Steam Holiday Gift Pile!

I got Counter Strike source :D
What did you get?

#BROKEN Hasney 12-20-2011 06:43 AM

Orcs Must Die!!!!!!
Portal 2
Metro 2033
Bunch of Heroes

#BROKEN Hasney 12-20-2011 07:02 AM

Jesus, up to 320 games.

Kane Knight 12-20-2011 08:47 AM

Bunch of Heroes. only thing in the bunch I gave a shit about.

Jesus, up to 20 games!

#BROKEN Hasney 12-20-2011 08:56 AM

Might have to give Old Republic a rest with the gift pile going on as well. Earn selected achievements and get a free game/coupon or coal. With coal, you can either get an entry into the prize draw (grand prize is every game on Steam) or use 8 lumps to make a gift and all the gifts are tradeable.

Xero 12-20-2011 09:30 AM

Been on a big Indy kick of late. Just got Block that Matter so far, but I'm sure I'll be getting more. Also got the Humble Indy Bundle the other day.

Jura 12-20-2011 09:51 AM

I've been eyeing Bunch of Heroes yesterday. How is it so far?

#BROKEN Hasney 12-20-2011 09:58 AM

No idea, heard good things and impulse bought at that price so I'm not sure yet.

Jura 12-20-2011 09:59 AM

I've just watched a video of it. It's only $2.49 so what the hell.

Saints Row The Third is on sale until January 2nd.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-20-2011 10:03 AM

Almost everything is on sale on these sales. The trick is to check the daily deals and don't buy outside the daily deals until the last day of the same as they may be on one of them and have even more savings.

2.50 + solid reviews (well, solid feedback) are the reasons I bought it.

I'd be able to say more, but I'm hooked on Dungeon Defenders.

Extreme Angle 12-20-2011 11:24 AM

I just bought Bunch of Heroes...
What I meant by 'get', is what gifts.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-20-2011 01:24 PM

Purchased:

Half Life 2 Episode 1 & 2
Red Orchestra 2
Duke Nukem Forever (What? £3.74...)
Costume Quest

Doing gift cheevos over the weekend more than likely.

Extreme Angle 12-20-2011 01:24 PM

Geez... Getting past wave 20 was nuts... managed to get 800k or something and got our team the achievement.

Boomer 12-20-2011 03:35 PM

Dungeons of Dredmor is so worth a little more than a dollar. One of my favorite games of the year.

Wazzat?

Extreme Angle 12-20-2011 04:13 PM

2 fucking lumps of coal...

Boomer 12-20-2011 04:15 PM

DoD is a Rogue-like; it's a dungeon-crawl where (by default) death is permanent. The farther down you get in the dungeon, the more ridiculous things get, and the game basically leaves it up to you to figure out how to play the game effectively. Tons of items don't have descriptors on them, so you have to figure out what they do by trial-and-error.

I only got to the sixth floor on any of my characters, but it was always a blast to try new abilities out each time. I definitely got sad losing some of my characters, but it was more fun for me knowing that death could be behind any door.

Probably going to start playing it again, now that I need something over the holidays to play while I'm away from home.

I haven't played it in a while, but I can back up that it's well worth 86 pence/whatever it's going for in the US.

Boomer 12-20-2011 04:39 PM

Just bought the DLC for 87 cents; didn't even know it had any. I bought the game the day it came out for five bucks, and it was well worth that amount.

Meh. Pass.

Boomer 12-20-2011 05:02 PM

Was considering buying a gift copy for you, but I guess not.

Extreme Angle 12-20-2011 06:22 PM

Bought it

ClockShot 12-20-2011 06:53 PM

Thanks for the heads up guys.

Picked up Witcher 1 & 2 for $25 all together.

Boomer 12-20-2011 07:03 PM

The Witcher is fucking fantastic. Picked up W2 as well today, though from another website that had it for a few dollars cheaper, but still got it attached to Steam. I love Steamworks games.

NoJabbaNoBogRoll 12-20-2011 07:33 PM

Gifts so far:

Random useless coupon
Lump of coal
Portal 2

Purchases so far:

None

FearedSanctity 12-20-2011 07:39 PM

Gave me HL2:Ep2 and coal. Don't have any of the games to do the objectives

VSG 12-20-2011 08:42 PM

Bought Portal 1,2 for $8 and Max Payne 1,2 for $3.5.

VSG 12-20-2011 09:00 PM

Any of the indy packs any good? Considering getting Super Meat Boy also.

