GODZILLA (2014)
Per deadline.com GODZILLA will be released May 16, 2014.
A load of sequels and re-makes of pre-existing properties. What a summer of creativity.
I'm just gonna wait for Mr. Nowhere Man's post about this...
WB needs to follow in the footsteps of G.M. Reinfeldt
Aaaaaaand here I am.
They actually announced this back at Comic Con, with a surprise teaser trailer at the end of the Pacific Rim panel, and had a brief Q&A with the director Gareth Edwards. Unfortunately I can't find the teaser anywhere, but here's the Q&A: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ly9UeWvx1W8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> As well as a little concept art to show us what the new re-designed Godzilla looks like: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...dzilla2012.jpg And, as far as I can tell, the only decent leaked screenshot from the teaser: http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b7...n716/newgs.jpg So anyway, about the movie itself. Gareth Edwards did a 'serious' monster movie in 2010 called Monsters. It's a pretty good flick, focusing more on the human drama and the social-political climate that would rise from something as insane as a giant monster invasion (not to mention it was a pretty heavy-handed metaphor for America's fearful or willingly ignorant attitude towards the drug war in Mexico). It's not something that'll blow you away, but it's good for what it is. Now that he's taking the reins over the King of the Monsters himself, though......I'm cautiously optimistic. I mean, we've got a guy who clearly wants to make really good monster movies, and now he's being backed by a studio with a much bigger budget than he had for Monsters, which should allow him to do a lot more. From what I've gathered, they're playing it closer to the original 1954 movie, where Godzilla is clearly the villain, an engine of nihilistic destruction and hate rather than the goofy children's hero he later became. I'm down with that, especially because it will put a much more definite distinction between this movie and Pacific Rim, which sounds like it's going to be much more about the campy monster-robot fights. If they're ever going to be able to make the monster movie function as a legitimate form of horror movie again, then hopefully this is the movie to do it. |
They made Godzilla sexy :)

How often is there a Comic-Con? Feels like there's one every week.
The only one that matter is the one in San Diego. Annually.
Yeah, there's only one actual Comic-Con, and it's once a year in San Diego. There are a lot of other big cons out there (Wonder Con, Dragon*Con, NYCC, Wizard World, Gen-Con, et cetera), but the one true Comic-Con is the only one that movie studios really go for broke on.
The folks at this year's Comic-Con who went to the "Godzilla Encounter" attraction apparently were the first people to get a look at the new Godzilla. And it got leaked, so here's some footage from it:
http://movies.cosmicbooknews.com/con...t-look-monster Gotta say, I'm loving it. Even if the movie sucks, at the very least, Godzilla looks and sounds like Godzilla this time. |
Where's the footage? Edit: Taken down by studio.
Looks like it got taken down from that site. Nothing much to see, anyways. Just a Big Lizard.
I am really excited about this as I am a massive fan of the original. Hopefully they can get Matthew Roderick and Jeff Goldblum back on board.

As the Green Lantern? It is a WB movie afterall.
Nah. As Godzilla.
Ryan Reynolds is the Nolan North of live-action film. |
Aww I want to see Godzilla fight the Green Lantern.
Teaser Trailer before it gets taken down:

I'd probably be more excited by this if Pacific Rim hadn't come out earlier this year.

Here's another link to the teaser, while it lasts.
Also, I just came. |
Saw it elsewhere. :y:
Nice. Epic even in a post Pacific Rim world.

God I hope they got it right this time.....
With what that teaser just revealed....
I full expect Godzilla to tear up another city while fighting another monster. |
Looks right to me.
Chills. Well, that teaser clearly shows another big all monster on the ground, and 'Zilla still standing.
Think I just soiled myself.

