Do you care about Sin Cara?
Like, at all?
I don't. He's just not doing it for me. Have I made this thread before? Discuss. |
Not really, I mean he has no angle and can't cut a promo in English so that doesn't help, maybe if he was doing something I might care but as it stands I wouldn't even notice if he disappeared again.
He is one of the several dozen WWE superstars that I currently do not care about.
I can stomach his current feud with Cody Rhodes. I'm down for a Rhodes push any day.
The Rhodes feud is fun so far, but it's all because of Rhodes.
I am a fan. Sin Cara is generally one of my favorite parts of Raw. A pox on the head of all who disagree.
I have said it before and I will say it again. Sin Cara will never get over with a full face mask. Unfortunately, that is his whole "thing".
Don't listen to DaveBrawl, he's an Adam West fan.
The fact that he doesn't speak English makes it hard to connect with him. I wish Hunico kept the mantel of Sin Cara
he screams "meh" to me.....
I could give a rat's ass about him. He gets virtually zero response from the crowds, RAW crowd was totally MILD for him last night.

Once he stopped jumping from the ground over the 3 ropes, it was over. Hell who knows if that's the same Sin Cara as a year ago!
I'm a bit like Guru Dave in which I really enjoyed Sin Cara Negro. That's not changed as I still think Hunico is fantastic.
Anyway, as for Sin Cara, he does nothing for me. I don't love or hate the guy. When he comes out, I think "Oh, right, a Sin Cara match". It's been said already in this thread by some people but with a full face mask and lacking English, he isn't going anywhere. :-\ I've only ever heard him talk once, and that was when I was watching a Spanish version of SmackDown and he was talking about the WWE's upcoming tour of Mexico. The only problem I have with the Sin Cara character is the lighting during his matches. It's absolutely pointless, now that he wears red & white. The lights were blue and gold to reflect his attire at the time, but now it just looks stupid and it's even more annoying than before. You can't really see much and the crowd always seems so dead. Probably because it's dark, along with that they can't see much. If I had to think of some improvements, I'd say get rid of the lights, learn at least some english and cut a promo. The fans need to know how he feels about certain things. Like his matches, Cody Rhodes, goals he hopes to achieve in the WWE. We can't really guess or assume that he's feeling a certain way. Pulling a mask while wagging a finger at someone really doesn't say a lot. He could have been pissed off when he did that, or cocky, or unamused. How can people care about someone if they never talk and never show they're face? |
I just got to thinking...was it because it was a tag match he was in that the weird lighting didn't happen as per usual in a Sin Cara match?
I haven't paid any attention to any of his singles matches lately because I just don't care for the guy, so I can't tell if they've gotten rid of that stupid lighting or not. |
It was there with Heath Slater the other night.
He's alright and would be great if they had some kind of cruiserweight division to just go out and perform, but without that he can pretty much never have much direction because of what people have already mentioned in here about his lack of promos and facial expressions.
He's no La Parka, that's for sure. ;)
Did La Parka ever have a storyline? Other than when they had someone dubbing a promo over him I can't remember much.

As an in ring competitor yes I think he is one of the best if only he could learn some english and cut a promo at least once and awhile it would be nice.
Really can't stand the guy, to be honest. With his lack of English, and the full facial mask, it's really impossible to connect to the guy. With someone like Rey Mysterio, you can see his eyes and mouth, so even if he wasn't speaking you can feel the emotion he emulates when he's in pain. With Sin Cara, you can't.
In fact, even if someone is cutting a promo on Sin Cara, all he does is point. With Rey, you would be able to see the anger, shock or sadness in his face, with Sin Cara, he just points at them. And finally, for a guy who should have an exciting style to watch, and with the label "Mexico's greatest high-flyer", all he actually does are variations of Arm-Drags and Hurricanranas. On top of that, there's the annoying mood lights, the constant botching and until recently, the lack of any legit angle. There really is nothing for me to care about Sin Cara right now. |
Well since internally I find his feud with Cody a demotion for Cody that probably means I don't care too much for Cara. It won't take much for me to care but some effort is going to have to be presented.
I would like to, but I just don't.
50-50.
He's been a lot better in matches that don't have that stupid dark mood lighting while he does need more time to fit into the WWE style instead of rushing things which lead to a bunch of botches. In terms of direction, he's been doing mostly random matches than anything to help develop his character besides the short Sin Cara Black feud and the current Cody feud. |
I like him more now since he's in a feud with Rhodes.

