WWE Bringing back old names? Lets make some guesses!

From PWInsider:

WHY YOU MAY START SEEING SOME OLD FACES POPPING UP IN WWE
by Mike Johnson @ 10:58 AM on 12/8/2012

Don't be shocked to see some former WWE mid-card names returning to the company in the near future. In recent weeks, there has been a push from several top talents for the company to bring back some former talents that were released in the past but were solid hands.

The word is that WWE management has taken the suggestion to heart as the company has never been so thin on talent across the board. We are told they are looking at bringing back some names that can populate the mid-card to work with younger names and help bring them along, as well as provide some solid work on the show.

I am told there is a short list of potential names they are interested in, but the company has not yet begun contacting talents. That process could begin any time.

3 total guesses

Rhyno
Daivari
John Morrison

Bad News Gertner 12-08-2012 01:16 PM

PLEASE let it be Mike Knox.

Corporate CockSnogger 12-08-2012 01:45 PM

Would love DDP to come back. I guess he'll be somebody they'd at least ask considering they've used him here and there in the past year.

Unless they see him as being too old to contribute.

Maybe they're just looking at going for regular mid card talent that probably doesn't have the chance to get incredibly over, but can do a solid job for them in the middle of the pack and help get some of their other guys over.

Lock Jaw 12-08-2012 01:50 PM

Steve Blackman.

whiteyford 12-08-2012 01:52 PM

Rhino was the first name that came to mind, could still work as a US/IC title holder pretty easily and act as a gateway opponent to the big belts.

Vastardikai 12-08-2012 02:08 PM

Rhyno
Luke Gallows
Colt Cabana

I know 2 of them are in TNA, but yeah...

DLVH84 12-08-2012 02:11 PM

That I could see. Scorp would need to lose some weight, but he could be a good enhancement talent for some of the young high-flyers. Plus, he can bump for the big guys.

Probably the most likely post in the thread. As much as most people would like it, I doubt they're going to bring back many guys from earlier than say 2004 or 2005.

is Masters part of TNA? Morrison is the only one of the 3 I could see conceivably coming back for this show.

whiteyford 12-08-2012 03:14 PM

Carlito and Morrison both have standing offers to return supposedly, can't see Carlito coming back though with all the shit talking he does which is a shame. Could see Taka or Tajiri coming back for a short run, both guys can still go but realistically can't see them doing it.

He's got $100 mil to spend on Linda and her failed senate runs. He could afford some resurrection research. I would chip in $50 I'd it meant we bring back the Big Bossman or Mr. Perfect.

Gangrel as an evil manager would be sweet. He's in WWE 13 which gave me hope he returns with that sweet entrance.

I always think of this when it comes to big viss:

Maluco 12-08-2012 06:40 PM

Maybe someone mentioned him and I didn't see it...

...but would be VERY surprised if one of those names was not MVP. I know he is involved in Japan and the like, but there is no way he would say no to a nice run in WWE at this stage of his career. I think, in the current climate, he could really get over too....would be more than useful on Smackdown for example...

Maluco 12-08-2012 06:46 PM

Also, WGTT...Benjamin and Haas? Maybe fit into Triple H's plans to build the tag division....would definately give it a solid team.

I actually thought about this the other day. Funaki coming out for a match randomly on SmackDown and winning by roll-up would be a pretty nice moment.

Mr. Nerfect 12-08-2012 10:17 PM

John Morrison apparently left on fairly good terms. After taking some time off, he might feel re-energized and ready to give it another go. He'd be a fantastic addition to the mid-card. Also, it seems like something is going on that is helping guys who were hit-or-miss on the mic cut consistently good promos (I'm just going to be a smark and credit Paul Heyman for this). Kofi Kingston and Dolph Ziggler, for instance, are doing really good work on the microphone lately. If someone has helped them become good promos, perhaps they can do the same for Morrison?

MVP would likely be given another shot if he wanted it. The question is if he does. He got to cross working in Japan off his career goals, so now he might be more willing to settle down and become a consistent mid-carder in the WWE. His health and age might make it unlikely he will be a full-time main eventer, but I guess you never know.

Carlito returning seems like one of those things that could really go either way. He talks a lot of shit, but there is no doubt that the dude is talented. Even right before he left the WWE he was still getting opportunities to get re-pushed. Depending on where he is mentally and physically, a full-time return could be quite welcome.

Chris Masters is apparently in bed with TNA, but I doubt he's on bad terms with the WWE. If there is no commitment between Masters and TNA, then I could see him returning to the WWE. He was getting really good before he left the WWE, and while he has two strikes against his name, I doubt they're going to be making the guy the centre of the company.

