Failed Wrestlers That WCW Kept Trying to Push
Thought we'd do a spinoff of the WWE thread
I will start off with Disco Inferno http://www.onlineworldofwrestling.co...inferno/10.jpg |
http://www.thrashhits.com/wpress/wp-...03/placebo.jpg
Placebo is a horrible, horrible band. And I loved Disco Inferno. :( |

but I guess I can see why you don't like it you're more of an 80's rock guy |
What about Disco Inferno?
He was great. |
When did they ever try to "push" Disco Inferno. If anything he wasn't pushed enough.
Honestly Disco is probably top 10 in my fav wrestlers of all time. |
I'd say Shane Douglas
I think Shane would be long forgotten if he never went to ECW as even the fans hated him when he tagged with Johnny Ace as The Dynamic Dudes and then of course in 99-00 http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_EZpmvgci2l...amic_dudes.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_2-7AdSkZA7...Bwrestling.jpg |

I love disco and I've just watched Shane Douglas and Kendall Windhak put on a classic on Nitro.
Again, Shane wasn't pushed enough. He was the best talker in The Revolution and could go. |
Probably half of NWO Hollywood

How about when they kept repackaging "Glacier"

That has to be one of the worst Titantrons I've ever seen.

Buff Bagwell
|
Road Warrior Animal
David Flair Hugh Morrus The Nasty Boys They did far more than they should have with Steve McMichael |
Ernest "The Cat" Miller
David Flair |
I guess Vince Russo too, considering he got a title run and was in feuds with Goldberg & Hogan.
|
Boobies

I just called my mama and she said The Cat really sucked when he was made Commissioner and before that he was one trick pony, though I do not doubt that he could "whoop e'r'ybody in here".

Why are you ragging on Disco Inferno and Shane Douglas?
WCW didn't even push either very much either. |
i've always hated jeff jarrett. and the fact he was pushed to the moon during wcw's dying years doesn't help
|

Can't believe I'm the first person to say Lex Luger and Kevin Sullivan.
Luger to his credit was over as fuck and had the look, but god damn he was terrible at everything. Basically he had a forearm and the torture rack (which was awesome), and that was it. But Kevin Sullivan, jesus christ. He was the worst. Might be my least favorite wrestler ever. |

One of these things is not like the others. One of these things just doesn't belong. |
The Disciple
|
Wasn't really watching Nitro when Sullivan was there so can't comment, but jesus yeah, Luger.
Also Warrior, purely because he'd just checked out mentally by that point. |

The Wall

I'd without a doubt say these two guys, big as fuck but boring in the ring imo
http://i.ytimg.com/vi/msXjP4iPNm0/0.jpg Worst 50 wcw gimmicks ever, you'll find a lot of the same guys listed in this thread on there: http://www.bedofnailz.com/wcw.html |
The crowd liked Kronik so it might be a bit unfair to say they were "failed" wrestlers. If anything WCW failed with their push of Bryan Clark/Wrath during the period before he became part of the Kronik team.
Even though they were not really wrestlers, the majority of the celebrity "wrestlers" WCW hired and pushed. Huge waste of money that didn't benefit WCW, especially with Master P and his group. |
yeah i liked the west tex rednecks. master p killed that though

Who are any of you to doubt the Village People's elbow?

I meant failed in terms of ring work, my bad. |

Rick Stiner as a singles wrestler
Stevie Ray and his fucking slapjack Hugh Morrus, thought it was funny though how after he won the u.s title (as Cpt. Rection) they had Goldberg congratulating him on the tron but Goldberg kept calling him Hugh Morrus, just another in the long line of WCW fuck up's I guess. |
I think the term "failed wrestlers" might be unfair to some. I believe in most cases, it's either "failed gimmicks" or "failed face/tweener/heel turns" or "failed singles/tag team runs."
|
"The Big Wiggle" Norman Smiley
|
Sid Vicious, Scott Steiner, Vampiro, Jarrett, Tank Abbot, Kidman, The Wall, David Flair, Vince Russo, Glacier, "Buff" Bagwell, Bret Hart
|
Wait what? Bret Hart :wtf:
Are you fucking serious? |
Well, WCW dropped the ball on Bret since he joined. It wasn't Bret's fault.

The fans didn't care about Bret, everyone of his pushes was "meh". No one bought a PPV because of Bret Hart in WCW.
|
He didn't have like any real pushes, until like Mayhem in 1999 come on. WCW didn't even really try and push Bret Hart
|
He held the WCW World Title Twice. I don't know how much more of a push you can give someone.
|
yeah he won it twice in Nov 1999 and then in Dec 1999 after that awful riff on the Montreal screwjob at Starrcade he won it again in that awfully booked finish where he joined the nWo. He won the belt twice in the last 3 months of his WCW career come on.
I don't see how that's a big push. Or hell if you think it is, then I don't see how bad booking makes him a failed wrestler. |
gotta mention Erik Watts
He was awful and he got pushed to the moon when his daddy was running WCW as the president Erik even came back around 1999 <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/FEeWrGo3ZNY?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

I would have agreed with Sid had I not just watched how awesome he was in 1999. The guy is a heat machine in this period too. |
Sid is a BAMF and I don't care that he sucks. He hails from anywhere he damn well pleases.
|
How this man isn't in the main event still now is beyond me.

To whoever said Kevin Sullivan:
Fuck off. Kevin Sullivan was great as the leader of the Varsity Club and the Slaughterhouse (with Buzz Sawyer and a young Cactus Jack). His feud with "the collective delusion" was incredibly real (because let's face it, he booked his own divorce), and it was a nasty feud and got Benoit over. The Dungeon of Doom itself sucked donkey balls, but I don't blame that on Sullivan. Beyond that, you can't tell me that Sullivan's Army of Darkness in Florida DIDN'T inspire the Ministry of Darkness. |
What does Florida have to do with WCW?
|
Dale Torborg was supposed to be a big deal, but he turned out like Erik Watts.
|
Alex Wright had momentum in the mid nighties, could have been WCW's HBK to an extent, but somebody wanted to hold him down and feature Hogan instead.

The Sid love in this thread is making me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Quote:
Army of Darkness was Florida (The original unholy stable. Seriously, Sullivan's gimmick was that of a Satanist). |
Exactly. And the Army of Darkness has nothing to do with this topic.
|
disco was badass tho
|
Quote:
Sullivan was terrible. Possibly the worst wrestler of all time. |
Ron Simmons. His World Title run was a mess. It was basically Bill Watts trying to recreate the success he had with the JYD. Problem was Simmons was pretty boring and not over.
Ronnie Garvin is another. Oh and Disco Inferno is amazing. Boogie Knights along with Tokyo Magnum was comedy gold. |
Quote:
And Disco Inferno was awesome. |
Quote:
Apart from the Dungeon of Doom (much of which WAS an abomination filled with Hogan's friends), he never worked a main event program in WCW. He knew his limitations. I will not and have not put him on par with a Ric Flair as far as important characters. But he HAS helped the people he worked with get over (again, a young Cactus Jack comes to mind. As does Rick Steiner.). He was a niche performer and he filled his niche. Again, El Gigante was horrible. Bill Kazmier was horrible. Buff Bagwell can suck a barrel of cock. Kidman wasn't worth going over hogan. |
