Who do you think had the best debut in WWE history?
Chris Jericho? Brock Lesnar?
Also, I noticed some guy have huge debuts only to fizzle out down the line (ie. Brock Lesnar). Then there's guys like The Rock who kinda just blends in, has a humble beginning and after many years becomes a bonafied superstar. Same goes for Stone Cold Steve Austin. Jericho kinda falls in between. He always had his start in WCW, but he had that huge debut in WWE. Which way do you think is best? |
Lesnar's was pretty sweet. Fucking destroyed Al Snow, Maven and Spike Dudley. Plus he had Heyman with him.
|
RVD and Tommy Dreamer!
|
Lesnar didn't fizzle out, he left.
|
Anyways, I am a fan of the way Kurt Angle debuted. Started off in that "small" kind of way, but blossomed almost immediately.
|
Yeah, I was gonna say that Lesnar hardly fizzled out.
For my money though, Jericho's WWF debut may not ever be topped. |
Jericho's WWE debut was pretty awesome. The whole "countdown to the millennium" thing that they played for weeks, the huge pyro, him interrupting The Rock. It all made for a cool moment.
Chyna actually had a great debut. I was a fan of Goldust at the time, and during a match with HHH, this huge scary woman comes out from the crowd, grabs Marlena in a bear hug, and shakes her like a rag doll. Definitely a WTF moment, especially given I was just a kid and had never seen a woman like that. My all time favorite debut though was in WCW. Hall and Nash's debut as The Outsiders. The invasion angle was awesome with them just showing up, crashing Nitro, and beating up everyone they came in contact with. The whole thing leading up to the nWo was wicked. Probably one of the best pay offs of any debut. |
Cena's debut sucked donkey nuts. It's not about hating on Cena, it's just that it was stupid as fuck.
"I'll fight you." "And who the fuck are you?" "I'm John Cena!" |
Gangrel.
|
Kane
|
Jericho. He had a pretty long build-up due to the clock unlike most debut videos and setup and going against The Rock in a verbal war was good.
Tazz was also another good debut with the timing of it being in MSG and Kurt Angle setting up the whole encounter with his promo before the match. It probably doesn't count but The Rock coming back initially from filming as Hollywood Rock was another good one. |
I was just going to talk about Tazz's debut as well. As Smelly says, the place & time were perfect, and the opponent was equally strong.
My favourites tho would have to be Y2J's Millennium Man debut, and Kane's epic debut. |
Shockmaster:shifty:
Always loved Kanes, thought it was the perfect setup. Angles in TNA as well. |
Carlito.
He beat John Cena and won the US Title in his first match. |
Quote:
Gail Kim. Same thing angle, different title. |
Well, Christian won the Light Heavyweight Title on his debut. By far the most prestigious.
|
Now why hasn't anyone mentioned The Undertaker? I mean having to face a mystery partner is bad enough but to see this huge bloke walking towards you I would be like fu**ing hell / holy sh*t!
Coupled with that the whole longevity of the character...I'm not saying it was the best debut in terms of the 1 night he had...but the impact he made at the time and just about still around today..he's definately up there. Kane is close second. |
Jericho is unbeatable in this contest.
|
Chris Jericho.
|
I quite liked The Radicalz debut in WWF. But yeah Jerichos is gonna take some beating. Even his return was pretty good, although with less impact than the debut.

"what is it?" LOL |
jericho's debut still makes me mark out. definitely that.
|
Jericho has to come in first place. But second?
Chyna had a pretty good debut. She just grabbed Terri from the outside and shook her like a rag doll. Gigantic Chyna and tiny Terri, it looked great. Left everyone wondering, "Who the hell is this?" RVD and Tommy Dreamer was great, with the rebirth of ECW. While a few might have seen the ECW swerve coming, nobody expected them to jump in. Undertaker had a fantastic debut. Came in as a mystery partner in the Survivor Series. A huge, lean, scary looking guy who just demolished the opposing team. I don't know if you'd count it, but 1-2-3 Kid winning his job match against Razor Ramon immediately pushed him to the moon. |
Y2J Chris Jericho hands down.
|
Jericho with the Millenium Countdown and interrupting the Rock.
I also have to mention Kane as well. The hype with Paul Bearer telling the Undertaker that his brother is coming to his debut and ripping the door of the cell and tombstoning Taker |

