SmackDOWN! *Spoilers* 08/05

WWE Smackdown (Airing this Friday):

It's announced that Sheamus will face Mark Henry at SummerSlam but tonight he'll face The Great Khali.

Sheamus defeated The Great Khali

Natalya defeated AJ and continues the assault after the match.

Debuting new music, Daniel Bryan vs. Tyson Kidd. Winner, Daniel Bryan.

Zack Ryder comes out with WWE Intercontinental Champion Ezekiel Jackson. Ryder gets on the mic and Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase interrupt. Teddy Long ends up coming out and informs Ryder he will face Jackson up next.

WWE Intercontinental Champion Ezekiel Jackson defeated Zack Ryder. Triple H comes out and pedigrees Ryder after having the cameras cut off.

Mark Henry defeats Koslov. After the match Mark Henry attacks Koslov more and Sheamus runs out.

The Tag champs and JTG defeated Usos and Beretta.

Christian & R-Truth defeated Randy Orton and John Morrsion in the main event. Christian got the pin over Orton.

Jordan 08-02-2011 10:26 PM

WTF is with the pedigree to Ryder?

Juan 08-02-2011 10:28 PM

It says it was during commercial, but if not I'm sure there'll be a backstage segment explaining it

Lock Jaw 08-02-2011 10:28 PM

:y: for new music for Bryan.

Volare 08-02-2011 10:29 PM

DB with new music....remember if it has lyrics that's a good thing.

Lock Jaw 08-02-2011 10:30 PM

Pretty much anything is an improvement.

Volare 08-02-2011 10:30 PM

And now Beth AND Nattie are heels?? Fuck now we gotta wait longer on that Hart vs Phoenix feud.

Stickman 08-02-2011 10:30 PM

SOunds awful

JimmyMess 08-02-2011 10:35 PM

trying to picture Trips doing the pedigree in that suit.

And its also wtf....

Ermaximus 08-02-2011 10:50 PM

Is this the WWE's way of saying fuck you Ryder?

Xero 08-02-2011 10:53 PM

lol at Hunter Pedigreeing Ryder.

Knew they weren't serious about that push.

Ermaximus 08-02-2011 10:55 PM

First he has to take the pin to the Nexus leftovers, then he has to get his ass beat by Zeke and then eats a Pedigree for no reason. Well, I see someone asking for their release soon.

St. Jimmy 08-02-2011 11:18 PM

lol. I don't believe that Pedigree part is real, that sounds like bullshit.

GD 08-02-2011 11:20 PM

Wade Barret defeated Colt Cabana in a dark match.

Hey at least he's actually on television and not stuck doing nothing.

Skippord 08-02-2011 11:39 PM

I just wish Colt Cabana wrestled for WWE today

Xero 08-02-2011 11:40 PM

PWInsider does not have the Pedigree in the report.

"Zack Ryder tried to book Ezekiel Jackson vs. Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes. Teddy Long came out and said that Zack is not a GM, but an assistant, and he booked him into a match with Jackson. Jackson killed him. "

Ermaximus 08-02-2011 11:43 PM

What does Zack have against Zeke anyways? Why not just book him and Zeke against Ted and Cody then?

Volare 08-03-2011 12:02 AM

IC Title?

Corndad 08-03-2011 12:17 AM

What a difference a year makes. Barrett now in a dark match, when was Main Eventing SummerSlam last year. Even worse everyone is talking about that match, not because of him, because who he wrestled. Poor Wade.

Emperor Smeat 08-03-2011 01:25 AM

:wtf: the whole Ryder segment seems a bit odd considering last week he made a few matches and nobody stopped him. Maybe the WWE is considering turning him into a heel so the fans stop supporting him or just teasing him again like they did when they were in Long Island.

Would laugh if somehow a Ryder-Zeke feud results in a Broski Internet title vs IC title match.

Yeah, poor guy has only been on the main roster for a year and he wrestled a dark match??? Unacceptable

I was just pointing out how fast things can change. Heck a few months ago I went to a Raw taping just before Mania and R-Truth was in a 3 minute Dark Match against Ryder. Now he's become a regular Main Eventer. Just pointing out how fast things can change.

Jordan 08-03-2011 03:37 AM

Well a dark match against Colt Cabana is just as much a test for the opponent as the challenger. :shifty:

This reply is getting almost as stale as the post its referring to.

Skippord 08-03-2011 04:51 AM

to be fair, 90% of the time it's accurate.