Scotty 2 Hotty worked a match on NXT against Heath Slater a few months back. While he must be getting up there in age, Scotty is a guy that could really help the guys he works with, and he could settle into a producer role quite quickly. I'm not sure what shape he is in, but if Grand Master Sexay were healthy, I'm sure he would be allowed to return to the WWE, as well. Throw in Rikishi for a Too Cool reunion. 3MB vs. Too Cool would feel like an Attitude era six-man tag.

Steve Blackman for random appearances would be cool. In today's age, Blackman could very easily be presented as the Chuck Norris of WWE -- showing up only when asses need to be severely kicked.

The New Age Outlaws would not be out of the question. I would actually quite like to see a program between them and The Prime Time Players. Another tag team I would not mind seeing returning is The Basham Brothers. Doug is 41, but he is still wrestling and was always a solid hand that could help polish guys' abilities. Danny Basham is only 35 years old, has competed all over the world, and was another solid hand when he was working in WWE. I'm sure JBL could put these guys over in a second from commentary by mentioning they were so tough he recruited them for his Cabinet.

I've got no clue what the fuck Johnny Jeter is doing these days, and nor does Wikipedia, but I would absolutely love to see him return. His work in OVW under Paul Heyman was brilliant heel stuff, and I have no doubt that he could be a solid mid-card addition to the WWE roster. The guy is only 30 years old.

If Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas were open to returning, and they could somehow get out of their ROH contracts, I would welcome them back as a tag team. In today's day and age, a Shelton Benjamin singles push could even work out, although I think he'll have a safer legacy in tag team competition.

They have spoken out against the company, and I don't think it is likely, but Paul London & Brian Kendrick returning as a tag team would make me very, very happy. If the WWE could get DH Smith to team with Tyson Kidd against Shawn Michaels' boys -- I would be a very, very happy camper.

Rhyno's name seems to be popping up a lot, and I've always been a bit of a fan of his. I would get behind a return of his, if it were to go down. The same goes for Tajiri, although he seems to be happy working in Japan. Didn't he and Finlay have, like, the best match ever recently or something (obvious hyperbole)? Would love to see the WWE rekindle that on SmackDown one week.

Jimmy Yang and Shannon Moore are only 31 and 33, respectively. I loved Jimmy Yang, but didn't really care too much for Shannon. They did make a solid, if thrown together, tag team on ECW, though. Bringing them back with a gimmick that makes sense could be a good addition to the main roster.

Oh yeah, there's that Colt Cabana guy, too. I'm sure Punk would not mind having Cabana by his side on the main roster. If Cliff Compton has not signed with TNA, bringing him back to help out Punk could be good, too.

Mr. Nerfect 12-08-2012 10:19 PM

Oh, and for fuck's sake, bring back Kharma to feud with AJ Lee. There is a female feud that could actually draw money. Have AJ Lee win the Divas Championship from Eve Torres at the Royal Rumble, and then have Vickie Guerrero make it her mission to make AJ's life a living hell. Best way to do that? Mr. Nerfect 12-08-2012 10:29 PM

I would love a Val Venis return. The man made everyone he got in the ring with look fantastic. He was a great seller, a solid hand in the ring, and it's not like he was shy on the mic or anything. Eventually, being used almost exclusively to put talent over wasted his potential, because it would mean almost nothing to beat the guy.

In a PG WWE, Val Venis would not really be able to return with the gimmick that got him over in the first place. Would a repackaged Sean Morley work in 2012? If he were brought in as part of a pissed-off veterans movement (a feud/alliance with The Shield?), it might work. A team with Christian could have some use, given that I can't see where Christian really fits into major programming at the moment. It just doesn't seem like Morley fits anywhere, if you catch my drift? Also, the dude got a gig as a road agent and fucked it up by the sound of it.

Would love to see him come back, and I would be a marky marky mark mark for it, but yeah.

I'm still not ruling it out as a possibility. Kharma's had a pretty rough year and a bit, and probably needs time to get herself mentally and physically back to where she wants to be. Triple H signed her, so he obviously sees her worth, and even if it was true that the WWE couldn't come up with long-term creative plans for her -- there's no doubt that time-to-time she would be a welcome addition.

Mr. Nerfect 12-08-2012 10:32 PM

You could seriously make Kharma one of the biggest babyfaces in the WWE if an upset Vickie Guerrero berated her after failing to destroy AJ and Kharma just gave her the Implant Buster. If you didn't want to have her featured all the time, in fear of losing the mystique or having her do damage to the credibility of the rest of the females working, that would also be a pretty neat way to right her off storyline-wise.

Given her size and ability, I also think she could be a female that could believably challenge for the World Title. Maybe the WWE won't want to do a male vs. female match, and that sort of thing, but Kharma could at least cut promos about it, get a buzz about herself, and create some noise. Ziggler vs. Kharma for the World Title would make a very interesting second-tier main event (with back-story, too, given that Kharma and Ziggler interacted in the 2012 Royal Rumble).

