I like the new visuals. Hope the environmental enhancements don't slow things down.
|
Seems fucking cool. I'll always prefer the frantic counter battles of DOA 1 tho.

Motherfucker, wonder who else from VF will crossover. The fighting systems are similar enough for a full blown versus title.
Not digging the cinematic cuts during stage gimmick events, utterly unneeded. Love the new graphics engine, none of that 'doll fighter' thing from before. |
Awesome.
I tell you what would really make me mark though, some Fighting Vipers characters. Throw Candy in there fo sheezy. |
LOL, just picked up and played DOA4 for the first time on 360 like a couple weeks ago. But yeah, when I saw it was made in 2005, I figured they couldn't wait much longer for a sequel. Glad to see it's finally been announced and worked on a bit, looks good so far.

They can do without the camera cuts before the stage interaction but otherwise the game looks pretty wild.
|
Rumoured roster list:
SPOILER: show I'm not sure I know who everyone is on that list as I've only played DOA 1,2 & 4. So are any of these characters new or from other DOA games? |
There's fucking three Virtua Fighters in there.
Mila and Rig are new. |
Akira was confirmed awhile ago, but the other two VF people are interesting.

Actually the new models and designs are way less sexualized than DOA4, breasts actually should move differently between outfits, and clothes getting wet during a fight is actually a cool effect for a reportedly grittier fighting game.
I don't see contradiction at all. But this is internetz. |

Engine looks unchanged from the demo vids I seen. That doesn't bother me too much. Story lol. I think there's a leaked roster around somewhere. Reveals somemore Virtua Fighter characters if its true.

Pre-order goodies and the stuff in the collector's edition were revealed recently by Tecmo.
Only Gamestop and Amazon will have pre-order extras. Quote:

4 player tag battles was a norm for this series for years, and it's still a selling point for me. |
"Tag Team Action", eh? :naughty:

I like the English voices. |
Helena sounds like Michelle from 'Allo 'Allo.
|
A brand new character named Mila was supposedly leaked recently.

Boxer maybe?
|
The girl on the right (is that Mila?) looks like a female Heinz from Kensei. If she is German and/or a pitfighter, she'll be an obvious rip-off, in my opinion.
http://ks353422.kimsufi.com/database...-00600/ss6.jpg |
Fighting games do that. A lot.
|
I know. Akira and Ryu, for example look similar with their outfits. It's no big deal if Mila just looks a bit like Heinz. If she turns out to be a pit fighter, that's when I'd get suspicious and think someone at Team Ninja had been looking to failed games for "inspiration".
Incidently, Kensei is a pretty cool PS1 3D fighter. I prefered it to Tekken, myself. Worth giving it a spin if you come across it. It's not big budget so there are no endings and, in all honesty, almost all secret characters are just clones of other characters but it's still fun, I feel. It has a lot of counters and reversals etc. |
Never got to play that game.
|
Just preordered the Limited Edition. It's not out until the 28th of this month, here, so I could always cancel it. Hopefully I wont have to, though.
So, anyone else getting the game at launch? I could have sworn there was some kind of character editor in the game but I can't find any mention of it. |
It's not really an editor but you seem to be able to add accessories like glasses:
<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ukCv1jQJUT0?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Won't be getting this at launch, I wouldn't pay full price for a DOA game.
|
I've enjoyed most of the DOA games I played. I had DOA 1,2 and 4. 1 was fun, 2 was fantastic and I had gotten really good at that. 4 was a let down for me, maybe because I picked it up years too late and had played better fighters that had been released since.
I'm hoping 5 will be as enjoyable as 2 was. |
Not the best example of the game but, still.
<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/GrVyj9XSu2I?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
I played them all. Was really deep into part 3 and 4. DOA2 was my first. Love the tag mode with four players.
|
I only missed out on 3 because I never had an Xbox. I remember trying to get the multitap to work for the PS2 but I can't recall if I did. I don't think I did because I'd remember playing four players.
I do remember my friends being impressed that I could do Hayabusas ninja driver thing. I could knock them into them air, jump up to grab them and even add the spin on the final part of the move. Not sure what it is with me and spinning slam moves. I was hoping some of the guys here would be getting DOA5 at launch or not long after so I could take part in the four player tag matches and, hopefully, those group/stable fights with one character after another. |
I'll see to it a character in Versus Arts has a spinning piledriver thing as a nod to you.
|
Cool. Is that just an idea or is that something you and your group have actually started to work on? Like XNA style or something.
|
My first was DOA 4. Enjoyed it, but the cpu was infuriating at times. Like it had rubberband logic, where after it started to get close to losing a round, it would just counter everything.
Enjoyed going through and unlocking all the characters and costumes though. |
I think I got to the end boss and only beat her once or twice before moving on to another game.
If anyone doesn't know, DOA5 wont have any DLC characters. Given that the LE comes with swimsuit DLC and there are preorder bonuses of Bunnygirl and Devil DLC outfits, I think we'll get a ton of outfits as DLC. My bet says they'll include school girl, leather, "naughty santa" and other "sexy/fetish" styles on top of general skimpiness. |

Tengu in DOA2 is the closest a boss character has gotten me to openly crying. |
You don't play many SNK fighters, do you?

Are you recording speech for characters or using stock grunts etc? Quote:

I would like vocals but perhaps in a sequel. We are bottom tier on budget! Quote:
I never played SNK arcade modes on anything but easy, unless I need to unlock a character that needs arcade beaten on a higher setting. I don't remember being so frustrated, though. |

VF's Pai joins the game, confirming the leaked roster list some dick revealed months ago. She will be the last guest fighter. After Sarah, Pai was my second main in the VF series, cementing even further how DOA5 completely replaces VF5 for me. |
Milas moves actually do look a lot like Hienz's moves. She's Hienz with boobs, not that she's a bad character because of it.
I never got into VF so the guest characters don't mean as much to me as it did when Tekken popped up in SF or Marvel fighting Capcom. |
I was deep into VF2 and then VF4 (completely missed VF3). It's okay... I just never connected with the overall system and the kind of gameplay it rewards (despite pretty good moveset concepts). I always likened DOA as 'VF but fun' due to their very similar play style, and with VF guest characters in DOA5 I get a pretty good deal here. I'll be on DOA5 eventually, always liked the tag mode.
I really like Mila and Rig, and the cutscenes are shockingly impressive for their first go at English VAs. DOA is one of those especially Japanese series so I didn't expect that. |
Anyon got DOA5? I got it for Christmas. I'm liking it so far. It reminds me of DOA2, which was my favourite. DOA4 felt too different for some reason but 5, I was able to pick up and play right away as if I hadn't stopped playing 2.
|
Loading times are weird, though. Moving from the main menu to the control select screen takes something like 10 seconds.
Also, taunting is disabled by default and you need to use custom controls to access it. |
I'd like to play DOA5. Haven't played DOA for years, but I wouldn't get it full price. Love the 4ply tag mode, that makes the game for me.
|
I'm not sure what the game cost because it was a gift from my brother. I intended to buy the LE on release before I realised I couldn't afford it so I'd say full price is fair enough.
I timed how long it takes the gamne to load. I pressed A to return to the main menu. It took it 27 seconds to load up the main menu. Seems a bit much. |
That's strange. I tend to install fighting games now since I rather not wait any longer than I have to between matches.
|
That IS with it installed.:|
|
Oh boy.
|
I feel I should update this loading thing. Getting from the main menu to character select takes a while to load and then first fight (in Arcade for example) takes some time to load but then the rest of the fights load up almost right away. Just 2 seconds to save, right after the victory pose and onto the next fight. No loading screen or blackness.
Oddly, you can't jump straight back to the main menu afterwards. If you finish Arcade or Survival etc, it shows you the scoreboard and tells you to press A to go to the menu. I press A, nothing. I press A again, nothing. I bash A repeatedly, still nothing. I wait about 20 seconds and then press A and it goes to the menu. No idea why. I'm liking the game alot. The environmental hazards etc are cool and some are pretty far fetched. I had family over last night and managed to get my aunt to have a match with me. She seemed a bit lost with all the explosions etc but had a good time. She was on of the recieving end of one of the more far fetched environmental hazards I've seen so far. Fighting in a combat zone, I knocked her into a bunch of sandbags and a giant tanks randomly burst through the wall, smashing into her character. Never knew DOA5 had "finishers" or "Power Blows" as they call them. When your health is at 50% or lower, you can charge up a certain move that unleashes a combo or something. Apparantly, these allow you to aim where to send your opponent into environmental hazards (it launches them straight across the stage) but I've not seen any evidence of how to do that. Also played a few rounds with my 70 year old grandmother. Is it a good thing or a bad thing when a 70 year old can pull off 6 hit combos the first time she picks up the controller? Just for the record, I wasn't just playing versus the elderly. Fought my brother etc a few times too. Edit: Story mode isn't kidding when it says "Story" 5 minutes of cutscene, fight, 3 minutes of cutscenes, fight etc. Not complaining because the cutscenes are entertaining and well done. |
The super move things are new to the series. It's been added to sell the idea of it being 'Fighting Entertainment'.
Many DOA combos are pretty easy, the game's system is streamlined in general. Gets you to the metagame faster. I was surprised to see the story be the quality it is. |
I noticed "Fighting Entertainment" popping up on the box and in the stage select. I thought, with it being the name of the wrestling arena, it was some kind of WWE Sports Entertainment thing.
Bass has the Rock Bottom as a move. They've just renamed it Bass Bottom. |
That's actually fucking awesome.
I like the idea of 'Fighting Entertainment', it shows that a developer is comfortable with a less hardcore fighting system and just celebrating themselves. I consider Midway's Injustice pretty much that. One could make an argument that the DBZ and Naruto were pretty much this before the term was coined. |
Bass Bottom pretty much looks exactly like this one and can be alternated from left handed to right, depending on which side of you is closer to the opponent:
<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/HAnOI__cJ2k?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Bass also does the Scott Steiner style Muscle Pump and Kiss. The sort of mechanical raising of one arm and then kissing his bicep. Also, Bass has a taunt that does actual damage (I figured out how to taunt btw, some characters have multiple) . I've thought a few stages looked like they were referencing something else but that may just be me. Hot Zone (a middle east war zone) looks like a modern FPS stage. Another stage reminds me so much of Big Shell from MGS2. The music and even the stage itself, right down to the seagulls everywhere. As I said, I thought the "Fighting Entertainment" stage was some kind of Japanese redesign of WWE/TNA. I'm not sure if it was in DOA3 or 4 but there are running grabs now. Tina does a Shining Wizard, for example. Also, some character outfits change the characters name. For example, Bass has an outfit that has him as a wrestling persona. Tights, vest, mask and cape and he's renamed "Mr. Strong". Liking some of the things in the stages. Just fighting on top of a hotel and throw my opponent into the neon sign. The sign circuits and falls forward. Right on to the elevated train tracks. A second lader and entire train hit the sign, derailed and flew passed us, ploughing into the wall right next to us. |
Quote:
I don't think many fighters can do that. They seem to be one or the other. Capcom have tried to make it work for both with this whole easy input thing but that doesn't quite work. I like the way the game is light hearted but not in a "joke" kind of way, if that makes sense. |
I get it. I enjoy the DOA series, I just can't be arsed to buy it full price. Once it's here there will lots of tag matches and shit talking. I like a game where more people can play.
|
The game doesn't have that Team Gauntlet mode that was in DOA2. Hoping that's DLC.
|
Unlikely, that was a specific mode and we are dealing with a slightly different dev team here.
|
I don't see why not. It's exactly the same as survival but two players. It would hardly break budget or push the programmers skills to the limit.
|
Sometimes it isn't budget or time, just what they feel should be in the feature set. Something I just came to accept overall.
|
Finished the story mode. It was pretty cool, actually. I was surprised by how even the AI was. With Capcom doing what they did with guys like Seth in Arcade mode and with the way the boss in DOA4 behaved, I was expecting there to be a point that it was more frustrating than fun but it never happened.
Also, found out Bass has another WWE move and they didn't even bother to rename it. He has a throw combo called F5 and it actually is the F5. Blacked it out incase anyone would rather play as or against him on their own and discover it. You never know. |
It's a fighting game, let it all out.

Should be up in English soon. |
I will return to DOA with this. I miss the tag battles there.
|
I never got to play it online. Wouldn't mind trying it out. DOA5 was fun.
|
I also like the fact the DOA5U seems to have a collectors edition that include a Kasumi mouse pad with her breasts acting as wrist cushions.

Did anyone watch the movie? I did. I want my five bucks back
|
Movie was much better than I thought. Certainly one of the more fun videogame movies.
