Sin Cara, AKA....
Mistico.
WWE just put up this article about him. Any thoughts on the new name? Quote:

NXT Name Generator: Mexico Edition
|
His name is going to be "Sin Cara"?
(That's "Without a Face" in Spanish) |
"The guy is known by this name all over the world. Let's change it."
|
Looks like a Power Ranger.

This will be Mysterio's replacement, I guess.
|
I haven't seen pics of him, but judging by the one in the article, he doesn't seem to big an Alberto Del Rio-type Mexican Wrestler. He looks small.
|
Quote:
Apparently, his name change is to "represent all the legendary Mexican masked performers". Well, they all wear masks, so they don't have a face because of the masks. So "Sin Cara" it is then. |
Quote:
|
I like his tights, but his mask won't work in WWE. He needs a new one with the mouth open.
|
This obviously lead to Del Rio winning the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 27 and going on a huge dominant 2-year reign as they build up Sin Cara all the way to WrestleMania XXIX at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, Mexico in front of over 100,000 fans in which the great hero Sin Cara will finally defeat the evil Alberto Del Rio. Fireworks and streamers will fill the sky as the WWE ushers in a new era of purity and greatness. VIVA LA SIN CARA! VIVA LA RAZA!
|
This is gonna hurt Mistico badly. Look what happened to Dos Caras Jr.!

for all the hype about this guy, he better be good.....

If the Bellas bring him in for revenge on Daniel Bryan, that would be brilliant.

Never known a 'rookie' to be treated like such a big deal from the off. I mean a press conference?
Looks like he is going to be mega-pushed tbf. |
Quote:
|
Or just change his mask and claim that he is Rey Mysterio who has "been through an ordeal and come out changed".
|
CM Punk is cutting a promo in the ring. Song plays…pyro, Sin Cara comes from the floor (similar to Gangrel). Punk goes nuts. He can’t believe it’s HIM. Sin Cara walks calm and cool…stares at him. Punk, in shock, runs.
I can dream. Of course it won’t happen, but it could work. |

I like this. The name change makes sense. He's representing all masked luchadors, so it's a name about masks -- how they take away the face. The way the WWE are making a big deal out of this signing makes me think he's going to get a big push out the gate. Post-WrestleMania, I'd expect Rey Mysterio & Sin Cara to win the WWE Tag Team Championship from whoever the champs are.
The WWE is apparently doing huge in Mexico, and bringing in Mistico and pushing him to the moon is not going to hurt matters. Alberto Del Rio vs. Sin Cara, in some ways, might be one of the biggest matches the WWE could run. |
What's with the faggy mask?
|
So Rey is leaving and we get his clone?
At least he dresses up as Spiderman. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_yQ56Qunpr6...011mistico.JPG |
That's pretty sweet.
|
He looks like he's the best dirty little spot monkey I've ever seen in the highlight reel video up there.
|
First of all, I totally support this choice as Mistico is obviously a huge deal in Mexico and I want WWE to get bigger and bigger. Second of all the name Sin Cara is MUCH better than Mistico in my opinion. Plus Mistico/Mysterio is a little similar. Sin Cara is a pretty sick name. This guy looks like he will be a lighting bolt for WWE, Sin Cara vs Rey Mysterio might be the next Eddie/Rey at Halloween Havoc at some point down the line.
|
And stop ragging on the mask, it fucking rocks.
|
I've never seen a wrestler perform such casual acrobatics, he makes it look completely effortless. Brilliant.

I’ve been wanting another masked guy for quite some time now, be it a type like Sin Cara or another monster like Kane used to be, so needless to say, even on that aspect alone, this is pleasing to me. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a vignette air at WrestleMania.
|
I'm excited, dude looks great
|
The more I watch this better it looks, I'm loving the way he can perform a Hurricanrana but land on his feet.

