Gunna download a bunch of Comic book torrents

Recommend me some stuff. Also one of the torrents i'm downloading mentions a reader program for comics or something?

Explain and recommend.

( I really like Gambit. Probably my favorite comic guy ).

Sixx 11-18-2010 10:31 AM

Marvel crossovers:

Secret Invasion
Civil War
Siege
(they're all on isohunt)

And I use CDisplay.

RP 11-18-2010 11:29 AM

what is CDisplay, gimme a link

RP 11-18-2010 11:35 AM

I got Civial War, Initiative, Road to Civil War

not sure where to start

Got CDisplay thanks

Sixx 11-18-2010 12:54 PM

Chronologically would be best.

Road to Civil War, Civil War, The Initiative.

Lock Jaw 11-18-2010 08:14 PM

Since you seem to be a Marvel guy, try their space stuff:

Annihilation
Nova
Annihilation Conquest
Guardians of the Galaxy
War of Kings
Realm of Kings
The Thanos Imperative

Sixx 11-18-2010 09:04 PM

I, myself, don't really enjoy their space stories, dunno.

dronepool 11-18-2010 09:07 PM

Get Daredevil written by Bendis or Brubaker. If you like Gambit, you might like the 'dark and dirty urban' feel of Dardevil.

What are your favorite themes/comic preferences? Lots of action, less words? A lot of words and barely any action? A mix of the two? Any genres you like? Sci-fi? Kung Fu? Super hero action? Horror? Street vigilantes?

I sorta agree. I like some of their space stuff well enough, and a few of the characters from space, but for the most part I prefer things on Earth in the respective character universes and the overall Marvel universe.

http://download.cnet.com/CDisplay-Im...-10162238.html

It's a sequential image viewer. Basically it displays comic book pages one page at a time on your screen. It reads cbr, cbt and cbz file extensions, which are the most common comic book file types on the internet. And really those are just rar and zip files with renamed file extensions.

I recommend you check out:

The Sword
Powers
Preacher
The Boys (ongoing series)
Transmetropolitan
Top Ten
Revised X-Men Chronology Project (basically every X-Men and X-Men related title from 1963 to 2006 in like 18 different torrents; fair warning, this is fucking huge and took me years to get through)

Pretty much agreed, I am getting the Silver Surfer mini in February though, it's 2.99 and I like the Silver Surfer the most out of the few space characters I like.

http://www.comicbookresources.com/as...1289862937.jpg

he herald of Galactus returns this February in the pages of Silver Surfer, from the electrifying creative team of Greg Pak and Stephen Segovia! The dreaded herald of the world-eater returns to Earth, but what fate does the High Evolutionary hold for the man behind the sentinel of the spaceways?!

“Introducing him as the Silver Savage in "Planet Hulk" was ridiculously fun. Now we're having a chance to do something even more insane, telling a story utterly grounded in human emotion that embraces the Surfer's cosmic mythology while shattering all expectations” says writer, Greg Pak. “This is the Surfer you've always loved and a Surfer you've never seen before. Long-time fans, dontcha dare miss it! New readers, come on in -- this is a perfect jumping on point for rediscovering Marvel's shining, silver star.”

The wielder of the power cosmic has survived many battles, but can anything prepare him for what lies ahead? Find out in February when the game-changing Silver Surfer #1 (of 5) debuts in comic shops everywhere!

SILVER SURFER #1 (of 5)
Written by GREG PAK
Pencils by STEPHEN SEGOVIA
Cover by CARLO PAGULAYAN
Rated T+…..$2.99
COMING THIS FEBRUARY!

Sounds cool.

Fignuts 11-19-2010 12:13 PM

Just finished the Thanos Imperative, and it was pretty awesome. LOVE Thanos.

thedamndest 11-19-2010 12:32 PM

What are some good graphic novels that aren't superhero, or if they are then not like Batman, Spider-man, etc?

blake639raw 11-19-2010 12:34 PM

If you're into DC, you should check out some of Green Lantern's current run. Start with Rebirth, and then check out the Sinestro Corps War.

dronepool 11-19-2010 01:42 PM

^ Or Punisher Max

Rammsteinmad 11-19-2010 02:09 PM

Ditto on the Punisher series.

Kick-Ass as well, I've only read a few of the comics, but found them very enjoyable.

The Destroyer 11-19-2010 02:34 PM

I prefer the original Punisher Max series to the new one. Garth Ennis.

I like super heroes who dont have the greatest super powers, but have decent ones and are really cocky and are bad ass none the less. I always marked out at the Gambit appearences in the Xmen comics when he would have some fights and some good one liners.

Also, i'm pretty positive when i stopped reading comics, they came out with a Gambit series. Did this last? I know they came out with a Rogue series too cause i have the first 3 comic books of that one still, put up somewhere.

I'm not just a marvel guy. I'll take any recommendations.

Rammsteinmad 11-19-2010 03:37 PM

The Gambit series was pretty boring to be honest, if you're referring to the New Son saga. Shit dragged on for ages and was really dull.

RP 11-19-2010 03:39 PM

If you get time, recommend me the torrents of this stuff on demonoid too. Tell me what it is and link torrent if you have a chance. I'm going through torrents looking for stuff, but i want shit that's in order and good. I dont want to read stuff out of order.

RP 11-19-2010 03:42 PM

I'm getting one that has DC vs Marvel in it

Since you've got all the Marvel/DC and Access comics, you should get the Amalgam ones to finish off the set. :y:

Sixx 11-19-2010 04:00 PM

Yeah, get that Punisher MAX. Downloaded it today and it's amazing so far.

