WWE SmackDown! Spoilers for 05/06/11

From PWInsider:

*World champion Christian comes out and talks about winning the title at Extreme Rules. Mark Henry and Great Khali come out and demand title shots. Randy Orton then comes out and says he wants a shot too. Teddy Long comes out and says that he will let the fans decide and the fans pick Orton. Long announces Christian vs. Orton for the title tonight.

*Backstage, Khali and Ranjin Singh run into Jinder Mahal, who says that it was interesting Singh let Khali dress up in a tutu on Raw.

*Sheamus defeated Daniel Bryan in a good match.

*Backstage, the Divas approach Layla and thank her for getting rid of Michelle McCool but tell her that they haven't forgotten how she treated them. Layla says Lay-Cool is officially over and everyone is going to see a new side of her.

*Cody Rhodes comes out and discusses his match at the Extreme Rules PPV. He has bags handed out to make the crowd wear them on his head.

*Ezekiel Jackson defeated The Big Show.

*Layla defeated Alicia Fox. Kharma comes out. Layla backs away. Fox kicks her. She tries to kick Kharma again but instead eats a clothesline. Kharma nailed her with the Implant Buster. The crowd chants for another. She teases it but leaves.

*The Corre attacked Ezekiel Jackson and laid him out backstage, saying that he couldn't just leave them.

*Sin Cara defeated Tyson Kidd. Chavo Guerrero was on commentary. Chavo shakes Cara's hand after the match.

*Backstage, Todd Grisham interviews Teddy Long and asked him if he thought it was unfair Christian has to defend the World title so soon. Long said it's not about being fair, it's about giving the fans what they want. Long said that Raw had a WWE title bout the day after Extreme Rules and he's going to make Smackdown just as exciting and unpredictable.

*Randy Orton pinned Christian to win the World title.

VSG 05-03-2011 09:56 PM

Lock Jaw is telling how he is going to jizz at Christian's party on Smackdown in the other thread :'(

Xero 05-03-2011 09:57 PM

How bout that new talent initiative?

Also, may as well make this the SD spoiler thread. BRB.

VSG 05-03-2011 09:58 PM

lol Bizarroking just posted the spoiler in the Christian victory thread :'(

Xero 05-03-2011 09:59 PM

This is now the SD spoiler thread.

Inadequacy 05-03-2011 10:00 PM

Evil Vito 05-03-2011 10:02 PM

<font color=goldenrod>lol what a fucking joke

Basically proof that WWE never wanted Christian to win the belt but had no choice</font>

VSG 05-03-2011 10:02 PM

I like how Kharma is slowly and steadily getting more competition to her attacks.

What spoiler? :shifty:

Xero 05-03-2011 10:04 PM

In one week. Hell, in two fucking days, WWE managed to take both titles off legit rising stars, one of which is a long-term future for the company, and put it right back on the same old shit.

If they were going to do this, they should have just had Orton put into the match in the first place. Make it a battle royal or some shit at the PPV and not put it on Christian at all.

Nicky Fives 05-03-2011 10:05 PM

FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What Would Kevin Do? 05-03-2011 10:10 PM

WOW.

I like Christian, but this isn't really about that. It just seems to be silly booking. I mean, I have no problem with Christian having a short reign, but why not use this as an oppertunity to build him up. Although I'm guessing that this may very well result in a Christian heel turn, which would be entertaining, and better for him.

glanville6 05-03-2011 10:16 PM

I'm so pissed. So super pissed off. Why? I'm glad he won it a few nights ago, but its so heartbreaking. I know its all a work obviously, but I was seriously never so excited for a wrestling moment, and to see he lost it 2 days later is heartbreaking.

Hope he turns heel, since they are lacking a top heel on that brand.

I should be glad he won it, and I am...but if he has an initial Kane 1 (in this case 2 day run) it makes it less important to me.

Xero 05-03-2011 10:17 PM

lol at Twitter. Two random ones from the past minute or so...

