Wrestling Revolution Project
http://jeffkatz.typepad.com/.a/6a012...559f729970c-pi
I don't know if anyone else has been following this, but Jeff Katz (the guy behind Geek Week) has started a new promotion via Kickstarter. He's been releasing the roster one name a day. He's going to do one per weekday until the whole roster has been named. Monday 8/22 - Colt Cabana Tuesday 8/23 - Dr. Luther Wednesday 8/24 - Ken Doane Thursday 8/25 - Alex Reynolds Friday 8/26 - Kenny Omega Monday 8/29 - MVP Tuesday 8/30 - Sami Callihan Wednesday 8/31 - Daivari Thursday 9/1 - Emil Sitoci Friday 9/2 - Luke Gallows Monday 9/5 - Prince Devitt Tuesday 9/6 - Ben Muth Wednesday 9/7 - Amazing Red Thursday 9/8 - "Psycho" Mike Rollins Friday 9/9 - Lance Storm (producer) Monday 9/12 - Karl "Machine Gun" Anderson Tuesday 9/13 - Joey Ryan Wednesday 9/14 - Shawn Spears Thursday 9/15 - Pat Buck Friday 9/16 - Trisha LaFache Monday 9/17 - Adam Pearce Tuesday 9/18 - Tim Thatcher Wednesday 9/19 - Kevin Matthews Thursday 9/20 - Shaun Ricker Friday 9/21 - Tommy Dreamer (producer) Katz is hyping that WRP will have a more traditional 3-act story structure and is being planned in seasons like a regular scripted TV show. There's a lot more info on geekweek.com, but I think this is an interesting concept. I hope it turns out to be good. Thoughts? |
I read about this recently and it does sound interesting. I'll probably try to watch the first 'season'. I didn't know he was releasing the roster one name at a time though, I'll have to keep checking back.
He's got my attention, that's for sure. I'm intrigued as to how the format will make the stories more interesting. He also says that every character/wrestler will have a story arc and a purpose. I want to see if he keeps up with that promise, because that would make the show packed as hell.
Just another indy fed.
I heard he's releasing it in seasons on Netflix.
Kenny Omega announced today.

Ken Doane and Kenny Omega are pretty good. I'm guessing Dr. Luther isn't the Canadian trained by the Harts/worked in Japan a lot/big friend of Jericho Dr. Luther?
apparently it is the same Dr. Luther. Huh.
MVP announced today. This is a hell of a "get" for WRP.
Looking forward to this.
Announcement of MVP made me sit up.
Intrigued now. |
Sami Callihan announced today.
I really don't like the idea of doing wrestling as a TV season.
Dunno, I kinda like it in theory. Knowing what you want to do with a character, having a goal for the end of the season for each character is interesting.
Daivari is announcement #8.
Sweet, Daivari and MVP have gotten me pumped.
Sounds like an interesting concept. Chikara sort of have "seasons" and in the past have had arching storylines with plot twists and hammy internet promo segments, not sure if they still do that since I haven't been keeping up with it the past year.
If they get Chuck Taylor and Jimmy Jacobs on board I would be inclined to watch. |
Yeah, Jacobs would make this very interesting, since he's always been character driven.
Either way, this will be different. I'm curious. Different isn't always good though. |

BOOM BOOM
Guess that tells us enough about their wellness policy.
Or lack thereof. |
No idea who Emil Sitoci is, but he's the latest addition.
Luke Gallows brings the roster to ten.
Gallows. Neat.
This looks awesome.

