World Wrestling Entertainment has come to terms on the release of WWE Superstar MVP as of December 2, 2010. WWE wishes MVP the best in all future endeavors.
Wow, I really wasn't expecting that.

Anybody Thrilla 12-02-2010 05:26 PM

I'M GOIN'

CSL 12-02-2010 05:27 PM

Not surprising really, he's been going nowhere for a long time. Wouldn't be too shocked if they bring him back down the line.

Anybody Thrilla 12-02-2010 05:27 PM

Actually, this is a bit disappointing. I thought he was finally becoming tolerable again. His match with Chris Benoit at....Wrestlemania 23, was it?...that was awesome.

Schlomey 12-02-2010 05:27 PM

good

whiteyford 12-02-2010 05:28 PM

wtf?

Londoner 12-02-2010 05:28 PM

hahahahahahaahhahahahahahahaha

BigDaddyCool 12-02-2010 05:30 PM

What happened to him? I thought he was doing good then they seemed to put the breaks on him.

Xero 12-02-2010 05:30 PM

James Steele 12-02-2010 05:30 PM

Wow. I am surprised. I wonder if this is a case where he asked to get out of his contract or what.

Cool King 12-02-2010 05:31 PM

I thought he was actually in line for a push, with his new theme and being in the Intercontinental Title scene. :-\

I was clearly wrong.

No need for alarm. I did not get fired . I asked for & received my release. I felt it was time to go international & freshen things up.

Can we merge this with the Pink Slip Pool thread by any chance?

#BROKEN Hasney 12-02-2010 05:34 PM

Fair enough. Get some work in Japan and Europe and in a few years when WWE comes knocking again, have a fresh stab. I look forward to it.

I think MVP leaving deserves it's own thread.

Xero 12-02-2010 05:36 PM

The guy came in with a bit of promise. I didn't exactly see a serious world title run with him like some people did, but he was always solid and could have become one of the rotation main eventers. They just fucked him up with his booking.

MoFo 12-02-2010 05:37 PM

Great news.

Has he pulled a "Kurt Angle" and asked for his release and then say it's because he wants to do something else but then he actually jumps ship to TNA? :shifty:

Calamondin 12-02-2010 05:38 PM

I haven't really been paying attention to Smackdown, so maybe this isn't as shocking as I seem to think it is. But wow, didn't see it coming.

Anybody Thrilla 12-02-2010 05:38 PM

That feud with Matt Hardy is probably one of my all-time favorite feuds, which is weird to think about.

RiX1024 12-02-2010 05:38 PM

Good riddance, he ballin'd his way out.

Hes 37 yrs old btw, thats him finished in WWE now, cant see him coming back.

Anybody Thrilla 12-02-2010 05:39 PM

To all the people who are 'happy' about this, what for? It's not like MVP was monopolizing TV time or holding down talent. He was just there...sometimes...putting on decent matches. I'm not exactly heartbroken to see him go, but I'm not elated in the least bit. He's a decent hand.

I'm happy for him, but I'm pretty gutted to not have him. Constant bright spot on Smackdown and he was fucking over, given the chance.

Just listen to the old-school Raw when he comes out.

James Steele 12-02-2010 05:46 PM

I wonder if he has "Christian Cage Syndrome" in which he thinks he is better/more over than he actually is and decides to go to a promotion that will put him in the main event and give him a World Title or two...only to be forgotten in the grand scheme of things and come crawling back to achieve upper midcard glory.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-02-2010 05:48 PM

Or it could be he is legitimately trying to better himself on the ring while earning a bit of coin in Japan. You work so much you can't soak anything in while in WWE. Taking a break while he's in a dead end could be the best thig for him.

My reaction...

Chavo Classic 12-02-2010 05:49 PM

I'm shocked. Not upset or disappointed though, just shocked. He was a solid worker

Xero 12-02-2010 05:50 PM

Or Steele could be right...

Honestly, I wouldn't doubt it for a second, because he was shuffled so much.

If he winds up in TNA within 6 months then we'll know his "international" line is bullshit, even if he goes for a few shows.

His international line is the "no-compete" clause.

Can't honestly see how anyone working for any promotion where they earn enough money to live on, can flick on their TV, watch TNA (that's bad enough) then say "I NEED TO GET ME IN THAT".

