Wrestlemania is taking its talents to South Beach

Wrestlemania 28 is going to Miami. How do you feel about this? Anyone planning to go? I know its early, but a trip to Miami for Wrestlemania will be great for both the clubs and wrestling.

I wish it was coming to Indianapolis...Florida just had a Wrestlemania

James Steele 02-09-2011 02:29 AM

Where will it be held? Sun Life Stadium? Just asking for trouble to do another outdoor WrestleMania.

glanville6 02-09-2011 02:33 AM

tpww front page says the Miami Herald says so... PWInsider says more details to come...but since Sun Life holds 75 thousand, I'd say yeah.

MORE ON WRESTLEMANIA 28, PRESS CONFERENCE SET FOR LATER TODAY
by Mike Johnson @ 12:29 AM on 2/9/2011

World Wrestling Entertainment will officially announce that Wrestlemania 28 will be held at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida, according to The Miami Herald. Miami and Toronto had been the frontrunners in recent weeks, according to WWE sources.

Sun Life Stadium, home to the Miami Dolphins, is expected to house over 75,000 for the event.

I'm clicking, motherfucker.

Fignuts 02-09-2011 02:43 AM

Fuck.

Droford 02-09-2011 02:45 AM

i guess Edge isnt retiring then

James Steele 02-09-2011 02:45 AM

Damn it, I was hoping for The Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, Missouri so I could live with BDC for a week. :'(

Droford 02-09-2011 02:45 AM

Oh and The Rock in the HOF guaranteed

Lock Jaw 02-09-2011 02:47 AM

I like how for the past several years Toronto has been "rumored" and a "front-runner", but then never actually gets it. Not that it makes a difference to me one way or the other.

Evil Vito 02-09-2011 02:47 AM

Complete bullshit to have it in the same state 4 years apart when there are loads of other options.

Was hoping for Toronto so that I could go next year and finally check out another country. :(

Droford 02-09-2011 02:50 AM

I wonder if WWE could pull off a multi Venue WM again like 2? Certainly not like Large stadiums of course..

I'd imagine the production costs would just be way too high today because people would expect huge elaborate sets, insane pyrotechnics, etc.

Miami-Dade County has won the bid to host World Wrestling Entertainment’s super bowl WrestleMania 28 in the spring of 2012 at Sun Life Stadium, a week-long event which attracts fans from around the world.
In the three-year process, the area won the bid over other cities under consideration, such as Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York and Toronto.
At a Wednesday press conference in South Florida, officials will detail the weeklong list of activities planned culminating with the WWE WrestleMania 28 pay-per-view at Sun Life Stadium, home to the Miami Dolphins and five NFL Super Bowls. The stadium can seat more than 75,000.
Grammy Award Winner Emilio Estefan and other dignitaries are expected to be present during the press conference, as well as several poiiticians.
It will be the second WrestleMania in Florida and the third outdoors. In 2008, WrestleMania 24 was held at the outdoors Citrus Bowl in Orlando. That event set an attendance record for the stadium with 74,635 fans.
Last year, WrestleMania 26 set a University of Phoenix Stadium indoor attendance record, beating a U2 concert from 2009 by more than 20,000. Mania’s attendance was 72,219 with fans from 50 states and 26 countries - a common occurrence. The show grossed $5.8 million as well, becoming the highest grossing entertainment event ever at the stadium.
WrestleMania 26 also generated $45.1 million in economic impact for the greater Glendale/Phoenix area, according to a study conducted by the Enigma Research Corporation. The study said the show also garnered almost $5 million in local, state and county taxes. The economic impact derived from WrestleMania Week equated to the creation of 510 full-time jobs.
Those kinds of numbers are consistent to the host venue and area as WrestleMania Week is a financial gold mine, which is why many cities in North America bid annually for the extravaganza.
Miami had failed to lure the 2011 spectacular to South Florida, losing out to Atlanta. But WWE officials said the city was still on their radar when selecting the 2012 site because of its international ties, facilities, airports and experience hosting hundreds of other mega events.
Sun Life Stadium, home to the Miami Dolphins and five NFL Super Bowls, can seat more than 75,000; attendance records have been broken for venues servicing WrestleMania, a major international event televised to more than 100 countries.

The Ravishing One 02-09-2011 06:56 AM

Miami is tempting place to visit. But I agree they should really move it around abit more - lets have it in Seattle again, that was a great place to visit.

