Super Smash Bros. 4 (WiiU/3DS)
|
Yeah, smash bros. whoo
|
Where's Mega Man?
|
Shouldn't we start this thread once it has new information?
|
- Smaller roster.

But then someone goes and does the right thing by starting a new thread and suddenly he cries foul because, apparently, there has been no new information. Get the fuck out of here my dude, you fool no one. |

He listen her motherfucker as I stated before A new topic should be created when we get some actual news muthafucka. Its on now mo faka!
|
I'd say the Namco thing qualifies as concrete news.
|
Smaller roster, really? I WANT MORE CHARACTERS.

YOU'RE the joke, busta.
ooooooo shit son |
Ohh it's on now bruh.
|
It looks like Sakurai has confirmed on Twitter that Geno from Mario RPG and Issac from Golden Sun will be included. Don't quote me on this, but I've also heard baby Mario could be a character as well.
|
Quote where you heard it from.
|
Was already confirmed to have been a fake tweet by someone else weeks ago.
He did however leave the possibility of both being included in the future but nobody has been confirmed so far besides the obvious ones. http://allisbrawl.com/blogpost.aspx?id=139067 |

Some of us could merely post news without sources, but it takes a degree of credibility to do that and not be called on it (I've been posting news for years, I think I earned skipping a link or two). On the other hand, some sources themselves are dubious! But yeah, try not to pass info from the grapevine. We're quite thorough. Good day, Curt. |
I politely asked not to be quoted.
|
Oh, I'm sorry.
*punches you* Welcome to the Roughnecks, son. |
Hey be nice, he did ask.

A couple of small details from Harada where he states Smash Bros has been given "top priority" status at Namco, the Tekken team will join development after Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is done, and probably the biggest news of nobody from Tekken is scheduled to be included in the game.
http://www.destructoid.com/smash-bro...o-231053.phtml |
I'd rather not see Mega Man in the game. There's enough "heroes" so why not throw in Guts Man, or Cut Man instead? Besides, Mega Man is either going to be too much like Samus or too much like Kirby.
|
I love when people generalize similarities between two different characters.
"X23/She-Hulk will be a Wolverine/Hulk clone!" Mega-Man would not play like Samus. |
Plus you can't have a Megaman villain without MegaMan
|
I would play a fighting game that is all megaman characters.
No, the power fighters does not count. |
I also want Mega Man in Smash Bros.
I also agree with Fignuts. |
Mega Man would have been in Brawl if it wasn't for Nintendo being upset over Capcom breaking their exclusive "Capcom 5" agreement for the Gamecube. I think that is how it opened the door for Snake to be in Brawl since Kojima begged both Konami and Nintendo once he saw the opportunity while Brawl was never meant to have more than 2 third party characters.
No reason for Mega Man to not be in the next one unless this time Capcom flat out refuses. The robot masters would act as assist trophies/characters. |
I don't think Nintendo holds 'grudges' like that. Also should avoid assumptions like how many third party characters were supposed to be in Brawl. I've heard a lot of stories about Brawl's development and the conspiracy theories related to lack of Mega-Man/Pac Man and how Sonic and Snake got included.
Never any hard source for these stories. And Sakurai is fairly open about his tenure on the franchise. I have my own little theory: Sonic and Snake got in because their parent companies simply asked. Sakurai and Nintendo overall seem chill enough to be open to all sorts of guest characters, Capcom characters included, license and tone permitting. I believe Capcom didn't care to ask at the time. I'd buy that over the Big N holding roster spots ransom. |
Nintendo holds grudges for a long time. They held a grudge against Square Soft for a very long time when they abandoned them to make Final Fantasy VII a Sony exclusive. I don't recall any Square game appearing on the N64 or the Gamecube.
|
I just want more characters. Any characters, really. Give me the nameless guy from Mach Rider. I don't care. The doctor from Gyromite, even. What about one of the cars from Stunt Race FX? I would play as 4WD.
|
That was a two-way street, Square didn't believe in cartridges as a medium so the protest was mutual.
Pretty they had stuff on GCN and a bunch on the handhelds since. |
Quote:
It was only rumored Nintendo rejected Mega Man but plausible since they really resented loosing Resident Evil 4's exclusiveness and even Mikami himself who promised to cut his own head off was ashamed at Capcom. Sakurai was quoted to have said after Sonic was revealed that at least "one or two" more extra third party characters were to be revealed for Brawl. It only ended up being Snake but it did lead to more rumors of Mega Man was meant to have been the other. Kojima admitted he had to beg to get Snake included since he wasn't originally planned for Brawl. http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/19/th...sh-bros-brawl/ |

