Also, for the people who think WWE is trying to bury Daniel Bryan:

Quote:

According to PWInsider.com, the reasoning behind this squash was that WWE wanted to do something "shocking" at the show to catch people off guard. They also want to get the Brogue Kick over as a dangerous move. Although his first WrestleMania appearance is probably not want he'll want to remember, there is no heat on Daniel Bryan and the squash was not a punishment in any way. WWE officials are said to be thrilled with how over this "Yes!" catch phrase is .

FourFifty 04-03-2012 03:17 PM

I'm shocked that Bryan hasn't become a major heel. Seriously, I thought we would have arenas filled with people chanting "Eat Some Bacon! *clap-clap clap-clap-clap* Eat Some Bacon! *clap-clap clap-clap-clap* Eat Some Bacon! *clap-clap clap-clap-clap*" I was even waiting for the night were everyone would throw slim jims at him.

But hey, mad respect for Bryan. He's a legit underdog in a company run by a guy with a big man fetish.

That has not been the case for a very, very, very long time. Even the "WWE universe" crowd doesn't act appropriately to face/heel designations.

The only people who will cheer and boo as they are told are marks. It's getting a lot harder to control the crowd. We're at an awkward state in the WWE Universe. The fans were booing Cena for quite sometime, Ziggler is getting cheered, somehow some jackass from Long Island got over for being a Jersey Shore reject who had so much free time from not being used on TV that he created a social media revolution, and fans are chanting "YES!" for an annoying vegan heel.

It's getting harder to fool the people, Mr. Newstead. What was once an iron curtain we couldn't look behind is now a glass house.

This makes perfect sense, actually.

Bryan was doing such an awesome job as a dickweed heel, and I think the smart move would have been to have him retain after screwing Sheamus over pretty badly. Sheamus continues to get built up and then takes the title when it's more of an emotional pay-off for that character. Bryan was just too good as World Champion.

Fortunately for Bryan, though -- losing the World Title has turned him into about as big a sensation as anything in the WWE right now. And we're at a point where The Rock and Brock Lesnar appearances are overlapping. It sucks that heel Bryan got his heat taken away by such a silly thing, but it's gotten him white-hot reactions as a potentially marketable underdog babyface for the company (like he was last year, until they losing streak'd him). Truth be told, Bryan is in the same spot as he was last year when he won Money in the Bank, but only this time with a quirky personality. That's if the WWE allows it, of course, and doesn't Christian 2005 the guy (which I don't think they will, as they seem to like Bryan).

The WWE should really jump on this "YES!" thing and put out merchandise.

Mr. Nerfect 04-04-2012 07:53 AM

Also, since they seem to be held bi-annually now, I think Daniel Bryan is the single best candidate for a 2012 King of the Ring crown. I think you can imagine how his victory speech would go.

Rammsteinmad 04-04-2012 08:10 PM

So, just out of curiousity, how long would the 'yes' thing have to be over for the doubters to acknowledge that it's over? If by the next Raw (which I'm guessing isn't in Miami) the 'yes's' continue, is it safe to say it's over?

Rammsteinmad 04-04-2012 08:10 PM

For the record, I loved the 'yes' thing on Raw. Really helps you appreciate how much better a show can be with the right audience.

Probably needs to last a couple of weeks and maybe the next ppv similar to how the "What" chants stayed active even in smaller market towns which proved how popular the chant became with the overall fanbase.

Doesn't even need Bryan to be on the show to stay active like how the "We Want Ryder" chants lasted for weeks during the time Ryder was barely on tv.

Dukelorange 04-04-2012 10:21 PM

DB v. Cena... people will cheer the heel and boo the face... they should run the match and STILL have DB play the heel role...

Actually, that's pretty inaccurate. I know you're just trolling, but SmackDown!'s ratings actually rose earlier this year when Daniel Bryan fully unleashed his heel persona. Editions of SmackDown! without Randy Orton even drew higher ratings than ones with Orton on them.

SmackDown! did lull for a bit recently, but the entire format of the show changes heading into WrestleMania -- things become a bit more of a hype machine. There were times where SmackDown! was beating the 2011 average -- a year when Christian's reign, Randy Orton's reign and Mark Henry's reign all saw slight drops in television ratings.

And I'm not bashing those men -- I've enjoyed them all in the past year. Your bashing of Daniel Bryan and his relationship to ratings is completely irrelevant, though. Oh, and did I mention that although CM Punk's segments often drop-off with women and children ratings-wise, his matches with Daniel Bryan would often see spikes in the ratings about equal to that Cena and Rock's segments would get (Note: Not equal viewers; equal spikes).

Daniel Bryan proved to guys much smarter than you, Gertner, that he could handle being the World Heavyweight Champion and do a successful enough job at it. Not only critically, but commercially as well. That's why they didn't pull the plug on his World Heavyweight Title reign heading into WrestleMania.

Oh, and let's not start the "over" discussion:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/vinR0n0xqsk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Actually, they did. Not by much, granted, but to say that ratings have been declining consistently is terribly false. To say that Bryan has been a terrible failure is also terribly false. Your trolling was effective when Bryan was on the rise and success had not been guaranteed, but Bryan's reign was quite a good period for the SmackDown! brand (beating out 2011's average quite a lot).

Also, Punk vs. Bryan actually earned RAW hundreds of thousands of viewers.

http://www.prowrestling.net/artman/p...10023714.shtml

I know the February edition of RAW in which you are talking about. The Rock's promo at the end of 27 Febuary earned a lot of viewers in the week you are talking about, but that was an overrun that actually lost more viewers than the Punk vs. Bryan match did when Cena came out. Is Cena also a terrible failure?

The shows in general have had decreasing ratings in general with rare spikes, and this is with Daniel Bryan as World Champion. So to say that he is responsible when Randy Orton and John Cena can't even guarantee viewers is absolutely ridiculous. The Rock didn't even pop the Survivor Series buyrate by much.
