Glad they added Orton/Jericho to the mix. Del Rio vs. Sheamus straight up sounded like a total bore to me.

Not gonna tape this

Vastardikai 05-09-2012 02:37 AM

I consider there to be 3 tiers to the newcomers.

1. Ryback: The guy with Vince's ideal look. Has the raw intensity. Will be WWE Champion.
2. Damien Sandow: A WWE creation more or less. He's been given the time to hype up his talking skills. He kind of reminds me of Lanny Poffo overall, which is a double edged sword. On one hand, Lanny is a good worker and a great talker. On the other hand, he wasn't destined to get over with the gimmick of "The Genius".
3. Antonio Cesaro: A non-WWE creation, and as such is kind of given the short end of the stick. Shit music, shit gimmick, shit angle. Sad thing is, he's the best worker of the 3. If he can survive the stuff working against him, maybe tone down the former-Rugby player aspect of his character and let him actually address the crowd, he could be a big star.

From the Front F'n Page

*Sheamus and Randy Orton vs. Chris Jericho and Alberto Del Rio was thrown out. A big brawl broke out and referees came out to separate the four players in the Over The Limit Fatal Four Way match.

*A.J. defeated Kaitlyn. A.J. destroyed her. Daniel Bryan came out and saw A.J. in a new light. He said that after he wins the WWE Championship, he’s moving on to Kaitlyn.

*Daniel Bryan beat Big Show via John Laurinaitis’s ruling. Laurinaitis interrupted the match and called it in favor of Bryan, claiming Big Show tapped. Laurinaitis then ordered Big Show to apologize again.

*Ryback defeated Heath Slater. Before the match, Heath Slater came out and talked crap about Ryback. He called him a caveman with a peanut brain. Ryback came out and squashed him.

*Antonio Cesaro (w/Aksana) defeated Alex Riley. Teddy Long handled the introductions. Aksana told Long that they are just friends, but she is lovers with Cesaro. Aksana and Cesaro made out in front of Long after the match.
Randy Orton fought Alberto Del Rio to an apparent double DQ. Ricardo interrupted Orton as he was preparing for the match. He jumped from the top rope and was RKO’d. The match was thrown out. Del Rio applied the cross arm breaker after the match.

*R-Truth (w/Kofi Kingston) defeated Jack Swagger (w/Dolph Ziggler, Vickie Guerrero).

*Titus O’Neil and Darren Young defeated Zack Ryder and Santino Marella. Titus and Young ranted about being the next WWE Tag Champions.

*Matt Striker interviewed Damien Sandow and asked him why he didn’t compete. Sandow spoke about being a savior to the masses and a light of beacon for enlightenment.

*Brodus Clay defeated Hunico (w/Camacho). Hunico and Camacho attacked Clay. Brodus came back and went Funkadellic and got the win.

*Sheamus defeated Chris Jericho by DQ. Alberto Del Rio interfered for the DQ. Randy Orton ran out. Del Rio took finishers from the babyfaces, and Jericho ran away. Sheamus and Orton spoke face-to-face. Sheamus left.

#1-norm-fan 05-09-2012 06:34 AM

Same shit probably having to do with postWM scramble to build new characters up. Shit happens all the time!

#1-norm-fan 05-09-2012 08:47 PM

Taking two unbeatable monsters who have been just dominating on different brands for months and pitting them against each other on PPV is a pretty sweet idea.

#1-norm-fan 05-09-2012 08:50 PM

To be fair, the bitching about Brodus doing the "same old shit" is getting ridiculous. He's been actually having matches against Dolph, Swagger and now Miz. Are people really upset that someone is winning matches consistently?

EVERYONE ON THE ROSTER NEEDS TO LOSE HALF THE TIME! THAT'S HOW YOU BUILD CREDIBLE CHARACTERS!

#1-norm-fan 05-09-2012 08:52 PM

Tensai is kinda working into the same spot too. The man has beaten JOHN CENA and CM PUNK. Not exactly "jobber squashes".

And at least Ryback is fun to watch murder annoying heel jobbers.

If they keep their streaks going the way they are going now and maybe get some relatively "tough" matches on PPV like Brodus had with Miz, a Ryback vs Tensai match at SummerSlam could be ridiculously intriguing.

They're clearly punishing him. He's had this gimmick for months and he isn't World Champion yet. I bet Triple H doesn't like him.

It is pretty crazy that they're trying to get three people over at the same time by having them win matches. CRAZY concept.

Mr. Nerfect 05-11-2012 04:47 AM

I really like Lord Tensai, but I don't like "Lord Tensai," if you know what I mean?

I'd love to see him squash Santino for the US Title and then feud with Brodus Clay over it, though.

Tazz Dan 05-11-2012 05:26 AM

Holy shit, AJ is playing her role good. Legit looked like she was gonna snap and kill someone during the Daniel Bryan promo.