Ken_D_Blackwell @WWE If Christian doesn't get a rematch soon, there WILL be severe repercussions from the fans. Mark my words. MAKE THIS RIGHT OR ELSE.

Wolverine_L0gan @WWE HOW COULD YOU BE THAT CARELESS??? AFTER 13YRS CHRISTIAN BECOMES A MAJOR CHAMPION & YOU SCREW HIM OVER? #WWE DO I HEAR #TNA RETURN?

lol, especially that first one

Mr. C 05-03-2011 10:35 PM

Okay, you’ve got to be kidding me. So much for that. Shows you how much faith they have in him. I hate this.

They’re belittling the value of the title, not as if it wasn’t belittled enough.

Tazz Dan 05-03-2011 10:42 PM

Yeah this is pretty fucking stupid tbh. If they wanted a transitional champ they could have at least left the belt on him till the next PPV. I just don't see the point in this booking. And I'm not just saying this becuase it was Christian either.

What Would Kevin Do? 05-03-2011 10:47 PM

People, chill and see where they go with it. Christian has had pretty much NO character of his own since he's been back. He's had great matches, but he's just sort of been there. Maybe this will turn into, you know, an actual angle, that will give him a real character. He hasn't had a character since he's been back in the WWE. Good wrestler is not a gimmick.

Something will come of this.

Evil Vito 05-03-2011 10:47 PM

<font color=goldenrod>Orton was always going to be the face of SmackDown. That's fine and dandy, and makes sense since the crowd goes apeshit for him week in and week out. He bores me personally, more so than Cena by a wide margin...but I'd never say it's a bad business decision.

I just think it's a bit daft to take the belt off Christian at the very first possible opportunity, essentially admitting he only won the belt to have a happy ending for Edge's retirement. Given the rather weak face scene on SmackDown, letting Christian hold it for a PPV or two while building up to the eventual Orton win wouldn't have hurt any, and would at least keep Christian in a position where he could be a credible challenger to plug into a main event down the line.

As such, now that he's lost the belt so quickly I don't really see how they can salvage anything main event worthy out of face Christian. He needs to go heel if he's going to be back in the main event, and I'd be all for it. The face scene on SmackDown is incredibly weak, but since Orton is going to be assuming the Batista role (either the champion or #1 contender no matter what), there isn't really a need for a proper #2 face on the brand.

So yeah. We all knew it was coming, I'm just shocked that it was this soon.</font>

PorkSoda 05-03-2011 10:56 PM

I also believe that this is fucking stupid. Seriously? He loses the title already?

Let me be the only optimistic one here, though.

The Undertaker won his first world title at Survivor Series 1991 and lost it six days later. And he went on to win the title multiple times. Even though he didn't get his second title run until 1997, he still got it.

Christian will get it back eventually.

BLaZeR- 05-03-2011 10:57 PM

Brilliant move on behalf of the WWE....take the title away from a guy who's busted his ass for 13 years, has great in ring and mic skills, and give it to a bland one dimensional JAG who can't outwork Hogan in a match.

Supreme Olajuwon 05-03-2011 11:58 PM

ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN IN THE WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT!

Supreme Olajuwon 05-04-2011 12:05 AM

On the plus side, at least Christian didn't get Backlund'd and drop the title at a house show.

Corndad 05-04-2011 12:10 AM

Wow. All I can say is wow.

I can see them maybe moving it off Christian in a month or so after the Edge stuff has worn off and if he wasn't getting the reactions they wanted but the next show? Really? Wow. I wouldn't say I'm as big a fan of Christian as some but he is solid. I mean I figured they would at least give him a "Benoit" title reign. A few month reign, maybe not always the Main Event but still holding the title.

I am curious how this is shown. If they show Christian as being weakened from Extreme Rules or what.

Hey at least they let Bryan wrestle on Smackdown.