Tazz Dan 08-03-2011 04:55 AM

I'm not disputing that. But everytime somebody makes a post regarding X talent who has only been around for a shot period of time, that same response is generally made. It's just getting old, that's all I'm saying.

Juan 08-03-2011 04:56 AM

I just can't wrap my head around the fact people are upset that a guy that has been in the company for 12 months wasn't WWE Champion 6 months into his stint.

Tazz Dan 08-03-2011 04:58 AM

I don't think he was getting at that. He was just pointing out that a year can make a difference in a wrestlers career. He never bitched about Wade being in the dark match or said he should be champion or doing more than what he is. He just pointed out a fact.

<font color=goldenrod>I don't care if Ryder jobs every week, as long as he gets to be on TV and get some mic time. He could quite easily be SmackDown's version of Santino.</font>

Mr. Nerfect 08-03-2011 07:34 AM

Sounds like a really weird edition of SmackDown!, to be honest. Not sure why they have Phoenix and Natalya both as heels. I guess Phoenix could just be a world-beating, no nonsense character. Also, I can't work out whether the WWE wants Ryder to be a babyface or a heel. LOL if the WWE actually did the Pedigree thing. That is just stupid and shows that they aren't learning at all. Ryder would be getting punished because he's actually trying to get himself over with the "WWE Universe."

I'm glad the Daniel Bryan project seems to be going ahead unscathed. Him vs. Kidd should be a fantastic match, and I'm glad that the WWE has given him new music. It seems like we'll get Bryan vs. Barrett at SummerSlam, for those wondering what the fuck Barrett is doing. That will not only be a great match, but it plays off their entire history in the WWE.

Even things like Sheamus beating Khali and Henry beating Kozlov sound weird. I know that Kozlov and JTG are with the SmackDown! crew for NXT tapings, but having four (technically six, but the WWE Tag Team Champions are meant to be allowable) RAW talents on the show is a bit weird. Morrison and Truth are at least high profile, and it builds off last week's singles matches.

Also, I'm really glad that the WWE are building up McGillicutty & Otunga as Tag Team Champions. Now all they need is a credible face team to challenge them.

Yeah, I've noticed that with Otunga & McGillicutty as well, alot more exposure in the last week compared to last month.

Supreme Olajuwon 08-03-2011 09:12 AM

They must be building for a Ryder/HHH clash at Mania where they battle for control of the company.

It's really the only option that makes any sense.

Mr. Nerfect 08-03-2011 09:25 AM

Ryder reported on his Twitter that he allegedly sold more shirts than The Rock at RAW.

Skippord 08-03-2011 09:39 AM

was he working as a vendor?

Nope. Just as the second hottest property in allllllllll of sports entertainment!

Here is a more detailed SmackDown! report:

Credit: Terri bey and Pwinsider.com

Show opened with a video collage of Wrestlemania 27.

Opening dark match saw Wade Barrett defeat Colt Cabana. Cabana is very good. I had never seen him before.

SUPERSTARS:

Alicia Fox defeated Kaitlin in a so so match. Both women did their best.

Brodus Clay defeated a local jobber. It is good to see Clay back. I think he works very well for a man his size. He showed a lot of agility in the match, in my opinion.

SMACKDOWN

The show started with a video of Mark Henry and his various attacks on Kane, and the Big Show, and Sheamus coming to the rescue. It is then announced Sheamus and Henry will face off at Summerslam. Sheamus then kicks off Smack Down with the first match of the evening:

Sheamus vs. Khali.

Sheamus does the best that he can with Khali. The match is what it is. Khali eventually tries to beat Sheamus with that death grip of his, but Sheamus gets out of it, and Sheamus finally defeats Khali with the Brogue Kick. Winner: Sheamus

I believe at this point there is a backstage interview between Josh Matthews and Randy Orton. Orton is asked about the No Holds Barred match with Christian for the World Heavyweight Championship. Orton says that he does have anger management issues, and Christian is going to help him work through them.

They also announce that Zach Ryder is going to have his own segment of the show, the name of which I forgot.

Natalya vs. AJ
Natalya and AJ come out for their match. It is a pretty decent match. There was a sloppy part where Nattie tries the sharpshooter, and I wasn't sure what AJ was trying to do to get out of it, but it looked sloppy to me. Anyway, eventually AJ succumbs to the Sharpshooter. Winner: Natalya. POST MATCH: Natalya goes bonkers, and attacks AJ after the match, including giving AJ a snap suplex on the outside. Natalya grabs a mic and says "Beth, you are so right sister, the days of these cuties are over." (paraphrased). Natalya evidently has turned heel.

Wade Barrett came out for commentary for the next match.

