Greatest game to never have a sequal?

I'm sure you guys might mention something better than this but I really wish they made a "Warriors 2" to introduce us to some new gangs and further the story.

whiteyford 04-15-2012 03:09 PM

Was going to post Warriors when i saw the thread title.

dronepool 04-15-2012 03:12 PM

I'd buy Warriors HD on PS3. It was one of the most fun games on PS2 with cheat codes or without.

They need to at least do that.

Pintint 04-15-2012 05:15 PM

Does Baldurs Gate II count? Its the second in the series, but it never goy a sequel :shifty:

Mirror's Edge

El Fangel 04-15-2012 06:13 PM

Anyone saying anything besides Legend of Dragoon needs their head examined.

G 04-15-2012 06:25 PM

You'll first have to tell me what Legend of Dragoon is.

El Fangel 04-15-2012 06:35 PM

One of the most underrated RPG's the PS1 had. Great battlesystem, variety of characters and story. Don't get why more people never played it.

Seriously, get it and play it somehow, you won't regret it.

ozzman6669 04-15-2012 06:39 PM

Bully 2 would be great, or at least a ps3 version of the first one

#BROKEN Hasney 04-15-2012 06:56 PM

The three I would mention (Psychonaughts, Deadly Premoniton and Mirror's Edge) all allegedly have things in the pipeline. Here's to hoping.

#BROKEN Hasney 04-15-2012 06:58 PM

Hated Legend of Dragoon. It's the most enforced grindy JRPG of all time. You can't take two steps before being bored to tears by yet another random battle.

G 04-15-2012 07:11 PM

Bully 2 would be fabulous

Just thinking about the ridiculous frequency of Legend of Dragoons battles made me think about Skies of Arcadia, since that was pretty frequent, but not nearly the farcical amount LoD gives you.

Damn, no Skies of Arcadia sequel :'(

Not sure off the top of my head, but I believe there was an ability or something that reduced to the amount drastically.

I only remember absolutely loving the battle-system.

Mooияakeя™ 04-15-2012 08:21 PM

One hell of a question... Will have to come back to this.

Lavel 04-15-2012 10:42 PM

Definitely Legend of Dragoon.

Emperor Smeat 04-15-2012 10:51 PM

Beyond Good & Evil

Was Chrono Cross an actual sequel to Chrono Trigger or just used the Chrono name like how some Final Fantasy games were not sequels or related to other FF games?

I'd nominate Conkers Bad Fur Day but no way Rare could ever make a great sequel with the current state they are in. Eternal Darkness and Psychonauts are another but both have teased a sequel being possible.

El Fangel 04-15-2012 11:05 PM

Red Dead Redemption is one of the best games of all time, and will never get a "TRUE" sequel. But that is ok, as the story doesnt allow one. But I am sure they will make a new installment, sort of a spiritual successor.

I fucking loved Castlevania Lord of Shadows, and really want there to be a sequel. GREAT game. Superb voice acting. Patrick Stewarts voice made my dick trickle.

Legend of the Dragoon was good.

Final Fantasy Tactics and Ogre Battle 64 were two more of my all time favorites that never really got a sequel.

Basically this, but if it were Jack with a less annoying voice, I wouldn't have a problem with it. Would be kinda neat if they re did the map but have it more industrialized like it would have been in the 20's and 30's.

Bigger towns, actual roads maybe even automobiles. Think they really could do amazing things with it.

I'd love to see more light gun "style" titles. Especially with two consoles having add-ons that could do it either out of the box or with their add-on. Less sure about the 360.

Also, there's been like 30 Testrises.

Red Dead was a sequel in and of itself, you retard. It basically proved that any sequel could be self-contained, because it was.

It was a sequel the same way Perfect Dark was a sequel to Goldeneye, or BioShock was to System Shock - it was a spiritual successor more than an actual sequel.

And look, I made the point without resorting to name-calling. You can do it too!

Tommy Gunn 04-17-2012 11:54 AM

I don't see Red Read Redemption as a real sequel, more of a stand-alone game from the same licence, kind of how every Star Wars game churned out isn't a sequel to every other Star Wars game.

Anyways, I'd love to see another Red Dead game, there's so many rich story lines to be borrowed from old westerns, they just need a new protagonist.