Is there some Sin Cara craze going on that I don't know about?

The main one is just people drawing Sin Cara over "60's Spiderman", which is already a "meme". |
I don't mind him. He needs a good feud though. With no cruiserweight division around and no title to fight for within it, he's kinda gotta be in feuds that don't just revolve around athletics and that means having good heel antagonists.
What I'd love to see is Cody injure his face again and this time come back with a white mask and do a Phantom of the Opera type thing. It would actually give Cody some character depth as he feuds with Sin Cara in a creepy Phantom-like mask over the fact that Sin Cara chooses to wear a mask at will while Cody has been disfigured and forced to hide his face. The Cody mask thing had a lot of legs left. It was good but there were so many more places they could go with it. I feel like this would be a good way to make a bland, generic Cody Rhodes and a currently directionless Sin Cara both interesting. |
Kind of over Mexican wrestlers wearing masks and being high flyers, probably why I'm really digging Del Rio, he breaks the stereotype, and I'd rather watch more technical wrestling than a hurricanrana-thon.

I like Sin Cara, I think he's a very good wrestler. However, the way he's currently portrayed, especially the dimming of the lights most of the time he wrestles, is leading him nowhere.
I still say having him feud with Mysterio may be the way to go. Or have him turn heel and win the Tag Team Titles with Alberto Del Rio. |
They're probably gonna go Mysterio vs Sin Cara at WrestleMania this year assuming they can actually stay healthy and drug free.
Sin Cara's "heat ceiling" will remain low so long as he doesn't give promos. He could do heel promos in Spanish to exploit the "evil foreigner never speaks English" stereotype, but for trying to be a face, it's pretty tough to pull off without speaking the lingua franca of the U.S. Even Spider-Man speaks in his movies and TV shows!

Kind of unfair to judge the character when he's not really been given any programs to work with. I'll wait to see how this feud with Rhodes goes.
Personally, I think you need guys like him to serve no other real purpose than to put on a really good match at ppv's. He and Hunico tore it down, the last ppv they fought, and I'll bet the match with Rhodes will be great as well. I've seen his work in mexico, and I know what he's capable of. They need to let him wrestle and sacrifice a few tout segments that no one is going to miss. |
Hes fine, its just that he probably wont be anything more than a glorified midcarder given the limitations highlighted in this thread.

I think that if WWE had brought him in, and had let him just do his thing, just go out and wrestle and show what he can do, it would've been better for him. Instead, they bring him in, give him a big entrance, give him pyro, dim the light for his matches. The expectations and the pressure were too great from the beginning. |
Not to mention he went from lucha libre style right to debuting on raw. Never had the benefit of learning the difference of style in fcw.
That was their biggest mistake, imo. |
Yeah, even Alberto Del Rio had some time down in FCW.

Out of all of the Sin Cara matches that I've seen thus far (and yes, I've only seen his WWE work, so I've got nothing to say about Mistico), the only match that stands out to me is a match he had with Daniel Bryan (when Bryan was still a blundering idiot winning pretty much nothing) and the Sin Cara Negro feud (where he wasn't even the best part). I WANT to like Sin Cara...but there's been nothing to appreciate him for yet.

Sin cara doesn't really have that luxury. And even if he managed to work the WWE style (which I believe he can do), how much further can he really go? I just think the character at the moment has severe limitations. |
I dont get why hasn't learned English yet, WTF? That's what he should have been doing during his drug suspension. But no, just another immigrant too lazy the learn the language of the country he's in. At least Of the River speaks English. He should piss off back to Mexico.

