Who will Undertaker face at Wrestlemania 28?
This is the big one guys. 20-0. Undertaker's pretty much retired now anyway, I guess most are seeing it that this will be his final match, ending with the perfect 20-0 streak at Wrestlemania.
So who's he gonna face? Who is a big enough, deserving name, who can put on a match that will live up to the hype? Whilst at the same time still 'posing a threat'. I remember a while back a lot of us speculated that it could/should/would be John Cena, but with him facing The Rock, who will Undertaker face? Despite the logical storyline reasons, I don't want to see another Kane/Undertaker match at Wrestlemania. Also, will the Rock/Cena match take away from the 'bigness' of Undertaker's match? Discuss Undertaker's match at Wrestlemania. |

It's time for the monthly Undertaker-Wrestlemania thread already?
Alright, Colt Cabana. |
There's one for August?

Big show.

I know I'd like to see Sheamus attempt to break the streak. He's a guy that has proven he can have a great match with anyone. That's one match I would buy to see at WM.
As far as Cena/Rock, as long as Taker is taking on a big name, he'll have a huge part of WM. If he were to wrestle HHH again, yeah Rock/Cena would overshadow it. But, if he were facing Sting, then fans would be equally as interested in Taker's streak... |
|
MIZ!!! or they will job UT to sin cara. ADR COULD DO IT TOO.
|
Dunno why Johnny Ace doesn't use his political clout to diamond cutter his arse.
|
Sheamus
|
A Returning Hulk Hogan after TNA collapses and hes forced to come crawling back to vince.
Hogan/Taker would be epic...ly aw...ful. |
It might be Orton, or even Kane, knowing what the WWE is like.
They'll probably choose a big face, like Orton or Mysterio. Though I can also see The Miz being chosen. |
Wouldn't mind seeing Wade Barrett get the match, my guess is that he'll end up facing HHH again.
|
It has to be someone epic, someone who hasn't been around in a while but is still relivent.
Steve Austin perhaps? Otherwise, it will have to be some up and comer to get a rub off breaking the streak, which I just don't see happening. The last option would be one of his former rivals, but, dispite all that Taker has done, who would you say is his biggest rival? Kane? Maybe a rematch with Deisel? Kamala? |
If they want to have a current big name so the match isn't overshadowed by Rock/Cena I can't think of any man better for the job then "The Viper" Randy Orton.
|
A gauntlet match of every man he had beaten at Mania.
Send Khali out in Gonzalez's suit. |
Seriously, it COULD be Triple H again. I think that's the obvious/safe route. I mean, we don't even know if Taker could go this year. He may even take another year off and then top it off at 29 or even 30.
Otherwise, I'd love to see Sheamus for sure. |
only see Triple H or Orton at this point, could change obv.
|
Triple H. Their match at Wrestlemania this year is in my top 20 matches of all time.

Punk.

If it's Triple H, it could one of two things...
Either it's the third time's the charm or three strikes, you're out!!! |
Way to narrow down the options, DLVH.
|
HHH/Kane/HBK 3 on 1 Handicapped Match
|
Taker vs Orton is sounding good, they did a great job last time and both men are better than ever now. Sure Taker isn't wrestling at the moment, but at Wrestlemania he was insane.
Mania could be sick this year.... Cena/Rock Taker/Orton Bryan/Punk Wishful thinking all around. |
Also, Taker's last WM needs to be the main event, I don't think this will be the end.
|
Personally it should be the last mania for Taker. Guys got bad.....uhm, everything I think.
I think there's only one name that can face the deadman... SPOILER: show Quote:
|
There is but one man... just one man that I think could do it. The one man that Undertaker has not had a real proper feud with despite the number of years they have been in the WWE together.
The only question is... will this man want to return to wrestling by that time? Or will he still be out busy? The man I'm referring to... is the Millennium Man, The one that had a second coming to save us... CHRIS JERICHO! Jericho/Undertaker would be epic. |

A returning Kurt Angle.
|
jeez.. can't believe it's nearly been 10 years since I saw undertaker get on his motorcycle and count to 10 on his fingers
|
I would say Randy Orton because right now he seems like the only legit threat to the streak. IMO

I'm gonna say Orton. I'd mark out if Taker kicked out of the punt.
|
I'd much rather see Taker-HBK 3 than Taker-HHH 3.