And yet, you didn't make a real point. So perhaps you could save your pedagogy for some time when you actually have a point. And a pulpit.

Though the term "spiritual successor" is douchey enough for you, it's largely dicing hairs in the same sense that one might argue a compact disc isn't really a compact disc, it's a digital information distribution device. It doesn't hurt that it's only relatively recently these titles have stopped being referred to as "spiritual sequels" and only then to differentiate between different types of sequels.

Oh dear.

When exactly did they stop being referred to as spiritual successors? Do you have any proof to back that up or anything?

Douchey or not, it's a pretty widely accepted term as far as I'm aware, especially when the creators of those games use it to describe them and all. It's not splitting hairs in the least. A spiritual successor is as different to a sequel as a prequel, really.

Either way, even if RDR *is* a "real" sequel, my point still stands about you resorting to calling someone a retard just because they may not have been aware of it. :-\

Sepholio 04-18-2012 02:10 PM

And even though it technically had 1.5 sequels, there needs to be a new Chrono Trigger already.

Sepholio 04-18-2012 02:11 PM

I say 1.5 sequels because Radical Dreamers was not really a game, per se. Chrono Cross still gets full credit though and is a very underrated game.

Def Jam had sequels. There is no such thing as a sequel to a sequel. It's only another sequel to the original.

Savio 01-09-2015 12:09 PM

It had "Icon" as its sequel but it used a different engine, I would like them to make a 4th installment in the series using the AKI engine.

Pre-8 Bit era

Adventure-Yeah there is a homebrew Adventure II. But I would loved a real sequel
Airworld-The never finished last part of the Swordquest series

Pro Wrestling-Surprised we never got a sequel on the SNES.

16 bit era
Haunting starring Polterguy-Super fun super unique game that it seems I am the only person that remembers it.
Mutant League Football-With all the money EA makes each year off the shitty Madden games they could give us a sequel to the best football video game ever.

Post 16 bit era

Eternal Darkness-One of the few Gamecube exclusive games worth getting.
SNK VS Capcom Card fighter-No other DS games has gotten as much play as this one.

Polterguy was outstanding. I rented it for 7 days from Red Giraffe (RIP) and beat it.

Think SNK still has a big grudge against Capcom in regards to that series.

Something about how badly SNK got screwed with the terms of that deal during the worst time possible for them. SNK did the bulk of the work and more games while Capcom took the bulk of profits earned and publisher rights to the series.

1) "I'm afraid I've got some BAD NEWS!" Nintendo remade a port for the GameBoy Color. Instead of giving it the "DX" treatment of making it the same thing, but shiny and with extra features, they flat out changed ALL the awesome music to generic garbage, rewrote the entire story, and added this garbled "digitized voice feature" that named the swords when you picked them up. The only thing they made better was ammending the first quest with the guard and the flute so it wasn't Simon's Quest style guesswork.

2) I think you mean "Whomp'em"... a game so memorable you got the title wrong.

3) Pro Wrestling couldn't survive a sequel off the strength of "a winner is you" alone.

I would say WET, but honestly, I would actually like to see the first one finished. To be an incomplete Sierra scrap that Bethesda picked up, packaged, and sold a couple years later it had potential to be a franchise... but it felt undone. I'm pretty sure never seeing Ze Collector again, playing the whole chase of that fat British guy in blood rage, and the anticlimactic quicktime battle with Tarantula were because shit wasn't finished when Sierra went under. A sequel could see a resolution, or at least a continuation, of him presumably trying to "win" Rubi's sword by killing her for it (assuming that is what he's collecting) while she is on some new globetrotting ride through the criminal underworld.

Also, Clash at Demonhead. Love that game, and all the irreverence splashed with game and anime tropes even before it became a thing to share on the internet. The plot can consist of almost anything and still "make sense". Bonus if they nod back and add Scott Pilgrim characters to the background somewhere.

I keep expecting EA to release a Mutant League Football DLC pack one October for Madden. A few years back,I happened to be on the coast when the Super Bowl was happening. I had brought my Genesis with me. During the halftime show I hooked it up and we went split screen. Left side was Mutant League Football, right side Halftime show. I figured after halftime we would stop playing Mutant league. Nope everyone was having more fun playing Mutant league than they were having watching the Superbowl.