I imagine it might be harder to breathe in a mask like this.
|
Destor would be able to tell us.
That being said, I'm not impressed in the slightest with all those planchas and hurricanranas, means nothing unless he can run against the ropes for at least an hour. |

After watching that video, I'll be surprised if he lasts a year.
Calling it here. He will be gone by Survivor Series. |

I am really impressed by his modified Hurricanranas. I was pretty sure he was going for a Enzuigiri each time. Already thinking of JoMo and him in a match.. Isnt Tyler Black an aerialist as well? |
Was the name change just a WWE decision, or because CMLL, AAA or whoever he worked for owns the name Mistico?
Probably should find that out before you guys go "BAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWW WWE suckcers for changing name BAAAAWWWWWWW" |
Also, like it even fucking matters. 95% of WWE's fanbase doesn't have a fucking clue who Mistico is.
Granted, I like the name Mistico better, but it still doesn't bother me that they changed it. |
A lot of his moves look more polished and fluid than even 90's mysterio. Very impressed with what I've seen so far.
I don't care if he can talk. He's obviously being brought in to fill in Mysterio's role in the roster, and it's not like Mysterio ever got over on his mic work. |
As for where I’d put Sin Cara, as I said earlier, I’d intentionally distance him from Rey Mysterio, so put him on RAW.

I assume the name change comes because its something WWE can own so that should he become a huge star, he can't bounce and use the name "Sin Cara"
|
They should do an angle where Sin Cara joins Batman Incorporated.

I, too, mark out for the hurricanrana where Cara just lands on his feet like "Yeah, what of it?" I didn't get too excited by the spotty video. There are plenty of guys who can do that shit. What I will be looking at is his ability to tell a story in the ring. The WWE is apparently skipping him past developmental. There must be some plan on exactly how to use him. But what it will come down to is how great his overall matches are. At the top level, anyway.
I have a feeling that Sin Cara might be bogged down by the same problems that weigh down Mysterio in some people's minds. Cara might end up only as good as his feud. If he's just flying around aimlessly, people might be inclined to overlook his talent. I'm looking forward to seeing Sin Cara work with Rey Mysterio, Cody Rhodes, Alberto Del Rio and John Morrison, though. |
Glad they didn't change the mask too much, as I've always liked the mystico mask. It is something different in a sea of generic lucha masks.

The WWE and the way they push talent has changed a lot since then.
|
Yeah, and besides, they did push Taka pretty damn well, during his initial run.
|
I was sure this was the guy 'Epico' on the FCW page for a second there.

I still wish the WWE would bring it Los Aviadores as a tag team. They work well together, are two masked guys that could get over, and there are instant merchandise opportunities with them. But then you have the problem of over-saturation. Is having four masked guys on the active roster too much?

Mankind mask > Lucha masks

I dunno, sounds like he's getting the Del Rio treatment, only as the heir to Mysterio's baby-face role.

I agree with almost everything you say, however, this, I don't agree with. He is arguably the most popular star in Mexico. PPV buys from this country could double. If this is the case (See: Khali) he isn't going to be going anywhere. |
I wanna see him debut in the Money in the Bank match at Wrestlemania.
|
According to reports on Rajah, he’s expected to be on SmackDown. I’m hoping Sin Cara goes to RAW.
|
To those disputing my claims of him going no where, I give you but one piece of evidence:

Unlike in the past where the WWE only had Mysterio as their main luchadore or Hispanic wrestler, this time they now have a good heel and potentially a good face as a way to sell to Hispanic viewers. So if Sin Cara or Del Rio gets hurt or needs time off, they have the other to push and don't need to worry about loosing that group of viewers. |
I’d love to see Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara in a match together. A Mask vs. Mask Match would be an interesting passing of the torch/retirement match for Mysterio if that’s how he retired. I’d love to see that happen.
|
I loved Mistico's matches in Mexico and in Japan. He is totally badass. I also liked how he kept his design, albeit different colors and tweakage.
I agree with Rated R. I would also love to see that "passing of the torch" between Rey Mysterio, Jr. and Mistico, if Rey does retire. |
That's your least pretentious post yet, DL. Although I think we all get that Mistico has worked in Mexico.

Last I saw the WWE ratings almost doubled the big promotions in Mexico but I don't think there has ever been a report that showed how many ppv buys come from Mexico itself.
It can't be anything huge or else it would have been in one of those WWE "Did You Know" stats they show on tv by now. |
I never heard of him, is he like another Rey or what?
|
Only better.
Mistico is... 13-year veteran (wrestled since 4/30/98) 28 years of age (born 12/22/82) Extensive experience overseas (in China and in Japan) His finisher, La Mistica, is a Headscissors takedown-turned-single arm DDT-turned-Wakigatame Undefeated in wager matches. |
Cool, hopefully they use him properly.

