CM Punk vs Undertaker at Wrestlemania
How would the IWC feel about this match?
The clear future of the business against the hallmark of tradition. I know this would never happen for business reasons, but would CM Punk, with his clear lead of the company, be able to beat The Undertaker at Wrestlemania? I understand that having Punk beat Taker here would be weird, but it would solidify him as "the guy" in the company. The match would go on before Rock and Cena, but could it actually happen? With all of the Jericho stuff going around it seems unlikely, but let's speculate... |
Zack Ryder vs Taker at WM. Ryder with the win of course. You know it!
|
Would it be a great match? Yes. But the timing of it is very poor, and it definitely should not happen this year. For argument's sake though, if the match did indeed happen, Punk would lose.
Punk should defend his Championship against either Ziggler or Jericho at Mania this year. As for Taker, I'm almost certain we're going to see him face Triple H again. |
If we somehow ended up having Undertaker face Kevin Nash at WrestleMania again, I'd mark out.

What would you do, Kevin Nash, if when you wrestle Triple H, this happened to you again?
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/faZEU_whN8M" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> What would you do, Big Daddy Cool?! WHAT WOULD YOU DO?! |
<font color=goldenrod>It'll be Triple H vs. Undertaker...which, while always a good match, just feels kinda blah. The only real positive about it is that you know Triple H will be in a high profile match at WM despite his mostly non-wrestling role, so throwing him and Taker again would kill two birds with one stone and free up a match slot for somebody else.</font>

What if THIS happens at the Royal Rumble again? <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/LADhZyhFukk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> WWE already has the blueprint as to how to carry out this feud. I really think there's a chance we might see it. I mean...Triple H has to wrestle CM Punk SOMETIME, no? All the comments Punk made about Steph and Triple H's manhood can't just be forgotten. What better time to do it than at 'Mania? |
It's not gonna happen, guy
|
We'll see.
If it DOES...ya'll are going to have to read me telling ya'll "I told you so!" |
You can't have Undertaker against HHH or Nash again. Mark will not allow it. The dude has a solid record of stellar matches at WM, and those two can't provide.
|
He will not face Nash with his streak.
|
He won't face a guy he can just blow over, ever again.

I love Nash, but there's no way he can put on a high caliber match with Taker like HBK and HHH did.

Can Phil Brooks put on a match with Mark Calloway?
20-0 at Wrestlemania Have him go against the guy who broke the 4th wall. Have a huge sendoff for Undertaker afterwards. It would make Punk. It would give Taker a send off if Punk did a "pipe-bomb" type thing. |
HBK lost to Taker and he looked like a jobber...

Cena vs Rock
CM Punk vs Taker who isn't buying? |

HBK won that match at WM for all Im concerned with
|
No.

I had the thought that Taker comes back and gets pissed at Cena and the Rock for taking his spotlight at WM and wants to make it a Triple Threat.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-77O5_H1kz_...t-gonzales.jpg Hi there. |
Rather see Punk vs Jericho if the whole teaser stuff about 2012 is actually meant to be about Jericho but Punk vs Undertaker would be great.
Considering the real lack of big names worthy to take on Taker in the biggest hyped match of the year, Punk might be the only big name left considering Cena is already booked and Orton probably gets involved in a title match. Triple H could face Taker but then that would be the third match they've had while others such as Ziggler or Barrett would be a bit risky to use as of now. Daniel Bryan most likely is involved in a title match so that takes him out of any potential young wrestler as a challange and doubt the WWE would use Christian or the Big Show. Cody Rhodes is the only potential big name I can think of to replace Punk for the match. |
I think the one thing we can all agree on, is that whoever Undertaker faces, it'll be a seasoned veteran, not a "new guy" like Ziggler or Barrett or Miz.
I actually think Ziggler will win the MITB at WM28. |
Ziggles will have a tough time winning MITB at WM since they dont have MITB at WM anymore..

