Your favorite game of all time.
Don't be pussies and give me ties or any of that bullshit. One game and why.
Alright, one and only one honorable mention. |
Max Payne (PC)
Because it is my favourite game of all time. Been looking for games and films with the dark, rainy, big city, underlying tragedy neo-noir "atmosphere" ever since. Huge mark for that stuff. |
I have never played it, I saw my cousin play it and I loved the bullet-time. Is it available for 360 or PS2?
Also, my favorite game of all time is Metal Gear Solid 3, The story is amazing, the ending is perfect and how it should have been finished. It has its little jokes without going Naked Raiden, has the stealth factor that made the original such a hit but in the wilderness where it takes camouflage into account. Some of the coolest bosses in any game I have ever encountered. The main character is an established badass and there are so many styles you can play to finish. Hell, I used to spend the first hour or so hording alligator meat and shooting fruit from trees. A close and I mean close second, would be GTA: San Andreas. It was my first 3D GTA game on a system I owned (I had previously played Vice City to Racing Hillary at a friends place) San Andreas overwhelmed me, I completed it 9 times now, once with a 100% completion (which includes all the driving, flying, etc schools) The story, gameplay and everything remains the standard for a GTA game and I am enormously excited for GTA V. |

Assassins Creed: Brotherhood probably, love the story and I am totally gay for all of those games.
|
Which is that in the series the 2nd one?
|
FA, you can download Max Payne 1 and 2 as xbox originals.
My favorite game ever is Mass Effect. |
Quote:
It goes Assassins Creed, Assassins Creed II, Brotherhood, Revelations. |

800 points, I believe. But I bought them on sale for 400 each.
|
Super Metroid because it is fucking perfect.
|
The PS2 version was alright, but the worst of the three.
PC > XBox > PS2 |

Definitely get the PC version FA. It's old enough that a computer from 5 years ago can play it and it would probably be 2 bucks in a bargain bin. |
Alladdin on the mega drive, still holds up nearly 20 years later and an awesome soundtrack too.

Hard to believe these used to be "state of the art" system specs. |
Is Max Payne really THAT old?
|
I'll get back to this thread when I've finished playing The Witcher 2, and let you know if it beats Mass Effect 2.
|
MGS3 probably
|
Left 4 Dead
Honorable Mention: Mass Effect 2 (haven't played 1) |

|
Final Fantasy 8. Dunno loved it, preferred it to 7. Haven't played it since whenever it was that it came out though so whatever.
|
Chrono Trigger
|
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is definetley my favroite of all time. Everything about that game from the graphics to the storyline is perfect. Best in the Zelda franchise and my favorite game ever. I don't know how many times I wanted to speak for Link as an adult when going back to Kokiri Forest.
Just goes to show that a game doesn't have to have an "M" rating to be flat-out incredible. |

Probly Goldeneye on N64.
Loved N64. Turok and Mario 64 were also the best, too. |
Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn (PC)
Honorable mention: Throne of Bhaal expansion Epic... so epic. It's the RPG that got everything right, IMO. Light years ahead of its time; only now are games like Skyrim coming out that challenge the Baldur's Gate games' immersion and epic scale. |
I got Max Payne, gave it a quick shot (see what i did there?) Seems good, will finish me thinks.

Honorable Mention: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...d_Coverart.png (I'd put All-Stars with Mario World but feel like that would be cheating) |
I'd have to go with Bioshock it has the combination of a great original storyline and has plently of action with some cool options you can make along the way.
|
Resident Evil 4
Just fell in love with the game, as I was always a big Resident Evil fan, but was beginning to struggle to get thru some of them (such as Resident Evil: Zero and Code Veronica) But I couldn't put the game down for the first 2 weeks I got it, and played it many times. Fun Fact: I've beaten Resident Evil 4 on 4 different consoles (Gamecube, Wii, PS2 & Xbox 360) |
I read that as 5, I was ready to locate you and kick you in the bag.

