Who do you guys think was had the best mic skills
In my personal opinion, I think it would have to be the Rock. The guy was just phenomenal with getting the crowd all riled up and excited plus he was talented in the ring.
My 2nd would probably be a young Chris Jericho he was funny and gave a new meaning to the suffix holic (Jerichoholics anonymous). Although as of right now I think it would be CM Punk. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zux-po8YorY Since this is kind of a relevant addition to the topic, what do you think makes a fantastic heel/face. What do you guys think?:shifty: |
fuck.. forget about the error i made in the title i edited it a bunch of times and forget to delete the was..
|
I hate Skip Bayless, and his fucking mic skills.
|
In all seriousness I like Punk and Ziggler when they give him a mic.
I agree the Rock was excellent as well as Austin, and really enjoyed Kurt Angle back during the 3 I's when he was a goofier wrestling machine. |

Macho Man comes to mind who was a heel/face and everything he said was gold
|
There is no question who is the best at it! The mic work is a huge freaking contribution to the making of Stone Cold and The Rock. If Punk would have kept the balls he had in his summer, he would have been up there too, but he really watered hmself down. Cena is about the best you're gonna get right now, and because the PG shit censors what he can and can't say, we're not really seeing his true potential, and it might be too late to use it if there is a change in policy, but don't quote me on that.
|
Probably The Rock as far as just being entertaining on the mic.
As far as actually hyping a match via a promo, I'd probably go with Foley. |
Randy Savage
Chris Jericho Ric Flair Rick Rude |

In all honesty though, I really think CM Punk is the best mic guy, if not ever, then certainly 'up there'. The guy just knows how to work the mic. He knows how to talk and tell a story. He knows exactly what to say, and what snarky insults to make, to work the crowd. And as we saw last year, much like Austin's "3.16" promo, Punk is the guy who can, will, and did, cut a promo that'll make or break his career.
CM Punk is a lot more easy to relate to through his promos too. He knows what to say, and which mannerisms and tones to use, to really make his words connect to the viewer. When Rock comes out, screaming and shouting, repeating the usual catchphrases and repeating the same impressions, he's entertaining as hell, but ultimately, that's his job. He's an entertainer. Punk really is "the voice of the voiceless", He's one of us. He'll flat out say what he thinks, in a way that normal people like us 'get', without resorting to constantly using the same catchphrases, screaming and shouting. Even his "that's bullshit" line a few weeks back... that would have only worked with a guy like CM Punk, because he understands perfectly how to deliver a line, and use it to full effect. |
Just re-read my post. The fuck am I waffling on about? :wtf:
Not a shot at The Rock by the way, as I think he's amazing on the mic, just saying that I really think when it comes to promos and talking, CM Punk is the goods. :y: In particular, besides his "shoot promo" last year, I loved the line he used to Cena, about how he was the underdog, and that Cena was the "New York Yankees". The deliverence of that line was incredibly well done. |

Hulk Hogan.
|
Hogan. Could sell matches just from his promos alone and had the crowd in the palm of his hands every time he spoke. The backlash alone from his first ever nWo promo was huge in how legit angry the crowd became and got worse as he trashed them.
Closest to him would be between The Rock, Austin, and Jericho. |
I don't think there's been a guy as good and/or entertaining on the mic as "Macho Man" Randy Savage.
Ric Flair's close, though. But I'll go with The Macho King. |
Paul Heyman
|
I think that Ric flair was had the best mic skills. Woooooo!

Rowdy Roddy Piper!!

Certainly guys like Punk, Ziggler and Rhodes are the best guys on the mic in WWE right now. Ziggler, especially, has a very natural, likeable delivery in everything he does. All time would probably be a toss up between HBK or Jericho.

Del Rio is an odd case of seeming to have a ton of charisma but being completely boring on the mic.
I remember when he debuted, I thought he was pretty great during his first few promos. Then they slowly became the formulaic bore-fests that they are today. |

JBL is not slightly better on the mic than Del Rio. JBL is ridiculously better on the mic than Del Rio. They're like night and day.

Booker t makes me laught. He is beyond bad but after so many years of dry cole and bad booby jokes by Jerry...a little black comedy not starring Tyler perry is pretty tite dawg.
|
I think Cole had re-energized his career by going heel. It could be wearing off now though. Not like he was really ever a traditional PBP guy anyways.
I think they should go back to the three person team for both shows. Have Jerry and Cole bitch at each other and Josh or Matt Striker can call the matches. |

Jerry needs the boot. So stale. And only he laughs at his own, little quips. I assume he hired Bruce vilanch to sit back stage and feed him corny one liners...