What about Val Venis returning as jeans aficionado. Sean "All about jeans" Morley. He can wrestle in jeans with a jean jacket and make fun of his opponents for wearing pants. Then The Great Khali walks down to the ring and says,

"Jabbahdfyhy!" and chops Sean "All about jeans" Morley. It turns out Khali is mad...
because they don't make jeans his size!

Superstars feud of the decade!

Maybe he'd go the Rick Rude route, cutting his music, badmouth the crowd, hitting the music, use the routine with his towel.

Mr. Nerfect 12-08-2012 10:41 PM

I would probably enjoy that, Pintint. A lot. But would be pissed off when Sean "All About Jeans" Morley got squashed by Khali.

Although, Epico & Primo have been feuding with Great Khali lately...

What if Epico & Primo helped Sean "All About Jeans" Morley defeat Khali. Why? Morley has won their loyalty by selling them jeans at low, low prices. Rosa Mendes then becomes Sean "All About Jeans" Morley's new jeans model, and every week we get to see Rosa in tight ass-hugging jeans. This, however, leads to Sean "All About Jeans" Morley lapsing back into his old porn star ways, and making a movie with Rosa Mendes instead of filming the jeans commercial he promised she'd be in. Epico & Primo are all pissed off about Sean "All About Jeans" Morley doing that to their girl, and Sean "All About Jeans" Morley is all "Hey, that's why I'm Sean "All About Getting Into Those Jeans" Morley!"

Mr. Nerfect 12-08-2012 10:44 PM

I would not mind Sean Morley returning and revealing that he spent his last few years training to be a magician. "Magic Morley" dresses as your classical magician, with the top hat, the wand and such. Bring up Emma from NXT as his assistant, and everyone speculates that something is going on behind the scenes, but Magic Morley denies that anything of the sort is happening.

As a little added bit of wrestling continuity -- Sean Morley's friend and former tag team partner Lance Storm trained Emma for in-ring competition.

Mr. Nerfect 12-08-2012 10:49 PM

You could bring Sean Morley back as an old bitter "I could have been something if I were serious" heel coach to some struggling WWE Superstars. He would only get in the ring if need be, but otherwise he would just be at ringside slapping the mat for his boys. If they lost a match he would slap them in the face and call them disgraces. That sort of thing.

The Prime Time Players would make great clients for Coach Morley. Tyson Kidd would make a great client for a few weeks, before he has enough of Morley and kicks him after being berated one day. Kidd can then beat Morley on SmackDown one week and ride that going forward.

The Condor 12-08-2012 10:49 PM

Magic Morley as a MAgic Mike ripoff.

Mr. Nerfect 12-08-2012 10:51 PM

Coach Morley could launch bitter assaults at Kofi Kingston over Twitter and Tout -- "I used to smile all the time and look at me now! You're a joke, Kofi!" leading to Kofi eventually coming to blows with Morley on the air. This leads to an Intercontinental Title match between the two with JBL on commentary calling Morley a genius for antagonizing Kofi into defending the title. "One last money shot at glory, Val! Take it!"

That could ultimately be the pay-off for the storyline. We hear so much about Sean Morley's "magic shows" and then we finally get to see one and it becomes obvious that Morley is a stripper.

In the archives along with your likeability.

Smart money's on Morrison and maybe Masters. Carlito is probably 50/50 at best, and I believe I heard somewhere that Goldust was pretty much ready to retire though I could be wrong. Would love to see MVP back though, always loved the guy. Also with Anderson doing almost nothing in TNA it makes me wonder what's up with his contract. Probably not gonna happen, but I'd mark the fuck out for a Mr. Kennedy return.

Yeah, I don't care what you other guys think, I'd also mark out for a Mr. Kennedy return. MVP, Carlito, and JoMo would also be welcome returns for me, as would some Billy Gunn action. Other than that I'm not overly fussed about anyone else.

Scotty 2 Hotty and Rhyno also now I think about it.

Tazz Dan 12-09-2012 06:23 AM

And Rob. Van. Dam.

When I first saw this news the names that immediately sprang to mind were John Morrison and MVP.

Now that you guys mention it, Billy Gunn coming back would make sense since I'm sure I read somewhere that people were impressed with him back at the DX reunion.

Doubt Rhyno... don't see him ever going back FT.

Tommy Gunn 12-09-2012 09:05 AM

MVP

Not caring about if it's possible or not, just what I want:

Brian Kendrick
DDP
Rhyno
Tajiri
Shelton Benjamin
John Morrison
Charlie Haas

Savio 12-09-2012 09:18 AM

They need to have Benjamin, Morrison, Carlito, MVP and Haas come back as a stable called the "Future Endeavors"

Pintint 12-09-2012 02:10 PM

They need to have Ken Shamrock come back and job to Brodus Clay only to be released the next day.

Pintint 12-09-2012 02:11 PM

Definetely want to see Shelton Benjamin come back, he's my favorite "tan" wrestler :shifty:
