Anyone else psyked that Mark Henry is champion?

He is easily one of the least decorated champions ever. But man, he is my favorite thing going right now.

Theo Dious 09-20-2011 10:07 PM

I'm excited to see where this goes. I hope he can stay healthy for this.

VSG 09-20-2011 10:08 PM

Go get a job, goober!

Maluco 09-20-2011 10:10 PM

It's definately something different. We like to critique everything WWE does, and although it has taken 15 years, he has been booked perfectly, and the courage it took to put him over so cleanly against Orton has made things even more interesting in my opinion.

Am not going to say too much though, with HiaC just 2 weeks away, it might not last long.

BigDaddyCool 09-20-2011 10:11 PM

Why should I?

Mark Henry is fantastic. Leave BDC alone.

Dante69 09-20-2011 11:54 PM

Inadequacy 09-21-2011 12:00 AM

Actually pretty pumped about this. He's been deserving for a few years now.

Kapoutman 09-21-2011 12:04 AM

I'm in love with Mark Henry right now. Never thought they could make me care about him, but here we are.

screech 09-21-2011 12:06 AM

I've become a Mark Henry fan over the past few months. Can't believe I am pumped about him being champion.

Kapoutman taking the thoughts from my head there.

#BROKEN Hasney 09-21-2011 01:40 AM

Not even slightly. His promos are OK, but his matches have bored the pies put of me still. Ortons been brilliant lately and now he has to work with this lumbering oaf. What a pity.

Anybody Thrilla 09-21-2011 02:54 AM

I didn't really want Henry to take the title heading into NOC, but watching the match, I started pulling for him, and I marked (no pun intended) out when he won. I really dig the clean finish, too.

Mr. Nerfect 09-21-2011 04:44 AM

They put Henry over Orton strong and clean. He's officially a main eventer in my eyes, now. Not that my eyes mean shit. But it's certainly a defining career moment for the man, and while I am not the biggest mark for the guy -- I have really gone to appreciate moments of his work. Certainly a feel-good story for a man that used to be universally panned as a useless waste of space and money.

DaVe 09-21-2011 07:08 AM

Been saying it each Smackdown/Henry thread in the last couple months. He's a real badass right now.

Autobahn 09-21-2011 07:52 AM

I never thought I would ever be happy to see Mark Henry as champion.

I also never thought I would Like Ortons work as much as I have been lately either.

Very pleasant surprises.

Blue Demon 09-21-2011 08:36 AM

BigDadyBitch losing his shit again

Ermaximus 09-21-2011 10:30 AM

If Henry loses the title back to Orton at HiaC, I will lose all faith in WWE's ability to book properly.

Christian's first title reign=2-5 days.
Christian's second title reign=1 month?
ADR's first title reign=1 month

The whole let's change the title from new guy A back to Cena/Orton is getting old.

Xero 09-21-2011 10:39 AM

Yeah, there is no fucking way they can have Henry lose at HIAC. After the two promos he's cut so far, it would absolutely destroy his credibility.

And Henry is fucking awesome. He's a big reason why I try to keep up with SmackDown!. I'm also looking forward to someone actually being able to take the big man down. It'll get them over huge. Essentially, they have the tools in Henry to make two new legit main eventers - himself and whoever ultimately beats him.

Ermaximus 09-21-2011 10:40 AM

Then again, this IS the WWE we're talking about Xero. WWE likes to build guys up (see Kingston, Kofi) and then just drop them out of the blue.

Xero 09-21-2011 10:43 AM

Well, yeah, that's true. I'm always open to ball dropping with WWE.

JERRY 09-21-2011 10:49 AM

henry big man but like big glass shard so i think injury will lose the title to him.
i think he okay.