Daniel Bryan vs. Tyson Kidd
Daniel Bryan who came out to new music which I loved, and Tyson worked an AWESOME MATCH. I thought, even though the Main Event was also great, this was the best worked match on the show. Both men did a great job, especially Daniel Bryan. He is an awesome worker in the ring. After several exciting near falls, and Tyson Kidd's going after Daniel Bryan's right knee that Bryan was selling all match, Bryan eventually gets Kidd to submit. Winner: Daniel Bryan

I believe it was after this match, they show a commercial for "Haven" that airs this Friday after Smackdown on SYFY featuring Former 11 Time World Champion EDGE.

Zack Ryder Segment/Zack Ryder vs. Ezekiel Jackson
Zack Ryder comes out for his segment. He starts his promo, and talks about his "Woo.Woo.Woo." routine. Well, Intercontinental Champion Ezekiel Jackson interrupts and expresses his discontent over the 2 on 1 handicap he was put in last week by Ryder which he lost. Ryder tried to explain away his culpability when he is interrupted by Jackson's opponents from last week, Cody Rhodes (wearing a suit) and Ted DiBiase. Rhodes was cutting a promo, but I unfortunately wasn't able to catch what he said. Teddy Long comes out and tells Ryder that Ryder is NOT the GM, and Long was the one who could make matches. Long goes on to make Ryder vs Jackson with DiBiase and Rhodes BANNED from ringside.

The match itself between Ezekiel Jackson was alright. It was a glorified squash match. The end came with Ezekiel Jackson giving Ryder about 4 or 5 bodyslams and then the Rack and Ryder tapped out.
Winner: Ezekiel Jackson.

Mark Henry is shown onscreen coming out for his match.

Triple H/Zack Ryder Segment
Triple H's music hits. I am a huge Triple H fan. I have him in my top 5 best wrestlers ever list. I had not seen him live in any capacity in a very long time, so what happened here made the whole night. I do not know how much of the following will be shown on Smackdown, if any, but here is what happened:

Triple H comes out and Zack Ryder is still in the ring. Hunter then tells him that he is still kind of new to being the COO, and he has only been at this a couple of weeks and it is a lot of stress. He explains to Ryder that when he made him Teddy Long's assistant, all he meant was for Ryder to fetch coffee, sharpen pencils. (Zach Ryder's expressions of shock were priceless.). Hunter then tells Ryder that if Teddy Long's Viagra prescription ran out, Ryder was to go to the drug store to go get it, and things like that.

Hunter then gets all annoyed with Ryder talking about Vince and the board of directors and such. He then does something really cool. Hunter says that he needs to do something but it was just for the audience, and we were not to tell anyone. He put his finger to his lips shushing us. The lights were turned off. The huge screen was turned off. The only light that was on was the red light ( I presume that is the recording light.) and a spot light. Triple H then took off his jacket, and loosened his collar. He says something to Ryder that I didn't catch, and then gives Ryder the Pedigree, and the crowd just exploded. Of course, he tried to shush us again, and walked to the back and did his pose. Great segment.

Mark Henry vs. Vladimir Kozlov
This was not much of a match. This was yet another match to build up Mark Henry as this monster heel. Winner: Mark Henry POST MATCH: Henry puts Koslov' leg in chair and does his "stomp the leg" routine. Sheamus does his run in with a chair.

Backstage, Sheamus does a promo saying he has the luck of the Irish and talks about how Mark Henry has taken away others' dreams and careers, but that won't happen to him.

Christian does an interview and talks about how he has overcome Teddy Long, and the fans to be champion.

Main Event: Orton/Morrison vs. Christian (WHC)/R Truth

Great Main Event. All four men were fantastic. They all did a great job. Special kudos to Randy Orton. He is a bonafide superstar. When John Morrison was the baby face in peril, that crowd was just BEGGING for Orton to come in, at least from where I was sitting. I was on the floor, and that crowd was LOUD. When Orton finally made the hot tag near the end, and was going back and forth with Christian, and did his major maneuvers on Christian, that crowd exploded. They sounded really loud to me, anyway. Christian, R Truth, and Morrison were excellent as well. All four guys worked great. The ending came when Christian was finally able to defeat Randy with the Killswitch. Winner: Christian/R Truth. POST MATCH: Christian and R Truth run up the ramp in celebration.

Overall a VERY GOOD SHOW. Must watch: Main Event, Bryan/Kidd.

END OF SHOW.

