L.A. Noire
I did a search and saw no thread for this so I thought I'd make one. I thought this was PS3 exclusive but it's on the 360 aswell.
<object width="853" height="505"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/66I_wEw4oLo?fs=1&hl=en_GB&color1=0xe1600f&color2=0xfebd01"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/66I_wEw4oLo?fs=1&hl=en_GB&color1=0xe1600f&color2=0xfebd01" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="853" height="505"></embed></object> Can't find much info right now but here is what I have.: You play as a 1940's L.A. cop and WWII Veteran called Cole Phelps. You start as an "On-the-beat" cop (which act as training missions) and gradually get promoted. As you progress and are promoted, you are presented with new cases to solve. Cole is a "straight laced" cop so you can't expect to be able to gun down random people in the street like you can in GTA or RDR. You investigate crime scenes, gather evidence and talk to witness or interrogate suspects. Interrogation is supposedly quite deep with you being able to ask questions or straight out accusing them of the crime. Using very advanced facial expressions and movements, you can read suspects faces to see if they are telling the truth or not. The games motion capture is very impressive. IGN disecting the 1st trailer. Jesus. Certainly looks interesting.
|
The facial animation is off the chain, but it is effectively an actor doing it and then turning them to polygons.
|
OFF THE CHAIN
|
Shocked that it's coming out so soon. Seems like it would have been a hot topic months, or even a year ago.
|
I was wondering what happened to this - I remember reading about it back in May, and then it just kinda disappeared until now.
|
Is that the guy from Mad Men? Kenny?
|
I don't watch Mad Men but I know one video said that it was some guy from Mad Men. Couldn't tell you who, though.
|
Holy shit.
|
Yeah, I saw this on the cover of a GameInformer mag back in Feb or March. Looks awesome, to say the least

Is there multiplayer in this?
|
Nothing's been said but I think it's most likely going to be in in some form.
If I can fantasize for a minute, it might be fun to have a MP mode that has everyone play as seperate detectives trying to solve some random crime before the other players. Or a co-op MP mode where you all try to solve a crime togethor by spreading out and interegating suspects and looking for clues and reporting back to whoever is in charge of the investigation (the games host). Build enemy AI so that going alone is near suicidal and it's better to work in pairs. This would make things interesting, sociable and require team work. Ok, I'm done fantasizing. |
Leaked trailer with release date. The upload is given the wrong name to avoid being tracked down and deleted:

Screens from L.A. Noire Crime Desk #1 of 5: Homicide
As Detective Cole Phelps in L.A. Noire, you'll rise through the ranks of the LAPD, along the way facing cases across five different department crime desks. One of the most brutal and harrowing will be that of Homicide. Los Angeles is being terrorized with a series of horrific murders perpetrated on young women. As these cases get reported, it will be up to you to bring the guilty to justice. Is this the work of a lone killer or sick copycats? Some glimpses of Phelps’ pursuit of the killer or killers were seen in Monday's big Official Trailer #2 – and today, we present the below brand new screens taken from murders on that desk. Tomorrow, look for the launch of the new official L.A. Noire website with a bit more on the Homicide crime desk including high-res versions of these and other new crime scene screens too grisly for the Rockstar Newswire. http://media.rockstargames.com/rocks...omicide165.jpg From "The Red Lipstick Murder". An eagle’s eye for detail. The smallest and most insignificant seeming item could be the entire key to the case. http://media.rockstargames.com/rocks...omicide864.jpg Another unfortunate victim. Phelps examines the corpse for telling signs of trauma. http://media.rockstargames.com/rocks...omicide892.jpg A psychopathic killer leaves a message on the victim. http://media.rockstargames.com/rocks...omicide206.jpg Another victim falls prey in a string of brutal killings around Los Angeles. |

Wow. Looks fucking cool.
Their mouths match every word. |
Still not feeling this. Sure, the facial technology is damn cool, but I've not seen or heard anything where the gameplay backs this up.

Can't wait for this game.

Found out that GS (and probably other retailers as well) will be launching this at Midnight on 5/17. Strangely enough, it will be my first midnight launch, and to make things really insane, I plan to sit and watch 3 hours of WWE (Tough Enough & RAW) before leaving the house at 11:05 or so and I plan to walk, as I do not wish to bother my dad for a ride to and from GS (yep, he's one of those people who pretty much is ignorant about VG's, thinks they're a waste of time :nono::(:'( ).

You are not a real twenty odd year old human being with thought processes like this. It cannot be possible :'( You have to be some variety of supercomputer, possibly programmed by DrA bought to entertain the hundreds of posters here and probably other forums around the world. Every post is like a crafted work of art.