Jordan 09-21-2011 11:13 AM

I really dig the new story and like all of you I really hope WWE keeps the belt on him for a good run. I could however, see at HIAC Henry dominating until the lights go off and we see the fire and pyro explode to see the return of KANE who then rips the door off the cell and takes out Henry and Orton both, maybe putting them in the hospital so we don't have a winner and we have a real Survivor Series 3 or 4 way if the decide to add Christian, that would be a great match that could help define the new "Suvivor Series". Whoever won that match would be a true Survivor. /dreams

Ermaximus 09-21-2011 11:18 AM

If WWE was smart, Henry would hold the title until AT LEAST Elimination Chamber. There you could have Henry, Orton, Sheamus, Christian, a returning Kane, and let's say Sin Cara for shits and giggles. From here it wouldn't matter who won, I'd prefer Sheamus or Christian, but whatever. Then at WM, have whoever the title holder is face Danielson.

Xero 09-21-2011 11:24 AM

I still say he should hold it into Mania because it would add to the epicness of whoever beats him.

Innovator 09-21-2011 11:29 AM

Yes I'm psyched. Very psyched. Mark Henry finally reached his potential and found a believable angle to come from. The 15 year vet who got shit on finally figured out he's an angry, big, strong black guy. That's a believable guy.

And he still has an amazing theme song.

Xero 09-21-2011 11:32 AM

Unfortunately, I don't think he'll make up the millions they spent on him all the years he was a complete joke.

XCaliber 09-21-2011 11:48 AM

I'm not but don't get me wrong I'm still pleased that WWE finally recognized all his years of service by finally giving him a real monster push like they did his reign is gonna suck though I just know it.

MoFo 09-21-2011 12:01 PM

They should Mark Henry defend the belt in the Rumble match, come out at no.1, and eliminate every single motherfucker after him.

Agreed, if built up properly it could get Bryan over amazingly well as the one guy who managed to beat Mark Henry. Although they'd have to make it believable that Bryan won somehow, which would be difficult as Big Show, Kane, Sheamus, Orton and whoever else from now til then wouldn't have been able to topple Henry.

JERRY 09-21-2011 12:40 PM

The Gold Standard 09-21-2011 01:44 PM

I don't mind Henry as the champion. However, I do not want him going into Mania as the champ. He should hold it until the Rumble and lose it to someone there. It will probably be Orton or Sheamus.

Personally, i think a Bryan v Henry match at Mania for the World Heavyweight Championship would be terrible.

Xero 09-21-2011 01:50 PM

It doesn't even need to be Bryan. He could just drop MITB beforehand. It could be someone they bring up or want to push to the top. There's plenty of time to do something with someone that hasn't wrestled Henry.

I don't think Bryan vs Henry would be terrible. It wouldn't be a technical masterpiece, but Henry can play the big strong man perfectly, and Bryan can play his speed, strikes, aerial and submissions against the monster. It would require them to actually give Bryan a mean streak from at least the Rumble, but it COULD be buyable enough, and very entertaining.

This match is going to be the throw away main event anyway so it won't matter if Henry still holds it.

Cuse8 09-21-2011 01:54 PM

bryan v henry could be booked as a david v. goliath

MIZantine Empire 09-21-2011 02:04 PM

im excited about it because they have built it up to make it seem like he could easily have a dominating title reign. i just find it funny, i remember not to long ago a huge concensus of the forum would lol, or make fun of people who asked, or said mark henry could be champ. now it seems like everyone is all for it.

Ermaximus 09-21-2011 02:10 PM

Please God WWE, do NOT book a Henry/Khali feud for the WHC.

Logan 09-21-2011 02:22 PM

I will be IF they dont make Henry a transitional champion (probably used the wrong word but you get the idea), like they apparently did to christian and ADR... however I just dont see it happening. Hope I'm wrong.

I don't expect this to change anytime soon. What with "SmackDown! being booked around Orton".

C'mon, you know that man is Orton.

Xero 09-21-2011 02:54 PM

I said they had the tools, not that they'd use them. Honestly, yeah, it'll probably bump back to Orton before Mania. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if it happens before the year is out.

St. Jimmy 09-21-2011 03:18 PM

I'm proud that WWE isn't afraid to have someone with Down Syndrome hold their 2nd least important title.