Also, if the WWE network gets up and running this century, he can be in that cruiserweight show. |
anyone notice they had to change his entrance when he came back from his injury so he wouldn't botch it anymore?.....LOL.....bottom line WWE has no cruiserweight division or guys that can really carry lucha libre style match except for Evan Bourne, Kofi Kingston, Rey Rey, and Hunico. Spot monkey is a spot monkey and that has no longevity in WWE. Time to head back to mexico in my opinion where you can work your craft where everyone works a similar style mostly.
being a spot monkey and using the lucha libre style are not the same thing
I think we should let Triple H weigh in with his superior ability to evaluate WWE talent:

Hes a shit Mexi-Sabu

I think that people are way too hard on Sin Cara. He was called up too early and too much pressure was put on him, but that's because the dude was a legitimate major attraction down in Mexico. Give him the time to develop in the WWE and he will be a major star there in time, too.
He's already gotten so much more comfortable. Working with Rey Mysterio is perhaps the smartest thing the WWE has done with Sin Cara since debuting him yet. Also, the dude does not need to promo -- his mystique is the attraction. That being said, that will mean a slow rise where great performances and stories told over months will establish a secure bond with audiences. I'm hoping that Cody Rhodes wins back the IC Title very shortly, and we get a Title vs. Mask match between the two at Hell in a Cell, or something, where Sin Cara beats Rhodes and gets a few months with the Intercontinental Title. They could probably stretch out a Sin Cara IC Title reign until a match with Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania at this point. And since Sin Cara would probably go over Rey, he could hold the title until Extreme Rules, at the very least. I'm not really keen on Sin Cara being given the pressures of a champion just yet, but I think Sin Cara would surprise a lot of people as a mid-card champion. It at least gives the guy something to do. |
Nope.
I don't care about Rey Mysterio either. He's been hogging airtime with the same boring feuds for years now. But they sell merchandise so neither is going anywhere in the near future. |

Sin Cara should not cut promos.
Vignettes should be used to explain the motivations of the Sin Cara character.
No they shouldn't.
That's lazy. |
It's the exact opposite of lazy. It calls for creative and well-presented innovation, really.

Sin Cara does a great job of emoting through the mask.

They should give Sin Cara the gimmick of a Giant Chicken. Like under his mask, he is just a Giant Chicken.
Heels like Cody would be all "He's a chicken, I tell you! A GIANT CHICKEN!!" and try to unmask him to prove it. They won't succeed, and will never be believed. |

Cody Rhodes' line towards Sin Cara on SmackDown was great. These four men are working so well together. I hope that Cody wins the IC Title at Night of Champions after hitting Rey Mysterio with the belt and stealing the fall, leading to Rhodes vs. Sin Cara at Hell in a Cell, while The Miz and Rey Mysterio continue their rivalry away from the title.
No. I find him to be a more boring, yet less annoying version of Rey Mysterio.
I voted 'meh', because that literally is my reaction. I'm just not bothered by that he's on my TV. I know i probably should be, but i'm just not. Maybe i will in the future but just not right now.
I voted meh because option 2 was unclear to me.

Bocephus Black'd bitchslap that bouncing bastard.
He was fucking terrible at NOC
Agreed he was mighty worthless which is a shame. The opener is usually exciting and he stunk.
Hunico should be pushed, by the way.
Does he botch this badly in the games?
If the craziness of Indy female wrestlers mocking Sin Cara and the apparent fleeing by Sin Cara after matches continues, then Mr. Former Mistico may be "Sin Sanity!" The fact that Sin Cara's mask looks like a Power Rangers Zeo helmet just makes him riper for the ribbing!
I'd say it's the ribbing that's driving the indy girls crazy.
Or at least that's what Trojan's marketing department will say.
He sucks. They should have trained him. He ruined a Survivor Series match last year. He sucks. That is all.
