There's a thread for this somewhere...
LET'S MERGE IT, BABY |
Still no actual gameplay.
So is this basically X-Men Legends 3?
I won't get too excited until I see some gameplay footage.

SO can anyone name all of the silhouettes?
All of them? No, but I know I saw Cyclops, Nightcrawler, Wolverine and Surge.
Yeah, but can't be bothered to watch it again.
Pretty sure Magneto was in there too.
I'm looking forward to this, although not as blindly as I was for the last one.
Last one?
I meant Ultimate Alliance 2.
Except this has nothing to do with the Ultimate Alliance series?
Seemingly some of the silhouettes are the "new" character, so I doubt anyone will be able to name all of them. |
They better offer some nifty options. Doesn't have to be CoH or Champions but since they toying with the concept, they gotta step up.
Okay if that's the case then I'm probably wrong, on my first viewing I kinda thought I knew who they all were, on second viewing, maybe not so sure:
Cyclops, Emma Frost, Quicksilver, Pyro, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Magneto, Surge, Colossus (okay, that my was first guess, but upon second viewing could be wrong), Marvel Girl, and okay, this one I don't know. On the first viewing I thought it was meant to be Hellion, but to be honest the powers seem nothing like Hellion. |

Most of the video game press is interpreting the trailers as hinting towards an RPG (maybe Mass Effect style) where you might get to create your own mutant. If this is the case I am so fucking sold

Hmm
Huge article in OXM with screenshots and everything. I will bullet point it on here, but not tonight. Tired and lazy.
Who's that tribal tattooed dude? I hope it's not an online RPG :-\
One of the selectable heroes, I guess. Looks like a fuckwit.
Definitely hope the new characters are customizable in appearance. I'm not to interested in playing as Randy Orton's cowboy cousin.
Ah hear voices in muh head...
Fuck I had heard it wasn't going to be custom characters and now that's what one of the 3 looks like? Ugly!
You choose their powerset.
And he looks like a fuckwit, because he is. His backstory is that he is the racist son of a purifier. All three characters have backstories, and apparently this game is being treated as canon by marvel. I'll tell you guys the rest later. Busy atm. |
Can't be worse than Rise of the Imperfects.
That's not saying much. The developer is on extremely thin ice with me after Too Human, I would like to see them return to form.
The game could be a literal piece of shit shaped like a dvd and still be better than ROTI
Yes it was terrible, but I wanna dig this game for it's merits. Not feeling it based on what I know.
Quote:
* The tone of the game is said to be "dark, mature, & intense" striving towards an adult feel, but a Mature rating is said to not be likely. * San Francisco is divided into human & non-human sectors as Professor X is dead. * The game starts with a peace rally being staged to pay tribute to Professor X, which is when you are prompted to pick one of three characters in the crowd. * OXM's Activision guide chose Adrian Luca as their character. * The game presents the player with frozen in time "decision moments", indicating its time for players to make a big choice. The first big choice in the game allows you to pick your power archetype ranging from being able to manipulate matter and your body mass, energy projection, or a third one that was kept a secret. * The game allows you to decide who is friend or foe in the X-Men universe. * Cyclops, Quicksilver, Surge, Magneto, Nightcrawler, Wolverine, & Gambit are confirmed to make an appearance in the title, with plenty more to be announced. * X-Genes play a rather large role in the game, ranging from boss fights to deciding to give it to an X-Men, or someone else to form another alliance. * Linking together a good amount of attacks will fill up your "Mutant power" meter, allowing you to pull off even stronger special attacks. * One of the special attacks described as a part of the "Mutant power" meter was "Force Pillars". The attack was said to produce crowd clearing beams that rise from the ground. |
I hope they have compelling reasons to join the Brotherhood, rather than 'some players just wanna be evil'. Many games have morality systems that are nothing more than 'be golden or be a dick!'
Show me a mutant child being bullied where the only course seems to be use of violence to save him. Force me to protect myself against human oppressors. Show how hard it is for mutants who don't live in Xavier's lovely mansion. Show me a fair perspective of Magneto's main thesis. Morality shouldn't be based on incentives like 'evil points and powers vs good points and powers', they should mind fuck you. Few games actually made me sit there looking at two opposing options. The first major choice in Fable III comes to mind, as well as GTA4's 'guy hanging off the building' choice. This I wanna see, but what I'm reading is "Hey you can be fighting Sabretooth or Gambit cool!" |
Nah, in the preview, they said Gambit and Surge were on the brotherhood's side, because their purpose in this game is that they want to form an army to combat The Purifiers, and similar hate groups. X-men, I assume, want to take a more peaceful route.
So the Brotherhood isn't flat out evil in this, and in fact, some of the good guys even side with them. |
So it's either be good or good-ish naughty?
If this game allows me to be an X-man and kill Gambit, it'll be my fav game ever

this looks somewhat promising
You're fucking crazy.
I'd have preferred X-Men Legends 3 with Sinister as the focus but I'll take what I can get when it comes to X-Men.