SlickyTrickyDamon 05-04-2011 12:12 AM

What in this hell is this about? I'd like some sort of explanation on why this happened. Seems a pretty cold move to a guy who busts his ass and doesn't wrestle the same boring ass match week after week. Randy got carried by CM Punk in their feud and now he's the World Champion?

Also why did they bother having him on Raw being congratulated by the The Rock if this was their plan? Did Christian get hurt at the PPV and won't be able to compete?

What was wrong with a Christian vs. Mark Henry feud? Nothing. It would have been great with the brand new champion hungry to prove himself facing a re-energized World's Strongest Man. Randy Vs. Mark Henry doesn't really do it for me. If it's Randy Vs. Cody Rhodes then it might be worth taking the title off of Christian.

Supreme Olajuwon 05-04-2011 12:13 AM

Injured ribs or not, Christian dropping the title to a more over face is pretty much just a nice hot shit on his cred.

Rock Bottom 05-04-2011 12:24 AM

Good move, too soon.

Should have built it up. But we don't know what they have planned.

legendkillerRKO 05-04-2011 12:24 AM

Orton > Christian always....Edge told WWE when he leaves he wants his best tag team partner to win the title....obviously this is what he meant....

Gertner 05-04-2011 01:35 AM

You all knew Christian's reign would be short, since they kept throwing Edge out with him in hopes Edge's rub would get Christian over.

CSL 05-04-2011 01:38 AM

GD 05-04-2011 02:07 AM

I really do not like the way, the WWE is handling the World Heavyweight Championship since Kane won it last year. It's as if they are going to unify it with the WWE Championship and retire it.

GD 05-04-2011 02:08 AM

Not that I have anything against Kane.

James Steele 05-04-2011 02:27 AM

The Big Gold Belt is the greatest looking championship in the history of professional wrestling, and it better end up on the impeccable waist of Triple H one more time.

With Cena back as Champ, the Christian title run aborted and given to Orton, CM Punk floating in obscurity and on his way out, Sheamus and DBD being ignored and Wade Barrett basically just being left to rot. I'm pretty much inclined to go back to what I was doing between 2005-2010 reading results, watching if something catches my eye and yeah (which nothing really did until Nexus). Back to not watching I guess, ah well got a good 8 months out of it.

James Steele 05-04-2011 05:20 AM

Great. Does this mean you will quit posting again, Lara?

#BROKEN Hasney 05-04-2011 05:58 AM

Bring back Tomko, turn heel and fuck the title. I might actually watch Smackdown for entertainment value for once.

#1-norm-fan 05-04-2011 06:09 AM

I prefer Christian with the title. But Orton as champ on Smackdown is fresh. The main event scene on Smackdown is miles more creative than the one on Raw. I think this could make Orton interesting again.

Corporate CockSnogger 05-04-2011 06:19 AM

Just read this on another spoiler site, dunno how legit it is though

"Orton celebrated and left after the match. Christian sat in the ring dejected as the fans chanted for him. After he went to the back, Orton returned to remind everyone that when they go home, remember he is the new World champion"

Does anyone else think that it sounds like Orton might be the one turning?

#BROKEN Hasney 05-04-2011 06:24 AM

If Orton turns though, Christian is the de-facto top face. Maybe my memory is failing me, but I can't see else in that role with Orton being heel. Unless they push Khali again.

I thought Kane's world title reign makes it the shortest in history?
Remember Kane beat Austin in a first blood match, then the following night 24 hours later Austin took his belt back on Raw :S...

Oh I agree that it doesn't seem to fit that they would turn Randy heel and leave Christian as the top face. Maybe it was just the way that report was worded.

#BROKEN Hasney 05-04-2011 06:28 AM

Maybe they'll do it right and just push Orton as an arrogant bad-ass face. Screw the heelish beard, it would still work.

I'm more disappointed that they blew a wad on Orton and Christian on a spoiler show. I would have liked to see that match in a PPV.

Supreme Olajuwon 05-04-2011 08:22 AM

Yeah Yoko, Andre, Cena, Ziggler, and Jeff Hardy all had 0 day reigns.

