Best & Worst #4: Intercontinental Championship [RESULTS POSTED]

This should be interesting, what with the number of First Class guys to hold the belt.

RULES:

Please pick ONE Best and ONE Worst. Not best of their era, best to hold each design of the belt, best black man to hold the belt, etc.

Best: Chris Jericho
Worst: Shane Douglas

I was considering putting Honky Tonk Man as the best due to the length of his reign but he never regained the title after loosing it while Jericho managed to become the fall back choice anytime the WWE needed a big name as champion.

I also considered Chyna for the worst but she did have some entertaining feuds with Eddie Guerrero and Chris Jericho for the title while Shane Douglas ended up being a champion on paper only. To be fair, Douglas was hated by the Kliq at the time and didn't lose it because he was horrible.

Best: Honky Tonk Man
Worst:.......Chyna is the easy pick, but I'm going with Ric Flair.

Ric Flair should not have been near that title. It would be like Hulk Hogan making a comeback and getting the US title. The 16 time World Heavyweight Champion didn't need the IC title. Ric Flair can last on his legacy. He was given the title because Triple H likes him, and it made the people who were in Evolution look good.

On a side note, I hate it when they have former WWE/WH Champions holding the IC Title, like some sort of consolation prize or to give the belt instant credibilty again. It's better to not even hold a belt. I'd rather hold no belt than have to "go back" to holding the IC Title if I was WWE/WH Chmapion already (ie. CM Punk, Triple H, Flair, Booker T)

Also, I thought that Randy Orton looked better with the IC Title before going onto the WHC. Suited him best at the time, especially with Evolution

Aaronp43 07-19-2011 11:05 PM

Best: Honkeytonk man
Worst:Shamrock
The fact Shamrock was ever champ in the first place is just wrong.

XCaliber 07-19-2011 11:13 PM

Best: This was a very tough choice but after much consideration I have to go with Randy Orton since he's had the best single run in the modern era.

Worst: Didn't need to think very long for this one heh I thought Albert even winning the belt in the first place was pretty lame.

Theo Dious 07-19-2011 11:23 PM

Best: Mr Perfect

A VERY close run between him and Shawn Michaels, but I can't see that the IC title was ever as valuable as when Perfect had the belt.

Worst: Dean Douglas

Best: The Rock
Worst: The Godfather

I actually was a Chyna fan so I liked her reign and thought her and Jericho had the match of the night at two back to back PPVs. I would have said Dean Douglas for worst, but The Godfather had an actual reign.

Best Savage

Worst Albert

captaincharismark 07-20-2011 12:55 AM

Best:Chris Jericho
Worst:Ultimate Warrior

I said Jericho based on him having more reigns than anybody else. He's a guy that could hold the belt again tommorow and make it mean more by holding it.

Ultimate Warrior is easily one of the worst guys to ever wrestle period. He should've never been IC champ, much less WWF Champion....

Rock Bottom 07-20-2011 02:00 AM

Best: Bret Hart. By no means is this by a mile, there are so many who have brought recognition to that belt. But as far as actually seeming like a champion, yeah, Bret all the way.

Worst? D'Lo Brown?

I'd jump on the Chyna bandwagon, but she was actually over, and her storyline with Eddie Guerrero/Jericho was half way interesting, and pretty much unheard of.

Worst: Road Dogg (this guy was supposed to be an up-and-coming star, and his run with the IC proved that he would never be more than a tag-team hype guy... so disappointing)

As a side note, why the hate for D'Lo Brown? He was not spectacular, but was not terrible. He was a good work horse for the mid-card in his time, and he had a unique moveset for a guy his size. Add in the chest protector gimmick, and you have a solid mid-card heel that irritates you. I loved his work.

8. D-Lo Brown vs. Droz
The results of a wrestling match may be predetermined but the wrestlers put their well being on the line every time they step in the ring. During a 1999 SmackDown TV taping, D-Lo fought Droz in what was supposed to be an ordinary match. D-Lo slipped on a wet spot on the mat while giving Droz a running power bomb. Droz fractured two discs in his neck. The accident left the former Denver Bronco paralyzed from the neck down.

