London Olympics 2012

Noticed there was no thread on this yet. Use this thread to discuss news and happenings pertaining to the Olympics

Autobahn 07-27-2012 08:30 PM

Watching the opening ceremony now. Kinda wish that really was the Queen herself parachuting down into the stadium.

Corporate CockSnogger 07-27-2012 08:36 PM

Literally the only thing I will be caring about/watching for...

El Capitano Gatisto 07-27-2012 08:41 PM

Suarez getting the yerba mate in as usual. He loves the stuff.

Autobahn 07-27-2012 08:50 PM

Paul Macartney can command a crowd like no other.

Have to admit - I like the idea behind the olympic cauldron, but it looks really underwhelming

Emperor Smeat 07-27-2012 09:48 PM

 Mr Bean being part of the performance.

Team Sheep 07-27-2012 09:55 PM

Are you getting the whole 4 hour ceremony in the US or have they edited a lot? Bet they took out the NHS stuff ;)

Emperor Smeat 07-27-2012 10:22 PM

I think its been edited a bit although only saw parts of it so its possible the NHS skit could have been shown.

The channel guide says the whole ceremony is 4 1/2 hours so it probably is the whole thing.

Keith 07-28-2012 01:23 AM

I wasn't really interested in the Olympics (except for the Men's USA Basketball Team), but after watching the opening ceremony, I now have "Olympic fever", as it's being called.

Tazz Dan 07-28-2012 04:11 AM

Cav is going to lose the Men's Road Race. That's all I have to contribute right now.

OssMan 07-28-2012 05:57 AM

Fuck michael phelps

OssMan 07-28-2012 05:57 AM

Time to get pumped for Women's Badminton

OssMan 07-28-2012 06:03 AM

Why does Hyde Park look brown

OssMan 07-28-2012 06:08 AM

Which event is DrA in

Razzamajazz 07-28-2012 08:32 AM

155 mile bike race. sounds fun

MoFo 07-28-2012 09:16 AM

When dafuq is the basketball and boxing

The Destroyer 07-28-2012 10:07 AM

Think there's been some basketball already, sure I saw it while flicking through the Olympic channels on Sky earlier.

El Capitano Gatisto 07-28-2012 10:22 AM

Boxing is on now and more tonight.

Keith 07-28-2012 11:06 AM

Men's basketball is tomorrow (Sunday) at 9:30am.

Evil Vito 07-28-2012 11:52 AM

Guy from Kazakhstan wins the 6 hour bike race. Pretty surprising.

Savio 07-28-2012 01:03 PM

USA is guaranteed a medal now edging out N Korea in archery

Evil Vito 07-28-2012 05:45 PM

Lochte.

CSL 07-28-2012 06:43 PM

lol that dude just going face first into the barriers in the Cavendish race

and Michael Phelps :(

MoFo 07-28-2012 06:48 PM

I fancy Joe Diaz Jr to upset Alvarez in the bantamweights (he looked real class today), Ogogo will prol go out to the Ukranian guy but Tom Stalker is our best chance of gold in teh boxing IMO

Good win for Anthony Joshua too though

Phelps looked like today wasn't his day for a medal and now looks a bit dumb for dropping the 200M in favor of the 400M race. On paper he's stronger in the 400M than the 200M although he barely trained for the event and his toughest competition was in the 400M in terms of American team mates.

owenbrown 07-28-2012 11:06 PM

NBC getting shit on for their tape delayed coverage

https://twitter.com/search/%23NBCfail

OssMan 07-28-2012 11:21 PM

Am I too excited for soccer? I feel like people treat Olympic soccer with less importance than international friendlies.

SammyG 07-29-2012 12:49 AM

Well, teams don't really send out their best squads for the Olympics.. But Olympic basketball is a huge deal.

Sepholio 07-29-2012 02:26 AM

Gotta love this

owenbrown 07-29-2012 03:27 AM

now according to NBC, Australia is in Europe now :nono:

http://uncrunched.com/2012/07/28/aus...ves-to-europe/

Sepholio 07-29-2012 05:26 AM

NBC is pathetic. Hope they lose coverage of the Olympics after this year.

OssMan 07-29-2012 07:05 AM

Someone confused Austria and Australia, big deal

OssMan 07-29-2012 07:06 AM

Australia is now in Europe! What's next? Guinea-Bissau is in Central America?

owenbrown 07-29-2012 07:09 AM

Well apparently it's fixed now.

SlickyTrickyDamon 07-29-2012 07:53 AM

That horn they use for the basketball games is annoying.

Corporate CockSnogger 07-29-2012 08:35 AM

Was going to watch some of the basketball then but apparently I can't actually watch anything with a Freeview box, and the BBC stream is terrible, lags, freezes and then jumps back 15 minutes when I refresh it. Good work BBC.

Savio 07-29-2012 10:17 AM

Bout to get our second gold medal

SlickyTrickyDamon 07-29-2012 10:20 AM

Doc Rivers FTW.

I found the BBC stream terrible during the World Cup. The ITV one was far better.

Keith 07-30-2012 05:05 AM

I wonder how many of the plays we see Team USA make are actually drawn up by Coach K.

Blitz 07-30-2012 06:08 AM

I guess this girl I know's sister is on Team Canada for gymnastics. I still can't find it in my heart to care about the olympics though.

Nicky Fives 07-30-2012 09:24 PM

Canada's women's beach volleyball team has practiced at my university.....

