Attire that made you think WTF

Looks are important to Wrestling fans.

I have always placed a bit of my opinion of people on their ring attire. If some guy looks like a jamoke, it is hard to take him serious. See just about every one of Ed Leslies gimmicks.

But this can afflict established stars as well.

List some outfits on otherwise solid wrestlers that made you say "WHAT"?

For Example.

WHen Nash Debuted in WCW at Bash at the Beach, he first wore red leather pants/top. As diesel and into today he wears black. I know the Outsiders were wearing red based attire, but RED LEATHER PANTS! Come the fuck on! I saw those and couldnt help but laugh. He eventually changed to Black and red.

HBK in an Elimination Chamber match. BROWN SHIT.

http://kentuckyfriedwrestling.com/th...bk-300x164.jpg

HBK has always been so sharp with attire, and then I saw this and just wanted to puke

Please provide more examples of shit attire on quality wrestlers.

Otunga's skin tone leopard skin looking trunks bother the hell out of me. I don't know if he's about to wrestle or start doing a chippendale routine.

Undertaker robe with the LayCool inspired hoodie was another WTF for me.

No doubt. My bud and I used to joke back in HS about whenever he was about to nail her he would enter the bedroom to his entrance theme complete with lights and smoke and tell her she was about to "play the game"

During his King of Kings phase, I could definitely see him doing that, complete with the signature swag out of a water bottle and spewing it all over the bed.

The sad part is you know somewhere in the world a grown man (who isnt Cena) actually bought and wore this thing.

Which reminds me Cena and Darren Young should go as each other this year.

Absolutely cannot stand seeing wrestlers' bare knees. Makes them look naked, and the knees are always small and scrawny. Elbow pads are optional, but I feel ALL wrestlers should wear knee pads.

I agree. I didn't mind the red and purple trunks Triple H wore, because it reminded me of his younger days in WCW.

thedamndest 10-27-2010 09:11 PM

That was for an angle where he was hitting on Jake Roberts' wife, thus her face is emblazoned on his cock.

Inno got the one I would have said but I couldn't remember what event those gold pants were from.

Big Show looked bad when he had the two strap Andre the Giant thing.

Farooq when he wore that retard helmet in his first year in WWF.

Sixx 10-28-2010 03:14 AM

That black fag from TNA.

Jeritron 10-28-2010 06:17 AM

I usually don't care about attire as long as it's acceptable for the character. I dig certain attires for sure though, like the varying designs on Shawn and Jericho's pants over the years, RVD and Angle's singlets, and things like that.

One attire that stuck out to me as flat out disappointing was Undertaker at Wrestlemania 20. That was a case where attire kind of did matter. Since he was returning as the Deadman for the first time in years, I think everyone expected him to be in some variation of his old attire. It's one of the big things that sets the two gimmicks apart.

He still wore the biker pants, his hair hadn't grown that much, and he wore a cowboy hat instead of the trademark Undertaker brimmed hat.

Those weird Shawn tights at Survivor Series were definitely noticably bad. And once HHH wore spandex capri length tights at Summerslam to hide muscle loss from an injury.
That was strange.

It also looks weird and goofy to me when wrestlers don't wear any kind of kneepads.
Other than that I can't really think of any negative feelings I've had with ring attire.

Mr. Nerfect 10-28-2010 08:40 AM

I'm a little embarrassed to say that I completely marked out for certain attire in the day. I was actually excited to see Shawn Michaels in his colourful pants for SummerSlam and Survivor Series in 2002. Yeah, I was disappointed. The jeans at SummerSlam made sense, though, since it was a "Street Fight."

https://othuia.bay.livefilestore.com...206642BFD8.jpg

This is a bad picture, but sadly it's the only one I could find. This is the attire that sprung to my mind when I first read this thread. I love Jericho as much as the next guy, and he was so badly booked in his feud with Triple H. But for some reason the guy getting to headline his first WrestleMania and choosing to wear green didn't sit well with me.

http://mimg.ugo.com/201004/42165/mark-henry.jpg

I'm sorry, but these are just horrible. Henry adopted this attire when he became a partner to Hornswoggle for reasons I cannot quite remember. Then they stuck. Why? I've got no clue. Especially since Henry's attire before hand (black with coloured lining and symbols of him doing weights, etc.) was pretty fitting and looked better. It also sucks that he adopted MVP's attire to form a tag team with him (the idea of matching attire is good; but the attire they chose to match), and he still wears the attire with "WSM" on the back in the MVP circles. Why?

http://6f.img.v4.skyrock.net/6fb/wwe...4061_small.jpg To this ---> http://www.superstarsarena.com/pictu...p-7-2009-5.jpg

MVP's attire was always wacky, and it took a while to get used to. But during his run on SmackDown!, he eventually found this stride where we was wearing stuff with cool designs, some darker and brighter colours. It fit his character perfectly. Then he moved to RAW and switched to...red? Always red. The only noticeable details on them was that he had "MVP" written on the back in black in circles. I actually think MVP was greatly hurt by his change in attire.

Another two guys I would like to mention are Edge & Christian. I don't think either guy has been really hurt by their change in attire; but sometimes (and only sometimes), Edge's attire seems...boring. Other times it is quite cool; but yeah. It's hit-and-miss with him. I don't get Christian's current cursive design. It looks kind of passive. His more blocky design from about when he broke off with Chris Jericho to his return to the WWE, with all the different colours and stuff were fine.

Also, Big Show's blue attire was horrible. I think he wore this when he was with The Miz. He switched back soon enough, and with good reason.

Tom Guycott 10-30-2010 12:57 AM

Undertaker near the beginning of the "American Bad Ass" phase, where he had brown leather pants. It was like no one could find him some black pants, so he just said "fuck it" and went out in those for about 3 weeks. Really though, as horrible as they looked, who was going to say so to the Deadman?

DLVH84 10-30-2010 01:06 AM

How about The Barbarian's 1990-1992 WWF attire, complete with antlers.

Y'know, considering Goldust was always supposed to be some screwed-up freak, the S&M outfit thing does kinda make sense for him.

Also, this one didn't exactly make me go "WTF," but I really hated Kane's costume in 2002-2003, right before he took off the mask completely.

http://fast1.onesite.com/fans.wwe.co...2.jpg?v=172156

This one right here. They'd just sort of thrown away the whole fire motif and given him a half-mask that didn't look nearly as cool as the one he had before that. He looked less like Kane and more like a TNA knockoff of himself (well, I guess that's Abyss, but still)

The Pope 10-31-2010 10:59 AM

Great example: Ron Simmons as WCW heavyweight champ... so it is only logical that WWF repackaged him as Farooq Asaad, dress him in a shitty, blue foam gladiator outfit, and have him managed by Sunny. What part of that made him scream "world champion"?

...DAMN!

Yeah. That.

Also, that pic you posted of Goldie is kind of unfair, Savior... that was through the whole phase of his career where he went all Johnny Depp and was rebelling against the paint that made him famous where he was either impersonating his dad, wearing ANYTHING from just a diaper to bondage gear whilst paired with Luna (that pic), or the angry Dustin Rhodes with just the "FU" shirt and burning the Golddust costume in a trash can. I don't think WWE was completely responsible for that mess... as opposed to dressing a grown man as a <s>trash collector</s> waste disposal engineer and expecting him to get over with the kiddies.