Yeah, Emil Sitoci looks like a star. Here's his blurb from the Geek Week website:
"The son of a Turkish national champion boxer and a Dutch national gymnastics champion (and Olympic competitor) mother, Emil Sitoci has athletics in his blood. Trained as a child in both judo and gymnastics, Sitoci quickly combined his athletic skills with a love of professional wrestling and set off on a career inside the squared circle. Debuting for Netherlands-based FCW at only 17 years old, Sitoci quickly found himself rising through the ranks of the European wrestling scene. He would soon come to America, where he would study under the tutelage of Chris Hero who would go on to dub Sitoci, "The Tremendous One." He would then return to Europe, capturing championship gold for the WXW promotion. While battling opponents in the ring, Sitoci continued to educate himself earning a Masters degree in Film & Television Sciences. Competing in locales ranging from Africa to France to Germany on down, Sitoci continues to display the in-ring intellectual curiousity that has made him one of the most diverse wrestling talents in the world. He now stands poised to return to America and make his biggest mark yet as a member of the WRP cast." Sounds like a promising talent to me. I also like the bits written on MVP and Daivari. It sounds like it will be a wrestling promotion aimed at a "geekier" audience, capable of handling more human and interesting storylines. For those wondering, they aren't presenting Daivari as an Iranian heel -- but rather an American of Iranian decent who grew up watching Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels perform, was inspired to follow his dreams, and ended up even defeating his hero at one point. I'm also curious to see what they do with Dr. Luther. |
hope they get Cliff Compton
love him |
Actually, I don't mind me some Domino.
I don't know what Johnny Jeter is doing these days, but I hope they sign him.
My only concern about this is that, no matter how much they say otherwise...with so many WWE alumni I feel that there are bound to be a bunch of bullshit digs at WWE thrown in, which will make the whole thing feel a bit TNA-ish.
Still extremely intrigued. And I agree, Cliff Compton being in here would be amazing. Not sure how big the roster will be though. |
No one will watch this.
The thing is, the roster can change pretty easily. The idea of doing "seasons" is one that sets this company apart. If there's no room for Cliff Compton, you can always bring him in for season two, and give someone like Sami Callihan a break. They'll be finer storyline arcs, in my opinion.
Prince Devitt just got announced. Hell yeah.
So, according to MVP, the wrestlers are NOT going to be the characters we're familiar with - they'll be all new inventions for this program.
Dunno if you guys heard me or not, I said they got PRINCE DEVITT in on this

Benoit!?

Yes.

Didn't post yesterday for the announcement of Ben Muth, a former college football star who trained with Lance Storm.
But today felt worthy of a new post. The 13th member of the WRP roster is... Amazing Red! |

The signings of Ben Muth (Football star trained by Lance Storm? Come on!) and Prince Devitt has definitely gotten my attention. Excited to see how this project goes.
How would you describe Muth? All I'm getting from Google is Stanford, retired due to injury, and trained with Lance Storm. Did he do something else I'm missing?
That's essentially it. Hey -- if you trained with Lance Storm, you're alright with me.

By the way, this reminds me a lot of Wrestling Society X the more I think about it. I'm hoping it takes the good from WSX (unique characters/backgrounds) and gets rid of the bad (over produced, horrible special effects, etc.)
Horrible announcing as well.

Yeah, Lance Storm being a "producer" for this is definitely a good thing. I am growing more and more excited by this project. Hopefully it takes off. There is a part of me that is still hopeful Paul Heyman is involved, somehow, too. Heyman and MVP were at one point rumoured to be hopping into bed together after discussing a "different" wrestling project. Even if they just get Paul to be a color commentator on the show, I will be very happy.
I can't remember if I already posted this, but the first TV tapings will be October 11-13 in Hollywood. Very excited about this whole thing. I really wish I was on the west coast. For many reasons, but at the moment I wish I didn't live on the opposite side of the country from this.
This looks pretty mint... Anything with Kenny Omega I am in!
Didn't get a chance to post this yesterday, but Joey Ryan is in.
Dr. Luthur? Wow...
Shawn Spears is in.
What happens if someone gets injured?
Quote:
I blew my back out for 2 weeks from a sneeze once, sooooo....
If you get injured, your character gets killed off by TERRORISTS.
It would be funny if all of the characters had understudies just in case. Like if Ezekiel Jackson was injured, Ezekiel Jackson would be played by Ahmed Johnson the following week.
Some people shall get to sit on VIP dinning tables.
Roster updated through Thursday 9/22. Curious as to what role Adam Pearce is going to play, whether or not they'll acknowledge that he's the NWA Champion.
Tommy Dreamer joined Lance Storm today as a producer for WRP.
I kind of hope that Adam Pearce brings out the NWA World Heavyweight Championship with him.
This has started taping. Prince Devitt reportedly got pulled out by New Japan. HOWEVER in his stead they have added Chris Hero AND Chris Masters.
Here are some notes on various characters: SPOILER: show Can't wait for this. |
BRICK SHITHOUSE is an awesome wrestling name. Kinda wish I had thought of that.

Just a heads-up to you guys, I've met Emil Sitoci quite a few times, and he is an incredible talent. Easily one of the biggest rising-stars in the Dutch/German/European wrestling scene.
I saw Emil Sitoci on the website, and the dude just looks and reads like a star. Personally, I think the WWE will pick him up once this WRP thing concludes. I could see Ben Muth using it as a stepping stone to the WWE, too. Come on? A big dude trained by Lance Storm?
so when and how does one watch this?
I'd read it was going to be on Netflix, though I don't know when
