Watch Dogs

if you're like me and didn't see the Ubisoft E3 stuff, czech it. Looks great, only thing that really "stood out" for me along with Beyond and South Park that I've seen so far.

#BROKEN Hasney 06-05-2012 09:41 AM

Industry people are saying they're sure this isn't PS3/360 and will be next gen. I'm torn, I would expect a bigger jump for that and this may just be a PC version they're showing off.

As for the game though, looks phenomenal.

Fignuts 06-05-2012 12:58 PM

Dunno, never thought once while watching it, that it looked too good to be current gen.

LoDownM 06-05-2012 03:10 PM

I don't think it's next gen and hope it isn't. The graphics looked similar to Beyond to me.

Supposedly Ubisoft confirmed it's for PS3/360/PC. I say supposedly because I saw it on Wikipedia.

Requiem 06-05-2012 03:13 PM

Wow, this looks fantastic.

Didn't think it looked next gen. Just a really nice usage of current gen.

LoDownM 06-05-2012 04:27 PM

And confirmed for current gen.

Buzzkill 06-06-2012 07:39 PM

This looks fucking awesome

ClockShot 06-06-2012 09:51 PM

Yeah. I was watching it today and it looked amazing. Could have sworn the guy was using a PS3 controller to do the demo.

I'll grab it, no doubt about it. But, you guys ever watch that new show Person of Interest? Kinda reminded me of that.

Skippord 06-07-2012 12:44 AM

Watch Dogs (stylized as WATCH_DOGS ) is an upcoming cyberpunk-themed stealth science fiction open world third-person action-adventure video game

quite a mouthful, and yeah this looks pretty rad

Swiss Ultimate 06-07-2012 07:03 PM

I love the detail more than anything.

Kane Knight 06-08-2012 11:41 AM

I love the differences between regions.

The Destroyer 06-09-2012 08:46 AM

This looks lovely. I can't wait to play the watered down current gen console version we'll no doubt get. :(

Stop stealing Reqtum's gimmick.

The Destroyer 06-09-2012 12:12 PM

I wasn't aware he had a gimmick.

Kane Knight 06-09-2012 12:37 PM

It's not really a gimmick so much as him being a complete idiot.

Requiem 06-09-2012 12:47 PM

I'd say it's better than never voicing a real opinion, but I'm sure you disagree with that notion.

Kane Knight 06-09-2012 01:20 PM

Reqtum runs Skyrim on an Apple 2C.

Requiem 06-09-2012 01:29 PM

What does that even mean? What are you even making fun of? Second time you've made a comment like that and it makes no more sense than the first time. In any context. Is it just so you can have a private laugh when it goes over my head so you can pat yourself on the back at how clever you are?

This was the speculation going around in the first place about several titles, wasn't it? We were seeing next gen games disguised as current get titles?

Frank Drebin 06-11-2012 07:59 PM

Love that its set in Chicago, but I live there so I'm a tad biased.

Hope I can burn down my office building.

Ubisoft already considering selling the rights to make a movie based on the game just from the reaction gained from the E3 debut.

http://www.screwattack.com/news/ubis...tch-dogs-movie

Kane Knight 06-18-2012 02:37 AM

What could possibly go wrong with that?

Emperor Smeat 06-29-2012 06:37 PM

I think Ubisoft went a little too much with the whole idea of everything being hackable and visible since it was revealed during a promotion, the company accidentally leaked out everyone's email who joined.

Quote:

Everybody who signed up for updates was sent this message, however this isn’t the interesting part, whoever sent this email included everyone’s email address in the CC line and not the Bcc line, meaning that users are now stuck receiving countless emails. This also means that every user’s email address is visible to everyone, and while not much can be done with just an email address, but in today’s world it’s a little worrying to see.

Emperor Smeat 02-16-2013 06:50 PM

Some promotional stuff was recently leaked leading to the current speculation of Ubisoft might be including the Wii U and next gen consoles for the game when its launched later this year.

So far only the PS3, PC, and Xbox 360 have been confirmed while the Wii U was only rumored to be getting the game.

Ubisoft officially confirmed the game will arrive on the Wii U, PS4, and next Xbox. The announcement was made shortly after the game was announced for the PS4 during Sony's announcement show.

Watch_Dogs will be available on PS4 at launch, along with its release on the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the Wii U™ system from Nintendo and Windows PC.

Emperor Smeat 02-26-2013 06:09 PM

According to Ubisoft, even though this game was originally announced for current gen consoles first, the game was actually developed for next gen consoles before they decided to also make it for the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Also tease the PC version is the superior version since it acts as the bridge between gens and as the main platform the game is being developed on.

http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/...onsoles-first/

In regards to the Wii U version, they are still tinkering on what to do with the Gamepad for features.