Team Sheep 02-09-2011 07:36 AM

Fuck yeah, Miami. I'm definitely going. Mania 24 outdoors looked incredible, and it's a great location. Love Miami.

Supreme Olajuwon 02-09-2011 08:05 AM

It's gonna rain.

Nicky Fives 02-09-2011 08:34 AM

I was hoping for Toronto..... at least we'll get to see Rock in the Hall Of Fame.....

TheChamp 02-09-2011 09:07 AM

Now all we need is Vinnie Mac doing an hour-long special with his buddy Bob Costas about him taking his talents to South Beach.

SlickyTrickyDamon 02-09-2011 09:15 AM

After New England wasn't included in the discussion the Griffins voice their displeasure only to be trumped by a Miami resident.

I hope the Marlins will be home...the Braves are on the road this season at Mania time.

Wrestlemania 24 was obviously a great success in a huge market. A pitch for Mania from the City of Miami has to be hard to pass up. I'm over the moon with this decision. 24 looked so spectacular, I promised myself I'd definitely go to the next outdoor Wrestlemania. Add the fact that I love Miami anyway, and is only a drive or a short flight away from Orlando, it's the perfect spot to make a long holiday out of.

The new Marlins stadium will have a dome, but it's happening at the much bigger Sun Life Stadium which has hosted many Super Bowls:

This gets even better. The next 3 years will be incredible. Miami, San Francisco, and (hopefully) MSG. 3 of my favourite cities. Fuck Atlanta, glad I'm not going now.

It's a beautiful place........ but what if it rains??

loopydate 02-09-2011 02:08 PM

Evening thunderstorms are pretty rare in early April here. Usually if it's going to rain it'll be about 3-4 in the afternoon then be clear by the evening.

During a "SuperShow" at MSG last June, John Cena was doing a promo and said WM 30 will, in fact, take place there. So I guess that's confirmed.

Team Sheep 02-09-2011 02:10 PM

Come rain or shine! Pretty awesome to be open to the elements. The ring will be covered so other than that, it's no different than it raining at a football game, you just get on with it.

Evil Vito 02-09-2011 02:25 PM

Wouldn't be a big deal if it rained unless it was windy (causing the rain to hit the ring) or if there was lightning. Imagine if WWE had to postpone its biggest show of the year?

Anyway - tempted to go. Kinda wanted to visit Toronto instead so I could check out Canada, but whatever.

loopydate 02-09-2011 02:28 PM

I'm driving the eight hours to Atlanta this year, so I think two to Miami shouldn't be that big of a deal :)

Evil Vito 02-09-2011 02:31 PM

I was going to just be content going to WM30 since I'd only need a ticket to the event - but since MSG holds so much less than all the other venues they've been using, tickets will sell out in 2 seconds and will cost a shitload from scalpers. Best not to put all of my eggs in one basket.

Team Sheep 02-09-2011 02:33 PM

So Wrestlemania in San Francisco would have to be at Candlestick Park I'm guessing? Two outdoor Manias in a row if that's the case.

Team Sheep 02-09-2011 02:44 PM

Or AT&T Park I guess.

Mr. Pierre 02-09-2011 03:48 PM

Yeah, Mania 24 looked amazing. They really did a great job. Would be awesome to go, but I'm gonna hang on for WM30. Like Vito said though, tickets are gonna be a bitch, but meh.

No pun intended, but this is beginning to be like the Super Bowl. Down south and in warm weather.

I'd like to see this back in the Northeast. :(

San Francisco is like 55 degrees all year round. No way they can do an outdoor show there.

Yeah trying to think of northern places to have it.

New York
Detroit
Indianapolis Seattle
Toronto
Milwaukee
St. Louis
Syracuse
Not Minnesota anymore

SlickyTrickyDamon 02-09-2011 05:06 PM

Boston.
Pittsburgh.
Philadelphia.
Montreal.

It never really gets too cold in San Francisco, so why not. I've been hearing SF for WM 29 for a while now, so there's obviously some truth to it, and apart from Candlestick Park, AT&T Park or McAfee Coliseum over in Oakland, where else can it be? No way would it be the Cow Palace.