Supposedly they will be showing more at E3.

Still pissed you can't make your own X-Man
Still gonna get his game, cause why the fuck not but man it'd have been amazing to create your own character with your own power set and then interact with the marvel universe however you see fit rather then a choice of 3 stock characters. That being said anyone whining that you don't get to play as Wolverine or Cyke or anyone needs to STFU. The whole point of this game is you get to be an X-Man or fight alongside the Brotherhood, wouldn't work if you got to play as Wolverine LOL |
I like the concept of this game, but I'd like to see a list of powers you can choose from. The video kept focusing on the same powers over and over again and those just didn't excite me for the game at all.
Really wish you could at least customize the characters appearances a little. These 3 look exactly like you would expect a video game stereotype character to look. |
Hard to believe this comes out tomorrow considering it has gotten such little hype.
I would pick it up but I want to play as established X-Men characters too..not just new ones :?: |
They've not hyped it because it looks horrific and they're hoping the X-Men name will sell it.
Remember when Silicon Knights were good? Yeah, it was a while ago... |
can't wait to play as white guy or asian girl
It's a fairly simple choice for you. WTF do I pick?

But I'm the resident X-Men nerd. :(
This game is fail. Completely missed opportunity from the concept. How do you not think people would wanna make their own mutant? Fuck this. And don't get me started on the gameplay shown.
4.0 from gamespot.
Honestly, they shoulda just put out X-Men Legends 3 and called it a day. Even if it'd be the 5th game in the series and probably dumbed down to hell, it's still a better option. :(
Yeah. XML/MUA were great.
The last one was definitely typical Activision (dumbed down, shortened with punched up graphics), but I still enjoyed it for the week or so I owned it.
It's not even a hard kind of game to do. The engine is there already. The bulk of the work is writing a good story and picking the right cast. |
Games like this need to be 30 dollars from the start. I'm glad it got bad reviews, maybe Activision will wake up.
I'm not sure why they allowed SK to make an X-Men game when they've done shit in over a decade. It was a bad move from the start and I knew it from the first inbo and screens. What a waste of money and time and license. God.
Give Raven Software the X-assignments from now on. They are on point about all things X-Men. |

Hate all the x-men legends/marvel alliance games. They are not bad games, per se, but I don't feel like I am playing a superhero. For me, that is the most important part of a superhero game. The hack n slash genre doesn't deliver this feeling at all.

MUA2 was utter shite. Hated that game so much. It was so watered down.
Back on topic... this game is a shame. Conceptually I love it. I was kinda psyched, because there was so much potential. Potential that, from everything I've found out, they completely ignored. I could have tolerated bad graphics, I've never been a graphics whore. But the gameplay and related factors being so bad? Nothing short of inexcusable. It's really a shame. |
Game's getting totally raped by reviewers.
Yeah, starting to feel bad for them.
I started to feel bad for them, then I saw some gameplay footage. This is about as close to a crime against humanity as a video game gets.
At least until Auchwitz Live!, my new XBLA title which will feature the deaths of real Jews with each achievement unlocked.

But not so much that I'd buy this game. |
It's kind of sad that IGN gave this game a better review than the new Spiderman game. I mean I haven't played either of them yet, but Shattered Dimensions got a much better review than Edge of Time, you wouldn't think it would drop off that much.
IGN's scores are meaningless.
You're probably right, but I just found it so odd that the developmental sequel fell so far off from its predecessor, especially when it doesn't look like a whole lot has changed.
Some of the comments I have heard of the new Spidey game have been well. They said the game is not much but its a noble effort.
yeah this game seems like it was designed to be awful. terrible ai. dudes run into walls, and continue running into walls after you've hit them. stuff doesn't interact well in the environment, usually your player with everything. pretty strange clipping. the story is its big quasi-redeeming feature, and even that is a little bit weak. huge disappointment.