Mr. Nerfect 05-11-2012 10:05 AM

I actually care about the female storylines on SmackDown!. AJ vs. Kaitlyn and AJ vs. Natalya are two angles that I would actually really enjoy watching unfold.

Ermaximus 05-11-2012 10:39 AM

Noid, that's because all 3 of them can actually wrestle a match.

Mr. Nerfect 05-11-2012 11:19 AM

Beth Phoenix and Layla are pretty great. The problem with female wrestling in the WWE hasn't really been a lack of talent. It's the lack of getting people to care about women's wrestling.

I actually think that it could be quite profitable for the WWE with a simple change of emphasis. The WWE has plenty of women who are hot and can wrestle. I also think Kharma could be a legitimate attraction to the WWE. If you took the girls who can't wrestle out of the ring, put the focus on the ones that can wrestle and hired some girls that could have some sort of marketable niche in the WWE, then I think you could see an interest in the "Divas Division" increase.

For example:

* One joshi could be used. If you have too many, then it's a case of "more of the same" and that one Japanese female character won't stand-out. Plus, then you'd have the rest of your females looking like shit. You can present her as "cutesy" but have her flare-it-up in the ring. I don't know too many active female Japanese wrestlers, but the idea is to make her a unique plucky babyface that you want to cuddle but could also kick your head off. Someone like an Ayumi Kurihara would be pretty much what I'm talking about -- and she's only 27, which I don't think is too old to be a "Diva."

* A masked female. Why this has not been done is beyond me. There's intrigue there, especially if the girl has a good body and can do some wild moves. Basically, she'd be another plucky babyface that would come with built-in merch for the little girls to buy. There's instant heat for heel girls to get at her with, by implying that she must be hideous under the mask and that sort of thing. Someone like Sexy Star would be ideal, but I'm not sure how great a worker she is. I guess you could even put Ivelisse from Tough Enough under a mask, or something. That sort of thing.

* Put Naomi into the division. Since she's with Brodus Clay, people would care about her.

* Hire Sara Del Ray. She's pretty tremendous. She doesn't fit the "Diva" mold, but that can be to one's advantage, too. She's work fine in a role like the ones that Beth Phoenix and Natalya have played in the past. You could even bring up her training with Daniel Bryan. A feud out of jealousy between her and AJ would be a lot of fun.

* I really wish Rebecca Knox would consider a return to professional wrestling. She's only 25, amazingly cute and can legitimately kick-ass. She and Sheamus would make an interesting on-air alliance. Yes, I did just put them together because they're Irish.

CSL 05-11-2012 11:26 AM

enjoyed Titus O'Neil on this show far more than I feel like I should have done, guy's a riot from what I've seen (which is the grand total of about 3 times now) Young's a bit shit but he's trying/has time. And lol Danielson's face when he's nodding his head just before telling AJ about "moving onto Kaitlyn"

Lock Jaw 05-11-2012 05:03 PM

Daniel Bryan totally used the D.E.N.N.I.S. system on AJ throughout their relationship.

If I was any good at making videos, I would love to make a video of Bryan executing each step on AJ with Dennis' explanation of the D.E.N.N.I.S. system as the audio.

Mr. Nerfect 05-11-2012 07:39 PM

I'm still hoping that AJ proves her "worth" to Daniel Bryan by helping him win the WWE Championship at Over the Limit. Or this entire break-up could be a massive scheme by both of them. Either way, I really like the idea of the two together still.

Ultra Mantis 05-11-2012 08:00 PM

Bryan stole the show yet again, the AJ stuff is always gold.
Cesaro has to be the only guy to come up to WWE thought the indys and end up with worse ring gear than he started with.
Swagger is looking more like Gary Busey every week.
Young and Oh'Nerly can still go fuck themselves.

Mr. Nerfect 05-11-2012 08:06 PM

Cesaro & Ohno should be getting the push that Young & O'Neil are -- but with the Aksana/Teddy Long stuff still there to make casuals care.

Ultra Mantis 05-11-2012 08:13 PM

Any team who can actually perform a double team move that doesnt look like shit should be getting their push. Cesaro / Ohno, Usos, Colons, Hawkins / Reks, Matt Striker / Yoshi Tatsu, Johnny Curtis, etc

I'd prefer AJ turn on Bryan and cost him his chance at winning the title back.

Mr. Nerfect 05-11-2012 09:57 PM

How come?

#1-norm-fan 05-11-2012 10:13 PM

I'm a sucker for a feel good ending in wrestling. After all this time of Bryan being a douche to her, it would be cool to see her run out and grab the title while the ref is down and have Bryan reach for it and yell "Give it to me!" and she goes to hand it to him and then just blasts him in the face with it and snaps out of it with an evil smile and finally gets her revenge on him.

#1-norm-fan 05-11-2012 10:15 PM

Bryan could even get a new girlfriend/valet out of embarrassment after getting his ego crushed by AJ being over him.

