JBL's last match.

FourFifty 02-19-2011 10:25 PM

Eddie, Benoit, realizing that it's fake, WCW or ECW's death, blah blah blah, etc etc. There, we got that out of the way.

I'll type mine out when I'm done eating.

Jura 02-19-2011 11:21 PM

Besides all the obvious ones I'd go with Mickie James not wearing skirts anymore.

FourFifty 02-19-2011 11:23 PM

Rob Van Dam winning the WWE title.

Allow me to explain- Growing up I was a fan of the WWF. Not WCW, not AWA, not WCCW, and not even the sport of professional wrestling. I was a WWF fan. Growing up as a Hulkamaniac I should have followed Hogan to WCW. No, I was too busy following what was going on with the WWF. I didn't have time for Hogan in another company. During the Monday Night Wars I watched very little WCW. I caught ECW when I could, but I didn't make it a point to see it. I've seen more Shotgun Saturday Night than WCW or ECW. I was a WWF fan, and now a WWE fan.

Now let's go forward to Rob Van Dam winning the WWE title from John Cena at One Night Stand. I almost cried. They were still trying to say ECW was its own company. So from a kayfabe standpoint this outsider won the title that I grew up with. The title that Buddy Rogers, Bret Hart, Steve Austin, HBK, Bruno Sammartino, Bob Backlund, and others won. They all fought for and defended the title that belonged to the company that Jess McMahon laid the foundation for.
Was it John Cena losing a title? Yea, but this was some reject from a bingo hall who couldn't hang in the major leagues winning the WWE/WWF/WWWF/CWC title. I was crushed.

So while all of you were cheering that John Cena lost the WWE title, I was almost in tears that someone from a bingo hall won the WWE title.

Jura 02-19-2011 11:28 PM

The Eagle belt being replaced by the spinner belt. Although I'm glad in a way because Cena and others don't have the privilege of holding it. The old belt was held by the wrestlers we grew up watching and the newer generation has this spinner belt so I'm fine with it actually.

Anybody Thrilla 02-19-2011 11:30 PM

So if you're happy with it is it still your saddest moment?

Jura 02-19-2011 11:36 PM

I changed my mind mid post. Mickie James not wearing skirts is still my saddest moment.

CSL 02-19-2011 11:38 PM

Also, definitely Owen. Was kind of 'de-sensitized' by the time Eddie died. Even now when I see the recap thing and JR talks about 'being half the man he was so he can see him again someday' it makes me go cold.

:wtf: really?

Fox 02-19-2011 11:43 PM

The Benoit incident. He was probably my favorite wrestler of all time and I truly looked up to him as someone who had overcome adversity due to his lack of physical size, charisma and "superstar appeal" that are generally needed to climb the ranks in the wrestling world. He was someone I believed stood as a role model not only for other wrestlers, but for anyone who had a dream and was willing to work their ass off and not listen to the haters and detractors who would try to bar them and stand in their way from accomplishing that dream. His win at WM20 is still one of my favorite moments of all time. When Triple H tapped out I lost it. When he hugged Eddie I almost shed tears myself.

The news about his murder/suicide was a majorly destructive moment in my wrestling loving life. I don't think I've ever enjoyed wrestling as much as I did before his incident, and I probably never will again.

Hey 450, you did know that RVD was still a WWE wrestler right? That he had been in the WWE busting his ass in the ring for five solid years? Just because you don't get what ECW was doesn't mean it was just a "bingo hall company."

Not really sad but kind of

Seeing the Road Warriors in WWE in 1998 as Vince turned them into a joke

exploiting Hawk's problems and turning his on air character into a drunk and THEN making him look like he fell off the titantron

These guys were fucking awesome in the 80's and it made kinda sad for them

plus they put Droz with them and later teamed Heidenreich as Hawk's replacement with Animal

Supreme Olajuwon 02-21-2011 07:38 AM

Brian Pillman's death. I wasn't following wrestling when Eddie and Benoit died so it was shocking but that emotional connection wasn't there. Owen's was awful too but I remember being pretty angry that they kept the show going. Pillman was one of my favorite wrestlers ever and he was a hometown guy so that added more to it. Plus his last image in the WWF was him wrestling in a dress. Ugh.

Well seeing as you didnt follow ALL wrestling, alot of the WWF "superstars" you grew up watching held THE NWA Heavyweight Championship..... AND guess wat.... in 1994 after Shane Douglas beat 2 Cold Scorpio... IT became the ECW World Title.... Let me give you the list of credible champions that have held the belt regardless of the name of the title\

Lou Thesz
Dick Hutton
Buddy Rogers
Pat O'Connor
Gene Kiniski
Harley Race
Dory Funk
Dusty Rhodes
Tommy Rich
Ric Flair (1981) Stop and look at the history of the NWA title before it split into regional factions
Jimmy Snuka (in the 90's)

So to call guys like Taz(one of the best wrestlers ever under 6 feet), RVD, even The Dudley's (They WORKED HARD TO GET WHERE THEY ARE) Dudes from the bingo hall is really insulting!!

Shisen Kopf 02-25-2011 06:26 AM