VSG 02-27-2013 12:20 AM

Developing for PC and porting to consoles is the way to do it right, good for them. I might now pick this up on a Steam sale or something.

#BROKEN Hasney 02-27-2013 07:08 AM

Every game will now probably be developed for DirectX/OpenGL on PC and ported over now since the consoles are so close to it anyway. Even then, they still might not bother releasing the PC version.

VSG 02-27-2013 01:48 PM

Fuck'em then.

Ubisoft announces the release date for the game is November 19 for North America and November 22 for Europe.
Quote:

Watch Dogs launches on PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U November 19 in North America, November 22 in Europe.

Ubisoft also stressed that Watch Dogs would be released for PS4 and Xbox [Whatever], but did not provide a specific release date for those versions. It seems save to say, however, that the Watch Dogs release date strongly implies both consoles will be available for purchase no later than November 19.
A special edition poster was announced as part of the pre-order exclusive from Gamestop.

For those interested in the PS4 and Xbox One version, the creative director for the game stated it will only run in 30 fps and haven't decided what its native resolution will be.

Quote:

According to creative director Jonathan Morin in an interview with VideoGamer, "Right now the frame rate we're focusing on [is] a steady 30[FPS]. There's always a balance, especially for open world, between the simulation and the rest. I think for where we are, the most important thing is the steadiness and [ensuring] that it's always capped the same so when you play it it feels right." Disappointing, if not predictable.

Perhaps more worrisome is Morin's inability to confirm Watch Dogs' native resolution. The creative director wasn't sure if the game would run at 720p or 1080p on PS4 and Xbox One.

May 27th launch date. About a month early. Here's a new story trailer to go along with the announcement.

Emperor Smeat 03-06-2014 06:05 PM

For those interested in the Wii U version, Ubisoft still has it planned for a 2014 release although the senior producer and creative director revealed why it got delayed in the first place.

Quote:

One of the reasons the Wii U version of the game isn't hitting the same release date as every other platform is because it's the only version not being developed in concert by the team in Montreal.

"We have our studio in Bucharest working on it, and we wanted that team to have the time to explore the GamePad and be able to have fun with it and see how far they could push it," he said. "It's also an interesting platform, because it has its own strength, which we want to take advantage of, and we didn't want to delay all the other platforms for that one. So we're going to take the time we need to make sure the game is good (technically) when we ship it and that it also, game design-wise, makes good use of the specifics of the Wii U."
Quote:

"It's been paused," Morin states of the Wii U build, "which means delayed."

"There were some very talented programmers working on it and, when we started to point at the things we needed to fix, we needed those guys and their experience. It was a logical choice to say - let's get those people, let's pause the Wii U thing, let's make sure the experience is where we wanted to be."

Once other versions are done, "then Wii U can get back into place," he concludes.

Beta rumored to be occurring at least on the Xbox One before its launch.

Quote:

Watch Dogs appears set to have a closed beta on Xbox One before its May 27 release. A listing for the The beta showed up prematurely on the console's marketplace.

The observant player posted an image of the closed beta to reddit. The download clocks in at more than 23GB, and supports up to eight players, suggesting that it's the multiplayer component that will be tested. However, a singleplayer option's also mentioned.

It's currently unknown how the beta can be registered for, or what date it might launch. Additionally, the listing has since been pulled from the digital store.

I'm not holding my breath on this one.
It looks good, got a nice atmosphere, and some interesting gameplay mechanics.
However, getting pretty tired of these flimsy plot lines of "I did some bad stuff with my amazing skills and now people I love are dead, lets go get some revenge!"

But hey, looks like a fun game I can dick around in and hit folks with cars, so there's that!

Yeah, pretty sure the gameplay and story will prove to be far more in-depth than that. I personally can't wait to test all kinds of different methods of approaching the same mission/section of the game.

The additional single-player campaign puts players in control of T-Bone Grady, an “eccentric hacker and ally to Aiden,” who—as expressed in the season pass trailer above—has an affinity for blowin’ things up because he’s not, the man himself stresses, a hippie.

The new Digital Trip mission—optional quests that send the players into virtual reality playground that allows fore more arcade-y gameplay experiences than the main narrative permits, like stomping about Chicago in a spider tank. The season pass’ Digital Trip mission sees Aiden hunting cyborgs masquerading as everyday Chicagoans.

The season pass also includes the Untouchables Pack, which allows players to dress Aiden up in 1920s mobster–inspired ensembles and an M1 SMG. In North America, this add-on will only be available through the season pass.

What did you expect though? It is 900p on the PS4 which when upscaled to a standard 1080p TV will look worse than if it was a 900p monitor. That weird 792p resolution on the Xbone will be even worse!

I did not know that, explains a lot.