Hope he stays on Superstars and is never on Raw.
|
I still maintain that it will not be that easy for him to "get over" with fans, much less take over when Rey Mysterio is gone.
I've never seen him wrestle, so I don't know about his ability, but fans don't usually see the "Mexican Luchador" as a Main Eventer. |
It's like seeing a fresh, rejuvenated Mysterio in his prime!! I am very impressed! He doesn't just look like a dirty spot money to me although that made me smile he appears to bring much more than that to the table unlike most wrestlers I see on Youtube.
To me Mistico looks like he's a big fish that's become too large for the Mexican wrestling pond he appears to be very talented, gives his all in every match (that I have seen) and comes across as being very ambitious. His dream like many others in Mexico now is to make it to the WWE how times have changed. Guerrero and Mysterio have paved the way for wrestlers like Mistico and it's good to see. I think the guy will do well he looks like a great performer, I really think he'll be a main eventer within 2-3 months. This guy is going to get the Del Rio treatment mark my words this is going to be a big deal not another Ultimo Dragon that's for sure. Although hey I will give Ultimo Dragon credit he could go in the ring but they never treat him like a big deal or main eventer in my eyes. I really can't wait to see this guy in high profile one on one matches with the likes of Del Rio, Mysterio, Swagger, Punk, Danielson and Edge. I really think those wrestlers will bring the best out of Mistico. Can Mistico work with the big guys such as Taker, Kane and Big Show? That remains to be seen. Mysterio has good matches with Taker and Kane but they are never jaw droppingly good they are usually just above average compared to Mysterios usual opponents. Can't wait to see the guy go at an event like Wrestlemania giving his absolute best. I think he will become a one man highlight reel if they let him go. Good luck to him. |
That name change, though...
I can't stop thinking of the theme of "Atop The 4th Wall" "... Sin Caraaaaa! This. Comic. Sucks! SIN CAAARRRAAAA!" |
I can stop thinking of it because Linkara sucks and I don't watch him.
|
Quote:
There's been one luchador pushed to the main event: Mysterio. He got over with fans. WWE caters to younger kids who like bright colours and cool moves. He'll get over fine if given the opportunity. And given the fed's treatment of him before he's even debuted, I'm guessing he'll be pushed to at least IC title level right away. I don't think we're looking at another Essa Rios here. Yet. |
Quote:
More so than ever, I am kind of hoping that he shows up on RAW. He'd stand out more there, as opposed to seeming like "Rey Mysterio II" on SmackDown!. On the other brand, it sets up Sin Cara as almost a parallel to Rey, which can fuel "dream match" ideas in people's heads. Plus, there is no shortage of people for Sin Cara to defeat en route to building him up. Matches with Primo, Zack Ryder and Tyson Kidd (probably in that order), would not only deliver, but could get Sin Cara' offense over quite nicely. A match against Regal may not be as pretty, but would certainly be interesting, and would test the waters for how well Cara can work different styles in the WWE. And to be honest, if he's going to feud with a main eventer out the gate, why not have it be CM Punk? He's the smallest of the WWE's top-level heels, and he can work an amazing match and do the talking for two men in a feud. Del Rio vs. Sin Cara is obviously going to happen, but why blow that out the gate? Seeing Cara build up victories against yours David Otungas, Mason Ryans and Michael McGillicuttys could also be impressive, too. Teaming with Randy Orton would instantly get him over, as well. Not as a permanent team, of course -- just in one of those weird RAW duo matches to combine storylines. During that feud, you can also do Daniel Bryan vs. Sin Cara for the US Title, which ends when the Nexus attacks both men. That can set-up a big PPV tag team match between Orton, Bryan, Cara and someone else against CM Punk and his Nexus. In that environment, I think Cara would really shine. I could see Dolph Ziggler & Vickie Guerrero showing up on RAW at any moment, too, and Sin Cara vs. Dolph Ziggler would be insanely fun. Also, assuming they do the draft again (and why wouldn't they?), I'm not entirely unconvinced that Alberto Del Rio won't end up on RAW. The WWE treats him as a pretty big deal, and pretty big deals in the WWE usually go to RAW sooner rather than later. |

This could be an interesting angle for Sin Cara’s debut, with the anonymous RAW General Manager and Theodore Long trying to woo him. |
How can a laptop woo someone?