Dude yeah. That Steiner Debut was sick. Perfect place and time.
Sadly he "Fizzled" out and had reached critical mass. |
I fucking loved late WCW Steiner.
Butt Sucking Bastard. |
Chris Jericho's debut was awesome. I do not believe anything can top that.
|
Kane or Jericho.....
|
Seeing all the people loving the Jericho debut, I decided watch it again. What a pop when the "J E R I C H O" came across the tron.

What is your damage? |
We had a man who could entertain us, was good enough for us, could make us jump up off our chairs, raise our filthy fat little hands in the air and scream GO JERICHO GO, GO JERICHO GO, GO JERICHO GO. so yeah, Y2J wins

why did you say "big poppa boner"?
Thats what I was asking. I don't think I needed to make it any clearer. |
Matt Hardy's second run was pretty neat. When the whole Edge/Lita/Matt Hardy love triangle blown up, came out of the crowd for a couple Raws to beat the shit out of Edge and all this security came down. Then Vince brought him back.
.....yeah. |

That Jericho debut was pretty awesome but I think they let Rock talk too much. But it was the first time I'd seen "it doesn't matter," yada yada, which back then, was fresh/funny.
There is a YouTube comment where someone states that John Cena disliked the vid because Jericho was talking about saving the WWE from him in the new millenium. lol. If only that were booked like that. I have to go with Undertaker. Probably because I was young enough to be scared of the dude. |
Chris Jericho's debut was awesome, but The Rock ruined it for me.
|
Yeah, I loved Jericho's debut, except for the fact he eventually got brought down by The Rock. I know The Rock was a face and Jericho was a heel, but still, I wanted Jericho to own The Rock or something, Dunno.
|
This was a pretty good debut, if you ask me:
<iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/YEY4DJs6II0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Well, apparently Aguakate said the same thing, except he used less words.
|
poppa boner
|
Hall and Nash in WCW
Tazz in WWE Chris Jericho in WWE Kane in WWE The Radicalz in WWE |
Big Show's debut was pretty incredible at the time, tbh. It's easy to overlook now
|
Some debuts...man, in 2001 the crowd would pop for practically anything! Great times.

Chris Jericho is my winner though :y:

Was 2 months before they even mentioned his name, 3 months before he wrestled a match etc. So good. |
The Undertakers debut was pretty sick because back then something like that wasn't as expected or crazy, but having Taker show up on Dibiase's team was great.
|
Jericho. When a debut makes you one of the most over guys in the roster. You know that its awesome. Something the WWE is lacking these days.
|
Chris Jericho.
|
Does anybody think that without another Major player in Pro Wrestling where guys can jump ship that we will ever see a huge debut again? Nowadays when there's a debut the crowd is dead silent because nobody knows who the hell the new guy is.

Semi-relevant answer but when ECW 'debuted' in 2005 before the One Night Stand PPV, that was sick.
Normal debut, I'd say Kane. It perfectly established him exactly as they wanted to. He had the Undertaker's name to ensure he'd instantly be taken seriously, he then wrecked shit up and looked like an absolute monster. Show's with the cage thing was similar too. |
<iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/uYkcXzpvhlM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
<iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/j249kqOsWTM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Rick Rude had a couple of pretty awesome debuts in WCW. I believe up until the last Nitro, he was the only person to appear on both flagship shows in the same night. |
Fuck man, that Tazz debut video.
LISTEN to the crowd, the 'We want Tazz' chants, then an unbelievable pop as his music hits, and then the ECW chants. And this was before internet was super-popular/Tazz wouldn't have even been a household name. Fuck, I miss the crowds of the attitude era. Difference maker is an understatement, in my opinion anyway. |