Evil Vito 05-04-2011 09:26 AM

<font color=goldenrod>After having a night to think about it, it really just set in how brutally booked the main event scene has been in the last 2 years. I keep hearing about "creating new stars" and I just don't see it. I don't think this would be that of a deal if it was just Christian, but it's not. Most of the time somebody gets close to the main event, the WWE yanks it from them.

-Over the past two years we've had Mark Henry going over huge against Orton in his Raw return, looking like the next big thing, then absolutely nothing was done to capitalize and he became a jobber to the stars
-Kofi Kingston looked like he was going to be huge during his feud with Orton, with the MSG beatdown, and going over both Punk and Orton at Survivor Series, then he lost the blow-off and disappeared.
-Sheamus came in like a house of fire, winning the title twice and establishing himself as a top heel on Raw, only to go on a losing streak and pretty much become just another midcarder.
-Swagger won the title, beat Orton mostly cleanly, was feuding with the Big Show, then the vegetative state storyline took over and he ended up fighting Chris Masters on Superstars a bunch of times.
-Wade Barrett was the centerpiece of the biggest, most promising storyline WWE has done in years, and around November Barrett vs Cena looked like it could easily headline Wrestlemania. Then the Nexus were promptly made to look like huge jokes who never had a chance of playing with the big boys, the Corre looked even worse, and Barrett ended up wrestling a 90 second 8 man tag.
-They can still right the ship with Alberto Del Rio, but it's close to sailing. His opening feud with Rey was a logical starting point and the subsequent buildup to his "destiny" was brilliantly done. But where is he after Mania and Extreme Rules? Right back where he started, feuding with Rey again. The eventual Cena/Del Rio feud can be fun, and finally winning the belt would help to solidify him as a solid main eventer even if he loses it back within a few months. But it seems like Cena is bound to hold the belt until close to Mania to build to the Cena/Rock match potentially being for the title.

About the only bona fide main event success story that comes to mind in the last couple of years is The Miz. If nothing else, he'll always have a lengthy WWE Title reign and a WM main event (and win) under his belt. But even at that, I can't help but wonder what they will do with him once his feud with Cena ends.

I'm not saying these guys would have made it to the Orton/Cena elite level, but there is no reason why a few of them couldn't be viewed as legitimate main eventers who could be believably plugged into the WWE or WHW title pictures on a dime. Because the WWE has incredibly cold feet, none of them were given the chance to sink or swim. Now I haven't seen SmackDown yet obviously, and I don't know what the plans are for the next week/month are, but history suggests that Christian had his cup of coffee with the title and will be shunted back to the midcard.

I understand that Cena and Orton are the two most over guys in the company, and I'm fine with them nearly always being in the title picture. But those reports of WWE wanting to fill the voids left by Taker and Triple H just seems like a total crock. It seems that WWE feel that since Cena and Orton are 34 and 31, respectively - there are still plenty of miles in the tank and thus there is no need to try and create any legitimate main eventers. There may not be a proper influx of new main eventers until they are getting close to retiring.

And that ends a rare "Noid post" from me.</font>

Brigstocke 05-04-2011 10:01 AM

Has anyone considered the idea that Christian may have had a 'major title' clause in his contract and will now leave?

Thus making my pick of him on the Pink Slip Pool a stroke of genius.

I actually read that entire thing. Agree mostly.

Great...the one thing WWE has going for it, they ruin in...5 days?!:wtf::nono:

Can't wait to see all the wrestling conspiracists come out now and say, "See told ya! Gonna be Orton v. Cena to unify the titles." Just know there's someone out there who will insist that this is the case.

Hopefully, this will build to a rematch at Over The Limit and maybe we could see a 2nd, more lengthy title run for Christian, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Probably just VKM's way of saying to the Peeps "there, I fuckin' did it, OK? I let him hold the title, now fuck off!"