Emperor Smeat 12-20-2011 10:53 PM

I think if you buy the Humble Indie Bundle set you get all the soundtracks for those games for free as a bonus. It also has a grandfather clause that if any game in the set was purchased before, you still get that game's soundtrack for free.

DS 12-20-2011 11:07 PM

Yeah definitely get the Humble Bundle (#4 includes Super Meat Boy). You pay what you want and can determine where the money goes.

There's also Indie Royale which includes some games that will have upcoming achievements for the Gift Pile. Again, you pay what you want.

All the games can be activated through Steam (if that needed to be said).

VSG 12-20-2011 11:15 PM

Thanks!

Super Meat Boy is fucking awesome. A shame my save file's lost.

Indie Bundle 4 (Mentioned in a post below yours) looks good, but I already have all the games in it I want.

If it isn't any good...:foc:

Extreme Angle 12-21-2011 05:35 AM

Coal from DiggleNog

FearedSanctity 12-21-2011 05:36 AM

Same

Extreme Angle 12-21-2011 05:39 AM

Dunno whether it's worth keeping the 7 coal or going for a gift...

Xero 12-21-2011 11:14 AM

FYI: if you pay above the average for the humble indie bundle 4 (think it's $5 or so), it now includes bundle 3 with a few more games. So glad i got it.

ThatsMyEagerFace 12-21-2011 03:15 PM

Bah gawd... I can't participate because (apparently) TF2 doesn't count as a game anymore :p

Iop 12-21-2011 04:10 PM

It's a pile alright, a pile of s***!

Xero 12-21-2011 04:23 PM

Hate the Steam Holiday sale. Never know what to play. :( #firstworldproblems

RoXer 12-21-2011 04:54 PM

Might buy The Heist

DS 12-21-2011 08:49 PM

Here's a list of all the gifts that can be randomly picked: http://forums.somethingawful.com/sho...#post398758033

And if you're interested, here are all the achievements (including the upcoming ones) that give you gifts. http://steamtreasurehunt.wikia.com/w...reat_Gift_Pile

You should get a gift for each one, even if you have them completed. So feel free to get a jump on some of them.

Jura 12-21-2011 09:29 PM

Arkham City is only $25.

VSG 12-21-2011 09:46 PM

Ya saw that. I am considering Deus Ex as well.

Jura 12-22-2011 09:36 AM

I think I'll wait until January.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-22-2011 09:41 AM

Yeah, wait on Deus Ex VSG, it might be in the daily sales too.

Grabbed Grotesque Tactics 1&2, Defense Grid and Neverwinter Nights 2 Platinum on this days sales. Wallet beginning to feel abused and we have over a week of this left.

Boomer 12-22-2011 02:02 PM

I keep hoping Divinity II will get cheaper in one of these sales, but I have too many games in my backlog like it, so it will have to wait.

Nothing today from Steam, but I did get Deus Ex and the DLC from Gamersgate for 13, and its Steamworks just like Witcher 2. Picked up another useless coupon getting achievements - 50% off a game that is currently 75% off.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-22-2011 02:20 PM

Bought Blur today. Leaving it at that.

Xero 12-22-2011 02:57 PM

Holy shit is Dungeons of Dredmor addicting.

Just got Limbo too. So far I got 50% off a Valve game and Half Life 2 (which I don't need), as well as 2 pieces of coal.

VSG 12-22-2011 03:03 PM

I'll take it.

Xero 12-22-2011 03:06 PM

What's your Steam ID?

Glad you like DoD.

Changed my mind on Divinity II. :-\ Probably going to pick up XCOM complete and (just maybe) NBA 2K12 before the sale ends. Other stuff is up in the air.

Boomer 12-22-2011 03:33 PM

Monster Zoos still give me nightmares btw.

It's also a good time to get any DLCs at a cheaper price for games you already own.

Extreme Angle 12-24-2011 02:07 PM

Got 50% off the oddbox when I redeemed my coal :/

Boomer 12-24-2011 03:38 PM

Yeah, 9 coal for me, along with a 50% off Valve and 40% of Serious Same: TSE. Turned in 7 to get 60% off Magicka.

I honestly just want a game, even if I own it already. These coupons don't make much sense when you can just get them cheaper now.

That's why the coupons don't work until Jan 2nd. I've got all coal and traded it in for 50% off of L4D2. Also won 50% off Singularity.

Bought Renegade ops, Wings of Prey and Hard Reset today.

Boomer 12-24-2011 04:44 PM

That's what I'm saying. Why should I want to even use or gift these coupons when anyone can get almost any of these games for cheaper right now? I mean maybe if you were broke enough to not be able to afford it now, but it isn't like the coupons might be something you would use anyway. I'm not even sure I could find anyone to trade these with for a decent return.