Anyways, if Taker is going to retire at 20 wins undefeated, Punk would be a good way to go. A great match at Wrestlemania against the Undertaker would be better for Punk than a title match. They just need to push Punk as close to the brink of victory as possible. I really thought that in both Taker/Michaels matches, they should have had Shawn a half a second away from a count-out victory before purposefully breaking the count because he wanted to win the "right" way. It would have been especially powerful in the second match, since refusing to take a count-out win would have cost him his career. In Punk's case, it would give him a kind of "uncrowned champion" status; with the Undertaker retired, he could tout the fact that he came closer to winning than anyone else who ever faced the Undertaker at Wrestlemania, and that he could have won if he had wanted to, but that the "Best In the World" doesn't win that way. If the teaser vids are for Jericho, have him come back and win the Rumble, then win the title from Orton at Wrestlemania. Not only would this break the Royal Rumble winner/loser streak, but it would then set up for a triumphant Jericho/Punk feud to run through the summer and cultivate in an amazing SummerSlam match. |

I would be legit scared if I had to wrestle someone in that furry, pseudo-naked suit.
|
If Punk wins, he breaks the streak. If Taker wins, Punk has to do the biggest line of coke known to man.

Anyways I'll never get over his appearance at the Royal Rumble.
Monsoon: Who is this guy??? Heenan: As far as I'm concerned, he can be whoever he wants! |

Anyway, Punk vs. Taker makes sense, since you could have Punk spout a load of shit about how "You held me back, Mark!", but I'd rather not see it. Never been a 'Taker fan. Dude bores the shit out of me. |
Punk vs Taker at WM would have been brilliant back in Punks heel/SES days.
not so much now I dont think. |
Ugh somehow the prospect of Punk wanting to shave Taker's head...

And for a brief second, he even hinted 'Taker had Cancer. |
Sticking to my Miz saying he is undefeated at Mania and going for streak v streak match...

I'd rather see CM Punk with a long WWE Title reign, so I don't want to see him face Undertaker at Wrestlemania XXVIII. Chris Jericho on the other hand, I have no problem with.

Wouldn't be against it but I just don't see it happening as CM Punk is real hot right now and will likely be WWE Champion going into Wrestlemania and I highly doubt they'd have Taker win the strap in his last match.
|
If he keeps up the way he is, you know who I'd give the "vs. Undertaker" WM XXVIII match to?
SPOILER: show |
Yeah, given the two-year running pattern of streak rematches, would make sense.
|
I get the feeling Undertaker will face Alberto Del Rio at WM.
I don't know why. |
NOID ALERT.
Thinking about it, Jericho would do great for a match against Taker in an idea I've had for a while, that would work best if it was Taker's last match. You have Jericho return after the Rumble, without competing in it, and demand a title match at Wrestlemania. Have the authority figure of the day come out and tell Jericho that he may be the best in the world at what he does, but the title matches are already decided. That being said, he is going to offer Jericho something even better: a chance to face the undefeated Undertaker. Jericho accepts, only for the lights to go out, and for Jericho to take a choke slam from a materialized Taker. Weeks later Jericho comes out and bashes Taker for cheap-shotting him. He says it won't be like that at Wrestlemania, because he went straight to the top, and Vince McMahon himself has granted him the right to name the type of match they will compete in. Jericho says that the Undertaker has competed on the grandest stage of them all, nineteen times. He competed in a casket match. He competed in a Hell in a Cell match. He competed in a street fight. He competed in a career ending match. He competed in title matches. He EVEN competed in a "Vulture on a Pole" match (cut to Taker's entrance against Giant Gigante, and have Jericho call him that.) But this year, the Undertaker will be competing in a LUMBERJACK MATCH... and the men surrounding the ring will be none other than the men the Undertaker has vanquished in his past Wrestlemania appearances. The top of the stage fills up with those men that WWE can easily get to serve the purpose; Jummy Snuka, Jake Roberts, Mark Henry, Randy Orton, Kane, the Big Show, HHH, and Kevin Nash. I'd like to see them get Flair in there if he's available. Conspicuous by his absence will be HBK. (Not sure if King Kong Bundy would be available, but if they can get him, throw him in, and Albert too. For good measure I'd say throw in Harvey Whippleman (Giant Gonzalez's manager) and Ted DiBiase (I beleive he managed Bundy at the time Bundy fought Taker at Mania), and even Sid if he promises not to soil himself. Taker appears on the Tron. "Chris Jericho... if you think that you can overcome the darkness with this group of lost souls... you will find that those who fall into darkness will never return to the light... you... like them... wil rest... in peace." The lights come up and Jericho is standing alone. The week before Wrestlemania an agitated Jericho calls out the lumberjacks to the ring, and states that no matter what happened previously, they are on his side... and Jericho has one more card to play. He then introduces the SPECIAL GUEST REFEREE... SHAWN MICHAELS. Michaels comes to the ring to a roof-blowing pop. Before he says anything Jericho takes the mic. He tells HBK that they have had their differences, but he has never forgotten that it was Michaels that made him want to wrestle, Michaels that made him set out to become the best in the world, etc etc, and he is glad, and maybe even a little honored that Michaels chose to do the right thing and help the men who have fallen to the Undertaker finally see him defeated. HBK takes the microphone. He tells Jericho that he knows what Jericho is feeling. Everyone who has ever faced the Undertaker knows what he is feeling. They want to see the Undertaker fall. They want someone to rise up and prove that the Undertaker is only human. Nobody wants it more than he does... if it wasn't for the Undertaker, HBK would be stepping through the ropes at Wrestlemania to steal the show. BUT... if Chris Jericho thinks that Shawn Michaels is going to hand him the victory on a silver plate, he's DEAD WRONG. HBK drops the microphone and leaves to his theme music. Jericho appears flustered but gathers himself, and tells the crowd that's ok, because he still has his allies. He starts to ramble when someone (HHH or Kane would be best) takes the mic from him and tells him that HBK is right; they aren't there for him; they're not going to just give him what they worked so hard to get and never did. They proceed to walk out on him; finally the lights go out and a gravestone with Jericho's name appears on the Tron. The match will go as it will, and might I say, probably quite epic. I see the finish like this; Undertaker goes for a choke slam on Jericho, only to be hit from behind and choke Tombstoned by Kane. Michaels hits Sweet Chin Music on Kane, knocking him out of the ring. Jericho moves to hit a Lionsault and is caught in an RKO. Taker gets up and goes to Tombstone Jericho, but is interrupted by Mark Henry and a World's Strongest Slam; this provokes the Big Show to hit the WMD on Henry, spilling the two out of the ring. Jericho goes for a cover and is hit with a DDT from Jake Roberts (HOW FUCKING EPIC would that be.) A bewildered Michaels lets the chaos reign and begins a count; Jericho pulls himself up using the ropes as the Undertaker sits up. Jericho throws himself at Taker in an attempted Codebreaker that Taker turns into a tombstone to end the match. |