If this is indeed Taker's last WrestleMania outing then it's going to be an interesting situation. Most people seem to be under the impression that the streak is going to hit 20-0 and then Taker will retire with his undefeated run intact - it does seem like the most logical thing to do. But there is still the slight possibility that someone COULD break the streak and send Taker packing at 19-1. That's the first hurdle that has to be crossed when considering Taker's WM opponent: do they win, or do they lose? This makes a huge difference.
No matter what, it's got to be a huge match. Taker vs Mark Henry or Taker vs Kane Part 3 or Taker vs Great Khali just aren't going to cut it - this match has to deliver in every aspect, most importantly: drawing power and in-ring work rate. We expect a legendary build and a classic match, and frankly, Undertaker deserves nothing less after his amazing career. The problem is going to be that for this to truly feel like the end of the Undertaker's run, the match has to feel bigger than Undertaker/HBK 1&2 and Undertaker/Triple H - that is a huge feat to accomplish. It's either got to be a massive legend, returning to face the Deadman (Austin, Sting, Kurt Angle) or someone who is still young and fresh and who has proven that they are a major player in the future of the WWE. Sheamus is a possibility, but I don't know if Sheamus/Undertaker has that "legendary finale" feel that the match needs, and it's certainly not bigger than Taker's last 3 Mania's. Taker/Bryan is the same problem, and same goes for matches against guys like The Miz and Wade Barrett; they're amazing performers and clearly they're the future of the company, but they aren't on the level to stand against Undertaker at WrestleMania and make it "mean something." CM Punk is a possibility. Right now he's red hot, but who knows where he's going to be come WrestleMania time. A storyline where Punk wants to outshine Cena/Rock by defeating Undertaker at Mania basically writes itself, and the promos and build up would be legendary thanks to Punk's amazing mic work. The match itself would be a great one to see, but I'm not 100% convinced that Punk could be taken as a legitimate threat to Undertaker's streak. He's one of the best wrestlers in the world, but he hasn't been showcased in the WWE as a truly threatening character. Orton is another possibility, but I'm not sure if the build is there. What's the storyline here? Orton just wants to do what HBK and Triple H couldn't do and end Taker's streak? It feels weak. I also don't see it as any kind of major moment if Taker were to beat Orton at WrestleMania. The match just doesn't have that "Big time match up" feel to it. Maybe Jericho, but only if he were a heel, and once again, I think we have the same problem with Jericho that we have with Punk. He's one of the best wrestlers in the world, but he hasn't been developed in the WWE as someone who could truly be a threat to Taker's undefeated streak. Hard to make a call on this right now, but it's definitely interesting to speculate. |
I think Punk will wrestle Austin at WM28, so I'll go with...
...Del Rio. |
I could see Sheamus facing Taker at Wrestlemania.
In the buildup to Wrestlemania, Sheamus could call out Undertaker, saying that Taker stole his chance to retire Triple H, so he wants to retire Taker instead. He challenges Undertaker to a match at Wrestlemania, but gets no reply. The next week on SmackDown, Sheamus wins a number one contender match for the Intercontinental Championship, which he wins at Elimination Chamber. After the match, Taker's gong plays, the lights go out, and Taker ambushes Sheamus with a chokeslam. A match is made for Wrestlemania, Sheamus vs. Undertaker, but Undertaker only accepts when Sheamus puts the IC Title on the line. At Wrestlemania, Undertaker barely pulls out a win, and retires as Intercontinental Champion, finally completing his Triple Crown. Not only would Sheamus get a push based on being the one who retired Undertaker (even though he lost). More importantly though, people sometimes complain about how the IC Title doesn't mean anything anymore. Surely a legend like the Undertaker wanting the title should help with that. |
Having Sheamus facing Undertaker to me makes more sense. He's one of the new stars that was pushed big time as a badass heel in the beginning. He destroyed HHH, leaving him out of action for almost a year(storyline wise). What better opponent for Taker than the guy who almost ended HHH's career? It's the kind of match that gives new stars more credibility.
I'd personally wanna see Sheamus take out several guys leading up to his match with Taker. Make him look like the same destructive force that dominated ECW, RAW and now SD. Losing wouldn't even matter, cause the effort used to establish him as a threat to Taker's streak would make him legit. Plus, it would re-establish Sheamus once again as a top guy. Pretty much a win-win situation since it's a match that's never happened... |
I like the idea of Taker becoming a triple Crown champion in his final match.
|
Since he is the dead man, the reaper etc I propose a
Fatal four way -fight for life match : OWEN HART VS CHRIS BENOIT VS EDDIE GUERRERO VS UNDERTAKER |