I was a major Chyna fan back in the day. Why is she the worst? Was she a bad wrestler or was it that a women held the title?

If Natalya or Beth Phoenix or Trish Stratus held the IC title, would it have been better?

Both. She was a terrible wrestler and I could never take it seriously that she would be competing with guys.

Phoenix, Natalya, and Trish would also be terrible choices for the IC title.

It's probably due to current opinion on her (drugged up porn star whore). Just like Jeff Hardy was voted worst WWE Champion, despite this forum calling for him to the win the belt at the time.

Rock Bottom 07-21-2011 07:36 AM

I'd vote for Hardy as the worst WWE champion ever and I'd have been crying a whole lot if I were around when people wanted him to win the belt.

El Fangel 07-21-2011 07:42 AM

I am not sure so much that people wanted him to win as a reward for the interest he (and Matt) brought the company way back or that people actually wanted him to be champion as it seems ridiculous.

Sure, they brought alot of teenage girls in as fans and sold alot of mechandise because the Hardyz were easily likable but saying that Matt should be WWE champion as well seems ridiculous as well.

I think of Jeff the same way as I did Rey, that they just dont look like World Champions.

Rock Bottom 07-21-2011 07:53 AM

RVD's in TNA was definately worse, and so was Foley's. Jeff is one of the few who was bad in both companies. At least RVD earned his title reign in WWE and Foley was a decent champion in WWE. Jeff Hardy is the epitome of an overrated wrestler...

CSL 07-21-2011 04:31 PM

Jeff Hardy is the epitome of internet wrestling fans at their sheepish idiotic "best". There hasn't been anything wrong with any of Jeff's title reigns in WWE or TNA except maybe the 2nd TNA one, which just seemed pointless given how short it was. I don't see how he's overrated in the slightest.

Supreme Olajuwon 07-21-2011 04:39 PM

Not to mention that Jeff had the absolute best feud in the past 5 years over that belt.

His reigns in WWE lacked any direction, other than appeasing the fans. It's clear WWE never viewed him as a big star, and rightfully so. He's a very boring and overrated entertainer, and a decent in ring worker at best. "Charismatic Enigma" is certainly not a deserving nickname. Unless he's working with a great worker, he can't have watchable matches. In TNA all his reigns seemed pointless and just another way of taunting WWE of stealing another "big star". They certainly lacked any long term vision. To sum it up, his reigns haven't been impressive for a reason. The only reason he was in the ME to begin with is b/c of the insane risk he was taking to get noticed. It's not as if those were 5 star classics b/c of Jeff alone. Most fans may think he's the best thing to come along in wrestling, but I disagree. He's a bland guy personality wise who was able to capitalize on high risk and not necessarily having great matches....

I'm actually surprised JBL hasn't been mentioned yet.

Can anyone actually remember what he did during his IC Title reign?

He only held it for a month, only to drop it to Mysterio at WrestleMania in 21 seconds. It sort of made the belt look like shit.

But I don't get why Chyna is getting labeled as the worst though. :-\

Her reign lasted a collective amount of 84 days and the angles she was in during her IC title reigns were at least a bit interesting. In my opinion, they were more interesting than JBL's, which was just basically him attacking Mysterio during his match's for two weeks.

I think the WWE just gave the Intercontinental Championship to him, so he could have his last match at WrestleMania which was in Texas, and become Grand Slam Champion and Triple Crown Champion in the process.

I think it was the WWE's way of saying Thank You to him.

How are the reasons I gave untrue or nonsensible??? As far as I can tell, you say that b/c you disagree with me. Which is fine, that's life, but don't try to sell me on a load of BS. Most every fan that posts here blindly marks for wrestlers. At least I justify my responses by describing why I do or don't like a wrestler. Funny that the word intelligence is thrown in, b/c blindly marking for a guy is about as illogical and far from intelligent as you can get.