Maybe I'm just still a little let down from the slowed-down ending of the HHH/Taker match.

"Do" Cena? Not in the PG era, Sir!

I like that idea, Tedious. Quite a lot. It's not my favourite thing for Jericho to do at WrestleMania this year, but I'd bite it. Taker vs. Punk is also not my favourite thing, but if Punk sold the match using his "pipe-bomb" methods ("You're just a man, Mark. An aging, broken man") I could really get into things. Doesn't seem like it's right, though. I could see the WWE getting cold feet about the idea because it makes Punk look like a heel. In reality, he's just CM Punk giving anyone shit, because he can.

If they want a bout to be in question if he could really hold onto the streak or lose it, they should have him go up against everybody in the Kliq. It would be HBK, HHH, Nash, Hall, and Waltman vs Taker in a five on one handicap match (better to get it over with instead of having him fight each one individually like they have been and are going to be doing), something that would be pretty much an unwinnable situation if not for Kane coming to Taker's aide. Farfetched, I know, but after seeing WCW and ECW invade WWF, David Arquette become World Champion, a one-legged wrestler, Bret Hart back in WWE, and Barack Obama vs. Hillary Clinton on Raw... what do you think?

Nah

Granted creative always changes shit on a day to day basis and right now as I've read/heard there are not even any plans in place for Taker to return before Mania. From what i've heard he is set to return either at or after Wrestlemania. And don't get me started on the hole Jericho thing, from what I heard negotiations fell through with WWE weeks ago regarding a possible return and I haven't heard that they have went back to the drawing table to try and make him a more solid offer. |

I don't think they count the undercard when it comes to WrestleMania records.
|
It was promoted for many weeks leading into the show. I remember being quite upset when they didn't even air it on the broadcast. They also made reference to it, and The Colons were champions after the event. Pretty big slap in the face if they want me to believe he's undefeated at Wrestlemania, unless he adds a "singles competition" quantifier.
|
The match still didn't happen on the WrestleMania XXV, as pissed as we both were that the match got shafted.
|
So when Kane won the battle royal to get a shot at Chavo's ECW title, was that not counted as 'part of the show' either?
|
Whatever Mania that was. 24, I think.
|
Probably not.