Savio 08-01-2012 08:07 PM

I want to see these corrupted boxing matches. especially "Magomed Abdulhamidov vs Satoshi Shimizu"

SammyG 08-02-2012 08:19 PM

That was the greatest shooting display I have ever seen

Emperor Smeat 08-02-2012 09:01 PM

Yeah Team USA scored 87 points from the 3-point shot alone and a lot better than the previous game where they sucked badly at 3 point shooting. They haven't played anyone good yet but the next game against Lithuania will be the first real test.

Meanwhile didn't take long but already a big cheating scandal has occurred with Badminton seeing 8 players with their coaches from 3 teams kicked out of the Olympics due to match fixing. Breaks the record for most games fixed and people kicked out ever in an Olympics.

screech 08-02-2012 11:41 PM

Was it announced how the badminton will proceed? I read they were taking about bringing back eliminated teams to finish the round.

Evil Vito 08-04-2012 12:07 PM

Serena absolutely pistol-whipped Sharapova in the gold medal game.

Emperor Smeat 08-04-2012 05:21 PM

Had a feeling Team USA taking way too many 3s the past 2 games would come back to haunt them and it almost did against Lithuania which was their first test. Too much hype after the first 3 games which they basically played nobody of quality.

Phelps manage to extend his medal tally to 22 after getting a gold in the 100m team relay.

Team Sheep 08-04-2012 09:08 PM

Great Britain been on a mad gold rush the past few days. Some great scenes fair play.

It's always a good idea to wait ten years until all the doping scandals have come out before congratulating the real winners of the events.

UK = GDR with shit weather and worse food.

CSL 08-05-2012 02:00 PM

lol awww bless you

Moonax 08-05-2012 06:00 PM

I'm not the one jumping on any bandwagon I can find just because the person who is good at the sport shares the same passport as me, or living my life vicariously through the achievements of someone whose success is down to having the biggest drugs budget.

If you think British (or any other country's) Olympians are clean then you are either i) naive or ii) very stupid.

CSL 08-05-2012 06:07 PM

lol when did I reference anything that you've just mentioned? My post is aimed strictly at you going out of your way to be a grumpy little tart, that's all. Have fun with that :)

That was a shame. Serena was obviously born a male. Was hoping Sharapova would win but Serena has got that gorilla strength!

Evil Vito 08-05-2012 06:43 PM

NBC's coverage has been horrendous for the most part. Shunting most of these track events, 100M included, is just a fat joke.

screech 08-05-2012 06:47 PM

Yeah. We got to see almost every qualifying race in swimming, though! :shifty:

screech 08-05-2012 06:49 PM

I love watching the swimming, but that was unnecessary given what wasn't/could have been shown.

So basically you missed the point of my original post, made a stupid and irrelevant comment and now you're playing the victim? Calling people names? What are you 14?

If your life is given meaning by how fast a steroid filled knuckle-dragger runs/cycles/jumps then good for you.

My original comment stands - UK sport is as dirty as any other country and that history teaches us that it normally takes around 10 years to work out who the real winners were. So you'll have to excuse me while I don't jump on the nearest bandwagon.

The only sporting difference between the GDR and the UK is that the GDR had better food and better weather.

CSL 08-05-2012 08:32 PM

nopeeee, you're misunderstanding me. I'm calling you names like a 14 year old because you're making really really dull posts

Crimson 08-05-2012 08:46 PM

Just started watching some olympics this weekend. Seems they always show swimming stuff or track. And some volleyball where the women's turkish team had some damn hotties alot better than the U.S

Crimson 08-05-2012 08:54 PM

Pot kettle?

And yet you keep on reading my posts and replying to them.

I understand you perfectly well. You read a post. Misunderstood it, posted something stupid, got your arse kicked, tried again, got your arse kicked again, and you keep on coming back.

Quick question - are you retarded in someway? Only I'm trying to work out what your excuse might be and the only thing I can think of is that you are actually properly retarded. If you are then just say then it'll save me some time.

Anyway, I'll leave you to bring yourself off over the sight of your junkie of the day. Have fun and remember to pick up the kleenex afterwards.

CSL 08-05-2012 09:14 PM

ahaha "got your arse kicked". Good one.

Krimzon7 08-05-2012 09:18 PM

this entire exchange just makes me LOL.

Crimson 08-05-2012 10:17 PM

Wow..Kobe already trying to jump on the turkish volleyball player, horny bastard

Big ♥ to Team GB. Always expect the Us and China to be up there of recent years, never realised how much Russia had dropped off (guess I'm still thinking back to CCCP days) and so happy we're above the Argies, French, Irish and Aussies.

Team Sheep 08-08-2012 10:42 PM

What the fuck has happened to Australian sport.

ClockShot 08-09-2012 06:49 PM

U.S. Women's Soccer got their revenge.

I'm a happy camper.

El Vaquero de Infierno 08-11-2012 06:31 PM

Daley finally won a medal. Poor guy, having all that pressure put upon him by the media/public.

Even though he got a bronze, he seemed genuinely happy to acquire it. Some of the atheletes that have won silver and bronze have seemed rather pissy about obtaining those medals.

PUBLICLY DISAGREES WITH USAIN BOLT'S "LEGENDARY" SELF-ASSESSMENT
http://eu.greekreporter.com/files/Ja...-Olympics.jpeg
BUCKS TRADITION BY REPLACING MENS 4X400 WITH MENS 4X100 AT THE END OF TRACK EVENTS BECAUSE BOLT DOESN'T RUN THE 400.

Nicky Fives 08-13-2012 10:16 PM

If anyone on Earth has the right to be a cocky asshole, it's Usain Bolt.....
