Smackdown Spoilers

* Rey Mysterio, Edge, John Morrison, R-Truth, Randy Orton and John Cena beat CM Punk, Sheamus, Dolph Ziggler, Wade Barrett, Kane and Drew McIntyre in the opener. The faces all hit their finishers and Edge pinned Ziggler for the win.

* Vickie Guerrero came out and said she will prove Edge assaulted Teddy Long and says Dolph's coronation as champion will be later tonight.

* Maryse and Layla vs. Eve Torres and Beth Phoenix is up next. McCool comes out limping with a cast on her right foot to do commentary. Maryse and Layla got the win after McCool interfered. She was selling the foot injury but definitely appeared to be legitimately injured.

* The Miz beats Kofi Kingston when Alberto Del Rio comes out and interferes.

* Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov beat Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater by DQ to retain the tag team titles. The Corre interfered to cause the DQ. Big Show came out and made the save.

* Teddy Long returned during the Dolph Ziggler World Title coronation ceremony. Teddy books Edge vs. Ziggler for the World Title now.

* Edge defeated Dolph Ziggler to become the "new" World Heavyweight Champion. Teddy fires Dolph after the match, leaving a spot open in the Elimination Chamber. Edge celebrated in the ring while confetti dropped and the crowd sang goodbye to Ziggler.

Whole lot of you're fired angles going on, kinda seems pointless to have put the belt on Zigggler just to pad Edge's title reign counts

Splaya 02-16-2011 01:15 AM

Which now begs the question, who gets the last spot in the EC for SD

Shadow 02-16-2011 01:16 AM

Wait...was Ziggler the one who attacked Long?

Also called Long returning tonight.

Fignuts 02-16-2011 01:21 AM

Most likely scenario is Dolph somehow gets rehired in time to take back his spot.

Isn't Evan Bourne ready to come back? He could go in.

What Would Kevin Do? 02-16-2011 01:47 AM

I could see Christian coming back...

glanville6 02-16-2011 01:52 AM

That show was packed for sure. I dont think Ziggy will be recognized as a champ though

Aguakate 02-16-2011 01:53 AM

I keep getting the feeling it'll be Mysterio vs Del Rio for the WHT at WM27.

EC is two days after this airs. Doubt they'd have time to 'rehire' him.

Backstage segments
Lucha mask
Just getting in the ring

All plausable ways to get Dolph back.

I always get Jack Swagger and Dolph Ziggler confused.

But after checking before I know now that Ziggler is ok and Swagger looks like a fucking retard and I can't stand him. Not in a "good heel" way, too.

More than likely one of these 2 scenarios. Or Taker takes his place?

Supreme Olajuwon 02-16-2011 07:16 AM

Doubt it's Taker since it makes the 2/21/11 stuff meaningless.

Supreme Olajuwon 02-16-2011 07:17 AM

I would say the replacement would be Big Show, but they seem really intent on not putting him in main events these days.

Supreme Olajuwon 02-16-2011 07:19 AM

So did they not announce Del Rio/Kofi for the PPV? Only got 3 matches so far and these two could put on a show.

I'd expect Long to add it to the card at the PPV, or they "announce it" Friday or it just shows up on the final card before the PPV.

Christian taking Ziggler's place would be nice, but I doubt it'll be him. Maybe they'll throw Masters in there for shits and giggles?

Jordan 02-16-2011 07:38 AM

Triple H/Del Rio @ Mania, book it.

Mr. Nerfect 02-16-2011 07:57 AM

It'd be pretty awesome if it were Triple H, since no one has really considered him going to SmackDown!. This is obviously just a way to get people guessing about the PPV and increase sales. The whole storyline sounds awesome -- ESPECIALLY if Ziggler is officially regarded as a former World Heavyweight Champion. Keep in mind that the draft is coming up, so Ziggler could get a gig on RAW, and get drafted back to SmackDown! after Money in the Bank has been and gone. Or he could win MITB and return to SmackDown!.

Christian is probably the best surprise that won't blow any big Mania plans.

