As promised last Friday, the first list of the new week is....

TOP CARTOONS OF THE 1990'S

Now this is a very important list for me. I was a 90's kid. Saturday mornings I was glued to Fox Kids and caught almost every animated show in the 90's. Never have been an Anime fan so don't expect to see any Pokemon or Dragonball Z on my list. This is my definitive list after over an hour of research.

10. Tiny Toon Adventures - Young or old, Tiny Toon Adventures was a top notch program that I never missed.

9. Ren & Stimpy - Had no idea an adult version of this existed until a few years ago. To this day I watch reruns on MTV or whatever channel I can find it on.

8. Rocko's Modern Life - During it's run it was my favorite show. So unique and who didn't want a dog like Spunky!?

7.Doug - The theme song. The blue faced friends. The names (Mustard/Mayonaisse), just an all around great show with great stories.

6.Beetlejuice - IF you didn't love this show you are dead to me.

5.The Critic - Didn't like this one a lot as a kid but appreciate it so much as an adult. I have almost worn out my box set.

4.Duckman - My teenage years were spent staying UP ALL NIGHT on USA trying to catch an episode of this fantastic show. My favorite quote: the 2 headed son to father while lost in woods "Dad I have too pee! Dad I'm thirsty!" "Well that takes care of both of your problems!"

3.SpiderMan - My son and I watch this show on Netflix every Saturday morning. I grew up in front of the TV on Saturday mornings and I love the fact that I can share that with my boy.

2.X-Men - See above.

1.The Simpsons - Nothing else could be #1. The 90's for the Simpsons was easily the best thing on TV. In the early 90's I would have to sneak to watch it. If you were a guest on that show you were instantly a rockstar.

Honorable Mentions
Where In The World Is Carmen SanDiego?
Tale Spin
Camp Candy - Did anyone else watch/love this???
Bobby's World
Batman
Darkwin Duck
Duck Tales
Futurama
Family Guy
South Park
King of the Hill
Captain Planet

Sixx 08-13-2012 12:37 PM

I remember watching that as a kid, and I remember that Indian kid had the shittiest superpower of them all.

Upon TMNT's first arrival in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Poland, Austria, Germany, and some other countries in Europe, the name was changed to "Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles" (or TMHT, for short)

I don't even remember it being Hero Turtles.

TOP CARTOONS OF THE 90s

10:
SPOILER: show
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/X1tQ6nnTIsA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Didn't last long, but really made an impression on me.

9:
SPOILER: show
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/5Yh4XsqkXQQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I loved The Mask movie as a kid, so it was natural that I would love the cartoon. When they did the crossover with Ace Ventura, it was one of the biggest things ever.

8:
SPOILER: show
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/cUW0lj5CfuQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Loved the tone and humor, and use quotes from it to this very day.

7:
SPOILER: show
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/375ENQbru8s" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Loved Darkwing, and pretty much every character.

6:
SPOILER: show
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/UfQsBTgoVuA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

As a kid, I was so excited to get up and watch this show. Was amazed by its continuous storyarchs and multi-part episodes. Never wanted to miss an episode. Also marked out for any guest stars.

5:
SPOILER: show
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/wZAhqEiq4cA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

See: Above explanation for Spider-Man, only to a greater degree. Hence it placing higher on the list.

4:
SPOILER: show
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ygrEVnrg3Ic" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Gargoyles was so complex that I don't think I fully appreciated it as a kid. Rewatching it in recent times, it amazes me how good it was. So it gets bumped up past X-Men and Spider-Man.

3:
SPOILER: show
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/HsQ5EBskkFg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Batman: TAS started something great that I would follow well into the 2000s. I was always so pumped to watch this show, and would mark out when I could tell that one of my favorite villains was going to be on the show from the opening title. Pretty much everything in this show was awesome.

2:
SPOILER: show
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/KA0TS9l_nJE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

This was like the perfect show. Can't even put into words everything that made it great. Every episode would have something different. They weren't restricted to one genre/time period/whatever. All while being funny and entertaining.

1:
SPOILER: show
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/D6m9g_pthHQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I don't think there can be any doubt about this one. It served me faithfully throughout the entire 90s.[/spoiler]

Schlomey 08-13-2012 03:21 PM

Most of my choices are directly related to saturation. My son is 4 which means most of the films on my list I have seen literally 5 to 50 times. The older ones (non Pixar films) haven't been watched in soooo long.....

Ermaximus 08-21-2012 11:55 AM

Disney needs to get off their asses and release The Great Mouse Detective in Blu-Ray. I'm tired of waiting. I mean, if The Rescuers and The Rescuers Down Under can both come out on Blu-Ray together, then why can't The Great Mouse Detective?

Schlomey 08-21-2012 12:01 PM

They are too busy re-releasing movies in 3-D and making bad Car sequels. Sorry Maxi Pad.

Ermaximus 08-21-2012 12:12 PM

Well then fuck them.

I know right? Disney can put a rush on their shitty live action movies, but can't get a few classics redone faster? Logic!