Said it before but, i feel everyone overrated him on here, i mean world title pushes, REALLY? Never really enjoyed watching him tbh.

Xero 12-02-2010 05:58 PM

Hey, say what you will, but it's true that the travel for TNA is no where near as bad as WWE. Even if he were to take a pay cut, I'd think it'd almost even out without having to pay for all those flights or hotels.

The Ravishing One 12-02-2010 05:58 PM

I preferred him as a heel.

I think for some people it's more like "Wow, that place sucks, but if I was there, it would be SO much better!"...or somewhere thereabout.

TPWW's 'rating' of a wrestler has never had any effect on anything that has actually happened on WWE TV. If you never enjoyed watching him, I guess that's on you. Would you say that TPWW's opinion on him soured yours on him?

Nah, maybe slightly but never enjoyed him much anyway. Didn't really seem to offer anything. It just boggled my mind how others thought differently as much as they did.

I'm just wondering what this does for Smackdown overall as a show. If you look at a majority of the cuts and guys who were released by choice, SD has been hit hard and it seems they don't know who to push at this point. I mean you can count SD's main eventers on 1 fucking hand now.

XL 12-02-2010 06:19 PM

VIP is his brother's gimmick name in wrestling, so he can't use that.

I liked the guy, but to be honest he is 37 years old, so realistically a decent push for him in WWE is out of the question.

Hopefully we'll see him in TNA where he'll get a good run as a main eventer.

So the Slick part was 'Slicky'...the Godfather part was 'Tricky' (because his hoes turned tricks)...which leaves Dude Love to be...'Damon'.

If I can be honest with you, I think your gimmick might need some re-tooling.

I do not understand the MVP hate at all. He's a guy that does everything very well, but doesn't do anything great. He's not Shawn Michaels, but he's a guy everyone should want to have around.

He stole Shelton Benjamin's finisher and his lack of caring of how his WWE career progressed.

He was like the longest reigning US Champion in WWE history but didn't use that to get himself over enough.

He had one of the best feuds of a very slow year in 2007 with Matt Hardy and became a tag team champion with him during the feud.

He was a victim of everything good happening on his career happening on the "B-show" Smackdown. He never asserted himself as a major force on Monday Night Raw. He went into Raw the US Champion after having a good feud with Shelton for it. Almost the week he came in he dropped the title to Kofi Kingston.

Anybody Thrilla 12-02-2010 06:47 PM

That is a pretty sick roster, to be fair.

I also miss that belt. I seriously would have rather been European Champion as opposed to WCW champion in 2000-2001. And European champions we're cool back in the day. Al Snow for example, and William Regal.

But I mean his character would have been better in the attitude era, and if he never got past European title status, he still could have been entertaining.

Ha. Probably, but when did the attitude era end exactly? He was thrust into main event status, or at least working with main eventers like Kane and Taker, and this was in 2005 or 2006.

But if WWE wasn't PG during his fued with Swagger last year, he could have been much more open about his prison stay and made it more personal.

I get that WWE doesn't need need cursing to be good, but MVP using bad language would have made it more real.

Yeah, i never praise anything, ever. You're seriously confused cause i say a bunch of times when stuff is done well(you'll see me in raw threads praising stuff alot also). Doesn't mean i can't fucking bitch to when i wish to. Calling me a non fan also when ive watched raws/ppv's alot and have to stay up till 4am to watch it all. Yeah, non wrestling fan indeed.

Not surprised he was released since for a while he was unhappy with his direction and status in the WWE while the writers couldn't promise him anything in the near future to fix it.

I remember when there were reports of him being promised a nice push or something big in the future in exchange for doing the long loosing streak gimmick but his move to RAW fizzled out after the first few weeks.

His super long losing streak lead to him capturing the U.S. title...which he had already done. Sick push. :y:

It wouldn't surprise me that given his age, he's realized he's not going to crack the top line in his current position, he can go away, learn something new, round out his skills, maybe raise his value/worth to WWE and come back in a year or so for a last crack. He hardly wrestles a demanding style and he was a late starter so he can go comfortably into his 40's. Either way I've got all the respect in the world for him, brave move walking away from guaranteed money when you've got a comfy spot.