I'm sure you made his day when you told him that you would be out past midnight to buy a video game and not to meet a "lady".

ahahaha. Sweet move adding your date of birth to your profile after I made that post. Since you aren't some kind of supercomputer to experiment on internet message board posters, you absolutely have to live in some kind of care home. |

Rockstar revealed some new details about the game and future DLC
* The game will be on 3 discs for the Xbox 360 and filled up 1 Blu-Ray disc for the PS3. The game only needs to be swapped twice on the Xbox 360 and doesn't hurt the flow of the game. * The game is 25-30 hours long which is typical for most Rockstar created games. * A lot of cases were being developed with a bunch being reserved as DLC or as "stand-alone" sets during development which should help keep the game fresh for a while. * Rockstar realizes this game might have less replay-value than most of their games which is why the made a lot of cases to play. http://screwattack.com/blogs/ScrewAt...A-Noire-is-Big |
i have mixed feelings about this. i like the concept of it and it just looks fantastic, but i have a feeling it could get old and repetitive very quickly

Pre-ordered this like a beast earlier to get hold of some of the 'bonus' cases. Any Americans on here picking this up before the EU release date are cordially invited to bite me.
|
I have decided to goozex this
|
Really tempted to buy it too, but I have enough on my plate
|
I am 4 of 30 already in line, and they say the 360 line is in the 40's already. If I don't get it in time to beat and flip for an EA, I will send it to you.
|
I will be buying this at Wal Mart at Midnight on the 17th.
|
It looks good, but I can wait. Not in the mood to pay attention to games like this right now.

I say this strictly because there is a rarely used 360 lying around and I'm too lazy to sort that gaffe out myself :(

This game is so fucking good, I have an erection.
|
I hope you choke on it.
|
A lot more action than I was expecting rather than all be investigation, it really works though. Almost done with the first disc, then I have to wait for 2 to download.
|
I really need to buy an HDTV, finish RDR and its DLC and then buy this.

About the game being good part not the erection part. :D |
Was just reading the Best Buy flyer online. If you're one of the first 16 people in line at the midnight opening, you'll get the code for Nicholson Electroplaing Arson Case.
The first 16 people? I got a feeling everybody in line might get one. Somebody should go and confirm this. |
Not sure who all belongs to the cheapassgamer site but for kmart, if you buy this game there you get a 20 dollar gaming coupon plus a free 19.99 or less game of your choice
|
Pre-ordered the other day, cannot wait for this.
|
this game looks amazing
I will definitely be picking up a copy |
As a huge fan of Phoenix Wright, you have no idea how this game is for me. Throw in some action to break it up with amazing writing and total across the board perfect performances and you have a game that actually leaves me speechless.
Cruise around town with your partner, get some good banter and maybe even pick up some side-missions. The side-missions are quick 10 minute action blasts and are fun, good to level up too. In the main case though, it's slow paced to start with. Pick up and examine evidence done by just walking over and pressing A then moving the item around. Interrogations where you have to read the person and accept they're telling the truth, tell them they're lying with evidence or doubt them, which is accusing them of lying without evidence. Then there's parkour chase scenes jumping around to tackle or subdue a perp. It does need things like that, shootings and car chases to break the game up and it does it perfectly. You can even fail cases and move on to the next with some consequences. Almost everything is perfectly executed with ridiculous polish. It's a proper mature game and I mean that in the sense that everything that's there in a bloody or disturbing way is artistically justified and helps the game, unlike something like Manhunt which is edgy for edgy's sake. You will be dealing with some sick fucks. If you've got both consoles, get the PS3. It was the lead platform and there is some very minor but occasionally noticeable pop-up in the 360. The only other issue I've had is that the animation can get in the way of some of the chase scenes. It's only very rare it happens, but it sucks when it does. It's going to take something very special to be better than this as my GOTY. Hell, it might be my new favourite of all time. They say it has no replay value but trust me, like a good movie on DVD, you will want to keep this and play it again at some other time. Everything holds up. Amazing. |
TL;DR version: Best thing out of Australia since planking.
|
Got it at Midnight at Wal Mart and played for 3 hours. Pretty awesome. The graphics are just jaw dropping. There was an actor that I recognized standing outside of a bar drunk, couldn't tell you his name but I LOL'd. It truly feels like a interactive Hollywood film. You get into the case and you don't wanna quit till it's done, truly immersing.
GOTY right now, but Elder Scrolls Skyrim might be a contender for it too if it is as awesome as it is looking so far. |
Oh and Wal Mart purchases have a code for a traffic case called A Slip of the Tongue. Dunno if these "exclusive" cases will be DLC later or not.
|
Hold down Y *triangle for ps3* next to a vehicle.
|
Grrrrrr. Wanna start playing this, but I want access to my cases and machine gun so I'm ready to go the minute I take control.
Stupid PlaystationStore not working. |

Also, I've not died in a shoot-out using a pistol, you don't need the machine gun. |
Loving the game so far, even tho I suck at reading people. Cars seem to handle worse then the ones in Mafia 2, really the only complaint so far.
|
The handling model is GTA4, but with much older, worse cars. The handling's fine if you remember to brake before turning like a real car.
Other drivers when you have the siren blaring, suck cock however. |
My missus is really looking forward to this, considering she only plays The Sims and the Layton series... Hasney, how'd you get it the UK so early?

This game needs a replay feature or something. Was on a high speed chase, partner shot the guys tire out and his car flew straight up in the air flipping like it was a Warthog from Halo 1.
|
who wants to give me the money so i can buy this?
|
Something's happened that's take the shine off it the teeniest bit. It's at the last case of the homicide desk, so don't look until you've played it.
SPOILER: show |
I'm on Case 3 in homicide.
|
Sony cannot catch a break right now.
If you have a 60/80gb PS3 with the latest firmware, don't play this. It's overheating the console. |
what about 250GB?
|
Some people are saying its due to how the older models have a different type of soldering on the circuit or motherboard similar to what was causing the YROD/YLOD issue. Firmware might be part of the reason but it also could be more of the fans working a lot more than usual with the newest update on older models.
Xbox 360 has been having some problems as well but mainly with older models. |