Emperor Smeat 05-26-2014 06:06 PM

For those who like to go the torrent route:

Quote:

Well, the latest trend in viruses is secret Bitcoin miners, and it seems that somebody jumped on the Watch Dogs hype-train to make some quick coin. Seems almost fitting considering the theme of the game, though the irony is probably not as entertaining if you’ve fallen victim to the hack.

One of the most seeded copies of Watch Dogs available online is reported to also install a Bitcoin mining virus on the computer of its victims. Blue Screen crashes, additional power consumption, and an overall unstable computer await those unlucky pirates that couldn’t wait for release day or didn’t want to spend the cash for a legit copy of Watch Dogs.
At least one copy was verified as a fake and a few others as supposed fakes.

As like most Ubisoft games, car handling sucks.

VSG 05-27-2014 02:35 PM

The city is pretty great, better than any sandbox game I have played. I won't go a whole lot further till Ubisoft patches the PC version though, stupid bugs and video ram memory leaks everywhere.

Car handling isn't as bad as the majority are making it out to be. It's definitely not great, but some people are acting like it breaks the game, when it totally doesn't.

Loving this so far. Ubisoft have pretty much mastered the open world stealth game at this point. So fun, and so much to do.

The car physics are more realistic than most games out there, probably why people are bitching about it. No sudden response to turns or anything.

I am so glad my GPUs have 3 gigs of VRAM, those ultra textures look soooooo good!

Music question. Do you classify the band Chicago as Pop or Rock?

I've always thought of them as a rock band. Yet Ubisoft has the gall to put them in the pop category in the music playlist. Legit pissed at this.

Side note: Conversations with Jordi have me laughing.

There is a pretty awesome easter egg in the intrusion mini game.

Heisenberg 06-02-2014 02:26 AM

I need clarification, are real people jumping into my game to steal my shit? I've had two of those events kick off and both of them didn't shoot me when I found them. I shot one up in his car like he was 50 cent and the other I found jacking off by a fence and he came and started running. The gamer tag and post screen looked legit. I don't know if this bs is going to occur again while I'm trying to progress in story

Heisenberg 06-02-2014 02:31 AM

Fuck, posted too late, I'll check in the morning and see if a fellow Watch_Doge replies or not

Fignuts 06-02-2014 02:37 AM

Yeah, they are other players, besides the mandatory one that you do as a single player mission. You can turn it off by going into the online section of options.

Heisenberg 06-02-2014 03:07 PM

Sweet, I didn't mind it much. I just want to finish the campaign then I'll entertain these guys

VSG 06-03-2014 11:26 PM

lol I remember when the in-game prompt came in asking me to hack someone else's game only for the game to realize Uplay was down as always.

Only barely scratched the surface of this because I gave it a try my last visit to the nearly next-door game shop. PS4 version.

So far, I can say it's very easy to just pick up and play w/o needing tutorials or anything. Always nice to see entry-level accessibility with any game these days. Too many that just seem to rely on hand-holding tutorial missions/sections when they should just let people mostly figure stuff out on their own.

Have gotten through one whole story mission, the rest of my time was spent eluding cops, exploring the city in-car/on-foot, screwing around with interacting with traffic lights and other things, intervening in crimes in progress, profiling people with the in-game smartphone app thing the guy has and occasionally hacking people's phones to get their $ and add it to my account @ the nearest ATM. It's safe to say I'm not nearly through yet.

ClockShot 06-17-2014 04:09 PM

So, anybody here get their online trophies yet?

Sepholio 06-19-2014 05:40 PM

Not yet, but I'm about to work on them in the next few days.

Having trouble with traced?

Emperor Smeat 06-19-2014 06:40 PM

Ubisoft states a patch is on its way meant to fix several gameplay issues with the bulk being PC fixes. It will also be arriving at different dates depending on the platform.

Quote:

The patch is being rolled out on a staggered release schedule, with the PlayStation 4 patch quoted to have been coming out "in the next few hours" as of the Watch Dogs team's forum posting. The PS3 version is "coming shortly," with the PC patch arriving in "the coming days." Xbox One and Xbox 360 players should expect their patch next week or so.

A mini patch for the PC came in today and it just ended up overwriting a great graphics mod I had got from a Guru3D user. For all I am concerned, the patch just made it worse.

Sepholio 06-20-2014 12:38 AM

PS4 patch dropped yesterday unless they had another one today.

Sepholio 06-20-2014 12:38 AM

They need to patch those stupid fucking drinking games though. Those things are ridiculous to the nth.

ClockShot 06-20-2014 11:20 AM

Practice makes perfect. Once you get the patterns down, it'll come natural.

ClockShot 06-20-2014 10:32 PM

Beat and platinum'd this.

Story could have been a lot better. Should have taken that extra time to improve on it.
