Jura 11-25-2010 02:35 PM

KEWL

Jura 11-26-2010 03:24 PM

I hope I win but I will most likely not. Because my life is a pathetic excuse of an existence.

NoJabbaNoBogRoll 11-27-2010 03:55 PM

Left 4 Dead 2 is only £3.75 today. Anybody who doesn't already own it should immediately grab it.

Xero 12-21-2010 11:59 AM

*Bump*

New deals until January 2nd. SMB is $3.75 for another hour or so.

SlickyTrickyDamon 12-21-2010 12:15 PM

$39.99 for every Rockstar Game except for Red Dead Redemption.

Xero 12-21-2010 12:20 PM

Steam is ridiculously awesome with these sales. I don't get how they can do all this. I can understand the back catalog going on sale, but they sell current titles for dirt cheap in these sales.

Razzamajazz 12-21-2010 07:54 PM

if only my computer didn't suck ass and i had a little extra money i would be all over this

I would imagine that their cost per unit is very low, due to having digital content only.

When the sales come around, I've bought games that I would never have considered buying at a higher price, so they've made extra money there.

When it comes to current titles, I'm sure they simply want people to get into the habit of using Steam for all their game buying needs. Once you own a game on Steam, you must play it through Steam, so you'll then become aware of everything else they're selling, during your gaming session.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-22-2010 03:31 AM

I have so far bought:

Lego Batman
Burnout Paradise Ultimate Box
Puzzle Quest
The Witcher (wanted to play this for ages!)
The Polynomial

£12 Spent. Madness.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-22-2010 03:38 AM

I don't think I've ever made any bones about being a filthy pirate, but when Steam do stuff like this, this is now my collection:

http://steamcommunity.com/id/Hasney/games?tab=all

#BROKEN Hasney 12-22-2010 04:02 AM

There's also this which can be redeemed on Steam and you can pay what you like:

http://www.humblebundle.com/

It's worth it for Braid alone, but the other games I've never played until now seem great as well.

G 12-22-2010 02:11 PM

i bought that bundle a week ago for a penny and now they sent me an email saying they've added the bundle #1 to my account

#BROKEN Hasney 12-22-2010 04:59 PM

Just got that as well. World of Goo

Bought Bully and Trials 2 for £4

#BROKEN Hasney 12-22-2010 05:13 PM

If you only buy one game this sale, buy the best RPG ever made. Recettear.

You will not regret it.

Drakul 12-23-2010 10:28 AM

Signed up for Steam the other day when I saw Spore was only £22.49 and securom free. Bought the Creepy & Cute expansion and the Galatic Adventures thing.

Also bought both Abe's Oddysey & Exodus and I'm just DL'ing Audiosurf now.

Kane Knight 12-23-2010 01:04 PM

Spent like 30 bucks and got over a dozen games. Even bought recettear without thinking to check the system specs.

Oops.

Drakul 12-23-2010 01:08 PM

Speaking of system specs, I used that "Can I Run It" website to see if I could run Spore before I bought it. It said I could run the game at full settings but when I play it on anything other than the lowest setting, it slows down to a crawl.
Same thing happens with Audiosurf if I go any higher than the 2nd highest setting or add any graphical filters like "paint" or whatever.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-23-2010 01:14 PM

Upgrade drivers and see if that does anything.

Boomer 12-23-2010 01:20 PM

Picked up Blood Bowl Legendary today. Considered Darkstalkers and Dead Rising 2, but I'll just wait for lower drops on the consoles.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-24-2010 04:51 AM

Was just browsing through some indie games and saw The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom for 39p so grabbed it.

Kane Knight 12-24-2010 05:51 AM

PB Winterbottom was a game I appreciated for its artistic style, but really didn't "love."

Reduced is great, but EA are giving Burnout Paradise away free.

Mike the Metal Ed 12-24-2010 11:14 AM

The Telltale Holiday Pack has me tempted btw, are the Sam and Max games any good?

Boomer 12-24-2010 11:30 AM

I'm a huge Sam and Max fan. I've played all of the seasons, as well as Hit the Road, and they are a lot of fun. Certainly not difficult, but a nice three hours per episode for some good laughs.

Could be the UK store only, came up for me as £4.99, then reduced by £4.99.

Mike the Metal Ed 12-24-2010 11:50 AM

Definitely gonna grab the Odd Box too, been waiting an age to play Stranger's Wrath.