Lock Jaw 11-19-2010 05:15 PM

Try Jeff Smith's Bone for non-superhero.

DC Stuff I recommend:

Old Series:

Starman v2
Young Justice
The Spectre v3
Sandman Mystery Theatre (this one is Vertigo)
Gotham Central (This is about the police in Gotham, not Batman)

Not really into DC, but this sounds interesting.

It was written by Ed Brubaker and Greg Rucka, who both pretty much write only Awesome stuff.

Original, by Ennis.

It gets less good when Ennis leaves, but that's not til after issue 60.

Ha, downloaded issues 1-60.

Also, have read the Punisher: Born comics?

Sounds interesting and I remember reading one of the books in a store back in the day.

The Destroyer 11-20-2010 05:51 AM

I've got Born somewhere, but I don't think I've ever read it. Might be worth reading them though, since the final story arc of the Max series ties in with Castle's days in Vietnam.

Sixx 11-20-2010 05:59 AM

It's only 4 books I've heard.

Think I'll give it a go after I'm finished with the MAX series (currently on issue 25, the story about Slavers starting).

Fignuts 11-20-2010 01:18 PM

Born is pretty awesome, yeah.

Don't know where to put it so I'll just share here. Cam Kennedy's gotta me one of the lamest fuckin' comics artists ever. Everyone he draws looks like a fucking elf.

Well, at least in the Punisher books he worked on.

Gonna come right out and say I think Garth Ennis is a tad bit overrated. Don't get me wrong, he creates some great stories, and I enjoy his stuff overall. I just don't see him as the brilliant mastermind most others do. I just think he tries too hard to be shocking and gruesome. I've always been of the opinion that extremely viloent or shocking scenes are much better, and have much more impact if used sparsely, and built up properly. Good example being what happened to one of the avengers in seige.(Not going to say who for spoilers sake, but you know what I'm talking about if you read it.) Fucking 7 or 8 issues into Preacher and The Boys, and you're already desensitized to it. What's the fucking point?

Also, I feel like Ennis just preaches(no pun intended) too much about his beliefs and morals. Yeah every writer puts their own beliefs and theologies in their stories, but at least they are subtle about it. Ennis is about as subtle as a brick to the head, and he spends SOOOO much time talking about it. It's like alright I get it, let's get back to the story, asshole.

That's why I feel Punisher was his best work. He had to pull it back a bit on the graphic nature of his work since it was Marvel, and he was dealing with a character who already had an established personality and set of beliefs, so he couldn't crowd up the dialogue with all that kind of crap.

Probably not a popular opinion, but there you go.

" I'm a little more bitter about the loss of innocence than Bill, but we both don't appreciate Garth Ennis having Superman demand blowjobs in a comic and expecting people to call him a genius.

People do. People suck."

For the most part, these aren't "superhero" comics.

100 Bullets
Akira
Sandman
Preacher
Transmetropolian
Watchmen
The Walking Dead
Y - The Last Man

THE INVISIBLES

Do it.

Akira

If we are suggesting manga stuff, I'd also put up Ghost in the Shell. That and Akira are both really great, don't have any of the jackassery that is in your typical anime stuff. Or at least not as much of it.

Sixx 11-23-2010 11:40 PM

I don't think he means Anime.

Like, at all.

Fignuts 11-23-2010 11:56 PM

Well what Akira is he talking about then?

Sixx 11-24-2010 12:13 AM

Um, I meant that I don't think RP wanted Anime.

What Would Kevin Do? 11-24-2010 12:20 AM

It's not anime.

Fignuts 11-24-2010 12:45 AM

Well what is it then?

What Would Kevin Do? 11-24-2010 01:05 AM

It's a comic. It was made into an anime, but it was a comic first.

Fignuts 11-24-2010 03:35 AM

Well yeah but the same stereotypes that are in anime are in manga. It's a completely different style and culture from comic books.

Uh, ok. I don't care about terminology here, anime or manga, whatever.

It's still Sailor Moon to me.

I don't like how the superheroes and mutants are shown in his stories.

I mean in The Punisher series. Spider-Man's always been this joke-cracking, happy fella and all, but making Daredevil and (especially) Wolverine a comic relief? Now that's just stupid.

Fignuts 11-24-2010 04:15 AM

It's because he hates superheroes. And like I said, he's not subtle about it.

Sixx 11-24-2010 04:23 AM

In Siege the superheroes were still kinda bad-ass.

In Punisher it is just sad.

I enjoy his Punisher stories but I don't think they're anywhere close to Punisher MAX. That was a perfect series for him to shine, considering there were no superheroes at all.

Wow, you're stupid. All manga is not Sailor Moon, and a lot of manga is similar to US comics.

Nah, you're stupid.

What I was saying is the drawing style is the same in manga and anime, doesn't matter than one is comics and one is cartoons.

And I hate this kind of drawing style.

Once again, are you stupid? Drawing style varies GREATLY amongst different manga. Just like comics, they have different artists with entirely different styles. Yes, Sailor Moon is drawn one way, the Battle Royal manga is drawn totally different.

I'm not trying to be a jerk about this, but come on. Saying all manga is a certain way is the same thing as saying all US comics are the same.

Not saying all manga is completely the same, but some things tend to stay the same. Huge eyes, the eyelashes, weird-shaped faces, etc.

What Would Kevin Do? 11-24-2010 01:37 PM

Once again, it varies from artist to artist. Yes, a decent amount have big eyes, etc, but not all of them. I know this because I hate the kiddy style, big eyes art. Not all manga is the stereotypical big eyed manga.