And you're damn right, I don't like Jeff Hardy. He's a bad entertainer who can't even have good matches without depending on his opponent. His "Charismatic Enigma" nickname is laughable, since the dude is about as entertaining as a block of wood on the mic.

In the end, you're entitled to your opinion, but I don't agree. So, don't try to blow smoke up my ass and sell me on him being great. The fact is, for the past 5 or so years, Jeff has been one of the most inconsistent guys in the wrestling industry....

Aguakate 07-22-2011 01:30 AM

I used to LOVE the feuds for the Intercontinental Championship back in the day...

...this was the title that almost all of the guys who would later on become WWF/E Champions would hold first, as the company's way of seeing if they had what it took to take "that" next step...

...guys like Savage, Warrior, Bret Hart, Diesel, HBK, Austin, The Rock, Triple H, among others, all were IC Champions before they became World Champions.

Actually, there were times that the feuds for the IC Title were more interesting than those for the WWF/E Title.

That's understandable. Jeff's personal issues did make great material for CM Punk to play off of. And IMO, that was the last time Jeff delivered in a fued. Classic moment when Punk came out dressed as Jeff and proceded to rip him a new one. I'm surprized Jeff took offense to that, b/c Punk made that fued as great as it was...

I never state anything as fact. I give my views on a topic, regardless of if they are right or wrong. And I don't see how what I say doesn't make sense or isn't true. My opinions are open to interpretation as is any post here. What I say is as sensible as any other moron here blindly marking for no reason. At least I attempt to justify my posts with some logic and reasoning. Unlike XL, who likes to say I'm an idiot, when he himself adds no personal insight into anything related to the topic.

I can respect other's views on subjects, but apparently the majority here cannot do that. The way I see it, my views are as well thought out and explained as any fan here. At least I will discuss something intelligently, rather than assuming my opinion is fact. Thus the reason I always quote someone specifically to talk about each point that is made...

Other than you creating this thread, what the hell have you added to this discussion??? In certain threads, I may have been redundant, but at least I attempt to add insight into the topics. You add no insight into the thread, then act as if you contributed to it. Flaming me for actually attempting to create intelligent debates only serves to make you look like an idiot...

Talking sensibly and debating logically has nothing to do with winning or losing. The point is to learn something from it. Which is a lost cause as far as you are concerned.

My choice of Chyna being the worst IC champion had nothing to do with her current status. It's just that her reign as champion wasn't as strong as many had hoped, although it had some great angles (like the one with Chris Jericho having her tied up and crushes her hand with a hammer).

You know, this made me think about a lot of champions. Looking back, Rowdy Roddy Piper really stepped up his game when he won the belt. It's amazing to watch, in my opinion.

However, on the topic.

Best: Mr. Perfect (still debating within myself on this one.)
Worst: Chyna

The results are in!!

13 men were nominated as "Best Ever IC Champ", including 7 former World Champions.

But top of the pile, with 18% of the vote, he is "The Best In The World At Being Intercontinental Champion"...

16 people were nominated as "Worst IC Champ Ever". But top/bottom of the pile with an unprecedented 47% of the vote...

What a pic of Chyna...

XL 08-03-2011 10:54 AM

Yep. Always go for the most embarrassing pic I can find of the Hall of Shamer.

El Fangel 08-03-2011 11:00 AM

I would have taken the pic of her clit/dick to be the most embarassing.

XL 08-03-2011 11:09 AM

And I've have had to put that in NSFW tags.

Yes. There are lots of choices for Chyna.

Rock Bottom 08-03-2011 05:08 PM

Kudos for picking good Jericho picture and finding an awful Chyna picture to accentuate the results.

Rock Bottom 08-03-2011 05:09 PM

Although short haired Jericho looks like a weird midget.

MVP 08-03-2011 05:52 PM

Can't disagree with Jericho winning. He would have been my second choice.

Best: Mr. Perfect
Worst: Chyna

XL, do you want specific reigns of selected champions noted?

XL 08-05-2011 12:28 AM

Well this round is done, so...no. But feel free to do so in the next championship one.
