Great, as if we're not already jealous of Entertainment Weekly for the easy access to the hunkiest actors and sexiest starlets of today and tomorrow, now we have to hate them because they've seen Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception. The game, due in 2011, will feature Drake and partner Sully on a hunt for a lost city, a journey that leads them to the Arabian Peninsula and Rub' al Khali Desert. (Note the sandy "Exhibit A" above.) The story not only lifts from the life of Sir Francis Drake but also British Army officer and archeologist T.E. Lawrence (yes, as in "of Arabia").

EW's preview later reveals a few new gameplay tweaks, most notably the ability to fight several enemies at once, and an expanded multiplayer offering. They've even got the teaseriest of teaser trailers, the practical upshot of which is that we'll have to wait until Saturday's VGAs to get a good look at the thing.

Naughty Dog has revealed a little more (or a lot more, depending on your television) about Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception -- specifically the fact that the game will support stereoscopic 3D. Yes, we know what that means: Sully's mustache will never have looked more real.

In related news (related to Uncharted 3, not Victor Sullivan's facial hair), Late Night host Jimmy Fallon has taken to Twitter with word that the game's developer will be his guests on Monday, December 13. The Naughty Dog crew will deliver the first live gameplay demo of its latest PS3-exclusive adventure -- in mind-blowing 2D

Noh I like a lot of games with trains in them. Like at the beginning of Final Fantasy 7. Actually like every Final Fantasy, remember the ghost train in final fantasy 6 :drool: and there's one in mother 3

The amazing train scene is in Uncharted 2. Really long level. Probably the 3rd best level in the game.

The moving train level was epic. Seriously, when it opened up and you could see this endless train across the scenery... was a "Holy shit....." moment.

EVERY level in that game was amazing.

Favorite part was probably when the building fell.

Never played any of them.

Yeah, first part in a video game to ever make me jump out of my seat laughing at how awesome it was.

Gonna start playing the Uncharted series over Christmas break.

I don't think I'll ever get bored of Uncharted 2. I usually play it online religiously for a few weeks then put it down to play something else for a month or two, then get back to it and it feels fresher than ever.

Last week, Naughty Dog and SCEA held a packed-to-the-rafters press event at the PlayStation.Blog lounge at GDC 2011 focusing on UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception. The anticipation from the invited press was palpable as they all filtered into the PlayStation.Blog Lounge – afterwards, word on the street was that we delivered.

Evan Wells, Christophe Balestra, Richard Lemarchand and yours truly were to give the demo and speak with the press – the embargo just lifted this morning, so be sure to visit your favorite gaming media outlet for their take on the event and the reveals.

We kicked off the press event with the first-ever demo outside of Naughty Dog halls of UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception in stereoscopic 3D. We chose to present a portion of the burning chateau sequence we premiered in late December. Since most people would already be familiar with the way the sequence looked and played, we thought it would make all the more evident the stellar work the Naughty Dog team has put into making the 3D presentation part of the core Naughty Dog Engine.

In my opinion, with this small snippet of gameplay we’ve proven that we’re able to perfectly retain all of the spectacular visuals and effects that you’ve come to expect from an UNCHARTED game into the 3D presentation. Playing in 3D gives you some added benefits to gameplay as well, such as improved aiming around corners and an excellent read on depth for all traversal sequences, no matter how tricky. Unfortunately, until you get to see UNCHARTED 3 running in 3D at an event or in your home this November, you’ll have to rely on impressions from our attending media for how good it looked and played.

The real meat of the press event was the unveiling of the central antagonist that will try to foil Nathan Drake and Victor Sullivan at every opportunity – meet Katherine Marlowe in the video above.

Marlowe is definitely not one you want to get in the way of, or worse, double cross! To give you some background, Katherine Marlowe is the coldly calculating leader of a secret society whose roots date back over four hundred years to the court of Queen Elizabeth I. She has a long-standing rivalry with Nathan Drake over Sir Francis Drake’s ring – something they both contend is rightfully theirs and is also the key to an ancient mystery.

As you can tell from the cutscene above, Marlowe is a much more cerebral enemy than Drake has confronted in the past, using both psychological and physical tactics to get what she is after. Marlowe also has the assistance of her team of highly trained agents in this secret society – they are far more elusive and dangerous than the hired guns Nathan Drake and Victor Sullivan have faced in the past.

Additionally, we’ve uploaded a set of stills from the cutscene, a high-resolution render of Katherine Marlowe and concept art of the agents and thugs Nathan Drake and Victor Sullivan will face in UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception.

Do I need to play Uncharted before I play Uncharted 2? I am going to borrow the 2nd one and don't want to really play the inferior first one.

Dunno, it's not as important as playing mass effect in order, but there are a couple things you will appreciate more if you play the first one.

Also, the first uncharted is still a phenomenal game.

Uncharted 3 beta begins July 5, early access for InFamous 2 buyers and Plus subscribers

You won't have to wait until November 1 to try out Uncharted 3's impressive multiplayer experience. Naughty Dog is putting the mode through an open beta test that director Justin Richmond says should "teach us a lot." Early access to the multiplayer beta will be granted on June 28 for PlayStation Plus subscribers and for those who have purchased inFamous 2 (recalling a similar promotion tied to the first inFamous). The beta will launch for all PSN members on July 5.