Corndad 05-12-2012 12:15 AM

The Bryan/AJ Segment was amazingly done tonight I thought. I agree with the idea that down the line AJ needs to get the upper hand. Maybe even leads to a Divas title win at some point.

Skippord 05-12-2012 07:04 AM

Titus O'Neill and Darren Young really do a good job of making established tag team finishers look shitty

Vastardikai 05-12-2012 09:46 AM

Can Alex Riley have a match where he doesn't botch something?

He couldn't sandbag the gutwrench this time, so he over rotated and landed on his hip.

That said, the whole "Ear breaker" thing is just nasty as hell, and the Gotch-style pancake is a vicious finish.

And Cesaro's music and gimmick STILL suck.

Triple Naitch 05-12-2012 01:35 PM

Love the D-Young/Titus tag team. Wanna get glitter shirts with my best m8 and walk around town like that,

Rammsteinmad 05-12-2012 05:14 PM

Daniel Bryan is so perfect at the moment. When he said he was moving onto Kaitlyn and started laughing, he just came across as the biggest douchebag in the world, and literally seconds later going with the Yes chants. He's basically the opposite of Cena right now. Kids and women can hate him, man can love him.

Kinda think a Cena/Bryan feud would be awesome just for this.

That could work, but you can do that down the line. I would much prefer AJ to be Bryan's dark muse, so to speak. There are so many babyface Divas they are trying to establish at the moment, too. A heel AJ could work so well against Layla and eventually Kharma.

Mr. Nerfect 05-12-2012 06:37 PM

The way they are doing Antonio Cesaro is going to get him over as a heel long before Lord Tensai gets over as a heel.

Flash Funk 05-12-2012 07:45 PM

So if they are not editing out the Goldberg chants directed at Ryback, could they possibly reference the streak in the future?

Flash Funk 05-12-2012 07:46 PM

Also, Daniel Bryan is the greates and for some damn reason, I love Titus and Darren. I know I shouldn't and that objectively they sorta suck, but just can't help myself.

Just goes to show you that even a horrible '90s gimmick stacked atop a generic foreigner gimmick is better than whatever the fuck Tensai's supposed to be.

Though if Tensai started breaking people's ears he'd be over as fuck.

Mr. Nerfect 05-12-2012 08:31 PM

The Usos feuding with Darren Young & Titus O'Neil would be kind of decent. It can get Young & O'Neil some more time to gel as a unit. Tamina could turn on The Usos and start kayfabe banging Darren Young (or really start it -- her private life is her business). Vickie Guerrero then recruits Tamina, Young & O'Neil into her camp, while Ziggler & Swagger remain in singles competition.

I've seen comparisons drawn between Tensai and Umaga that I sort of agree with. Both returned to the WWE after stints away in Japan with cheesy out-dated gimmicks from overseas that we are meant to boo "just because." Their ring work after initially returning leaves people a bit under-whelmed knowing that they can "do more." Also, they have taken old-school moves that shouldn't be cool in 2012 and have "brought them back."

Tensai will eventually get over when he gets a bit more comfortable and starts having awesome matches with the right opponents. Cesaro will get over quicker because he's in a storyline. Teddy Long is such a sympathetic dude, and Cesaro just totally stole his woman.

Ya pretty much. I think WWE has built Ryback enough with the jobbers though, and he is beginning to get the crowd response (albeit a Goldberg one) now. They seem to have scrapped the people backstage mocking the opponents part *hopefully*

Pintint 05-13-2012 10:44 AM

I actually really like Cesaro's gimmick and music. It's something new and unique and fits him to a tee. Its better than having him just be some "intense wrestling machine" newcomer.

Ultra Mantis 05-13-2012 10:44 AM

All the ones who were doing the mocking are now being squashed. Hunico, McIntyre Usos, and Alicia Fox are going to be Next (in that order).

Asmo 05-13-2012 11:22 AM

The only SmackDown i saw this week was the Daniel Bryan / AJ segment. AJ going nuts on Kaitlyn was awesome. The chick can act. Can't wait for some sort of blowup where AJ finally gets good on Bryan.

They really need to figure out what to do with the brands wether to go back to being exclusive (of course this applies more to RAW as of late) or dissolve it all together cuz I feel that guys like Brodus are starting to get a little too overexposed compared to the other newer talents on the roster.

Brodus is everywhere these days. He'll start getting booed in a little bit. Fans are going to get tired of his act.

I actually really like Cesaro's gimmick and music. It's something new and unique and fits him to a tee. Its better than having him just be some "intense wrestling machine" newcomer.

I'm the same. It's not like he dresses as a Rugby player coming to the ring. It's just something to give him a little story and explain that he's more man than most men. It's also something a bit foreign to American crowds, and xenophobia still prevails in many pro-wrestling crowds.

That's just because Brodus is so over. I think that eventually they'll move him into something more serious, but if it's working at the moment, why change it?