So, I was just thinking....that dead caterpillar thing in the teaser.....possibly a Mothra larva? I know they've said there will be other monsters in this, but they haven't said if Godzilla's going to fight some more of Toho's franchise monsters or if they'll be original ones.
Kinda thinking it'll be original. Just cause we haven't had any new monsters in ages.
Pretty damn excited for this. Finally got round to buying Godzilla Vs Biolante (to add to the collection), so my excitement for the movie has been re-ignited.
SPLOOOOOOOOOGE
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/QjKO10hKtYw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Seriously Fuck me running that looks gooooooooood
That trailer makes the last American version looks like modern sin. And it certainly looks different enough from Pacific Rim (go see it if you didn't, btw) to avoid too much overlap or repeated themes.
That HALO drop was intense and terrifying. |
Gareth Edwards is 100% the right guy for this.
We need to stamp out all traces of the 1998 version to pave the way for the arrival of the true American Godzilla
Holy crap, this movie looks incredible.
Is Matthew Brodrick innit?
I need a cigarette, a change of pants and some time to cry...
The King has returned
Trailer was good, liked the use of the 2001 theme. Really hope this isn't like Man of Steel where you get a cool atmospheric trailer, but end up with a shitty dumb movie.
Well, one thing this has over Man of Steel is that Godzilla is supposed to be mindless destruction porn.
OH SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII--
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/vIu85WQTPRc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Godzilla is the danger
I would kill to have Godzilla give a monologue about half measures at some point
That trailer is the bomb!
Scared shitless.
I hope this epic, because, the last 2 trailers have got me very excited.
Looks pretty sweet. Like how the trailer still doesn't show much of Godzilla.... makes me look forward to seeing him tear s*** up.
I'm seeing glimpses of another monster in there. One that has some pterodactyl wings....
....if we get Godzilla versus Rodan in this, I will be so goddamn happy. |
Gonna be some centipede like thing.
I CAN'T WAIT! |
They should only have Godzilla in this movie. Keep all other monsters out.
Probably a mini-boss thing for the humans anyway.
I did think that I maybe saw some... eggs... or something? Hope they also don't go the "Godzilla eggs" angle.
Just have Godzilla and that's it. |
I think Legendary Pictures just might have done it
Being that Godzilla had a kid I wouldn't care if he had eggs so long as it works with the narrative.
Looking at the trailer again... seems like glowing orbs that are somehow growing around a missile or something....
Radiation babies.
Guys guys guys...we might be heading to Monster Island. Cause I think Rodan's the one plucking jets from the skies.
http://i58.tinypic.com/2qn2ud1.png
http://i60.tinypic.com/2rxunwm.png That's Rodan without question. |
Quote:
omfg i hope thats Rodan
What part of Rodan is that in the bottom picture? I can see it in the first, but not the second one.
I figure the wings
sweet... cloverfield with godzilla
How awesome would it be if it starts with Cloberfield surviving in NYC then ramapaging the US until it faces Gozilla.
Cloverfield x Godzilla x Pacific Rim
Then it just...dies. Seriously there's a reason why Godzilla is called the King of All Monsters.
Yeah, if Godzilla's going to fight other monsters, they need to focus on the ones already in his own franchise before even thinking about doing crossovers. There's already plenty to work with there: Rodan, Mothra, Gigan, Anguirus, maybe build up to some apocalyptic showdown with King Ghidorah in the final movie.
On the other hand, how sweet would it be if Pacific Rim's Jaeger program eventually gave birth to Mecha-Godzilla? |
On crossovers; looking back Godzilla vs King Kong was all kinds of ridiculous - even in terms of giant monster movies.
And lets just throw Power Rangers in there. Because you know. |
Well this movie is going to have some sort of centipede monster but I'm kinda excited if we also have Rodan in it.
As long as he's not brutally murdered just to be brutally murdered. |
I would hesitate to call it murder if he smashed a few buildings just moving around.
Well looks like Bandai did some damage control, but there was a leak of the monster from the trailer...and while the first image above doesnt resemble it, the second image is clearly the appendage of the Muto monster.
So ill still hold out hope that Rodan is that flying monster. Edit: Found one, though not a close up. Edit edit: close up. http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps192df916.jpg |
Ok ya I had no idea they were going with a new monster but that second screenie I posted definitely looks like the Muto monster now.
You guys just got Muto'd
I imagine Muto can fly as well then, and it is the one in my first screenshot too.
"let them fight"
What do you guys think....still Rodan? <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/G1pX97_0rxU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
I am hyped for some monster battles.
Damn. Was hoping for only Godzilla. Oh well. Still looks good.
It's a not Rodan.
I'm glad there is another Monster in it. |
Quite looking forward to this now. Please don't suck.
I liked it better when we were given the impression Godzilla was one who they were hiding. This gives away the surprise that he's not. Oh well. Still looks fucking awesome.
It looks more like Battra than Mothra :?:
Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and Walter White. Sounds cool enough.
is puff daddy doing the soundtrack
Calling at least 2 monsters other than Godzilla in this.

Went to see Captain America today and there was a nice long trailer for Godzilla. No mention in there of Muto though.
Glorious.
You can hate 1/3rd of the movie and still be turned by the third act. King of monsters indeed. |
Same here. Although I hated the backstory of Godzilla saying that they wanted to nuke him instead of the usual origin of how he came to be.. Stupid military. Still, the humans took a huuuge backseat in the final moments, they felt like being reduced to caricature actors with little development.
Fucking NY Daily News giving it a 2/5 to be "cool": http://www.nydailynews.com/entertain...icle-1.1792072
I will catch this over the weekend so won't be coming in here a whole lot. |
Just seen it; found it rather "blah." But, I don't particularly care for Godzilla anyways, so maybe those not indifferent to the character might enjoy it more.
I loved it. The monster battle was great.
Two things
1) it was tough to get over the fact that Aaron- Taylor Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen were playing a married couple when they are brother and sister in an upcoming movie. It was tough. 2) I wanted more Heisenberg. |