I would have said Punk was on top, because he is one of my favorites, but I just don't hear the magic I heard in his prime. The problem with him is your prior post, he started to bow down instead of keeping the flame lit. His Summer material was supposed to be unscripted, but you can obviously tell that what he says now is scripted. He got popular because he stepped out of the box, not get back in it. Wasn't there talk about him giving advice to Mcmahon about the storyline? What happened there? Was that just Ryan Clark trying to make gossip equivalent to telling people that he broke up with his ex girlfriend because she was churning his asshole at night with a radio antenna-dildo jizzin out misinformation that crawled up into his brain and hence the reason some of his news articles did not come into fruition? |

King in the 90's was one of the best heel mic workers you could have asked for. The guy knew how to push exactly the right button to get somebody so pissed off, they were ready to jump the railing. I know a lot of people don't like him as a face, but I don't mind him much these days. A good Lawler scream during a match is always fun.

His feud with Piper was pretty great too.
|
It was, and truthfully, the Piper thing is a key part of what made King a perfect heel in the 90's. There's something instantly satisfying about seeing a chickenshit, loudmouth heel like Lawler start with someone, then get their ass kicked. It's worked from day one in pro wrestling, and Lawler just excelled at it.

Actually, the Dudley Boys are underrated with their mic skills. These guys knew how to draw heat unlike anybody I've ever seen.

Oh yeah, Bully Ray gets busy on the mic. One of my favorites of today.

D-Von can go fuck himself, though. Testify.
|
I'm content with the quality of this thread. :y:
|
Bubba has the voice of a real New York asshole. He wins me over!
DVon aint' much of a speaker on his own, but the two together do some great shit! |
I don't remember D-Von ever really doing a ton of talking when they were a team, and it's pretty obvious why now when you see them on their own.
|
He didn't, but he announced the Three Dudley Commandments (not really catchy, but was a good part of their character in the beginning of their WWF career), and,"Oh Brutha, TESTIFY!" Truthfully, though, Bubba's the real mouthpiece, even when he was stuttering.
|
I think you're on the money with your point about Bully's accent. He comes off so believable in his promos. He doesn't have to ham it up and play a character that he's clearly not. He looks and sounds the part. I feel like his current character is probably pretty close to him in real life, just amped up a bit...which is a lot more than we could say for Bubba Ray Dudley.
|
His promos actually put most of those in WWE to shame. People in WWE talk sssslow and are hammed up too much on the mic, giving off a feeling that they're having to think hard to remember what was written on the script. I guess WWE management scares their people so much that they dare not go off of it. TNA, however, you can tell gives them some breathing room, which may have hurt them at times, but may end up saving them in the end. It just comes naturally to Bully, and you notice people do have an easier time talking if it is close to their true character. I think TNA will give him more freedom to do it eventually.

Vince McMahon......

Paul Heyman has always impressed me on the microphone, whether its as the leader of ECW, as a manager of the Dangerous Alliance or Brock Lesnar, as the rebel shooter in the WWE, or as a commentator. The combination of Heyman and Jim Ross is probably my hands down favorite commentator team ever. I think they are a big part of the reason why WrestleMania X-7 is my favorite WrestleMania of all time - the calls were magnificent. Where guys like The Rock and Stone Cold went back to the well of what got a good pop time and time again, Heyman never had a catchphrase or a phrase to get a big pop. There are few men in the wrestling industry who could take a microphone and speak as passionately, eloquently, intelligently and powerfully as Paul Heyman. And more impressive to me is the fact that even when he was shooting on Vince McMahon in the middle of a WWE ring during the buildup to the All or Nothing WWE vs The Alliance match at Survivor Series, he still managed to make it a "wrestling promo" to build up the match. |
My personal favorite was Scott Steiner in the nWo days. With Buff Bagwell, they said some funny shit! Ripping on Ric Flair, and Atlanta Falcons coach Dan Reeves were fucking golden.

https://p.twimg.com/AvpAvRUCAAEOc51.jpg:large https://si0.twimg.com/profile_images...t_18.10__2.jpg Damn, Beyond The Mat is damn 12 years old now. I wish they would make a sequel, but WWE wouldn't give them anywhere near the access and TNA would make the industry look bad. |

I bet Mick Foley is a cool fucking dad, you just got to deal with the emotional trauma of seeing him get physically destroyed in your childhood and occasionally in your teen years.

Didn't think Mick had it in him to produce such a pretty girl. Guessing she looks like her mother.
Also... Bobby The Brain Heenan - As a manager and an announcer one of the best stick men ever. |
The Miz is pretty underrated on the mic.
|
No he's not.
