Hawks got their rings tonight.

YESSS AHAHAHA MATT COOKE !!!

El Fangel 09-30-2010 06:19 PM

I can watch that over and over and over and still not get bored of it.

Hell, my buddy knows I hate Cooke with a passion.

He goes would you be the least bit upset if he took a Chara slapper to the throat and I told him yes actually.

The time it would take to get the stretcher out, pick him up and get him off the ice plus clean up any blood left on it would really disrupt the flow of the game.

Also in the least, the Pens should be assessed a delay of game penalty for such a long break if that happens.

weather vane 10-01-2010 02:15 AM

oh big time... he's a homo

El Fangel 10-01-2010 02:37 AM

I used to hate Crosby, I used to hate Avery (grew to like him now), I used to hate Pronger (Fucking love the guy now)

But my hatred for Cooke has never once subsided even slightly.

OssMan 10-01-2010 06:11 PM

I hate all of them

Matt Cooke is amazing.

LoDownM 10-01-2010 07:27 PM

Let's say you are a hockey player, and you are under 50-60 games away from 1000 games played. in your 14th/15th year, would you retire or go for one more season to get to the 1000 games played milestone?

And yes, Darcey Tucker retiring with 947 games played is why I asked this.

Gertner 10-01-2010 07:33 PM

I loved Tucker back in the day, but this retirement is two years too late.

Zen v.W.o. 10-01-2010 07:47 PM

Tucker is what the Leafs miss.

Goodbye Darcy, you were amazing.

LoDownM 10-01-2010 07:54 PM

He wasn't too shabby with the Avs for the last 2 years.

El Fangel 10-01-2010 11:49 PM

Yeah, that always irked me a bit as well.

Especially Messiers games played, its like 12 behind the alltime record or something of the sort.

Gertner 10-02-2010 04:42 AM

Tucker was not good at all with the Avs. He was always bad in his own zone and the last two years he was beyond awful

YOUR Hero 10-02-2010 11:11 PM

Maybe Tucker wasn't going to make the team.

El Fangel 10-03-2010 01:19 AM

5 Days gentleman, are you as fucking excited as I am?!!!!!

Blitz 10-03-2010 01:31 AM

Like the Leafs this year. Think they will be decent to good.

hmmm, Really? :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

El Fangel 10-03-2010 02:44 AM

Champ, as a Habs fan even I would agree with Blitz at the moment.

Unlike the Habs whose goalie tandem is Price/Auld

Gertner 10-03-2010 04:15 AM

Cammaleri is a piece of shit. I hope Cooke leaves him quivering like Savard.

LoDownM 10-03-2010 04:23 AM

Hate that guy

Gertner 10-03-2010 02:53 PM

Lol Yablonski chasing Spacek down the ice and dropping him with a right was hilarious. The Habs are such a bunch of pussies. Enjoy your soft team with shitty goaltending.

Cammalleri should be suspended at least 5 games for what he did. That was ridiculous.

Zen v.W.o. 10-03-2010 03:37 PM

His punch didnt connect.

Enjoy your shitty non playoff team.

Gertner 10-03-2010 06:52 PM

We'll be right along side the Habs. Enjoy the second coming of Red Light Racicot.

Zen v.W.o. 10-03-2010 09:30 PM

One thing is certain, the Leafs wont be lighting the lamp behind Price...they have no scorers.

Gertner 10-04-2010 01:23 AM

Price will be lit up like a Christmas Tree. The Hab fans are going to drive him nuts.

El Fangel 10-04-2010 03:43 AM

Fuck Price.

SaskatchewanChamp 10-04-2010 03:46 AM

The Price Is Wrong!!!

No but seriously, until he gets out of Montreal, he is screwed.

Gertner 10-04-2010 06:46 PM

Cammalleri only got 1 game. Colin Campbell is a joke.

Joey Slugs 10-04-2010 08:04 PM

Gertner 10-04-2010 09:16 PM

The Islanders are going to be absolutley awful this year.

El Fangel 10-05-2010 02:52 AM

With Streit out, I wouldnt doubt it one bit.

Vital cog that kept a clunker, clunking.

Skippord 10-05-2010 04:02 AM

hey what do you Canadian people think the Avalanche will do this year?

I'm too biased to tell.

Gertner 10-05-2010 09:57 AM

May take a small step back, as I think Phoenix will do. They'll be fighting for a playoff spot. Anderson is going to have to be great as the Avs defence doesn't excite me.

They really need to cut down on their shots against. The hockey fight fan in me hopes David Koci makes a speedy recovery.

Gertner 10-05-2010 04:03 PM

Lol poor Ryan Parent

parkmania 10-05-2010 04:46 PM

How do teams get different numbers of preseason games? Most have 6, but Toronto had 9 while Islanders, Boston, and Carolina only got 5.

El Fangel 10-05-2010 04:47 PM

Honestly, I think Avs will do even better this year, virtually nothing has changed.

Duchene should put up a monster season, kid is amazing and if Shattenkirk and Elliot end up on the blueline and do as well as I think they will look out.

It all depends on Anderson, who I think is more then capable.

El Fangel 10-05-2010 04:49 PM

You take into account travel distances and the such, Toronto played against mostly teams that were located near (Detroit, Ottawa)

Also it takes into account their season start and the such, for example Vancouver has 9 days off before their first game.

All balances out in the ned.

Shattenkirk and Elliot were both sent down.

Their defence looks like this:
Liles-Quincey
Hannan-Foote
Cumiskey-Wilson
Holos

Wilson sucked during the pre-season, Foote is old as dirt, and Liles is awful in his own zone. They give up far too many shots and their special teams isn't very good. I'm prediciting the Avs to finish 9th-10th, but not surprised if they sneak in.

Yeah I know they were sent down, they may be brought up for the exact reasons you typed in the message I am quoting.

Wilson is meh, Foote should retire and Liles is horrible like you said.

Get some new blood in the backend.

Gertner 10-05-2010 08:08 PM

I'm not crazy about Elliot. The Avs have enough of this type. Cameron Gaunce intrigues me a lot and I'm a Shattenkirk fan as well.

El Fangel 10-05-2010 08:11 PM

They do have an excellent team for being so young.

Christ, get rid of Liles and Foote (hell I almost forgot he played for the Av's)

Gertner 10-05-2010 10:55 PM

Liles's contract is a bitch, as is Hannan's

El Fangel 10-06-2010 10:02 PM

Hey Gert, care to make an avatar wager on Montreal/Toronto?

LoDownM 10-06-2010 11:21 PM

Cant wait till tomorrow night. Dads going to see the Avs/Hawks game tomorrow, he's hoping the Cup is there since the Avs have a reunion thing for the 95-96 cup win, but I doubt it.

Also, "Toughest Man in the NHL" Ian Laperriere is told to retire by doctors http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=539761