IDK, the way Triple H was written off RAW for all this time, saying that it was because of Sheamus attacking him, makes it almost MANDATORY that he comes back and seeks revenge.

GD 02-16-2011 10:35 AM

Does this make Edge an 11 time Heavyweight Champion?

It's definitely possible, but I think he most likely will face Cody Rhodes at Wrestlemania.

Wolfpack423 02-16-2011 11:53 AM

Watch them put Del Rio in the Chamber and he'll win it at EC rather than Mania, though I would rather see him face Kofi. Christian returning would be awesome. They wouldn't let him win, but it would be cool to see him back.

Hey! Lets add another title reign to Edge's stats!

Hate it when they do this.

Says in the more detailed spoilers that Teddy Long did award him the WHC then ordered him to defend it straight away vs Edge.

Shortest 1st reign ever?

glanville6 02-16-2011 02:38 PM

Ha, if he IS recognized as a former WWE champion...its almost not worth it. When Kane had his 1 day reign, at least he got to fight for it. I wouldnt even call myself na former champ, and I don't think he will be recognized as a former champion

Where is Tarver? Seemed like he would be doing something for a few weeks but hes disappeared just as quickly.

Ziggler's title reign probably won't be officially recognised, but he can still go around bragging about how he was world champion for some cheap heel heat.

Jordan 02-16-2011 03:24 PM

Smackdown! is so boring with Edge as the champion.

Lock Jaw 02-16-2011 03:27 PM

Tarver was on RAW.

Wonder if the image of Ziggler with the world title will become as infamous as Brian Kendrick: Interim WWE Champion

Ruien 02-16-2011 03:58 PM

Vickie and Teddie will make a agreement to rehire Dolph and Kelly, making both sides happy.

No offense, but unless you don't watch very often, how is that possible?
  • Swagger is considerably bigger than Ziggler and it shows. Swagger is 263 lbs. to Dolph's like, 227 or something.
  • Swagger shows up wearing full-length U.S.-patriotic style tights; Ziggler wears black half-tights/shorts with "DZ" in white on the reverse, with the Z reversed or "backwards", and occasionally (not as much any more) a black vest when going to the ring.
  • Ziggler's hair is (I believe, bleached) blonde whereas I believe Swagger has brown hair.
Again, maybe you don't watch that often, if so, my apologies. But if you do I ask once again, how can you possibly confuse the two? They are about as much opposite each other as can be save for the fact that they both portray heels.

DAMN iNATOR 02-16-2011 05:09 PM

Also, this whole Dolph being fired thing really stinks, kayfabe or not. Maybe we'll get to see a similar scenario play out to 2006 where a singles match for the World Heavyweight Championship @ WM 22 (Angle v. Orton) was turned into a triple threat (Angle v. Orton v. Rey). Just have Teddy do a "week-by-week" investigation or something, promising to find out who the culprit was who attacked him before WM XXVII, and also promise not to "let the World Heavyweight Championship match at WM XXVII be tainted or ruined by controversy", and have him come up with no conclusive evidence, and therefore since Dolph never had a fair shot at keeping "his" world title shot have SD! Consultant Vickie Guerrero add Dolph at the last second making the WM XXVII WHC match a triple threat (Del Rio v. Edge v. Ziggler).

No, but seriously, thanks and all, but...

Exhibit A:

Dolph Ziggler (fig. 1, above)

Exhibit B:

Jack Swagger (fig. 2, above)

So besides the hair color, which I now admit I was wrong about, tell me how they can be easily mixed up, Especially given (and I forgot to point it out before, sorry) Dolph's perfect smile as opposed to Swagger's Jimmy Carter's retarded son with horse teeth smile.

As a wise and famous lawyer once said, IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE!

I really do hope they consider Dolph Ziggler a former World Heavyweight Champion. If that is the case, then it shows that the WWE have been impressed by his trial run to at least give him that novelty. I can see it leading to an angle where Ziggler has to "prove himself," which should lead to some pretty exciting matches.

Also, Ziggler claiming to be a former World Champion is a heat machine.

GD 02-17-2011 12:38 PM

Fuck Wiki.