DARK MATCH MAIN:

After the show, Teddy Long tells Christian that he will be defending his World Title in a Street Fight against Randy Orton. When Christian shows reluctance, Long tells Christian he better get to steppin'.

Christian (C) vs Randy Orton

After about a good 10 or so minute match, Christian retains his belt. Winner Christian . POST MATCH: Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase, and I believe R Truth all make run ins, and each man, including Christian get an RKO for their trouble so the crowd goes home happy. Randy Orton goes around the ring and shakes people's hands.

Mr. Nerfect 08-03-2011 09:53 AM

So the Triple H/Zack Ryder stuff did happen. Take it for what it's worth.

Supreme Olajuwon 08-03-2011 10:00 AM

That actually sounds like a decent segment if it makes it to air. Also sounds like an initiation thing more than burying Ryder.

St. Jimmy 08-03-2011 11:51 AM

Double Underhook Pushkiller. :y:

Hanso Amore 08-03-2011 12:56 PM

I hope it does make TV. And HH keeps burying young guys liek Ryder. And it plays into a Story with Punk. Ryder and Punk uniting as allies against HHH would be hot. IWC vs the WWE.

Make a long build up on how HHH buries the young talent that he doesnt like. Like Punk, and Ryder. Punk can go on about how HHH always protected his spot. blah blah.

Would be good. Keep letting Punk blur the shoot line.

Ermaximus 08-03-2011 03:14 PM

Wait, wasn't Johnny Curtis supposed to "debut" this week?

VSG 08-03-2011 04:37 PM

On a super dark match

I wanted to add some more notes to your SmackDown spoilers from the tapings in Lexington, KY last night.

* Natalya's heel turn on AJ Lee was pretty good. She spoke into the camera and said "Beth Phoenix I'm with you. These days of the cute Divas are over."

* Zack Ryder's segment was his State of the Showski.

* Randy Orton did a backstage segment talking about his anger management issues and beating Christian at SummerSlam.

* The new Diva backstage with Teddy Long was NXT Rookie Aksana, now a brunette. I barely caught it but it looked like she was trying to put the moves on Teddy.

* Triple H hitting Zack Ryder with a Pedigree off-camera surprised everyone. Triple H came out and said the hardest part of his new job was dealing with talents and brought up CM Punk, John Cena and Randy Orton before starting to put Ryder down, cutting the cameras mid-way. Triple H had the lights dimmed, cameras cut and said he was about to relieve some stress in the form of a Pedigree on Ryder.

* Vladimir Kozlov was taken out on a stretcher after Mark Henry squashed him and beat him up, injuring his leg.

* Johnny Curtis had a promo that aired and he will finally debut next week.

Jura 08-03-2011 08:19 PM

Aksana? I'd much prefer Maxine.

I assume that anytime Mistah H's gets upset at someone, he cuts the cameras off so he can pedigree them..brilliant.

It's a start. Definitely better than Rise of the Valkyries. They just need to stick something identifiable in front of it now. Maybe start with a distorted "Rise of the Valkyries" and fade into the new song?

Just been flicking through Smackdown, nothing in front or different to it so far. Only the first time he's used it though

Ultra Mantis 08-05-2011 05:41 PM

The HHH / Zack segment didn't make TV, and he even looked pretty good against Zeke. No idea why it was referred to as a glorified squash since Ryder actually got in just as much offense as the IC champ.

Lock Jaw 08-05-2011 05:43 PM

Did he get as many SCOOP SLAMS, though?

This was a very good episode and I must admit i'd much rather have a Natalya vs AJ match at Summerslam than Kelly vs Beth.

Jura 08-05-2011 11:53 PM

Nothing sloppy in the AJ vs Natalya match except maybe Nat must be wearing a different top than usual as her tits were bouncing everywhere. Pretty good performance by those two. Bryan's new music doesn't work well on tv and these Morrison parkour segments are unnecessary.

#BROKEN Hasney 08-06-2011 03:58 AM

Surprised the internet didn't explode with Zack Ryder's state of the showski and CM Punk Vs. Jericho in the vault match.

this is the best thing they could do for Barrett right now. Keep him away from the spotlight and even TV for a time. The audience will eventually tire of you if you are always on TV and especially in Barrett's case, who was in the spotlight forever. You got to give the audience a break and then you can bring him back in a main role.

In the old days, wrestlers left every few years and were eventually brought back. This is how they stayed refreshing to the audience. Now and days, people are just put on the low level shows, go to FCW or are kept in low profile feuds nobody cares about. Or they become released or injured.

I bet he's back in the spotlight again by early next year. Maybe Survivor Series.