If it's just a thought, that's whatever. But I've heard this in more places than here and it seems like people just really wanted Mega Man in Brawl. |
Mostly from Wikipedia that has the whole "Capcom 5" saga and some from memory either from IGN or EGM/Gamepro at the time. Do remember Mikami's promise of cutting his head off from IGN at the time.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capcom_Five I think the reason for Mega Man and third party character themselves was certain requirements that either the character had to be a mascot-type which fits Mega Man as Capcom's big mascot or has to have a lot of history with Nintendo consoles which really fits Mega Man more than Snake. In Japan there was a fan voting poll about which third party characters to include which did have Mega Man as the #2 character and then nobody else close to those two. Sonic was #1 overall and I think the poll itself was meant to be used to determine who gets placed in the very limited spots. http://m.ign.com/articles/2011/05/27...ash-bros-brawl |
More specifically, I'm asking how you thought it was was plausible Nintendo rejected MM for the reasons stated. And the poll means very little in regard to was supposed to be in the game.
I'm just saying, there may be a very simple non-special reason for MM not getting in. |
Its only speculation but a lot of the rumors usually point to either the Capcom 5 or Resident Evil 4 as being the "trigger" for the constant rejections when Brawl was early in development.
Brawl supposedly started development around mid-2005 which would place it months after RE 4 was released and Capcom announcing shortly before RE4 was released that there would be a PS2 version. Tried to find some actual sources that would have said anything definitive about it but one was a reference to podcast that is no longer available and another is supposedly an Xplay story but can't be found due to how badly G4 mismanaged archiving stuff when they've redone their site a few times. Closest is a quote from MegaMan's creator that says he was never personally contacted around the time of the game's Japanese release although he didn't mention anything about Capcom. |
I know he might not be to popular but I'd love to see "Crash" in the new one.
Crash Bandicot, not Crash Holly. |
and Billy/Jimmy from Double Dragon.
|
Unofficial fan voting for potential roster spots in the upcoming Smash Bros game recently started with the winner and the final round of the poll itself to be presented to Sakurai during this year's Tokyo Game Show event.
The idea is for Nintendo to see what other regions besides Japan favor for characters although rumors of 4chan messing up the poll results probably means whoever wins or even the top vote getters won't be considered at all (ex. random obscure Pokemon character was winning at one point). Sakurai in the past has supported these fan voting while an official fan vote in Japan during the development of Brawl influenced Sonic being included as the first 3rd party character. Current results so far: http://www.screwattack.com/news/you-...mash-bros-game http://www.destructoid.com/vote-on-t...l-231304.phtml |
Can't wait for Mega Man to get in and be trash.

when are the finals?

New rumor states the big difference between the Wii U and 3DS version is for character focus.
The Wii U version would focus mostly on modern characters while the 3DS would focus more on retro characters. Quote:
I'd assume the rumored connectivity plans would involve these "exclusive" type characters being moveable so that you'd be able to get the retro characters on the Wii U and modern on the 3DS as a bonus for owning both versions. |
That is kinda cool. I like the retro only idea.
|
Nice.
|
What modern properties?
I don't want to play pikimin vs Cooking Mama. |
Yes you do.
|
All the fighters are getting new moves which ends up being the official reason why the roster won't expand beyond Brawl's size. The idea is to spend more time balancing and making new moves which would also prevent the moves from being shared by too many characters and lessen the need for clone characters.
In terms of Nintendo's side, there will be several new characters with at least 4 teased in an earlier interview. http://wiiudaily.com/2012/08/super-s...-characters-2/ It also appears the reason Namco was given the right to help develop Super Smash Bros was due to their commitment on bringing Tekken to the Wii U and support for the 3DS which lead Nintendo to reward them with a contract to help Sora studio. Also because Namco is a lot closer in trust and communication with Sakurai than Capcom or other big studios with experience in fighters. http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/...sh-bros-wii-u/ |

