Back to the Future Eric Stoltz footage

I'm sure a bunch of you know that Michael J. Fox wasn't the first choice for the lead and that Eric Stoltz did a bunch of filming before getting canned. Some of the footage is now online from the 25th anniversary DVD and even though the video is only just over a minute long, it's pretty fascinating.

Made a new thread for this because I couldn't find a Back to the Future thread and because I know a lot of you will get a kick out of it. Merge it with something appropriate if needs be/if everybody has already seen it etc.

That's weird.

Jeritron 10-12-2010 11:54 PM

I've had so many people mention this to me today. The footage is interesting to finally see, but my reaction is that it's old news. I've known about them shooting tons of the movie with Eric Stoltz, and even seen screenshots, ages ago.
Then again, I probably shouldn't expect everyone to be as into Back to the Future and movie trivia as I am

RP 10-13-2010 11:05 AM

Eric Stoltz is officially on Suicide Watch

Xero 10-13-2010 11:09 AM

Weird.

Jura 10-13-2010 12:07 PM

Feels like I was watching a drama or something serious with Eric Stoltz as the lead actor.

thedamndest 10-13-2010 12:50 PM

As a kid it really bothered me that they changed Jennifers.

Jura 10-13-2010 12:56 PM

Are you afraid that someday you will have a Jennifer of your own and she will be replaced with another Jennifer?

Holy shit, I never realized this. I always knew there was *SOMETHING* off about the Jennifer in BTTF 2 vs. 1 but I could never put my finger on it. I thought she just gained weight or something.

Xero 10-13-2010 05:04 PM

I suppose we can make this the official BTTF thread.

Also, got my ticket to see it in the theater next Saturday. :D

As a kid I never even noticed.

Of course, I figured it out eventually.

JimmyMess 10-13-2010 05:53 PM

Its so hard to think of anyone but Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly. Just imagine how bad this flick could have been. Makes the movie that much better to have Alex P. Keaton in the role!!

G 10-13-2010 07:08 PM

if anyone cares

Was unable to reprise the role of Jennifer Parker, Marty McFly's girlfriend in the sequels to Back to the Future (1985) because her mother had been diagnosed with cancer.

Jeritron 10-13-2010 09:04 PM

How could you not notice that she became Elizabeth Shue?

Xero 10-13-2010 09:22 PM

They look similar....

Jeritron 10-13-2010 09:26 PM

Elizabeth Shue looks distinctly more like Elizabeth Shue than the original Jennifer

Xero 10-13-2010 09:40 PM

I'll be honest, I don't even know who she is other than "Jennifer".

Jeritron 10-13-2010 09:49 PM

She's probably best known for her roles in The Karate Kid, Adventures in Babysitting, Leaving Las Vegas, and most recently Curb Your Enthusiasm

Krimzon7 10-13-2010 09:54 PM

You guys are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY over my head. I loved BTTF, but am by no means such an afficianado.

This is another one of those posts where I brag about never seeing any of those.

Jeritron 10-13-2010 09:58 PM

I figured you'd have seen The Karate Kid and Adventures in Babysitting due to their status as 80s classics

My bad....

Jeritron 10-13-2010 10:47 PM

I'm going to see BTTF in theaters on October 25th. Can't wait

I actually hopped in my DeLorean and posted that in the past. The universe changed around you.

Lock Jaw 10-13-2010 11:40 PM

Well played, sir.

thedamndest 10-13-2010 11:44 PM

I have seen all of those Elizabeth Shue works but I have never connected the dots to realize they are all Elizabeth Shue.

Jeritron 10-14-2010 12:00 AM

If the Shue fits

Xero 10-14-2010 12:00 AM

Honestly, who throws a Shue?

Hadn't heard anything about this. Is it just a remake of the original, only in 3D/remastered digitally, or is it a whole new entry (i.e., a "Part IV")? Because while I suspect it's the former, the latter option would be awesome to see.

Xero 10-15-2010 12:21 AM

It's a digitally remastered version of the first one. Not 3D. Only running in two time slots (once on October 23rd and and once on the 25th) in select AMC theaters.

http://www.amctheatres.com/bttf/

Jerry alerted me to it and I got myself a ticket for the 23rd showing. :y:

CSL 10-15-2010 12:33 AM

Ahhh so this is the reason a bunch of people have been to see BTTF over here in the last few weeks. Was confusing because the cinemas round here don't tend to show 'classic' films.

#BROKEN Hasney 10-15-2010 02:45 AM

Yeah, they had it on while we were out for my birthday. Traded valuable drinkinking time to see it and didn't regret it at all

Just got back from it. Was totally awesome, as expected.

Poster is awesome, too:

Jeritron 10-24-2010 01:31 AM

Is it a full sized poster?

Xero 10-24-2010 06:54 AM

Yeah. It's actually bigger than my Dark Knight poster.

Lara Emily 10-26-2010 05:52 AM

Fuck that was a sick time, that movie still stands up to this day. Fucking awesome, they had no more posters when I went though :(, oh well it as too much AMC logo on it for my liking.