Uncharted 2's multiplayer beta attracted more than 130,000 participants and saw an awesome prize gifted to a few lucky players, so expectations are high for the new beta. After the break, check out a thumping trailer for the new multiplayer features, including the deeper character customization -- and get a look at that spectacular Airstrip map! Mark your calendars: The real fireworks begin on July 5.

Uncharted 3 features Uncharted TV, heavy Facebook and YouTube integration

Developer Naughty Dog has announced that Uncharted 3 will feature heavy integration with social networks Facebook and YouTube, and include a new video service called Uncharted TV.

The previous game in the series offered Twitter integration (with varying success), but Uncharted 3 is going all-in on the social networking gamble, allowing players to share achievements and actions on Facebook directly from the game, and even message and play with Facebook friends who aren't connected on the PlayStation Network. The multiplayer menu has a Facebook-specific feed attached as well, so players can browse those updates right alongside the game's new customization features.

The game also integrates with YouTube. Courtesy of a revamped Cinema mode (that allows players to rewind previous games and even mark out clips and major game events), video can be posted on YouTube from inside the game, and Naughty Dog will run a service called Uncharted TV to post "plays of the week" and other announcements through the video sharing service. The whole setup was surprisingly full-featured -- players will get a look at just how it all works when the game goes into open beta on July 5.

Game director Justin Richmond said he wants Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception to be the premier multiplayer experience on the PS3, a game that makes players "leave that disc in their system because they want to play so much."

We won't know whether or not that will happen until players actually get their hands on the disc this fall, but judging by the feature list revealed this week at a Sony event in Los Angeles' Chinatown, Naughty Dog might just pull that off. The actual gameplay hasn't changed all that much -- the multiplayer still relies on the single-player campaign's shooting and cover mechanics. Outside of the game modes, however, the metagame is just plain incredible.

Holy crap, might finally be time to upgrade to PS+, or start playing the Infamous games.

You already read a mess of information about Uncharted 3's upcoming multiplayer beta back before E3, but now developer Naughty Dog wants to show it off in a slurry of walkthrough videos (which we've dropped after the break). The studio also revealed a variety of details about the beta, breaking down which gametypes and maps will be paired across the beta's three weeks -- it'll take up approximately 1.7GB of your precious HDD space.

Additionally, ND says that the beta will allow for stereoscopic 3D, as well as split-screen co-op (though not both simultaneously, of course). As the beta goes live tomorrow for PlayStation Plus subscribers (that's still most of us!) and inFamous 2 owners, you may be wondering when you'll be murdering Drake with ... uh ... other Drakes -- unfortunately, the studio isn't sure just yet, but suggests keeping an eye on the official Naughty Dog Twitter account for up-to-the-minute info. Studio head Evan Wells also notes on his Twitter feed that the beta "should be on PSN around 2PM PDT tomorrow." He additionally points out that "Naughty Dog doesn't control this," making 2PM PDT somewhat tentative.

Recently was able to pick up the Greatest Hits version Drake's Fortune and I enjoy it a lot almost as much as Amongst Thieves hopefully the new one lives up to the greatness that is Uncharted btw this should be on the movie's soundtrack:

Played a few rounds of the multiplayer. It's really fun. I'm surprised how much has been upgraded from two. Weapons seem totally different firing wise thus far, the environments are more interactive (zip lines, mounted guns, etc.)

The beginning of the airstrip board has people on cars and planes, and it uses the motion dynamics, which is fucking bad ass, and you can leap from the car and get into the cargo plane, and vice versa. Pretty slick.

Oh, and there's also now a free for all mode (everyone vs everyone), and a three team deathmatch as well. Plus a mode where all boosters and crap are removed.

Loved the multiplayer in Uncharted 2. Wish I had bought the game instead of just renting it. Can't wait for 3.

Downloaded the beta earlier. Fun stuff.

Had an amazing game in the beta last night, and I found out what happens if you end up in a tied sudden death.

If you tie in sudden death, you start fresh, you can see where everyone's name (where there character is on the screen, even through walls), and it's elimination, one death per character, last team standing wins.

Awesome.

Sony confirms the game will have an Online Pass and also confirmed from now on, every Sony game will have the pass system as they officially join as full-time members of the new system.

Just like Mortal Kombat and others, Uncharted 3 will have a "season" pass called "Fortune Hunters' Club."

The pass costs $25 but allows a saving of around 45% or $20 if all the DLC is bought. 7 DLC packs would be given away as "free" along with a premium theme.

Also revealed was none of the DLC packs will be single player as Naughty Dog has no intentions of making single player or expansion-like packs and instead all DLC will be related to multiplayer.

All I've seen in reviews so far is that the pacing and characters in the game have been improved from UC2, which is great if the gameplay of UC2 hooked you, but they haven't really advanced that area at all.

Just finished it. I definitely enjoyed it overall. You can tell the guys at Naughty Dog love playing with physics for different scenarios, and it really shows.