Xero 12-24-2010 12:01 PM

I'd probably pick up the Oddbox if I didn't already purchase the two Oddworld games for like $2 when they were first released on Steam. Have Munch's Oddysee and not that interested in Wrath.

Oh. My computer probably couldn't handle it anyways

#BROKEN Hasney 12-24-2010 01:40 PM

Just got Saints Row 2 for £2.50

G 12-24-2010 01:44 PM

that's a great game. can't wait for sr3

Xero 12-24-2010 01:47 PM

Should I pick up Borderlands? Is the GOTY worth it for $25?

G 12-24-2010 01:49 PM

Considering the GOTY comes with $40 of DLC, I'd say so. Borderlands is easily worth $25 by itself. Gets extremely fun when you play with friends.

Jura 12-24-2010 01:57 PM

Alone it seems repetitive and tedious after a while. It's much better with other people.

G 12-24-2010 02:07 PM

Yeah, I hated it at first. But then 3 of my friends got it and I've put more time into it than I did Modern Warfare 2. I have like 8 days clocked across both platforms

Requiem 12-24-2010 03:43 PM

considered buying that package for $79. borderlands and DLC, bioshock 1 and 2, bunch of sports games including new ones like nba 2k11, and just a generally nice collection of games I wouldn't mind owning.

Xero 12-24-2010 04:36 PM

I picked up Borderlands.

Seriously have way too many games I haven't finished but intend to. Probably have at least 20 games on PC, PS2, Wii, Gamecube and 360. I've promised myself that after this sale, barring a very select few titles, I won't be buying anything until I've cleared my backlog.

Jura 12-24-2010 08:15 PM

I finally have the money to buy some games but the day I do there are no games on the daily deals that I want. I hope they do the thing from last year where they bring back all the deals for the very last day.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-25-2010 02:54 AM

They didn't bring them all back, just the most popular ones.

Jura 12-25-2010 10:06 AM

They better or I'll be blasting semen onto Hasney's face.

NoJabbaNoBogRoll 12-25-2010 10:23 AM

I'm waiting for the Crysis pack to pop up in the sales, since I just got a new PC last month.

Xero 12-25-2010 01:50 PM

All the Splinter Cell games, Dragon Age, The Monkey Island Bundle and Shank are on sale, along with others obviously.

Razzamajazz 12-25-2010 08:13 PM

Kane and Lynch alone is worth the pack. ;)

Kane Knight 12-26-2010 08:14 AM

Anyone play Altitude? The sale game (Well, one of them) today?

I tried playing the demo with a controller and kept crashing. Then I adjusted my controller and kept crashing. Then I tried with with a keyboard and kept crashing. I've got this feeling there's something I'm missing here.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-26-2010 01:02 PM

A lot of the ones up today have already been on :(

Jura 12-26-2010 01:51 PM

Which is good. I guess there won't be semen being blasted onto Hasney's face this time. At least not by me.

Aren't they calling it a second chance deal?

Makes sense the deals would be, you know...Old.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-26-2010 05:07 PM

Dunno. The front page doesn't work on this thing, have to flick through the pages to see the deals.

Kane Knight 12-26-2010 08:33 PM

What thing? I've been having trouble accessing it through the Steam client, but it works fine through FireFawkes.

Jura 12-26-2010 10:06 PM

Just click the pink rectangular box that says Today's Deals.

LOL no wonder!

#BROKEN Hasney 12-27-2010 06:06 AM

Honestly, my mum has just borrowed this from school while the holidays are on but I can't see why people pay the same as an alright laptop for one.

I've got an iPhone which I can deal with, but the limitations as a tablet are inexcusable.

Do you need any more info?

Xero 12-27-2010 01:46 PM

Picked up Serious Sam HD.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-27-2010 02:37 PM

Already had it. Would have fancied that, Knights of the Old Republic and Manchinarium if I didn't already have them.

That's what I was waiting for. They had the same offer last year, but my old PC wouldn't have fared well.

The Mask 12-28-2010 08:53 PM

so i just made a beast of a town and it crashed without saving. had a hot flush :'(

Xero 12-28-2010 09:26 PM

Yeah apparently it's unstable, at least on Windows 7. I've had it crash a few times. Make sure to save every 10 minutes or so. No autosave at all.