Team Fortress 2 gear. It is the only thing I can imagine trading for the coupons.

Boomer 12-24-2011 05:06 PM

Just picked up Dead Island for 13 and NBA2K12 for 10 on Amazon. Dead Island is Steamworks. Third game I've done that with this week.

Extreme Angle 12-24-2011 07:41 PM

Used my gf's account to get all the stuff. She got Half life 2 :D

FearedSanctity 12-24-2011 08:57 PM

I've got:

4 piece of coal
Half-Life 2: Episode 2
50% off Limbo
50% off Recettear

And I don't want any of it

#BROKEN Hasney 12-25-2011 06:53 AM

50% OFF FARMING SIMULATOR 2011 YOU GUYS. WHAT A FUCKING GIFT!!!

VSG 12-25-2011 11:04 AM

Can you trade these coupons and coal items?

No it isn't. I would rather have a prize draw entry than 50% off farming simulator.

And yeah Jura, you can.

VSG 12-25-2011 11:52 AM

Maybe it's an indicator of your true calling in life

Extreme Angle 12-25-2011 05:04 PM

FearedSanctity 12-25-2011 05:08 PM

Dungeons of Dredmor is fantastic, might be the best $3.74 purchase I have made.

Boomer 12-25-2011 10:26 PM

They added five floors with the expansion, and I'm super surprised that I just finished the 8th floor an hour ago. Taking a break for tonight, but this is by the farthest I've taken one character. I've already maxed four skill trees. Only had one really close death experience so far too, right near the beginning.

Xero 12-25-2011 11:06 PM

Have a played of 12 hours so far. It's really amazing, and I've only managed to make it to the second floor. It's frustrating as hell, especially when you die from something stupid after owning a monster zoo, but it's so fun.

Even for full price (Like $7 with the expansion) it's a ridiculous value. A lot of full price games don't even have that kind of staying power with me (especially when the campaign is only 8 hours).

VSG 12-25-2011 11:43 PM

Batman: Arkham Asylum is 75% off. Too bad my processor might not cut it well when everything else seems more than enough :'(

VSG 12-25-2011 11:43 PM

Also if anyone has an extra HL2: Ep 1, lemme know.

Jura 12-26-2011 12:11 AM

I've bought games that I haven't played still. It's all good.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-26-2011 04:46 AM

We can bitch about the coupons a lot, but to be honest, those achievements have made me pick up some games that I wouldn't have gotten around to for a while and some of them are great.

Going to play the fuck out of:

Renegade Ops
EYE (That game is fucked up, but can't wait to get some 32 player co-op going)
Hard Reset
Demolition Inc
Dungeons of Dreadmore
PAYDAY The Heist
Jamestown

#BROKEN Hasney 12-26-2011 05:40 AM

Just to put the coupons into perspective, it's better than the iTunes giveaway.

My iPhone just tried to push a free Coldplay gig video onto me *shudder*

The Destroyer 12-26-2011 06:40 AM

Good shout on Demolition Inc. Quite fun.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-26-2011 01:07 PM

Highly recommend Sonic Generations, Rock of Ages and Bastion at those prices.

VSG 12-26-2011 01:18 PM

Gonna get Farcry 1 and 2, contemplating Fallout 3 and Sonic Generations

RoXer 12-26-2011 02:50 PM

Might get Bastion maybe.

Got enough games to play though

Boomer 12-26-2011 04:27 PM

Bastion is a top five game for me this year, I think. Listened to that soundtrack more than just about anything.

Boomer 12-26-2011 04:28 PM

Got another coupon for a game I own too (Revenge of the Titans). Took me a while to remember I owned it already, from one of the HIBs.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-26-2011 04:32 PM

Also, fuck Beat Hazard. Whoever designed that game knows nothing about visual subtlety.

Boomer 12-26-2011 04:57 PM

I think I read that you can turn it down if you buy Ultra, but I kinda love how hard it is to focus on everything onscreen. Shit is popping off almost 100% of the time in that game. Was worried it would play too much like Geometry Wars too, and its dissimilar enough for me to play it when I get back home. I don't listen to music much these days anyway.

VSG 12-26-2011 05:28 PM

That Game of Thrones game looks good but has pretty bad reviews. Dunno, confused about it.

VSG 12-26-2011 05:34 PM

So for Bastion: Soundtrack Edition, do you just get to download the soundtrack separately or is it the only one with in-game soundtrack?