XL 05-04-2011 12:13 PM

They could go with Christian feeling he has been conspired against and slowly turning heel. Or they could play a "Tasted glory for a moment only to have it taken away" angle and have Christian go back after the title as a face. Dunno.

Only thing I'm looking forward to on SD! is to see what the reaction to Christian is like after he loses. The report said the fans were chanting his name. Wanna see how loud that is or if that gets edited out entirely.

My guess would be that Orton got the title as "payment" for going to SmackDown. He sure didn't seemed thrilled with the move when he came out at the draft.

Really no idea where they are gonna take this. Just crossing fingers that it leads somewhere.

Haze 05-04-2011 12:19 PM

Fox 05-04-2011 12:31 PM

So was it a clean win for Orton? And did it make Christian look like a bitch in the process, or did he atleast come close to retaining his title?

This is pretty ridiculous if you ask me. He JUST won the thing. This isn't like hot-shotting the title from Austin-to Kane-back to Austin or Austin-to Mankind-to Triple H. This is just senseless booking. Christian is over with the crowd, he's been working toward this moment for years and years, and when he finally wins the title in a moment that can be see as him finally reaching the pinnacle of success in the shadow of his "brother's" retirement, they fucking snatch it right back out of his hands.

I'm really hoping that this leads to a Christian heel turn where he becomes obsessed with winning the World Title back and is willing to do anything to get it. A heel Christian against a tweener Orton could be some good shit, supposing that it does lead to Christian regaining the belt. But as things stand right now, I think this is a pretty bullshit turn of events and a slap in the face of Christian and all of his fans.

Let's all be honest here.... Christian is like Skid Marks mixed with Chris Benoit. He is an amazing wrestler who always impresses and knows TONS of really great moves, and on the flip side he sells like Carnie, or Skid Marks. That's why he isn't the champ right now because nobody REALLY believes he could kick anyone's ass. He's not cut, big, intimidating in any way, AND he totally over acts sometimes. I think WWE is making great choices for their business these days and Orton does make a bigger Champion than Christian.

Now with WWE making good choices I am holding out hope that this instance forces Christian to depths he has never gone to before. We all know he is a phenominal heel and had a great feud with Cena several years ago before departing for lesser pastures. If this angle is to work out a sping/summer Orton/Christian feud, I don't think Smackdown! could get much hotter. They are desperately in need of a top heel and while Rhodes is good he's just not there yet, Christian however is more than capable. Remember Punk guiding Orton through their various matches over the past months, just imagine how Christian could lead Orton as well, especially considering his matches with Del Rio.

Let's just hope for the best, don't jump the gun yet, WWE isn't as foolish as they used to be, just chill and see what happens here.

I agree with y'all on this potentially being something good, but time will tell. Christian's world title run was just like Mysterio's sympathy run after Eddie's death. Edge had to retire so they put the belt on Christian out of sympathy and the emotional connection with Christian created by the Edge situation. At least he dropped the belt to an established star and didn't have to go through the horrible run Mysterio did. I do believe that this is horrible decision because Christian can be very entertaining and would have been interested to see what he could have done with a decent reign as champion, but there is still potential that this is the start of a much needed Heel turn for Christian or a program with him being the mega-face chasing the dastardly Orton who might be turning heel.

Christian losing the belt isn't actually such a horrible thing for him, hes either going to become even more over as a face because the fans want to see him get the belt back (especially if Orton turns heel, making him THE undisputed top babyface on the show) or hes going to turn heel and steal it back from Orton.

Sure it would have been nice if he held it for a while longer but this is very likely to build him up either way, while feuding with Mark Henry would have just been total filler before Orton got him. I wouldnt be surprised if Randy did turn since he's stated numerous times he prefers being a heel anyway.

Ya know, I dont mind this. This isn't the Orton mark in me talking either. This is the fact that for the longest time I have liked Christian as a competitor. But it's time to turn him heel. He's awful as a face

I was going to post it for strictly comic effect but judging by some of the vids on Youtube I've seen from the mutants about Christian, this would be quite tame