...Well, if it helps in any way, had he been WWE Champion 6 months into his stint, these same people who are now asking for him to be Champion, would've criticized the WWE for "giving him the belt too early".

MoFo 08-06-2011 11:53 AM

The Natalya heel turn wasnt good at all, dunno why that report said it was...she just did the exact same as Beth did. Not that it matters, womens wrestling and all.

Barrett and Cole trashing Danielson was highlight of the night, and the Punk/Jericho Vault match.

That was the point of it, her and Beth will be the dominate heels of the women's division now.

Lock Jaw 08-06-2011 01:47 PM

Natalya's was more impressive though cause she beat AJ down more.

Also, when did Smackdown start doing these stupid "From the Vault" segments? I feel like it is a huge waste of time. Use that time to do something with your current talent.

Jura 08-06-2011 02:46 PM

Recently I think. I was watching an older SD and heard Michelle McCool's music and I thought she came back but it was a match from the vault.

The Vault matches started a few weeks after the draft, some of them are pretty cool but yeah with so many guys on the roster not being used it does seem a bit of a waste of TV time.

Also, when did Smackdown start doing these stupid "From the Vault" segments? I feel like it is a huge waste of time. Use that time to do something with your current talent.

We've had that from the vault thing for fucking ages, sometimes they show the most ridiculous of matches but recently they've started showing some actual classic ones like punk/jericho. Would rather more effort be put into the show though.

I love how over the years the MITB winners are still referred to as 'Mr. Money in the Bank'... even though that originally came from Rob Van Dam shaking up his whole 'Mr. PPV', 'Mr. Monday Night' thing.

Great show by the way. :y:

lol yah, I watched part of Smackdown for the first time in years/since they've been doing this vault gimmick the other week and the match was Gail Kim vs. Michelle McCool from like 2008

Lock Jaw 08-06-2011 04:30 PM

The vault thing couldn't have started a few weeks after the draft or been around for ages, because I was watching Smackdown regularly then.

Recently missed a few weeks, so it must be a fairly recent addition to the show.

Was the match from an old Smackdown ep? I remember them having an excellent match on that show before Kim was moved to Raw.

They've been on the youtube / international version since then. Big Show and Kane were tag champs against the Corre when it started & their match directly followed show vs HHH from the vault. Back to back big show. If you're watching it on TV maybe they haven't been showing it "on air" until now.

Jura 08-06-2011 04:59 PM

They may be showing it on international versions then since I have not seen this vault thing until recently.

It was from an episode of Smackdown yeah (no idea if it was before Gail went to RAW or anything) but there was nothing excellent about this match. Was the definition of a meh, unremarkable, throwaway TV match.

Hmmmm. There was no From The Vault on the version I watched this week.

Not complaining, there usually is and it usually annoys me that it's taking time from pushing new guys/angles.

It's on international versions because of the number of ads.

If you watch Raw live in the UK, because they're not allowed to show as many ads as the US, they just make the Raw logo dance for a while after breaks.

In other words, it's not taking time from new guys/angles.

The RAW logo never seems to stop dancing :(

I never get the From the Vault segments on the Australian version of SmackDown! we get.

Personally, I feel that it was a good show. Sheamus is actually getting really over as a face. Wade Barrett is so good at talking. I hope he and Daniel Bryan get a match at SummerSlam. Bryan's work with Tyson Kidd was really good, too. Josh Mathews did a good job of pointing out how good Kidd is when the commentary drifted from the match too much.

Zack Ryder already has a personalised SmackDown! nameplate. I don't think the guy is getting de-pushed or anything. I like the idea of the WWE giving him air-time on both shows. I can't work out if they want me to like Ryder or not. I think a tag team match pitting Jackson & Ryder against Rhodes & DiBiase would have been better. Ryder could have played the face-in-peril, Ryder could have blind tagged in when Ryder was looking to set Rhodes up for the Torture Rack and been all "I got this, bro!" only for his chat with Zeke to allow Cody to get in a sneaky Cross Rhodes for the pin:

* Cody Rhodes gets another non-title victory over Big Zeke -- setting up their future Intercontinental Title match.

* DiBiase keeps winning, since Rhodes has said he'd bag DiBiase if he lost again.

* Whatever they are doing with Ryder and Jackson gets done.

The only segment that seemed really weird was the six-man tag. They never really explained why JTG was on SmackDown!. And while I do love the way they are trying to use McGillicutty & Otunga as a proper team, and how The Usos have been lately -- it seemed really unnecessary. They could have given more time to Bryan and Kidd.