WOO Screen Shots coming :)
Quote:
|
Screenshots? Fucking trailer, fuckers.
|
If that's taken from the Januray Nintendo Direct, I think there was a mix up and he meant screens in addition to a trailer or something. He basically didn't say exactly what he meant to.
|
I know TPWW isn't a "wishlist" kind of place but does anyone have any characters/stages/modes/music they really hope is in?
Everyone online keeps saying they want the same 5 characters in. Geno, Isaac, Megaman, Bomberman and Waluigi. Nintendo probably has something insane like 1000 possible characters from their games and everyone asks for the same guys. As much as I'd like to see Waluigi, I have a couple of possibley more interesting characters I'd want in. One of which is Doshin the Giant. He needs to be in. Quote:
|
Classic Mega-Man and Bomberman might be cool guests, but I'm thinking we'll see Namco-Bandai guests considering their role.
I trust Nintendo with the roster, I don't really have a 'want' character. |
So, Pacman.
|
On top of Doshin the Giant, I really want Chibi-Robo.
|
That would be cool.
|
I have a lot of character ideas but they're no main stream characters from "system seller" series so they're really unlikely. Even though I always thought of SB as a place that would give us the more unusual characters. I get the feeling it'll be a predictable roster with little to no surprise.
Doshin the Giant Chibi Robo Captain Rainbow Maybe Non-Specific Action Figure as a massive gag character or Assist trophy. |
Guy from Ghosts n Goblins
|
Capcom's call on Arthur.
|
Wasn't there mumbling that they were looking for a new take on the series and everyone was thinking that could mean 3D style like Tekken instead of the 2D style?
Would be cool if there was a 3D Story Mode. Running around the Mushroom Kingdom in 3D as Link or something. |
There was mumbling but like hell they'd change the game for no reason at all.
|
They put tripping in for no reason.
|
There was reason for that, Sakurai spoke at length about it.
And even that isn't on par with changing the fundamental design. Not even close. |
I've no problem with tripping. The Dojo post about it didn't really justify it, if I remember rightly.
I think a lot of the "It's gonna be 3D" talk was because Namco are involved. |
Which is ridiculous.
|
I've had a sudden thought. With the rumour that the Wii U version will feature modern characters and the 3DS version will feature retro characters, what if they made the story about traveling through Nintendos history?
You go through the timeline for Donkey Kong in the arcade to the present day. |
Doesn't matter to me, I just play the multiplayer.
|
I play every mode. Multiplayer, challenges, online, stage creation, arcade, survival, story. I like to squeeze as much out as I can.
If you didn't play story mode, you missed this fantastic scene: SPOILER: show |
I seen all the cutscenes. YouTube is great for that.
|
That cutscene did give me a pretty big grin when I saw it for the first time.
|
A lot of it was fucking awesome.
|
Captain Falcon commits genocide as soon as he shows up.
|
Speaking of; we need a new F-Zero.
|
Need to ask Sega for that to happen. Nintendo is still waiting for them to come up with something for a new game.
|
Pretty sure they're testing the water for a new F-Zero. They include F-Zero in Nintendoland and people ask for F-Zero U. They then sell F-Zero as part of the Famicom celebrations and even more people ask for F-Zero U.
|

You win prize money to improve your ship and to improve your standing in the game. For example, winning the Jester Cup will make you popular enough to be invited to more GPs while winning street races will get you invited to more street races. They could add a minor RPG style element of using your money to hold press events to build hype for your races which would make the pay off better. You could improve your PR with posters, billboards etc. If I gave it real thought I could make it sound better. Right now, I'm typing as I think. |
F-Zero in the style of F-fucking-Zero. High speed on gravity bending tracks with bitchin music. That's all.
|
Well, if they're looking for "something new" before the make another game then we aren't going to get the standard F-Zero. Which is why I suggested my idea.
|
I'm thinking expanded multiplayer akin to some of the recent Need For Speed games. You can do that without the tacked on open world thing.
In any case I trust Nintendo to keep things gully. They don't do drastic silliness like Capcom and others. |
It all depends what they mean by "something new". I don't think more players is what they have in mind.
|
I'm a believer that when says they wanna do something special; they have gamers in mind.
If this was EA or Activision I'd lower my expectations considerably. |
I just can't think of what could be "new" to an F-Zero game without changing the formula. They already did create a ship and create a track.
|
I could.
|
Such as?
|
You really want me to riff an F-Zero sequel? Might be a long read.
|
Bullet points?
|
Even so, man.
|
Ok, top five?
|
- Hard tracks.
- Online features; private/public Grand Prix, weekly challenges, progressive leaderboards, Rival lists. - WiiU gamepad highlights the track and everyone on it, pole positions, and other things to clear up the game screen (though we want stuff like vehicle health and track map on the TV). - Cockpit view. - Create a track and vehicle isn't make or break but I'd want it in. - Bitchin music. |
Just quick riffs, I don't know if I'd wanna do a full blast armchair producer thing here.

I'd like to see the Contra guy as an assist trophy. |
Team Meat is willing to make a deal with Nintendo where they would loan Meat Boy as a special third party character for the upcoming Smash game and in return they would develop a few games for the Wii U and 3DS.
Although they might have hinted they were being sarcastic and wouldn't hold up their end since none would be exclusive nor any guarantees they'd even show up on Nintendo systems. http://www.screwattack.com/news/team...r-smash-bros-4 |
Meat from the bloody platformer with the fetus for a bad guy? Nah.
Meat Boy is cool but those guys aren't quite there yet. Nintendo told EA to fuck off just a few weeks ago. Kinda sorta pretentious, imo, but sure it seems they were kidding anyway. |

Is this game supposed to be any good? Smash Bros is the last vestige of Nintendo fanboyism I have left. I'm not touching any next-gen Nintendo console if Smash Bros isn't going to kick ass. This thread has been incredibly dull and boring, which does not give me hope for the game itself.