James Steele 02-09-2011 06:27 PM

Well, my predictions have already gone awry. I got WM30 right at least. PLEASE LET WRESTLEMANIA XXXI BE IN COWBOYS STADIUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

Damian Rey 02-09-2011 06:50 PM

I could make the San Fran trip. A short flight from San Diego would be quite plausible, so that excites me.

5 Things That Will Happen during Wrestlemania XXVIII weekend in Miami

It’s official Miami will play host to Wrestlemania XXVIII next year. Here are 5 things we guarantee will happen during the weekend of the big show.

A heel will call out Lebron
‘King’ James vs ‘King’ Sheamus?

Camera phone hard drives will fill up with pix of Divas on South Beach
Imagine how much use you could get out of a snap shot of Maryse, Eve, Kelly Kelly, and the Bellas laying side by side, half naked and oiled up.

MVP will wrestle
‘Mania in Miami seems like a perfect opportunity for the 305 native to return. It’s good that he’s going to Japan to hone his skills, but he’s a guy with more to offer in WWE.

Sheamus will stay indoors or get horribly sunburned
The Miami sun is not to be fucked with, and the Celtic Warrior doesn’t appear to tan well.
John Cena will not go to a nightclub
Remember what happened last time? Not even super Cena can no sell two kidney stabbings. Actually he probably can.

Do you have any idea how absurd your post is? MVP is not a big enough draw to bring back for the sole purpose of getting booked in his hometown. The Divas are not going to be seen half naked and oiled up because that's not PG. Not to mention, who needs to go out of their way to see Maryse half naked when you can google her and see her full naked?

The event starts at 8, so the majority of the event will likely take place AT NIGHT, much like Mania 24, which means Sheamus will be fine.

bostonbill41 02-10-2011 09:52 AM

My experience in Arizona last year was mixed. I had a great time at the event but as far as actually seeing what was going on in the ring wasnt easy even being way back in the first level( my seat was way down by what would be considered the goal line for football. I understand wanting it in a huge domed stadium but for actually seeing the event without looking on the video boards was limited.

SlickyTrickyDamon 02-10-2011 10:33 AM

Thebladejob is assuming alot that the Bella Twins will still be hired in a 13 months. I don't see them lasting that long.

I got $250 tickets on the floor, there were a couple of times where you couldn't see anything but considering people just five rows ahead of me had payed $750, I was pretty pleased. It really depends what you're looking for. If you're in the tier, you sacrifice the interaction and the energy for a good view, and vice versa if you're on the floor (and not in the first few rows). Although the atmoshpere can suffer, being in a big stadium makes for a better spectacle, which is what WWE want in their highlight reels and is one of their selling points. I went to get a drink during the divas match and the view from the top of the stairs of the whole stadium was absolutely incredible.

Def going to rain

Damian Rey 02-10-2011 05:58 PM

I thought about making the 6 hour commute to Mania last year but didn't have the money by that point. I do know there were some fairly priced hard side tix available that seemed to have a pretty good view while not being too far.

Aguakate 02-10-2011 07:23 PM

WWE is lucky they haven't had an outdoor WrestleMania rained out.

If I was Vince McMahon, I wouldn't have WM be outdoors. It's just too risky.

Lock Jaw 02-10-2011 07:34 PM

Vince has a weather machine.

SlickyTrickyDamon 02-10-2011 07:41 PM

If it rains then they wrestle in the rain. A WrestleMania will not be rained out unless there is thunder and lighting right above the ring.

Lock Jaw 02-10-2011 07:45 PM

What if.... THERE'S A HURRICANE COMING THROUGH?!

Lock Jaw 02-10-2011 07:48 PM

I wouldn't be too sure.

WWE uses alot of pyro for entrances, plus the titantron, the lighting, the fans would get wet, I dont know...it would be a disaster.

CSL 02-10-2011 07:59 PM

http://www.wrsol.com/usatravelguide/...mania-xxiv.jpg

What do you think is one of the main points of that fuck off canopy over the ring? WWE aren't just going to book a show and have 'hope' as their backup plan when it comes to rain. Everything would still work and go ahead as planned. I doubt the very best and most expensive pyro, trons, lighting etc would be affected by water.

Lock Jaw 02-10-2011 08:01 PM

Yeah. They are for sure going to be prepared for the eventuality, and as long as they are prepared, there is no problem production-wise.

Team Sheep 02-10-2011 10:18 PM

People asking "what if it rains?" like that possibility has never crossed anyone's mind before...
