Are there any ex-ECW/WCW stars from back in the day who still have 'something to offer'
Was watching the dvd of a wrestling show in Germany in 2009 which had Steve Corino on it, and the audience were treating him like a god. Like seriously, you'd think he'd be on the same level as Hogan, Austin, Flair and Michaels etc. But realistically Steve Corino was what? An upper-midcard ECW guy for a couple of years... at best. (?)
Anyways, a bit of topic there... the whole thing just made me wonder if there are still any ex-ECW/WCW guys that you guys think can still bring something to the table. Or that can still be 'relevant' today. Shockingly, the first name that comes to mind for me is Shannon Moore. A quick Wikipedia search tells me he is only 32 years old! Feels like he's been around forever! He still has a few good years left in him, nothing's really stopping him from ever achieving more success in TNA or an eventual WWE return. So anyways, discuss. |
hogan still has the name value
sting might bring in some older fans for the nostalgia |
Corino was ECW World Champion.
Still think Rhino was wasted in WWE, the gore was over and he was pretty solid in the ring. Seemed like he was a due a push before his injury and then he got released.

I still believe that the Dudley Boyz have something more to offer than just a name, but if you're looking for someone closer to the unemployment line, I'm gonna say no dice. The wrestling industry needs to focus on the stars of next year.
Let's face it- we don't want to watch John Cena with a receding hair line saying "The Champ Is Here" as a 60 year old man grabs the bling belt. We know that The Undertaker is bound for retirement anytime soon. Triple H is also on his way out. Orton is still solid (albeit I knew how he landed the RKO would bite him on the ass, or back), as is Del Rio (Also out for the time being). TNA cannot expect a solid main event scene in 5 years from Sting, Kurt Angle, Jeff Hardy, Hulk Hogan, and Ric Flair. They should look more towards (INSERT 3-4 RANDOM TNA NAMES HERE ALONG WITH BEER MONEY) to take over the main event. It'll also save them cash when they can phase out Hogan and Flair's paychecks. |
Stacy Keibler and lots of her
Im gonna assume Jericho/Rey Mysterio/RVD/Christopher Daniels/Kid Kash (LOL)/Booker T/Big Show/etc don't count?

:D |
TNA's main events in 5 years will probably be held in a half empty high school gym so Shannon Moore being a main eventer would work.
William Goldberg
I think Steven Richards and Tajiri could still offer something.
Tajiri and Yoshi Tatsu would be an awesome tag team.
could WWE get away with calling them The Happy Jappys?
If brought in for nostalgia yes, for in-ring no. WCW/ECW closed down 11 years ago. Thats a pretty long time when it comes to the wear and tear of someones body. The people that we wanted to see in WWE we already, for the most part. Whether they were handled right or wrong is a different story.
Lots of different people could be thrown in to todays storylines, Booker T is a perfect example, but they really would only have a short stint worth of action. Although I hear that guy Seven from WCW might be making a comeback soon. |

star is a strong word but he was under contract to WCW when he still had hair
What the FUCK is that new avatar of yours?
AJ Styles was part of the critically acclaimed Air Raid tag team in the dying days of WCW.
But anyways, to answer the question.... Disco Inferno and Alex Wright. |
Quote:
you wouldn't, WCW had roughly 4.3 million wrestlers under contract between like 1995 and 2001. I don't even remember him having a match, just being in the background of some segments

Chris Chetti and Nova...underrated. Same with Doring and Roadkill.

:y: He already was jobber ass Simon Dean in WWE though. :( Joel Gertner should def be on commentary though  |

Nova/Simon Dean is pretty happy where he is not wrestling except for fun. Does audio on PWInsider once in a while. He actually worked in the WWE offices for a while.

Stacy Keibler will always have something to offer.....

Steve Corino is the fucking man. Watch your god damn mouth.