St. Jimmy 09-21-2011 03:20 PM

In case someone was wondering:

Actually Important: WWE Title

1st Least Important: Divas, Tag Team, US Title, IC Title, That Tough Enough Belt
2nd Least Important: World Heavyweight Championship

Juan 09-21-2011 03:27 PM

Good to know

Black ppl cant catch Downs syndrome only white ppl can

Emperor Smeat 09-21-2011 05:00 PM

Not super excited but also somewhat happy that he is champion because they managed to build him up really well leading up to the title.

Similar to his run up to the ECW title reign, they actually booked him well enough instead of just the usual monster style push and then sudden stop like countless times in the past.

A bit shocked at how dominate he was made for the title match more than him actually having a reign.

Never thought they could make me care about him, but... Oh wait, I still don't.

Next Big Thing 09-21-2011 06:42 PM

I don't think they'll let him hold it until Mania. I still believe the push is more of a "thanks for so many years of good service" type gesture and less of them finally seeing something in Henry after 15 years.

+1.

I don't know why but I just dont enjoy any of his matches. His promo's have got much better, but when he gets in the ring its a snoozfest, for me anyway.

I still can't buy Mark Henry as champ. He seems too... Mark Henry-ish. We've seen him come "close" to getting it a few times, and used as a "monster" who the other guy beats (but just barley). He took out two guys who were a little higher on the food chain than him, but used for the same thing (Big Show/Kane), and all of the sudden he's no longer filler...

I do not want Henry to lose the Title for a long time..... I'm thinking Backlash would be appropriate.... give the man his Wrestlemania moment, then have him job in the rematch later in the month.....

They seriously need to give him a god damn manager.

Shisen Kopf 09-24-2011 01:25 AM

Mark Henry needs to hold the belt for 15 years. He can lose it at WM43 against John Cena for his 121st title reign.

Fox 09-24-2011 04:04 AM

They will kill his push by bringing back Mae Young, who reveals they have been having an on-again/off-again relationship ever since 1998, and that "Mark doesn't call anymore" since he won the World Title. She will distract him from his vicious focus as of late, and cause him to lose the World Title to Christian. On Smackdown he will go backstage and find his old Sexual Chocolate uniform lying on top of a mannequin hand, and later that night, will return to the ring as Sexual Chocolate and win back the World Heavyweight Title, Hulk Hogan circa 1999 style.

Londoner 09-24-2011 08:24 AM

100% disagree, Tommy Gunn. He was doing alright despite what chants, also his promo on Smackdown was good.

Blakeamus 09-24-2011 08:45 AM

100% agreed, TL. His promos were good. I actually hope he is giving a good dominant run with the WHC. Glad to see that after 15 years, he made this accomplishment. Just hope they don't go with the same formula as they did with Christian. AND, I don't see why not having William Regal become WHC for his services would hurt anything...

Mr. Nerfect 09-24-2011 08:00 PM

Hell in a Cell: Mark Henry pins Orton to retain the World Heavyweight Title (perhaps with some Cody Rhodes interference) and Sheamus defeats Christian to become the new #1 Contender.

Vengeance: Henry pins Sheamus, but then a familiar promo hits, and Kane is back to get a piece of Henry.

Survivor Series: Randy Orton, Sheamus, Kane & Big Show team to face Mark Henry, Christian, Cody Rhodes & Wade Barrett. The faces win, since it can build them up as challengers to Henry.

TLC: Orton takes the World Heavyweight Title from Henry.

Royal Rumble: Henry gets his rematch against Orton, but is pinned cleanly with the RKO. Henry then enters the Royal Rumble and looks like a beast, but is eventually tossed by Kane.

Elimination Chamber: Orton defends the World Heavyweight Title in an Elimination Chamber against Mark Henry, Christian, Kane, Sheamus and Cody Rhodes. Or something of the like. Orton successfully retains.

WrestleMania: Daniel Bryan defeats Randy Orton to become the new World Heavyweight Champion while Mark Henry faces Kane.