Drakul 12-28-2010 10:39 PM

I have Sim City 4 Deluxe (Sim City 4 and Rush Hour in one box) on disc. Got it for about the £2.99 from GAME a couple months ago.
The game has problems on XP as well. It would randomly close itself down and it froze once or twice. I thought it was just me but I guess the game itself is just messed up if it's crashing on your pc as a download.

Xero 12-28-2010 10:51 PM

Honestly it wouldn't be so bad if it just had an autosave.

Not trying to excuse them from making a broken game, just saying.

Drakul 12-28-2010 11:55 PM

I thought one of the good things about pc games was that companies could make and send out a patch for problems very quickly. This game's been out for 2 years.

Even if the disc based game is a lost cause, I'd have thought they'd have fixed it before letting it be put up for download.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-29-2010 03:29 AM

Never had SC4 crash on me once.

Don't forget that there's 766546755646444 PC combinations out there, so it can be hard to stop them being totally bug free (especially when you're EA and you don't really care)

One of the bad things about PC games is they won't always work right on all hardware profiles. You want something that "just works" without hardware or software constraints, get a console.

Drakul 12-29-2010 10:46 AM

I do and that's why I have a lot of them and prefer consoles to PC for gaming. I only really use my PC for RTS games I know I can run. Any other genre, I stick to the console.

It's no surprise to me that SC4 would die on my pc even just a couple of times but, with the way Xero was speaking to Mask about it, it sounded like it was a common occurence and not something that just happened because my pc sucks for games, even when it surpasses the maximum settings requirement.
Almost killed my pc this morning trying to update/change the settings on my video card to play Spore on high settings. The game froze and I got the blue screen with the "Windows is shutting down to prevent damage" text.

The Mask 12-29-2010 12:23 PM

Is that really a valid argument, though, when so many other games come out without reports of crashes like this?

Xero 12-29-2010 07:35 PM

Got Plants vs Zombies today FTR.

The Mask 12-29-2010 09:21 PM

ugh sc4 has crashed on me about 5 times now. 3 of them i'd done really well and forgot to save :'( pretty close to giving up on it

Kane Knight 12-29-2010 10:17 PM

I still haven't bothered to play it. Scoring it on the cheap was nice, but I'm still addicted to recettear and SMB.

And Plants v Zombies, which I'd be playing on ecks blah even if I hadn't bought it.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-31-2010 04:16 AM

Bought New Vegas in a shop on a disc as I had a gift voucher.

What's the fucking point though? I've installed a gig of data from the disc, but it wants to download the remaining 5 gigs. Retarded.

Calamondin 12-31-2010 05:17 AM

You should be able to browse the DVD and install it from there. That's how it's always worked for me and other steam games like that.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-31-2010 05:34 AM

Nope. All just encrypted data files.

#BROKEN Hasney 01-02-2011 10:03 AM

OK, really pissed off with PC gaming right now. Dunno what New Vegas was doing, it must have taken some stuff from the disc and then downloaded some as it said it installed 5gb in an hour, which it wouldn't over a 1mbit connection. Now it's downloading a 6 gig update...

I bought FlatOut and have just booted it up to be greeted by Windows Live asking for a CD Key (which it gave me at least) and now the fucker is downloading my XBox Live profile. Total fucking joke PC gaming is these days, bar indie stuff.

#BROKEN Hasney 01-02-2011 10:08 AM

Kind of like the "feel" of Windows Live once it's down raping my bandwidth though. Especially with a 360 pad.

EDIT: except it does the weird thing my XBox does and won't let me stay connected to Live. Steam has no issues though.

NoJabbaNoBogRoll 01-02-2011 10:40 AM

Steam > Games For Windows Live

Cheeses me off when games require use of BOTH.

#BROKEN Hasney 01-02-2011 12:25 PM

I quite like GFWL, but then I have lots of friends on 360.

It is quite retarded for Steam and GFWL to be required, but if they're building a game with GFWL features, it's good that Steam allows their games (and their occasionally crazy sales).

that's the future under Valve.

Good thing they're altruistic and stuff.

#BROKEN Hasney 01-02-2011 07:01 PM

Was waiting to see if it got a bigger reduction in one of the featured games of the day, but grabbed Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers while it was cheap with all the expansions since my Live is still on the fritz.

#BROKEN Hasney 01-03-2011 07:57 AM

Managed to play New Vegas finally. On lowest detail at 720p, looks just as good as the 360 version. Love it.