Does Booker T count?
Would have to pick Steven Richards. Rob Van Dam for the nostalgia, but Richards will show you, and you'll see.
RVD is phoning it in for TNA. If WWE offered him something I'm sure he'd pick his fitness regimen back up and take it to a new level. Not on a touring basis, but for a 'last hurrah' level.
Alex Wright.
Alex Fucking Wright. |
Steve Corino isn't really doing much in ROH currently.
Steve Corino seems like a guy that is constantly evolving his character, so I think he's got about as much chance as anyone at being relevant.
I'm not going to lie -- I'd mark out for a Rhyno comeback. Even if Christian brought him back to be his "Beast on a Leash" that Gores people he doesn't like. Bully Ray has also matured into an all-round amazing performer in TNA, as well. |
Mark Jindrak was always a solid wrestler and never really got a legitimate shot. I'd like to see him back in the WWE. The same goes for Sean O'Haire.
Marty Jannety needs a big push.
I agree with Marty Jannetty, I agree with Joel Gertner....how about Don Callis/Cyrus/The Jackyl? great on the mic.
How about El Dandy?
I'm afraid he's already been doubted by the WWE
Good one, I thought Bret Hart would of given them a good word.
Marty Jannetty
Brad Armstrong Bobby Eaton Stevie Richards |
Hey DLVH, I'd like to know what those guys, especially 57 year old Bobby Eaton, would bring to the table in modern day wrestling?
Respect, honor, integrity and the fighting spirit.
Bobby Eaton hasn't even entered his prime yet. He's still got a lot to offer.

Sean O'Haire was always one of my favorites. I thought he had championship potential. |
I was a HUUUUUGE O'Haire mark back in the day. I definitely remember thinking/hoping/knowing he'd be a huge star one day. :(

now what the shit does that have to do with anything in this thread?
That's what Cody Rhodes needs to take that step to the next level, a feud against Bobby Eaton.
Then he can feud with the whole Armstrong gang before jobbing the title to Bullet Bob

I remember being disappointed when they kinda ditched him with the rest of the Alliance guys, and then he came back with Rowdy, thinking they had some major plans for him.... then he disappeared again. |
Id like to see Raven as a manager, not gonna happen after the lawsuit but he'd be a great mouth piece for someone.
Always felt Lodi's sign ideas could really freshen up the stale lower midcard scene.
I'd be on pins and needles waiting for Eaton to snap and become a loner submission machine!

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/GbCAtR3ymbk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Who would of thought that of all the talented wrestlers in this match what Shannon Moore would be the one wrestling for a major company. I always thought Johnny the Bull (thats killer spelled backwards) deserves andother shot in the WWE or TNA. |

I feel now would be a good time to communicate some things to you that I feel will make your TPWW experience much greater while also helping the rest of us enjoy your company. First, regarding the list above that started this whole reply:
Now, please quit trying to make up for your small penis and mancrush on Van Halen by showing everybody how many obscure wrestling references you can pull out of your shit-encrusted ass. Also, I am shocked that you can pull said references out of said shit-encrusted ass considering how much room your head takes up considering it is firmly lodged up your aforementioned shit-encrusted ass. Have a great day, God bless you, God bless America, and God Bless Triple H! Sincerely, James Emmitt Steele III, Esq. |
GOOD LORD!

Also, I bet we see La Parka vs John Cena in MSG at WrestleMania XXX.
La Parka can outpop Cena, one for me and one for my homies.

Speaking of La Parka (technically L.A. Park for you lucha gurus), I think AAA should sue WWE for blatantly ripping off their epic TripleMania XVIII storyling of L.A. Park (The Original La Parka) vs La Parka (Jr. - Fake La Parka, made La Parka by AAA owner when Original Parka was in WCW) with this whole Sin Cara nonsense last year. Seriously...is nothing sacred to Vince McMahon?
little known fact: The original La Parka is Bobby Eaton
Big fan of Juvi Guerrera's meth-influenced promos, but cant see them being allowed in WWE.
ECW had mad slutty divas though, good shit. |
Dont think any have aged all that well though, i miss Beulah
Kimona Wanalaya, baby.

In terms of in ring? Probably not. Creatively maybe. Dreamer/Raven/Douglas as bookers maybe,
RVD, BTW.
Same old shit.

lolSTD