I'm fully on board with the Miz doing it.
|
If Miz wrestles Taker at WM I'm going to kill him. (I'm serious)
|
|
That's a bit of an overreaction on your part.
|
I'm sorry guys but The Miz, Wade Barrett, and to an extent even Sheamus just don't have what it takes to challenge The Dead Man at Wrestlemania, potential end his streak and follow Triple H, HBK, and Edge.
Jericho should be the next victim in my opinion. And then eventually when WWE decides to change directions and have John Cena go heel, then perhaps he ends the streak. Randy Orton wouldn't end the streak, nobody will end it except Cena, lets just get real here. That is, if it does indeed end. We have never seen Jericho/Taker and if you have read Jericho's latest book you know the mutual respect between the two, and the surprising admiration Taker has for Jericho. I think those two could pull out of the best matches in Jericho's career. At the age of like 42 The Undertaker started having a streak of insanely great wrestling matches, some of the best in history with Edge, Michaels, and then Triple H, what makes you think that at 46 he's done? First of all there is NO WAY The Undertaker retires before the crowd pops for Cena/Rock, no way that would be horrible booking. If the Undertaker retires it has to be the main event because NOTHING could follow that and you would DISGRACE a 20 year legacy by putting on The Rock/Cena after such an experience. So please everyone just agree with me so I can stop getting so upset about people thinking the streak will end this year |

There is only one possible man who can even hope to look like he has a chance against Taker at Wrestlemania.
That man is of course.... http://29.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lo...kec8o1_500.png |

I doubt El Dandy.

Sting:shifty:
Someone like Jericho or Punk who can work a decent match with anyone, more to help hide any injurys 'Taker might be carrying. But i can see it being Triple H, its still a money making match even though its been done twice. |
Maybe in the build up to Taker/HHH they could just ignore the existence of the first 2 matches? Y'know, like they ignored X7 in the build up to 27.
|
Why, what happened at WM27?

If WWE didn't go with Sheamus, other matches that could tear down the house at WM...
CM Punk/Undertaker Jericho/Undertaker I'm actually shocked that Jericho vs. Taker hasn't happened yet. The same way other great wrestlers like Angle or Benoit never faced Taker at WM. WWE has had several guys with the credibility to face Taker, but never seem to follow up on it. |
Theres only one man that can face Undertaker at Wrestlemania

Wouldn't it be fucked up for Taker to go 20-0, win a main title somehow, but get ended at 20-1 with a MITB cash-in?
|
So fucked up, brah.
|
Wouldn't it be fucked up if thedamndest was a giant tool
|
haha like a giant hammer or something, that'd be fucking crazy man haha

The scenario is likely as well, since it's apparent Taker won't be wrestling much longer. |
I could see one of five men...
Punk HHH Jericho Foley Orton |
y r u dudes such tryhard
|
I'm due to see Foley/Taker again to be honest
|
Quote:
The problem with that is using Foley vs Taker does nothing to put over a younger guy. I always saw Taker's streak as a way of getting the new generation over. It effectively makes stars just by association. Several guys could benefit from a fued with Taker @WM. While I do like the idea of Foley and Taker one last time, long term it doesn't do anything for WWE. At least using the streak to establish a young guy benefits WWE in the end... |
Quote:
I've never understood this viewpoint that the streak HAS to be used to put over a young guy. There are literally hundreds of ways to get a guy over. Using the streak for that seems like a cheap and lazy shortcut, and would feel like an anticlimactic end to something that has become really special. People say WWE doesn't gain anything by taker retiring undefeated or losing to an established star. Actually they gain an incredibly epic, match of the year candidate, that has a special kind of feel you can only get when two megastars collide. The kind of feel you won't get, no matter how well it's promoted, with an up and comer. It's like people can't just be satisfied with a great build, followed by an incredible match. There has to be some benefit for one of the midcarders that they go gay for, before taker can retire. Not everything has to be about pushing talents, even ones that deserve to be pushed. When it comes to Taker's streak, I'd rather see the clash of titans that we've had for the past few years, rather than the david and goliath match some people seem to want. If this crazy momentum and popularity CM Punk has gained lasts until Wrestlemania, I'd say go with him. Otherwise I'd have to go with Jericho. |
Jericho would be perfect, Foley would be an awesome end for his story, Punk would be perfect as well, but I'd rather see him with a younger guy personally.
I'll stand by the idea that if anyone ends the streak it's Cena, but I hope not. |
Evan Brawn
|
Well he won't, because all signs point to this being the last year for Taker, and Cena's got Rock this year.
If WWE can do this right, and transform Punk into an Austin or Rock type figure, not only could I see him facing taker, I could see him winning. Waaaaaaaaaay too early to tell right now though. |
Quote:
I like seeing the clash of the titans type scenario as much as anyone. However, thinking long term, it doesn't compute for me. Using it is the ultimate way to establish a younger wrestler. CM Punk would be a great example, cause him breaking the streak would almost immediately make him a legend. And in the process make him an even bigger name than he already is... |