WWE.com confirms it!!

http://www.wwe.com/inside/titlehisto...ldheavyweight/

Mr. Nerfect 02-19-2011 10:20 AM

It's official! Dolph Ziggler is a former World Heavyweight Champion!

I'm thinking that Dolph might take R-Truth out of the Elimination Chamber and take his place in that match on RAW. The RAW Chamber has four faces in it, so taking out the one with the least momentum, approaching 40 and was jobbed out to a rookie this week on NXT, and replaces him with a rising heel who is not yet 31, is the former World Heavyweight Champion, and can actually wrestle in Canada.

Evil Vito 02-19-2011 03:46 PM

<font color=goldenrod>Not only that, but Ziggler is now a Triple Crown winner.

Of course, what annoys me about the Triple Crown is that WWE.com says you have to have held the Tag belts, the IC belt, and either the WWE or World Heavyweight belts. The US Title doesn't count even though it's meant to be at the same level as the US Title.

The Miz, Big Show, and John Cena would all become Triple Crown champions if the rules were changed.</font>

XL 02-19-2011 08:48 PM

That's odd.

You can have either World Title but specifically the IC as your 2nd tier title. Strange.

Technically Andre The Giant's reign lasted about 30 seconds

Anybody Thrilla 02-19-2011 09:41 PM

For some reason, Diesel beating Bob Backlund in 8 seconds at a fucking house show just popped into my head. How ridiculous was it that they basically changed the title without any feud or build up, and Backlund didn't even come back for a shot at it?

Lara Emily 02-19-2011 09:42 PM

It was Backlund

Anybody Thrilla 02-19-2011 10:02 PM

I get that, but they still decided it would be a good idea to put the belt back on him. They could have at least written their way out of it.

Didn't Backlund win it from Bret? I'm sure I read/heard that Bret wouldn't drop to Diesel (or WWE didn't want Bret to do so) and that's why the title was switched.

Kinda like HHH's first reign, where Foley had to be the middle man as Austin wouldn't drop it directly to Hunter.

XL 02-20-2011 03:42 AM

As for the Triple Crown thing...

Would Dolph be considered a former Tag Champ? I mean, Nicky from the Spirit Squad was a tag champ but "Dolph Ziggler" wasn't.

Would WWE consider it a Triple Crown? Do you?

Mr. Nerfect 02-20-2011 08:42 AM

Dolph Ziggler's past as Nicky from The Spirit Squad and as the caddy of Chavo Guerrero has been noted by Matt Striker and Ziggler himself, despite Ziggler's perhaps being a sort of twist to "non-kayfabe" (I mean, on one hand he's playing the part of being fired, but on the other hand, he's mentioning things beyond a year ago).

I think the bigger question with the Triple Crown is whether or not Nicky is considered a World Tag Team Champion. Whilst The Spirit Squad defended the World Tag Team Championship together, Kenny & Mikey won the belts. Does the Freebird rule include everyone as champions, or do they just actively defend the belts?

It would also be interesting to point out that two of Ziggler's three championship "wins" would then come from matches that he didn't actually win. Technically, I guess you could argue that Dolph Ziggler defeated Edge via disqualification with a reversed decision, but WWE.com lists him as not beating anybody.

Mr. Nerfect 02-20-2011 08:44 AM

Also, as I have said before, I see Ziggler taking out R-Truth of the RAW Elimination Chamber, losing that, but then having problems with Truth that lead into this year's Money in the Bank Ladder Match.

XL 02-20-2011 11:48 AM

Whilst he may make reference to his past (in a tongue in cheek kinda way), it seems WWE.com doesn't consider him a former Tag Champ.

lol, this reminds me of when (I forgot who) attacked Kofi a year or two back when he was on his way to the chamber. Maybe they could switch it up and have him attack King Sheamus instead...ya know, white-on-(bright, glowing) white violence. :shifty:

Edge. He had lost the WWE title to HHH in the Smackdown EC match and took Kofi's place and won the Raw EC match. I would also provide dates and elimination records but I feel that was a fitting response to you anyway.