Arguable Favorite:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...USA.jpg/250px- Honourable Mention: http://xboxmedia.ign.com/xbox/image/...oxart_160w.jpg edit: didn't explain why. Super Castlevania IV - I'm sure that nostalgia has a lot to do with it, but I really enjoy this game. I get bored of modern 3D games, but I can always revisit good old 2D platformers. Tie Fighter Collector's CD-Rom - my favorite computer game of all time. Such a fun game, sweet midi tunes, cool cut-scenes, great mission structure, fun simulation aspect with managing power systems, damage, etc. I still have my original copies of both these games. Haven't played Tie-Fighter since the late 90's though :p. Need to hook up my old 1997 Pentium MMX 133mhz computer one of these days, lol. |

Shenmue or deus ex, I'm going to have to think about it
|
The first Legend of Zelda game.
Sentimental reasons for it being one of the 1st two games I ever owned (Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt being the other) and the 1st known game I ever beat on my own. Easily played the First Quest hundreds of times and never felt bored and last year managed to actually to get around playing the Second Quest till it was done. Ended up becoming part of a personal gaming tradition to play and beat the game at least once a year. I own 2 copies of the game itself (Wii VC and NES) along with a ROM copy but have saves stored on another 2-3 copies from games owned by a couple of cousins. |

Despite the thread title my favorites
Ocarina of time:I was in middle school when it came out it had a commercial that ended with a scroll asking "Have ye the balls?"("edited it later to have ye what it takes" ) That game is fucking awesome thats all I can say Mass effect 2:This is the first game where I find myself caring for characters and rooting for and making hard choices ect. Eternal Darkness- All of you reading this, find it and play it and pray for a sequel HONORABLE MENTION is it really too early to say Arkham City? Its a fucking Batman game created to perfection; When the announcement came that a sequel to Arkham Asylum was coming I dropped to my knees and wept ,Then I was told it was a sandbox next thing I Iremember hearing a flatline and some guy standing over me with heart defibrillator paddles. |
Honestly want to play everything mentioned in this thread.
|
I really like the shin megami tendrils games. But I'd be hard presses to pick one. Also love growlanser.fuck, give me an atlis RPG and ill love it.

Dragon Age: Origins
|

|
seriously tho, programming there AI is just the bess knees, i have lit. played over 10 times and never had a playthrough the same. just a brilliant game.
|
Several people I know love the game. I have Skyrim, a bit of DMC4, Mass Effect to finish first and then DA:O
|
Was da:o 2 as varied I only played till he went into the cavern or whatever the deep.
Played the first dragon age. Never finished. What exactly changes on subsequent playthroughs? |
Everything, literally everything. Subsequent playthroughs are differing due to style and choices.
|
I ended up having sex with both girls the first playthrough without any real repricussions. Just like real life.

Yeah, I don't think you understand how many games I have played.
I'm pretty sure my favourite game of all time is Civilization IV. As a franchise as well. But, I do have to say, most of the games in the Gran Turismo series were fucking magic. So it's hard to pick. |
Civilization is great. Y'all should all check out fortune street.
|
I played the ever loving fuck out of Gt: 2
|
www.kingdomofloathing.com
Not a typical pick but it's the only game that I can say I have played every day for like 3 years now. It's basically like those old text based games on the Commodore 64 or Vic-20 but with stick figures. Don't let that fool you though. The writing is tremendous and the game mechanics are actually really deep. Awesome game. |

Perfect Dark for N64
|
When I can Rep again I will Rep you for the k.o.l. Reference.
|
Favourite is probably Riven, runner ups would be The Neverhood, the Bioshocks or the Elder Scrolls games. I really like games with a lot of detail and mythology behind it because I tend to nerd out and do a lot of reading and research into a ton of inane background shit that is largely irrelevant to the games themselves.
|
Played Myst and riven at like 12. Was incredibly lost and never got far. Want to get a Myst riven dual pack or triple pack with the last game.
Love adventure games |
Kingdom Hearts. I was a Disney mark growing up, so it was a perfect combination of games and disney.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles for sure. Everytime I'm off sick I still finish that game on a new format. Actually have it on XBLA/Mega Drive/Steam/CD-ROM/iPhone/DS/PSP/XBOX/Gamecube/PS3 currently.
|
|
There is a fourth Myst game? ?

Well I figured you were taking a crack at me.or really thought I posted that... which knowing you I found it hard to believe you'd actually make a mistake. Are you ocd? Not making fun, it would just explain a bit.

So you didn't have a clue. Gotcha.

Any Pokemon game would be pretty high on my list, too. Huge pokemon nerd. Probably not surprising.
|
as much of an rpg nerd as i am i never played pokemon..
|
Despite the kids game feel, the battle system is simple enough for young kids but deep enough to appreciate for more serious gamers as well.
|
yeah i've watched it on youtube to check it out and looks like somethign i could get into but its all on handheld it seems.
